Agreed, Lash. Although NR states she told LE the day after RZ died that she had been at the mansion that night, the media was clueless. Nothing stated in Search Warrants that she had been there. Nothing stated by Gore at Sept 2 PC. From what I recall, the sequence of media events were tit for tat between AB and Gore:

Everyone has such good points.

This is just a sad case all the way around. I can't even say I am not sure she didn't commit suicide (not 100%).

I think she was murdered. I have had my thoughts of who I think did it but I have to question even that because so many people think the other person (female) did it. Maybe she did. Maybe she didn't.

I definitely find it strange to go around to the back gate. If I went to someone's house and they didn't answer, I would never snoop around the back. What area of the property can be seen from there? Who owned the underwear in the trash?

If Dina or Nina were involved, why in God's green Earth would they feel so comfortable to roam the property and commit such an ostentatious display on another person's property. They had no idea who would "stop by!"

Okay, what are the missing links? What happened to Max? Where did the link to the chandelier go and why? Rebecca could not dispose of that "evidence." She was DEAD!!! ** then again, maybe she did... after all, the police didn't even collect the chandelier until after her death? And it was in the TRASH? Wow.

BTW, Ann Rule (in her new book) quoted Adam Shacknai, coincidentally, as saying something to LE at the scene of Rebecca's hanging about how his "bedside manner wasn't that bad." Many think this is an odd comment from Adam, given the circumstances. Was this just coincidence in your post, or are you getting at something more about that "bedside manner" comment that I didn't get? Curious.

The link was photographed by SDSO. The chandelier was collected by SDSO in search warrant 41290. The evidence collected included a wire nut and pieces of the chandelier. Rebecca had absolutely NOTHING to do with any missing chandelier evidence. I would suggest placing blame elsewhere.

Hi GlaringError! I respect your thoughts and opinions.

Unfortunately, we do not know where 'The Housemaid' video was found or who it belonged to. Are you privy to more details? In my opinion, it is absurd to postulate Rebecca used this video as a scolding message with no supporting evidence of who owned the video. The video may have been planted by the murderer in an attempt to humiliate Rebecca. It may have been purchased to mock Rebecca. Who owned and/or rented the video?

I respectfully disagree that Rebecca's shoplifting past is somehow a behavioral issue that concludes this was a suicide. Dina found a shoplifting charge upon completing a background check on Rebecca. I agree that past behavior such as previous suicide attempts or violence can sometimes predict future behavior. Rebecca's past showed neither of these behavioral patterns. However, when Rebecca joined Jonah's family she was surrounded by a couple of people known to have engaged in violent behavior. I sometimes wonder if Rebecca would have stayed in the relationship had she researched Jonah's and Dina's past?

Does anyone recall when Gore angrily said all the evidence had been given to AB as the SO was NOT needing it, ie, they were NOT going to investigate? That was in Dec. of 2011, IIRC. IF so, how was it DS was able to review the evidence? Was only the items pertaining to RZ' death given to the atty? Or was it ALL given over?

Hi Freckles! Mary made several comments in this interview. At the end of summer, Rebecca was considering taking some time for herself if things did not improve.

According to Dr. Bove's report the ring was visible in photographs but not available for inspection. Missing or not provided? I think the words 'not available' warrant further definition.

CORONADO — The queen of the true crime genre has taken on the mysterious death of Rebecca Zahau in her new book, laying out a case for murder at the historic Spreckels mansion in Coronado.

While best-selling author Ann Rule raises many questions surrounding the death, she provides few answers.

The case that captured the attention of San Diego and the nation is one of a handful of deaths she explores in the book, “Fatal friends, deadly neighbors and other true cases,” released last month.

Zahau’s death was ultimately ruled a suicide by the Sheriff’s Department and Medical Examiner’s Office, a conclusion that her family has vehemently fought ever since.

Zahau Family to Sue County Seeking Evidence Gathered in Her Case

Attorneys for the family of the woman who died at the Spreckels mansion nearly two years ago want knives, computers and video of her autopsy for further examination and testing.

The family of the late Rebecca Zahau will sue San Diego County in an effort to obtain evidence collected during the investigation into her death in Coronado two years ago.

On Wednesday morning, attorney Marty Rudoy will host a news conference in downtown San Diego to announce that the family is filing suit to seek items seized in search warrants presented at the scene after the morning of July 13, 2011, when Zahau's body was found.

