PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Casey Anthony, the young Florida mother acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, filed for bankruptcy protection late Friday night in Florida.

This move brings all of Anthony's civil cases currently under way in Florida state court to a complete halt.

"This is the next step towards closure for me," said Anthony in a phone conversation Friday evening................

OMG! My only hope now is for George and Cindy to file a civil suit against her after this bankruptcy is complete. I know I am only daydreaming. I do believe the judge will grant her bankruptcy.

Lash - the good news is, the IRS is in the front of the line, hopefully there is a tax lien against KC. Federal taxes are not easy to dismiss. The bad news is, the statute of limitations in Fla. is 2 years from the time of the death for CA/GA to file a wrongful death for Caylee which has passed, in La. there is a one year period.

A friend of mine that found herself in a legal mess during a divorce, filed bankruptcy due to so many outstanding bills. All her credit card debts, other debts owed to creditors were dismissed EXCEPT for her student loans that had escalated due to finance charges over 15 years and hadn't been paid. NOW, the law is, student loan debts have to be PAID by the time you retire OR the Feds can garnish your social security check, something she never saw coming, they can take 15 % of your check but they have to leave you with $ 750.00 per month of the SS check. Most student loans are federal and can't be dismissed. I had to read up on this, I couldn't believe it but it seems so many people have gone back to school at 40 years old or older due to job loss, they used student loan monies and the FEDS want their money. Sadly, it seems many parents or grandparents are having their social security checks garnished because they signed for their children or grandchildren to get the loans and those signed for, didn't pay them.

Actually, this is the document and she lists Jose Baez (half a million dollars?), the IRS, the State of Florida and George as debts to be discharged. She lists all of her pro bono attorneys as well, and many more.

It is amazing that she has got away with everything and now wants closure. YEs Mama Dr Phil has helped her to get a condo and start again.

I thought there was a strict limit to what you can file in bankruptcy... like I didn't think you could file against government agencies... I think this will buy her sometime for the civil cases but if a judgement against her for that comes I don't think she can file bankruptcy again. And I didn't think civil judgements count for bankruptcy either...

Interesting read on the bankruptcy... I'm curious to why she has George,, Cindy and all of the attorneys that they've had listed. If you read down there the bottom with Chapter 7 is it says that you basically can't file something that was incurred based on fraud... I think that's how I read it my computer broke so I have to use my phone for everything... she admitted everything was a lie when court started so are all of her defense specialists that she's trying to wipe off for not paying she's the 1 that told the story. I find it odd she's putting the cart before the horse with all of her civil trials too... she just disgusts me till no end...

Wouldn't these creditors be considered claims based on fraud?

Fraud - ZG defamation suit - claiming Zanny the Nanny.

Fraud - Tim Miller's search for Caylee - she allegedly knew Caylee was dead.

Fraud - Florida Department of LE - lying to LE.

Fraud - IRS - not claiming money earned from selling Caylee's pictures.

BTW - the form states she hasn't worked in 4 years...lol. Another lie, it's more like 7 years. Unless she is claiming she worked for Tony in 2008.

The bottom? Sadly, the story will end just like OJ hitting his golf balls. Except we will see pictures of her hitting the nightclubs.

I hope whoever has to review her application scrutinize is it...

Bmore, the fraud angle is definately something to consider because she brought this all on herself. In fact, if Caylee really died as kc ant said she did, and if she had admitted it right from the start (as thousands of other people would have) then none of this would have happened. A child drowns and the first thing one does is call 911, which would have saved all of us from ever having to have known her name, it would have avoided a trial that cost millions and would have resulted in far less hurt for the people who loved Caylee.

But ... I guess when you're running out of fantasies and need to come up with a plausible explanation, plus of course when the word integrity doesn't feature anywhere on your list of values, then it would seem perfectly okay to throw in the "drowning" scenario 3-years down the line after you've hurt more people than can be counted, told more lies than we can keep track of and after an expensive trial, etc. etc. I also suppose that if kc ant had no qualms storing her child that supposedly drowned in the trunk of her car, then all that happened since would be perceived differently by her than it does by the rest of the world.

Anyhow, IMO she needs to suck it up. She is not a victim of anything beyond her control, rather she is suffering the consequence of her own lies and murderous ways. Who gives a damn that she is having a pity party because she can't move on. I certainly don't.

... and yes Bmore, it would be awesome if the Judge threw out her application due to fraud and because all of the costs she has incurred thus far are due to her own actions, the least of which were her lies.

BTW, I'm sure she has listed her entire family, expert witnesses and everyone else involved in the trial to safeguard herself from the possibility of future claims.

Hi, Kwest! Good to "see" you again.

When, indeed, does it end? I can not believe how she seems to go scot-free every single time! What ever happened to Karma? I keep expecting it to catch up with her, but it never seems to. This just infuriates me!!!

I am wondering how she can owe Jose Baez $500,000 when he was pro bono and at one point and time, Casey was declared indigent during her process prior to trial.

Baez might owe consultants, etc., that he hired. Many were pro bono as they jumped on the "band wagon" to do whatever for Casey.

We all know that she is responsible for the death of Caylee. I realize that a jury found her not guilty and technically she is not guilty but in reality we know what she did.

