Suspect in custody in connection with missing Senath girl

SENATH, MO (KFVS) -
Authorities in Dunklin County say they have a suspect in custody in the case of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez, but the little girl is still missing.

Breeann was last seen riding her bicycle in front of her home on Ode Johnson Street in Senath last Saturday.

Investigators say the suspect is from the local area and is not related to the family. He is being held at the Dunklin County Justice Center pending formal charges.

SENATH, MO (KAIT) - According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff, 43-year-old Shawn Morgan has been charged with first degree murder of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez. Morgan has also been charged with armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence.

Police say Morgan is from the Senath and is not related to the family.

My heart is broken. I had to leave for a while and just now got back and saw this.

Until we start castrating, then slowly torturing sex offenders to their death, in public for the world to see, these guys will keep hunting and killing.

Who knows how many Shawn Dale Morgans are out there planning their moves? How many are lurking in our neighborhoods because they have yet to be discovered? Sex-offender registry only pertains to those who have been caught.

I wish I could get my hands on this guy. There would be no waste of taxpayer money because he would be in a grave right now where no one could ever find him. Buried alive and screaming.

I'm mad, so I am going to take a break.

This Morgan man has been arrested but they still haven't found the body yet? Is he not telling them anything or just lying about where to find her?

A father of three has been charged with first-degree murder in the case of Breeann Rodriguez, the 3-year-old who went missing on Aug. 6 while riding her pink bicycle in her Senath, Mo., neighborhood.

Shawn S. Morgan, 34, sits in the Dunklin County Jail, awaiting an arraignment that has yet to be scheduled, Dunklin County Sheriff's Department spokesman Mike McCammon said this afternoon. Sheriff's deputies, Missouri State Highway Patrol, FBI agents, officers from the Senath Police Department and volunteers are still searching for Breeann's body, he said, adding that he wasn't authorized to disclose any other details.

Morgan was quietly arrested around 11 p.m. Friday, said Debra Miller, who lives across the street and learned from someone else that her decade-long neighbor had been taken into police custody.

"Earlier we had noticed items being taken out of the house by the FBI," Miller, 51, said. "His wife just came over and said they were taking out computers and just bags of stuff. ... Of course she was upset but trying to believe the best."

Morgan worked in a steel factory in nearby Blytheville, Ark., Miller said.

Shawn Morgan, 43, a neighbor of the Rodriguez family has been formally charged by prosecutors in Dunklin County in connection to the death of Breeann Rodriguez, 3, who has been missing since one week ago today.

The neighbor of three-year-old Breeann Rodriguez has been formally charged in the child's disappearance and death.

According to Prosecuting Attorney for Dunklin County, Stephen P. Sokoloff, who spoke at a press conference around 1 p.m., Saturday, Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath has been charged with the felony counts of First Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action and Tampering with Physical evidence in connection to the missing child case that has been covered by local and national media since Saturday, August 6, the day little Breeann was reported missing by her family.

SENATH, MO (KAIT) - According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff, Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath, has been charged with first degree murder of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez. Morgan has also been charged with armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence.

"Morgan is charged with causing the death of Breeann Rodriguez, 3-years old, also of Senath, by suffocating her," said Sokoloff. "The charge is that he did this on August 6th, the day that she went missing."

Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes told Region 8 News shortly before 8:00 Saturday night that search efforts for Breeann's body had been called off. He said the search will continue Sunday morning.

SENATH, MO (KFVS) - A Senath man is charged with murder in connection to the disappearance of Breeann Rodriguez.

Shawn Morgan, 43, from Senath is charged with 1st degree murder, according to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff.

Morgan has also been charged with armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, they still have not recovered a body. Sunday, police are still searching for Breeann.

Breeann was such a beautiful child.

During the interview, Morgan stated that on Saturday, August 6th, 2011, he discovered a Mexican female, B.R., standing on the ladder at the pool in his backyard. (118 Ode Johnson Road, Senath, Missouri.) Morgan states that he went to the girl, grabbed her and carried her inside his house. Morgan then suffocated the girl using a white plastic trash bag, by holding it over her face and mouth. Morgan states he felt like it took an hour for the girl to die. Morgan then places the body in the same trash bag, drives to the floodway ditches on MO HWY 164, where he then disposes of the body by throwing her over the railing. Morgan also added that upon his return to his residence in Senath, where he dismantles the bicycle that the girl had ridden on earlier. Morgan later disposes of the bicycle in the same river system as the body.

