Elvia Flores -- Found Alive 4/13/10 G12c0008b2f505e488205395a757b0ed5838e4c1cfcf7ba

LIVE OAK, Calif. (CBS) California police say 14-year-old Elvia Flores and her friend were walking towards school Monday when the they were attacked by several men.

Flores yelled "run" and the girls tried to flee. Hours later, the friend woke up in a field, remembering nothing, according to Sutter County Sheriff's Sergeant Glenn Mercer. Flores was gone.

The California Highway Patrol issued an amber alert for Flores late Monday night, CBS affiliate KOVR reports. Flores' mother told police she dropped her daughter and the friend, also 14, off at school before 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The friend, whose name has not been released, told investigators she was grabbed from behind and pulled into a brown 4-door sedan. The suspects are allegedly four to five Hispanic men, say police.

One of the suspects was described as tall, wearing a black t-shirt and black ball cap with the word "NorCal" in either red or orange, say police.

Flores' friend told investigators she woke up in an open field in Orland, over 60 miles from Live Oak High School where she was attacked.

A California Highway Patrol officer picked her up and brought her to the Orland Police Department, said KOVR.

The girl told investigators she didn't remember what happened between the time she was allegedly abducted and when she woke up in the field.

A CARE alert was issued just after 10:30 p.m. Monday. Sheriff's officials said they waited more than six hours to issue an alert because they were taking the necessary time to corroborate the girl's story.

The missing girl, Elvia Flores, is described as Hispanic, about 5'2" tall, 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in a white shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Authorities told KOVR that they have no reason to be suspicious of the girl's story.

Anyone with information on Elvia's whereabouts is asked to call the Sutter County Sheriff's Department at (530) 822-7307.

Girl May Have Been Abducted As Payback
Family Went To Cops After Girl Was Assaulted
Monday Was Supposed To Be Elvia's Last Day At High School Before Moving

LIVE OAK, Calif. (CBS13) ― The father of the Sutter County girl who has been missing since Monday thinks his daughter's disappearance is payback for something that happened weeks ago.

Jose Flores, the father of missing 14-year-old Elvia Flores, says that Elvia was allegedly assaulted by a woman two weeks ago. The family decided to press charges against the woman and she was arrested. Jose thinks the abduction was in retaliation for getting law enforcement involved.

Sutter County Sheriff's Department is investigating Jose's claims.

It was also revealed Tuesday that Elva may have known her abductors who allegedly grabbed her at school yesterday morning. It was also revealed that Monday was to be her last day at that school before moving.

Sheriff's deputies were at Live Oak High School today searching for Elvia. She was allegedly snatched along with her 14-year-old friend Elizabeth in front of Live Oak High School. The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for Flores late Monday night.

Elizabeth was found yesterday around noon in the town of Orland, 60 miles from school. She was picked up by CHP officer Tim Horwath who spotted her crying at a gas station on South Street at Interstate 5.

Officer Horwath says Elizabeth told him she had been kidnapped and could not find her friend, Elvia. He also says Elizabeth's blue jeans had been "ripped open on her left leg and her shirt was torn".

Officer Horwath took Elizabeth to the Orland Police Department where her parents were called. Orland Police Chief Paula Carr says it didn't appear that Elizabeth had been drugged or sexually assaulted. But Elizabeth could not explain why her clothes were torn, according to Carr.

Elizabeth told Orland police that Elvia might have known the suspects.
"There's a possibility Elvia knew the people in the car," Chief Carr said. "So there may be some connection there because we don't have Elvia yet."

Elvia's mother told authorities that she dropped off Elvia and Elizabeth at school before 8:30 a.m. Monday and that is was supposed to be Elvia's last day at the school before moving with her family to Yuba City.

According Sutter County Sheriff's Sergeant Glenn Mercer, Elizabeth said they were walking toward the school when Flores yelled, "run."

She says was then grabbed from behind and pulled into a car. She describes four to five Hispanic men being in the vehicle. Elizabeth says the next thing she remembers is waking up in the field in Orland.

The principal of Live Oak High School tells CBS13 that no law enforcement told him about the incident. He learned of the alleged abduction from a news website and he called deputies.

"I'm extremely surprised. This is a very busy area. We have a very safe campus," said Live Oak High School principal Matt Gulbrandsen. "We want the best for our students. And we hope Elvia gets back very, very soon."

