‘August: Osage County’ Actress Misty Upham Confirmed Dead at 32

“We just want to make it clear that the Auburn police had nothing to do with looking for her or finding her,” she said. “It was friends and family that led the search and rescue teams that found Misty.”

Rector says friends and family confirmed her body at 6 p.m. Thursday, and that no cause of death has been revealed yet.

Suspected Indiana serial killer ID'd as Darren Vann, 43

Last Updated Oct 20, 2014 5:14 PM EDT

GARY, Ind. - The man whose alleged confession to one killing led Indiana police to the grisly discovery of six other deaths has been identified by authorities as 43-year-old Darren Vann, a convicted sex offender in Texas.

Hammond Police Chief John Doughty said Vann, of Gary, Ind., confessed to killing Afrikka Hardy, a 19-year-old woman whose body was found Friday in a Motel 6 in Hammond, and indicated to authorities there could be more victims going back 20 years.

Vann was charged Monday in the strangulation death of Hardy.

Doughty said Vann met Hardy at the motel after responding to an ad posted on a Chicago-area website advertising prostitution.

Misty Upham Died the Day of Her Disappearance, Family "Very Upset" With Auburn Police

Misty Upham's family is very upset with local police after the star's body was found in a wooded area near Auburn, Wa., last Thursday, Oct. 16. Family spokesperson Tracy Rector told Us Weekly that Auburn Police did nothing to actively search for the missing actress whose whereabouts had been unknown since Oct. 5 — which, according to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, was the day of Upham's death.

"The family wants to make it clear that they did not receive help from the police in searching for Misty and that the other [police department] employees failed to help them," Rector told Us. "They pleaded with them and their concerns were not taken seriously. The police said that 32-year-old Misty grabbed her purse and put her shoes on. So, according to the guidelines, that meant that she was an adult who left on her own recognizance."

Officers charged Giesbrecht with six counts of concealing the body of a child, along with breach of probation.
Winnipeg police said Tuesday the remains of up to four very young infants, possibly newborns, were inside the locker. On Wednesday, officers said a preliminary investigation showed there were six infants.

Woman guilty of pushing husband off cliff appeals

Developing Stories - Page 20 Jordan-Linn-Graham-and-Cody-Johnson-wedding-source-Facebook

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — A Montana woman has appealed her murder conviction for killing her husband of eight days by pushing him off a cliff in Glacier National Park.

Attorneys for Jordan Graham argued in the appeal filed with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that prosecutors distorted evidence to convince jurors that Graham planned to kill Cody Lee Johnson on July 7, 2013.

Public defender Michael Donahoe also said the government changed its version of events several times throughout the case.

The Official Michael Brown Autopsy Report Doesn't Say What the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Says It Does

Thu Oct 23, 2014 at 08:13 PM PDT

Yesterday as our little group was preparing to stand in solidarity with Ferguson for the national October 22 Day Against Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, the media was buzzing about the story headlined above. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch article about the controversial leaked autopsy report quotes California forensics expert Dr. Judy Melinek extensively, but it turns out that she didn't say what the story says she did. If you think the official autopsy report exonerates Darren Wilson, blame it on a couple of reporters who blithely misquoted a forensics expert to -- apparently -- support the headline they wanted to write.

...The Post-Dispatch (and later, the Washington Post, which essentially reported on the the St. Louis reporting) claims that a forensic expert said the autopsy shows that Michael Brown was "going for his (Wilson's) gun." Except that's not what the expert said - at least not in anything she provided on the record. She told Lawrence O'Donnell that it was just as likely that Brown was trying to defend himself from being shot.

School gunman was Homecoming prince, students say (Video)

By Associated Press

MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A student recently crowned freshman class Homecoming prince walked into his Seattle-area high school cafeteria Friday and opened fire, killing one person and shooting four others — including two of his cousins — before turning the gun on himself, officials and witnesses said.

Students said the gunman was staring at his victims as he shot them inside the cafeteria at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The shootings set off a chaotic scene as students ran from the cafeteria and building in a frantic dash to safety, while others were told to stay put inside classrooms at the school 30 miles north of Seattle.