I certainly hope a bankruptcy judge will not allow her to declare bankruptcy, especially on the claim of owing Jose Baez $500,000. He was pro bono! Casey should be charged with a fraudulent claim re her bankruptcy!

HOUSTON - The latest twist to the strange story of Casey Anthony has frustrated the founder of a non-profit in the Houston area that’s suing her for damages.

Anthony, the Florida mother infamously accused and acquitted of killing her daughter Caylee in a sensational trial, has filed for bankruptcy protection. Her petition claims she owes almost $800,000 to about 80 creditors, with about $500,000 of it owed to her lead defense attorney.

But the bankruptcy filing in federal court also basically freezes all lawsuits filed against her in state courts, including a suit filed by Texas Equusearch, a non-profit group that helps law enforcement authorities hunt for missing people.

Ann - Tx - Mason was pro bono complaining often about the burden of defending KC. Andrea Lyon's and Linda Kenny Baden were pro bono and came into the case as being pro bono, they received no monies representing KC, the only person involved in KC's defense that got any monies from KC as her privately retained attorney was Baez. ( this later bites him in the butt ) Because A Lyons and Linda Kenny Baden were pro bono and had NOT taken any monies from Baez/KC, the two had the ability to leave the case complaining of the cost factor of travel & out of state air fair, etc., unlike Baez's obligation to the case.

Baez was not pro bono, he was "privately retained" by KC and he was paid a salary of $ 80,000.00" from the ABC monies on KC/Baez selling Caylee's videos/photos. Baez couldn't draw a salary from the taxpayer's as part of KC's indigency because he was privately retained disqualifying him for monies as explained to Baez by Judge P. Baez too couldn't be compensated for travel expenses, hotel expenses, and other expenses related to the case due to his "private retainment" in the case, he was disqualified to receive these monies representing an indigent client. The monies he was due as her attorney became a debt of KC's, it didn't make him " pro bono" because she had the inability to pay him for her legal fees, the legal fees were just a mounting debt.

Normally, if Baez had NOT taken monies from KC , he could have drawn monies and paid by the State for her representation per her indigent status as an established fee but he didn't qualify. Even Dr. Lee that said he was pro bono originally got paid by the State as he was never paid anything by Baez/KC.

If many recall, due to Baez wanting to dump KC perhaps after she ran out of money and indigent, Baez was informed he couldn't draw a salary from system, the law was amended in Fla. that an attorney "retained" privately by a defendant "can't dump the client" once the client runs out of money, they have to remain on the case. This amendment was changed preventing Baez from leaving the case claiming he wasn't being paid, this case was cited as the reason to the change in the law by legal analyst.

Ann - Tx - I do think KC/Baez will continue to work together as far as securing monies somehow from anyone willing to pay her after the civil suits are dismissed in the bankruptcy claim. Though outrageous, imo, she will be granted the claim as she has no money AT this time.

The thing that really pisses me off is that, imo, this was always the plan, to SCREW the system over one more time and [b] SCREWING the attorney's representing those in the Civil Suits that are working on contingencies.

They say KARMA is a bitch with a long memory, I believe that, look at the POS OJ.

The mere mention of the name Casey Anthony makes me shudder. It is a story that just will not go away. Last week saw yet more developments in the case that most people could not care less about. Charged with the senseless murder of her daughter Caylee, she was found not guilty. It was to many people a travesty of justice, somewhat akin to the OJ Simpson criminal trial. Sometimes the legal system is imperfect, but it is the system that we have, and is preferable to what happens in other parts of the world.

imo, KC will skate on all the financial hardships she caused those that were involved in the search for the child she murdered, she continues to see herself as a murderer, she will never admit to being the murderer of Caylee.

What she has put people through is more than horrendous. Caylee, Caylee's memory, family, the county, the state and the world. I believe she murdered Caylee. She should be held accountable for the drowning scenario the defense postulated (didn't prove). As well as Kronk and Gonzalez. This is part of what is wrong with our society. People literally getting away with murder, no responsibility for their actions and little repercussions. The law protects the wrongdoers. The good people like Tim get screwed.

Lash - you make many good points. In addition, only in America can you murder your child and your parents make hundred's of thousands off the murder of their only grandchild seeing themselves at times as celebrities, participating in media blitz promoting what a great parent the murderer was, and lying for the murderer presenting ridiculous scenarios. I heard you "are my sunshine" the other day and I teared up immediately, Caylee's innocence touched so many of us, it's hard to believe there will never be Justice for her on this earth.

imo, the laws should change in the bankruptcy courts, a Judgement many times is another form or ONLY form of Justice that victims couldn't seek in a Criminal Court, which was the case of my sister's death by a doctor. Why couldn't a Judgement last a lifetime especially since the circumstances could change? KC has the ability at some point to make monies, she will have the ability to PAY on the monies she would have owed in a Judgement, at least, when she promotes herself to anyone that will pay her $$$$$ for something related to the murder she commited imo.

TAMPA -- The Casey Anthony storm has come and gone at the federal courthouse in Tampa as she met with the creditors in her bankruptcy case.

Casey hid her face from a flurry of photographers as her attorney, Cheney Mason, walked her under his arm throughthe crowd to the front door of the courthouse around 10:30 a.m. Monday, three hours ahead of her 1:30 p.m. hearing. She left just before 2:30 p.m.