HORNERSVILLE, Mo. -- Authorities have yet to find the body of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez, of Senath, Mo., and crews are currently searching the floodway ditches near Hornersville.
According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, nearly 50 searchers, search dogs, two helicopters, and several boats are currently canvassing the drainage ditch area east of the rural farming community.

Holder said authorities have yet to come across anything of interest and the search is ongoing.

The road leading to the river access point at Pierce Landing at Hornersville has been closed as authorities try to keep locals from compromising the area.

The neighbor charged in the disappearance and death of 3-year old BreeAnn Rodriguez appeared for arraignment in Dunklin County Circuit Court, Division two, on Tuesday morning, with Judge John C. Spielman presiding.

Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath, Mo., arrived at the Dunklin County Courthouse in shackles, wearing a bullet proof vest, heavily guarded by officers from the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department.

Inside to observe the proceedings were the parents, and other family members of missing 3-year old, as well as those who merely showed up to lend support.

...Outside the courthouse, family and friends of the Rodriguez family gathered. Cynthia Moreno, aunt of BreeAnn's father and her daughter, Gloria, carried signs showing their support and love for the family.

"We believe she's still alive. He knows where he has her but he won't say," Cynthia Moreno said.

Why would the family of the dad say they felt she was still alive, even after the suspect admitted killing her? Do they just want to believe she is not gone?

I'm sorry, but I think he did kill her like he said, just because she was in his yard at his pool. She was only 3, and actually she could have fallen in and drowned, like Caylee did, and she would be dead and he wouldn't be charged with killing her. He did it because he wanted to do it, to see how it felt to take the life of a baby.

sitemama, Cynthia Moreno would be Breeann's great aunt. To me, it sounds like she is trying to do a copy cat of Cindy Anthony and hoping for her 15 minutes of fame as in an appearance on HLN shows such as Nancy Grace, Jane Velez- Mitchell, etc.

Apparently, LE had probable cause and sufficient evidence to arrest Shawn Morgan and charge him with murder among other charges. There is a massive search underway for Breeann's body in huge waterways.

LE are keeping details of this case close to the vest as this investigation and search continues. Moreno is out in left field.

I noticed in the Probable Cause Affidavit, all was not included at this time. I assume to protect the integrity of the case.

I suggest you ignore Moreno who is more than likely seeking her 15 minutes of fame. I guess the next thing Moreno will do is start a Foundation to generate "donations."

I really don't think that Morgan would make up a story like that. I don't know if he was mad because she was in his yard and just snapped, or if he just wanted to see what it felt like. Either way, he needs to DIE!

Maybe some or all of Breeann's family is just in denial, not wanting to believe she's gone since they haven't found her tiny little body. They're holding on to hope until the very end.

As the search continued Monday for her body in a ditch in Dunklin County, first responders in other parts of Region 8 discussed how difficult such a mission can be, both mentally and physically.

Late Breaking news out of Dunklin county tonight. Police tell us they have found human remains believed to be those of Breeann Rodriguez.

The remains were found around 6:30p.m. this evening. They were in what police call the number four ditch.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Senath Church of Christ Church with a funeral to follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Burial is at Senath Cemetery.

SENATH, Mo. (AP) — As the small Missouri town of Senath prepares to say goodbye to Breeann Rodriguez, police are still trying to determine what allegedly drove a neighbor to suffocate the 3-year-old girl.

Breeann's body was found Tuesday in a remote floodway about eight miles from the family home in Senath, a town of 1,500 residents in far southeastern Missouri. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Senath Church of Christ.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol officer searching by boat found the body on the bank of a wide drainage ditch, Julie Crowder of the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The man accused of killing a 3-year-old Missouri girl had a criminal record in Arkansas for threatening to blow up the factory where he worked.

Court records obtained by The Associated Press from Greene County, AR, show that 43-year-old Shawn Morgan of Senath, MO, pleaded no contest in 2004 to a misdemeanor charge of making a terroristic threat. He served one year of probation.

Morgan was originally charged with felony threatening to cause a catastrophe for notes in a restroom at Prestolite Wire Corp. in Paragould, AR, in 2002. The notes threatened to blow up the plant unless four employees were fired.