Haley Owens fb has info on missing children:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Loving-Memory-of-Hailey-Owens/133640120139665?fref=photo

From there:
"....Samantha Danley (16) left her home down in Redfield (Arkansas) a week ago after she met someone online who told her that they knew where her biological father was. ..."

Haley Owens was the child who went missing from Springfield, MO, and it was called in immediately. Witnesses saw her snatched and even got vehicle description and plate info. She was found dead in a container in the basement of the perp. IIRC, he was in court last week...

Houston, we got us a problem....

"....[I]n order for a harm to occur, it is necessary that someone is in the condition of experiencing that harm. If a potential person, like a fetus and a newborn, does not become an actual person, like you and us, then there is neither an actual nor a future person who can be harmed, which means that there is no harm at all. … In these cases, since non-persons have no moral rights to life, there are no reasons for banning after-birth abortions. … Indeed, however weak the interests of actual people can be, they will always trump the alleged interest of potential people to become actual ones, because this latter interest amounts to zero. ..."

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/human_nature/2012/03/after_birth_abortion_the_pro_choice_case_for_infanticide_.html

Congress is addressing this:
"....Predictably, the article has sparked outrage. Last week, Reps. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., and Chris Smith, R-N.J., denounced it on the House floor. But it isn’t pro-lifers who should worry about the Giubilini-Minerva proposal. It’s pro-choicers. The case for “after-birth abortion” draws a logical path from common pro-choice assumptions to infanticide. It challenges us, implicitly and explicitly, to explain why, if abortion is permissible, infanticide isn’t. ...."

"....“Actual people's well-being could be threatened by the new (even if healthy) child requiring energy, money and care which the family might happen to be in short supply of,” they observe. Accordingly, “if economical, social or psychological circumstances change such that taking care of the offspring becomes an unbearable burden on someone, then people should be given the chance of not being forced to do something they cannot afford.” An after-birth abortion might be warranted by any “interests of actual people (parents, family, society) to pursue their own well-being”—including “the interests of the mother who might suffer psychological distress from giving her child up for adoption.”..... RUMORED:

Joran van der Sloot

Dutch killer van der Sloot ‘stabbed in prison’

".....The lawyer of convicted killer Joran van der Sloot said on Monday that the Dutch citizen had been stabbed repeatedly in a Peruvian prison in recent days, but local penitentiary authorities deny the attacks took place....."

http://nypost.com/2014/11/03/dutch-killer-van-der-sloot-stabbed-in-prison-lawyer/

Better story with more details:
"....has been stabbed and may be in critical condition, according to a Dutch website.

In an interview with a Dutch news outlet, van der Sloot’s lawyer, Máximo Altez, said the convicted killer was stabbed in the shoulder and waist by fellow prisoners....."

"....However, also on Sunday, the head of the Peruvian system of prisons (INPE), José Luis Pérez Guadalupe, denied any wrongdoing and called the wife a "compulsive liar."

"Absolutely nothing has happened. That lady is lying and it is not the first time she does it. She has been giving false reports to the media for weeks now: that he has been beaten, tortured, that they submerge him in water. We are facing a compulsive liar. Unfortunately she is wasting all of our time," Pérez Guadalupe told Canal N. ...."

"....van der Sloot was suffering from critical injuries in the shoulders and waist that were “definitely two inches deep.”

".....According to Figueroa, "Joran was stabbed many times in the stomach by other inmates, he was almost killed, I am scared for his life," she told MailOnline. "He's losing a lot of blood but isn't receiving any medical attention. He's been very poorly, I have been trying to get the guards to take him to hospital."

José Luis Pérez Guadalupe, head of the Peruvian system of prisons, has vehemently rejected claims of wrongdoing and referred to van der Sloot’s wife as a "compulsive liar."

(Figueroa is the current wife of him. They had a dau in Sept. He is in 24 hour solitary lock down so I don't see how he got stabbed... Still, no tears lost on him. What goes down comes around, IMO. )

".....Jose Perez Guadalupe, director of Peru's National Penitentiary Institute, which oversees the country's prisons, told a 24-hour television station that Figueroa's assertions were untrue and further labeled her a "compulsive liar."

