Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
Thanks for sharing this KH ..as per their request...
I wud like to reposnd and hope that you share this with the writer...
Dear Momlogic,
Thank you for sharing your article. I would like to respond. Aftyer reading your post, I note that you sympathize with Kyron's step mom, but have reservations despite of it. I also note that you seem to be a little unsettled with the fact that the family didnt come out to speak until just recently and very briefly.
I will quote you ..
" I can’t help but wonder why the family didn’t come out and address the public sooner. Why didn’t they immediately reach out (beg, gravel, cajole) for help finding their son?"
You go on to say that you have dealt with 100's ofd abduction cases and note that all reactions are very diverse, and you also note that you are not saying that you feel step mom is involved at all..
I am personally glad that you shared your opinion, this with your fellow members, and the net for that matter..
You suggest their shock may bhave been the reason that they have not been in the media..
You could be right. I personally think they were probably advised to refrain from going in front of any camera for a more crucial reason.
On account that you have followed many abduction cases, I suspect you have seen the how the ppl who speak end up hurting themselves as they are scrutinized and evaluated by the jury of public opinion as to what they should or shouldnt have said, how they said it, why they said it differently that what was reportewd, how they look, if their tears are real or fake.....
On account of this, I personally think it is a very good move.. This way it keeps Kyrons disappearance in the media and all over the internet, without giving the media and some bloggers unwarranted ammunition to overlook Kyron and focus in on ppl who arent missing...
After seeing the Cummings case, it was a good example as to how the jury of public opinion has been influential in leading the investigation, as well as seeing how those ppl were torn apart.. I wonder if they never talked at all to the media or in interviews, if they wud be sitting in jail right now?
If I ever had the oppurtunity to give any advice to a guardian or parent of a missing child, I wud strongly advise them to never speak publically.. it will only hurt them.. we have seen that too many times and it hasnt helped in any case...

AW: I wuz talkin to my tubby.......... how would we come off on national tv? Woule they dig into our past an dissect our future? Certainly. I honestly don't think we would pass the "stink" test of the national media. Many families (not just my own) have fought battles, won or lost,... I hate to say this, but if it was MY daughter missing and everyone decided to broadcast everything that was wrong with MY family? They could keep JVM or NG buty for months! (PS: I would tell em to piss off............which would only play to more speculation!)

lol KH...
The sad reality is that dysfunction or no dysfunction, no one is safe... It is appearing to me more and more everyday that anyone (in North America) is guilty before proven innocent...
I think the most perfect family, with the least dysfunction in the whole world wud be ripped to shreds..They wudnt cry right, or they wud change the structure of their sentence... they wudnt wear the right clothes.. everything they say wud have a double meaning and they wud ripped apart..then lies wud start being strewn about their life and many wud believe the lies and hate the family, and blame them, then the investigation wud turn to pot, and the crime wud go unsolved, yet the agencies wud do all in their power to get them behind bars for someting... Sad..
And if they dont speak out, and LE finds no evidence that the child was taken ..they put it bak on the parents too, with the way they talk in their pressers.. they leave room for speculation...

All families are different in how they handle things like this, but I think in Kyron's case I've seen a pretty odd handling of things by both his families. No one talks, then when they finally do, it's the least attached person - his step dad- who happens to be a cop.
Then his real dad says a few words...he sounds defeated to me....the mothers? Nothing.
The mother who birthed him, and did not have custody of him...nothing...the stepmom who raised him...nothing. Why? Why did both women get left out?
In my humble opionion, they didn't want the real mom to talk because then the stepmom would be the only one not talking and that would make her suspect.
A look at the mothers during the men's speeches shows stepmom dabbing her face and eyes while real mom is just in shock and numb. Did anyone see any actual moisture in need of being dabbed by Terri? I didn't! She looked all the world to me reminiscent of Casey doing her fake dabbing.
I've read around where some ponder why, if Terri was planning on doing something with Kyron, she'd show up at the Science Fair and be seen that morning with him. To me, it's the perfect timing!
She shows up, all is well, she says bye, all is well, oops Kyron disappears so she can't have done anything? I can think of plenty of ways she could have gotten hold of Kyron again and not be seen.
Where was she after she left the school? Anyone know? Does she work? Does she have an alibi? If not, she's number one suspect for getting rid of the child that's not hers so she can also get rid of her husband's ex-wife out of her life.
How old is the child Terri and Kyrons' dad have together? I'd say shortly after that child was born, Terri had no more use for Kyron. It happens!