They include computers and knives investigators determined she used to cut rope to bind and hang herself from a mansion balcony. They are also seeking records, including video of her autopsy, an interview with a witness in Arizona, where Zahau, 32, resided, and missing photos from the investigation file.

SAN DIEGO - The attorney for the family of Rebecca Zahau, who mysteriously died at the Spreckles Mansion in Coronado nearly two years ago, will announce Wednesday plans to keep her death investigation alive.

10news spoke with family attorney, Marty Rudoy, who said a lawsuit against the San Diego Sheriff's Department is in the works for evidence and information they believe deputies left out during the investigation.

The evidence includes interviews, evidence from the scene of Zahau's July 13, 2011 death and a mysterious 8-second gap from a 911 call. The family believes the evidence were all intentionally left out and that they may prove Zahau was murdered.

Snowem, younger sister to Rebecca Zahau, spoke outside the Hall of Justice after the family filed a lawsuit asking that the homicide case be reopened.

Nearly two years after Rebecca Zahau was found hanging at an historic Coronado mansion, her family has filed a lawsuit demanding the case be reopened.

On Wednesday, attorneys for the Zahau family would not identify any potential suspects in the case but they listed the evidence they say points to homicide.

"Anybody that looks at this objectively, doesn't see suicide," said attorney Marty Rudoy.

I went to this case by chance, read about it, and thought it was difficult not to think about Adam Shacknai...

After seeing this, and reading some other people's thoughts... I'm wondering if the boyfriend did this himself, took a shower, and told his brother to clean it up.

Also, the door painting looks like it wasn't even done with a brush. Are there partial finger prints in that paint, due to someone(s) dipping her finger in the paint and writing the note with her cold dead finger?

It does look like her fingers had paint in her cuticles that remained after "someone" tried to clean paint off of her hands.

Any thoughts?

I thought polygraphs were supposed to have baseline questions.

The examiner said he coulda did a whole lot worse, on the other hand he "coulda did a whole lot better." Doesn't that mean FAILED???? Its funny what happens when people start to "characterize" situations or people. That's what I call a TELL.

That guy is creepy

I also find it convenient that a very important body of evidence was destroyed. Body. Of. Evidence.

There won't be a second look there. Who didn't want the second look? Not Rebecca... she was DEAD.

Plan B.... look for plan C.... its coming.

One thought - the black on RZ's cuticles looks like potting soil to me. My cuticles look like that when I plant flowers or add mulch around them. Looks to me by the pictures of RZ's feet/hands that she was in a mulch covered or planting area and was also on all fours. Makes me think again of the female cries for help from two neighbors.

Definately no pictures of any black on that light carpet in the balcony bedroom...and the balcony was not black like RZ's feet.

The fact that RZ was naked perplexed me. It seems unusual to get undressed to commit suicide.

I believe the investigation and murder of RZ will blow wide open before this year ends.

Hopefully the 'twins' will have gotten all their ducks in a row by then (you know...Nina's adult son and Dina's non for profit).

It IS going to happen. I'd rather sooner than later.

Everybody is waiting... and the more information that comes out the more it sounds like a homicide. Pictures of filthy feet that supposedly walked over pristine white carpeting doesn't help the case for suicide.

Two red cups, soda, Rebecca's phone strewn about and Rebebcca's and her boyfriend's computers BOTH IN THE GUEST ROOM? (When is the last time you and your husband/boyfriend/so took your personal computers on vacation and kept them on the other side of the home in a guest room?) Another "tell." Loud music like a party? Screams for help (wouldn't be heard from inside the home, would they? But from the backyard....). Dirty nail beds, wet shower.

Did Max's mom ever give money to her brother-in-law over the years? Did "she" save "him" and "he" saved "her?"

I guess all the theories will stop when a proper investigation is done.

Maybe the boyfriend is just an innocent victim of being a fool for bourgois, pretentious women... fell for the realness of Rebecca... and is being a gentleman to cover up for his ex-wife and brother.

Then again, personally, I am a methodical thinker when it comes to specific tasks. Adam got the call to come to Coronado pretty early on. Does that mark the spot when for sure someone was thinking of ending Rebecca's life?

If the kids were there, would a young boy be looking for anime porn and "sexy asian girls?' Just askin'

This will break when the smartest person realizes they are caught and turns states evidence before the others

Once it can be established that Rebecca was murdered, maybe justice can be done for Max too. Justice being, finding out what really happened to Max.