He continued with an assault on her character, telling Peru's Channel N, "For starters, no woman in her right mind goes to a maximum-security prison and marries the biggest killer there."..."

Anna Nicole Smith /Howard Stern case:

"....The California Supreme Court says Anna Nicole Smith's manager can be retried on conspiracy charges related to the model's prescription drug use.

The ruling Monday returns the case to a criminal judge in Los Angeles, but it does not guarantee that Smith's manager Howard K. Stern will be retried.

The ruling states that Stern could face a retrial on two conspiracy charges if a judge grants a request by prosecutors for a new trial and does not find another legal basis to dismiss the case. ...."

Police released these surveillance photos from an ATM in Aberdeen, Maryland of a person of interest in the abduction of Carlesha Freeland-Gaither. Philadelphia Police

The cry for help barely escaped Keisha Gaither’s throat as she begged for her daughter’s safe return.

“Please give me back my child. Please give me my baby,” she hoarsely uttered, as tears ran down her face, before a crush of local and national reporters on Tuesday.

Her baby is Carlesha Freeland-Gaither.

She spent most of her life, from 4 years old until she was 19, living with her grandmother, Ana Mulero, in California, Maryland, which is in the southern part of the state. The woman attended grade and high school there and moved back to Philadelphia two years ago to start a career, the family said.

Once here, she lived with her grandfather. Carlesha moved out two months ago and has been working as a nurses’ aide in Penn Presbyterian Hospital’s cancer center.

“Not only did she enjoy what she was doing, the people there loved her,” said the woman’s grandmother, Ana Mulero.

Cops: Man last seen with missing Texas woman lied

PLANO, Texas -- A man last seen with a missing Fort Worth woman lied to police, was seen cleaning his car and had abrasions on his hand and arm in the days following her disappearance, according to a search warrant obtained by CBS DFW.

Christina Marie Morris, 23, was last seen Aug. 30 after spending a night out with friends at a popular Plano shopping and dining development. She was last seen walking into a parking garage at The Shops at Legacy over two months ago at about 4 a.m. that Saturday morning with acquaintance Enrique Arochi, reported CBS DFW.

Friends and family reportedly didn't realize she was missing until she didn't show up for work Sept. 2 after the Labor Day weekend. Her silver Toyota Celica was found unmoved, still parked in the garage.

Surveillance video shows Morris and Arochi walking together in a parking garage. Arochi reportedly told police that he last saw Morris as she was walking towards her car, and he was walking towards his. The two aren't seen separating on the video.

There is no arrest and no more answers for a third month. Loved ones' search for Christina Morris painfully goes on.

DALLAS -- It's been three months since Christina Morris was last seen walking to her car at the Shops at Legacy in Plano, during the early morning hours of Aug. 30.

Cameras captured her leaving with a friend. She walked out of the picture, and never returned home.

Five days later, searches started, once her live in boyfriend reported her missing. Her family from Fort Worth said she would not just disappear. There were searches on foot, in water, by drones. They found nothing.

Cops dig deeper in "suicide" now called suspicious

Developing Stories - Page 20 Carolina6n-2-web

Sarah Catherine Long

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Police initially believed Sarah Catherine Long's death was a suicide. The 41-year-old was found dead of a single gunshot wound to her head in bed in her Davidson, N.C. home on July 23.

It wasn't until last month that authorities said they believe she was killed. Police say she had a gun in her left hand; Long was right-handed.

A "suspicious death investigation" is underway and late last week, police in Davidson seized Long's Yahoo! Internet accounts.

Authorities obtained a court order to review the accounts. A search warrant says police are reviewing text messages, emails and financial transactions.

Long was married at the time of her death, but she was having an affair with a man named William Becker, who was also married, search warrants obtained by 48 Hours' Crimesider allege. According to warrants, Becker was seen by neighbors entering Long's home with her on the night of July 19, the last time she was seen alive.

Police reexamining married N.C. woman's suicide as suspicious death

Days after Sarah Catherine Long, 41, was found dead in her Davidson home, police say a man claiming to have been her secret lover produced documents showing that she left him everything in her will — a $1 million fortune, according to search warrants obtained by the Charlotte Observer. Investigators say there were other things that didn’t add up.