I was just going to say that, kh, no such thing as a perfect family, IMO. In today's world, the Ozzie and Harriett family just doesn't exist.

lol KH......
I find it sad to see that normal everyday ppl who are smart, like good conversation, and are ppl who like to be informed..even ppl I like.... always look at the glass half empty..
I find it shocking to see (on the internet, and media) are ppl who really believe that just about anyone, kills and then tries to hide it..To think that the average joe kills and also has the luxury of having a whole wack of ppl who wud protect them and help cover up a murder is almost ludicrous.. I will admit that we saw that in the Caylee case, which I highly doubt is common or the norm..????????? I do think most have a conscience and morals that "thou shall not kill"
Wow...I am a real believer that a very small percentage in this world, actually kills !
The type of killing that I see as most common are crimes of passion (where there is clear evidence ..of a disgruntled spouse who kills the mother of his children where we see he has receipts of clean up materials, no alibi, defensive wounds and a clear motive) then we see the other type of killing where a clear struggle ensued during drinking/drugging and one man/woman kills another in the heated moment where these killings are usually witnessed by others...then there are the crimes of passion where the perp actually picks up the ohone and admiots what happened and what he/she did...
To think that our everyday person (nextdoor neighbor) is likely one who wud kill and hide it, hust doesnt ring true to me...
Despite the busy world we live in, I still doubt very much that the average joe...kills.. I do find comefort in my belief and doubt that ppl will change where we all become crazy....
I suspect becasue becoming of informed of the type of crazy case like the Caylee case, many of us have become influenced and are now seeing guilt before innosence..This is a sad thing..what will become of our world that we live in?
How many of the baby boomer generation will start being tried as their spouses will be dying in the next 2 decades to come? Will many be wrongly charged in their spouse/parent's death because one of them had life insurance?
I cant see how anyone wud blame Kyrons family for not speaking out (as much as they may want too) only becasue society will dissect their everyword and expression and try them in the juryt of public opinion.. If they talk, it wud be a no brainer to know that the majority will believe everything they hear and read and convict them!

Agreed. My mom-in-law (96 years old) swears we just hear more about it than we used to with the 24/7 news and all (she would gladly go back to the 30-minute Walter Cronkite newscast, who wouldn't?!) kh

Exactly... I think that is one of the largest downfalls with the internet.. many of us have become poisoned and have lost faith in human mankind because of the few heinous crimes we hear about..
I watched a 48 hours where a 60ish yr old man was charged with his wifes death and there was no evidence of foul play... the motive they said was that their mortgage renewal was up and he had lost his job becasue of his health.. the both families said that he wudnt hurt a fly and was a good husband and father... her casue of death was inclusive as they cudnt tell what she dies of but there was no bruising, no drugs, and no reason ..it was only ruled a homicide becasue they cud not find the cause of death...Guess what ..he was convicted...surprise surprise
I suspect these types of deaths are common.. the new and upcoming pathologists have grown up with the net and CSI and cold case shows... this is scary.. maybe our elderly population shouldnt worry so much about retirement savings and where they will live.. maybe many of them will be in the slammer for losing their partners to unexplained deaths... and being wrongfully convicted by jurors who have been plagued by the "no trust syndrome"...who grew up believing that ppl just kill for little to no reason...

See! You just gave more clues! you said "his project was the Red Spotted tree frog " 1 . Where did he get this tree frog? 2. Was anyone with him when he got it ? did he happen to talk to anyone while getting it.
Look this school is in a remote location, not to many people around there. It has to be somebody that has some connection to the school or that would even know a SF was there that day... MY Prayers and HF thoughs

They are re-interviewing all the parents, hopefully that will include all school personnel as well. I just don't think a complete stranger walked in there off the street....this person is known to all of these people. Were there any deliveries to the school that morning.......just so many questions and I'm sure they are covering all the bases. Let's hope for some good news today on Kyron...