Elizabeth was not able to give good descriptions of her alleged abductors. One of them may have been tall, wearing a black T-shirt and black ball cap with the word "NorCal" in either red or orange. They were reportedly driving a large, light brown sedan.

A CARE alert was issued just after 10:30 p.m. Monday. When asked why they waited more than six hours to issue the alert, Sheriff's officials said they were taking the necessary time to corroborate the friend's story.

Elvia is described as a Hispanic female, about 5'2" tall, 110 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Authorities told CBS13 they have no reason to be suspicious of Elizabeth's story. Late Monday afternoon, they interviewed school staff about both girls, hoping to gain information that will help them find Elvia.

Anyone with information on Elvia's whereabouts is asked to call the Sutter County Sheriff's Department at (530) 822-7307.

Elvia obviously recognized the danger of who was approaching them. How old was this woman that attacked her? It does sound like retaliation.....gang involvement. I wonder if the other woman's "man" was talking to Elvia...
I hope she comes up safe and unharmed like her friend Elizabeth.

Missing Live Oak girl found in Gridley
Teen had been missing since Monday
April 14, 2010 11:50:00 PM

Elvia Flores, the 14-year-old Live Oak girl first thought to have been abducted, was found Wednesday afternoon in Gridley, a Sutter County Sheriff's Department official said.

Gridley-Biggs police called the Sheriff's Department at 2 p.m. and said Flores had been spotted walking down an alley near Oak Street. A boyfriend who reportedly picked Flores up Monday morning north of Live Oak was not with her, said spokeswoman Brenda Baker.

Flores was being interviewed later Wednesday by the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Lt. James Casner said investigators have not learned the identity of the boyfriend.

Flores text-messaged the boyfriend to pick her up Monday morning, he said.

Flores' family and her friend, 14-year-old Elizabeth Felix, say they don't know the identity of the boyfriend, said Casner.

Felix apparently left in the same car with Flores and showed up alone later Monday in Orland. Felix said Flores willingly got into the car, according to Casner.

An Amber Alert for Flores was canceled early Wednesday.

The short disappearance of Felix is being investigated as a kidnapping because she said a second male forced her into the car, said Casner, who declined to say what charges Felix might face if her story turns out not to be true.

Felix originally said she and Flores were abducted by four or five Hispanic males, one of whom wore a black hat and a black shirt with the word Nor Cal in red or orange. She said she blacked out after the man put his hand over her mouth and woke up in a field in Orland.

Felix is still saying the same man is the one who forced her into the car north of Live Oak, said Casner.

The second man's identity also is unknown, he said.

Felix's sister, Maria Felix, answered a phone call Wednesday at her residence, but said she was too busy to talk to a reporter and would call back. She did not return the call.

Maria Felix said Tuesday the alleged kidnapping may have been a revenge attack by friends of a female arrested for attacking Flores and breaking her nose about two weeks ago near her home. The Sheriff's Department said it responded to that attack and an earlier one about Flores a month ago at the high school.

Monday was going to be Flores' last day at Live Oak High School because her family is in the process of moving to Yuba City, said Casner.

Elvia Flores found safe in Gridley; charges 'a possibility' against Live Oak teen
April 14, 2010

SUTTER COUNTY, CA - Charges could be filed against two Live Oak teenagers whose disappearance Monday sparked an Amber Alert and an area-wide two-day search, according to the Sutter County Sheriff's Department.

Elvia Flores was found safe in Gridley Wednesday afternoon, Sutter County Sheriff's Sgt. Glen Mercer said.

Flores, 14, was spotted by a Gridley police officer as she walked down an alley on Oak Street in Gridley around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Mercer said Flores was in good physical condition and was "non-emotional" as she was interviewed about her disappearance by Sutter County Sheriff's investigators.

Flores claimed she didn't know her family and law enforcement were looking for her and only left Live Oak High School Monday morning to accompany a 15-year-old friend, Mercer said.

At a news conference Wednesday morning before Flores was found, Lt. James Casner with the Sutter County Sheriff's Department said officers had enough information to determine Flores was not abducted, but left school voluntarily with her boyfriend. An Amber Alert for the teen was also cancelled Wednesday morning.