A secret lover, a $1 million fortune, and a potentially planted handgun have led to authorities reexamining the death of a married North Carolina woman whose cause was initially ruled suicide.

Authorities in Davidson have launched a suspicious death investigation into Sarah Catherine Long's July demise after a number of oddities arose including a handgun found in the right-handed woman's left hand, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Only days after her body was found, authorities say a married man, who claimed to have been having a seven-month affair with the 41-year-old, produced documents showing that she left him everything in her will — a fortune totaling nearly $1 million.

Detectives in North Carolina have seized the Yahoo! Internet accounts and phone records of a woman found dead in her home three months ago, in a scene made to look like a suicide but which police believe was actually homicide.

Sarah Catherine Long, 41, was found dead in the bedroom of her townhouse in Davidson from a single gunshot wound to the head on July 23.

Her death was initially deemed self-inflicted, however witness statements placed another person in the house on the night Long died.

The gun, a .357 Taurus revolver, was also found in her left hand - even though Long was right-handed - and there was no blood on the hand, despite the bullet entering her head on the left side.

District Attorney Tom Hogan’s voice choked with emotion as he described the torture Scott sustained. WPVI-TV reports:

“Over a three day period … he was systematically tortured and beaten to death. He was punched in the face and in the stomach. He was scourged with a homemade whip. He was lashed with a metal rod. He was tied to a chair and beaten. He was tied upside down by his feet and beaten. His head was smashed through a wall........”

Police in Honduras are hunting for a missing beauty queen due to fly to London later this week for Miss World 2014.

Reigning Miss Honduras, Maria Jose Alvarado, vanished with her sister, Sofia Trinidad, after a party last Thursday.

The pair had been celebrating a friend's birthday near their home town of Santa Barbara, where student Alvarado, 19, was spending time with her parents before flying to Britain to represent her country.

The missing women were last seen getting into a vehicle as they left the party.

Police chief Jose Coello originally said they were not treating the pair's disappearance as a crime.

4 held in case of missing Honduras beauty queen

Nov. 17, 2014 5:48 PM EST

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Honduran authorities are holding four people for questioning about the disappearance four days ago of Miss Honduras 2014, Maria Jose Alvarado, police said Monday.

One of the detained, Plutarco Ruiz, is the boyfriend of Alvarado's sister, Sofia, 23, who also went missing with the beauty queen. Another being held is the owner of the business where the women disappeared, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph Coello, though he would not identify him.

"Initially we detained 10, but six have been released," Coello said.

The two women were last seen Thursday in a spa in Santa Barbara, about 240 miles (400 kilometers) west of Tegucigalpa, where they had gone to celebrate Ruiz's birthday. They have not been heard from since. Coello said the case is being treated as a disappearance because there has been no evidence of a kidnapping.

"Witnesses said my daughter left the spa with three men," her mother, Teresa Munoz, told reporters. "I tried repeatedly all night to call their cellphones without any response."

Chief prosecutor Gabriela Carranza said there are leads in the case that they can't discuss so as not to interfere with the investigation.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ten years after banning the use of firing squads in state executions, Utah lawmakers on Wednesday endorsed a proposal to allow the practice again to avoid problems with lethal-injection drugs.

The proposal from Republican Rep. Paul Ray of Clearfield would call for a firing squad if the state cannot obtain the lethal injection drugs 30 days before the scheduled execution.

the DP trial for the murder of Mark Hasse is set to begin next week.. the jury was selected. this is the Texas case where a crown prosecutor was murdered. "The authorities said the motive stemmed from Mr. McLelland’s and Mr. Hasse’s successful prosecution of Mr. Williams last year on charges of stealing computer equipment from a county building. He was convicted of burglary and theft charges, and removed from office by a state judicial commission. Both Mr. Hasse and Mr. McLelland had started regularly carrying handguns following Mr. Williams’ conviction because they believed he was a threat to their safety, according to court documents" http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/27/us/death-penalty-sought-in-case-of-killing-of-texas-prosecutors.html?_r=0