Piper, I too agree that the perp was known to one and all but of course no one knew how sick this person is...
Reminds me that the perp is very much "blended"..and unsuspecting ..
I remember how BTK had been interviewed and was on the news about animals being found dead, and he was the perp of that too not too mention being responsible for so many dead ppl...
ALso, (I cant remember the names) but there was a young woman killed by a serial killer who turned out to be the highway patrol/LE who wud pull over girls and then kill them.. Great LE work cracked the case, and found out the perp was one of their own....
Hopefully LE dont drop the ball... clearly there is a sick perp within the community....
We had a an incident in one of schools 2 yrs ago where a perp who was said to be unknown and unlinked to any student, hid in the bathroom of the school and molested a 7 or 8 yr old girl... THANKFULLY ,she lived to tell... This perp has never been caught.. The composite never triggered anyonesd mind to have been able to identify him.... Our schools security systems and policies were changed here...

Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
Interestingly - just as we suspected would happen when this first started - the parents can do NOTHING right!! They stayed out of the public eye for so long - I think because LE told them too - they said so in the presser - go back to your normal lives and don't help... stay away from fb, etc... (which I have to admit is not bad advice) BUT the family does what they're told - and ppl criticize - then the MINUTE they walk on stage in front of cameras - ppl criticize - they didn't cry enough, or they smiled, or maybe they sneezed and danced a jig but regardless, my point is that they can do NOTHING right - someone somewhere is going to criticize their actions - I agree w/ many others on here - if it was me and my family in front of the national spotlight - i wouldn't pass the test - every post that I've ever written in regards to missing children, every search that i've done on all of these children would show up on my computer and then be analyzed by all of you and others - and I would fail miserably. You would criticize me as I cried and cussed at whoever took my child (Somer Thompson's mother), or you would criticize because I was the last one with them and no one could corroborate my story (Jessica Lundsford's family) or if it happened in the dead of night I might be criticized for not waking up (Polly Klaas family) or the child is taken right under your nose (Elizabeth Smart) and how does that happen??
See, right now - those are all examples of how AFTERWARD - after the smoke cleared, the families WERE exonerated - but not before they were silently, or perhaps publicly criticized for their involvement and yet even as bloggers, we consistenly and continuously feed this behaviour - at least for now, until one of our own is on trial - then do we turn on them as cannibals? Or do we change our ways and learn that we are innocent until PROVEN guilty - not in the court of public opinion, but in a court of our peers?
I've been guilty - VERY guilty of "convicting" someone just days after the fact - but I am consciously trying to make that change - to NOT be SO judgemental - sure we all have our OPINIONS as we are all entitled, I'm just trying to open mine up a little more as I have been wrong in the past, and probably will be again - but it's not fair to the families that are truly victims.

Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
Well put Tish...
I too have been judgmental in cases where I now make a concerted effort to be impartial .. You said it.. No family can do anything right!
Especially if the family has any dysfunction (Cummings/Croslin, Lunsford ...)
The sad part is that the only reason we have seen some families be "exonerated"..is only becasue the remains were found... In cases where they arent found, the families dont stand a hope in hell...
While many of us are busy judging and condeming.. we are letting the perps get away and laugh only to reoffend..
I want to say that the biggest tragedy where this narrow mindeness sets in (Haleigh) is for the family ..but its not.. It is for the victim (Haleigh) and the very real possibility that the perp is walking artound scott free..Meanwhile the victim is gone, their family is ruined for life, and maybe even sitting in jail, and there is a perp who will be guyaranteed to strike again.. knowing that if he hides the remains well enough.. the parents will be blamed!
Sick.. it is just sick and it seems to be getting worse ...Why are we letting this happen?
No motive, no evidence (surely LE wud have found evidence by now had step mom or the Cummings/Croslins) been involved... Instead we all sit in our armchairs and criticize every move the famil has and will make... even though there is no evidence..
Ppl who murder, and are not known violent ppl and are not hardened criminals, cant commit perfect crimes... We are silly to think that the avverage joe wud ever get away with murder....

