It's so sad. This is the first year in many, that we didn't get to go to Seaside Heights. Now it's all gone. The rollercoaster that is in the ocean is called "The Mouse"...we rode it every year. I hope they rebuild. I can't imagine Seaside Boardwalk not being there.

Bloomberg did the right thing by canceling the Marathon bowing to public pressure but because he did so so late, many flying from South Africa or China didn't even know the event had been canceled. I didn't realize people from all over the world participate in the event.
Bloomberg, imo, made a big mistake by not canceling immediately upon Sandy making landfall and didn't consider the cost to those that had started arriving in NY to participate. I guess they too got stuck w/hotel accommodations because to secure a reservation, they always get your credit card number to guarantee your room. Another BIG MESS NY didn't need, a politician pandering to some, not considering others, imo, had it been canceled immediately, those flying into NY would not have been screwed and would have gotten the message the event had been canceled. with over 40,000 participants registered for the event, what a mess.

Small earthquake rattles storm-stricken New Jersey
By NBC News staff and wire reports
A small earthquake hit northern New Jersey early Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The magnitude 2.0 temblor struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered in Ringwood, N.J., a community that’s still reeling from downed trees and power outages caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Nor'easter may bring 50 mph winds, rain to Sandy-hit areas
TODAY's Al Roker takes a look at a slow-moving storm set to hit the Northeast this week, bringing coastal wind gusts up to 55 mph, 2-4 inches of rain and dumping heavy snow in the mountains.
By NBC News staff and wire reports
Updated at 6:26 p.m. ET: NEW YORK -- A week after Superstorm Sandy ravaged the New Jersey and New York coast lines, another challenge loomed Monday for the region: a slow-moving nor’easter, capable of delivering punishing amounts of wind, rain and snow.
"Though this storm will not have near the magnitude of the impact Sandy had, the combination of rain, wind and snow will add insult to injury for the recovery process along the East Coast," The Weather Channel’s Chris Dolce reported.
Starting in Florida Tuesday morning, the storm will move up the East Coast and into the Carolinas late in the day, TODAY Show Chief Meteorologist Al Roker said. By Wednesday morning, the storm will move into New Jersey with strong onshore wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour and waves measuring 10 to 20 feet high. The storm could bring 2 to 4 inches of rainfall in the area as it makes its way into New England Thursday.

Julie - I had to look up the term "nor easter" on google, being from the south I wasn't familiar w/it.
I am sickened by the conditions for these people making it worse if you can imagine, life isn't fair sometimes and this is another example. Geez Louise, those that have a job left need to get back to work but may have lost their homes, many have lost their jobs due to the storm damage, it's endless as to the grief that many are suffering.
Due to the Presidential Election, imo, the survivors may not be getting as much attention as they need in the news, their suffering isn't going to end anytime soon, thank GOD the Presidential race is going to be over, but, sadly, not the political posturing that will surely follow.

I agree art. What those people are going through is unimaginable. It's terrible. I can't imagine being in their positions, and like some of them, not even having a home left to go to.
It made me so sad earlier, I saw a photo of an elderly couple searching through a store's discarded food, looking for something to eat.
But...the people in charge made darn sure that the casinos and stock market reopened.

N.Y. Marathoners Run to Staten Island to Help With Storm Cleanup
Serena Saitto and Nancy Kercheval, 2012 Bloomberg News
Updated 4:00 p.m., Monday, November 5, 2012
Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Rudi Reichert arrived from Linz, Austria, hours before the New York City Marathon was canceled three days ago. Instead of racing yesterday, he spent the day helping victims of Hurricane Sandy on Staten Island.
Linz joined about 1,000 other race entrants to run around the borough where the race was to begin handing out food, water, batteries, flashlights and prepaid mobile phones to people affected by the biggest storm in Atlantic Ocean history.
“It was heart-breaking to see the devastation and speaking with people who lost everything,” Reichert, who was in town for his second New York marathon and 15th overall, said in an interview. “They were so happy we came to help.”

No Turning the Lights Out on Halloween in New Jersey
By KATE ZERNIKE
Published: November 5, 2012
VERONA, N.J. — Never mind that Christmas decorations went up at malls across the country last week. In New Jersey on this November Monday, Halloween was officially celebrated, thanks to Gov. Chris Christie, who last week signed Executive Order 105, postponing the holiday because of Hurricane Sandy.
“It would have been fine with me to cancel,” said Bernadette Silvia, at a Halloween gathering here, who had already run through her two bowls of candy and was watching her 9-year-old son collect goodies from others. “You try telling the kids that.”
With one in five homes in the state still without electricity and trees still draped across suburban streets, it was a struggle to make the holiday feel like normal. Towns tried to redesign the celebration for safety, canceled it outright or postponed it yet again, turning Halloween into the Holiday That Refused to Die.

The Baltimore Sun | By Kevin Rector Posted: 11/05/2012 10:05 am EST Updated: 11/05/2012 10:19 am EST
Most roads were cleared of snow and fallen trees in Garrett County as of late Sunday, and most federal and state emergency officials who'd responded there following superstorm Sandy's damaging blizzard had departed.
Still, thousands remained without power.

West Virginia Superstorm Sandy: Blizzard-Like Conditions Spread Across State (VIDEO, PHOTOS)
By VICKI SMITH 10/30/12 03:20 PM ET EDT
ELKINS, W.Va. -- Wet snow and high winds spinning off the edge of superstorm Sandy spread blizzard conditions over parts of West Virginia and neighboring Appalachian states Tuesday, shutting one interstate as trucks and cars bogged down and knocking out power to many.
The National Weather Service said a foot and more of snow was reported in lower elevations of West Virginia, where most towns and roads are. High elevations in the mountains were getting more than two feet and a blizzard warning for more than a dozen counties was in effect until Wednesday afternoon.

Lady GaGa put her money where her mouth is! You GO Girl!
Lady Gaga is donating $1 million to the Red Cross to aid those affected by Superstorm Sandy.
The New York-born singer posted on her blog Wednesday that she is pledging the money on behalf of her parents and sister. She also said she “would not be the woman or artist that I am today” if it weren’t for places like the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn.
She writes: “Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours.”

Many, many, wealthy musical artist and actors/actresses live in NY and were not effected by the storm. They are in a unique position to help those hurting in their city, I hope more step forward. If I had a million, I'd give it in a heartbeat, I hate to read the stories of our fellow American's still hurting.

I wish I could get coats, blankets, mittens and scarves to those in dire need. Pet food. Instead, since I can't, I will resolve my frustration and give more to our local vets, food bank, etc..

Stingy, IMO. Perhaps they were only looking for a write off on taxes and curry the public image! They should be ashamed.
FEMA closing? IMO, IF the people there had to go without food, shelter and warmth, then FEMA could darn well join in! As long as a single person was left in need, REMA should have been manning the taxis, the doors to a shelter.
Americans do NOT treat our children, elderly, infirm this way after a MAJOR disaster when a SECOND disaster looms. Shame on us for not lending a hand. Shame on our "leaders". They should ALL be indicted for treason.
Sorry. I am upset the gov't did not make better provisions for OUR OWN.
They seem to have NO problem sending a BILLION a week to Iraq!
What about US???