Hi tish! Nice to meet you!
Here is a sample of what I have seen today on various boards- All PROOF POSITIVE that the stepmother must be in some way involved:
1. Suavie Island {I have no eye deer what this means}
2. the white truck sighting / they may own white truck {Not entirely sure what this means either}
3. no parents went to his talent show {Schedules conflict... I can't always be at my kid's stuff at school and neither can my tubby........ sometimes we just can't work our work schedules around. Doesn't mean we want to get rid of em}
4. why the teacher counted Kyron absent
5. The parents not speaking out, pleading or looking {Give it a rest! My understanding is that LE has asked the not to}
6. LE asking for video footage of the day before the disappearance. {not sure what this is about}
7. When was the last time the white truck was driven, who drove it and where.
8. Why did the dad have custody anyway??? {Sh!t happens. You do what is best for the parties involved.}
And...... my personal favorite:
9. If the step mom married the dad and was raising the boy, why don't they all have the same last name??? {RU kiddin me? And this proves what eggzactly?}
Honestly, I just dunno what's wrong with people these days.

KH,
Im not sure which one of those are the most ridiculous..
I hope none of those ppl ever have a tragedy in their families or to themselves where their innocence is questioned for such stupid reasons..
I suspect LE are looking for strange vehicles in the area from the day before ..who was in the area?? who came into town..who was new???
I am sure step moms computer verified her activities along with her cell phone (if she has one)..
On account that he was seen with step mom on the morning of.. the fact that LE are looking for the day before, leads away from the family 100 percent..
Im not sure which one of those are the most ridiculous..

Speaking as a stepmother (who was the BEST thing that ever happened to her stepkids)......... I have to admit: I am sensitive about villifying the stepmom JUST BECAUSE she is the stepmom. Come on! With the rate of divorce well over 50% in this country........ we blend! We adjust. We accept. We move forward. This whole "wicked stepmother" thing is ridiculous! And having a decent relationship with the other parents involved in raising your (that's collective, "your") child is a reason to celebrate, not dessicrate! Just my opinion. kh

Here is a sample of what I have seen today on various boards- All PROOF POSITIVE that the stepmother must be in some way involved:
1. Suavie Island {I have no eye deer what this means}
2. the white truck sighting / they may own white truck {Not entirely sure what this means either}
3. no parents went to his talent show {Schedules conflict... I can't always be at my kid's stuff at school and neither can my tubby........ sometimes we just can't work our work schedules around. Doesn't mean we want to get rid of em}
4. why the teacher counted Kyron absent
5. The parents not speaking out, pleading or looking {Give it a rest! My understanding is that LE has asked the not to}
6. LE asking for video footage of the day before the disappearance. {not sure what this is about}
7. When was the last time the white truck was driven, who drove it and where.
8. Why did the dad have custody anyway??? {Sh!t happens. You do what is best for the parties involved.}
And...... my personal favorite:
9. If the step mom married the dad and was raising the boy, why don't they all have the same last name??? {RU kiddin me? And this proves what eggzactly?}
Honestly, I just dunno what's wrong with people these days.
kh
kh, besides the overall ridiculousness of all these "reasons" the stepmother must be involved, they are just plain wrong. The father's name is Kaine HORMAN, the stepmother's name is Terri Moulton HORMAN and, of course, Kyron's last name is HORMAN, as well....... so they DO all have the same last name.....
Why don't the people who post this crap get a life and stop LOOKING for reasons to blame an innocent person. I mean, seriously!!

I saw the Riley Fox post Piper. It looks like another case where LE focused on an innocent member of the family with tunnel vision while the real perp remained free.
In this case some bloggers are focusing on the family, especially the stepmom, but luckily I don't think LE is.
I really hope they are close to solving this and finding Kyron.

I'm thinking that LE may have info that indicates the school was being "cased" if you will... the perp drove by or sat in the car the day before watching for victims - and the second day found one? JMO - but that would be one reason why they would ask for video the day before - are there any maps of the area to know why these streets are significant in relation to the school? This would also correspond with AJ's theory on the other failed abduction just 20 mi away in such a short period of time...

Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
I just dunno, tish. The 'stranger who isn't really a stranger" abduction/murder theory may be in play here (someone who is familiar at the school and could pass in and out easily and may even have built a trust relationship with the kiddo). We just don't know. And, remember, RSOs have generally committed many crimes without ever being apprehended before (kind of like when they say that a drunk driver has driven at least 100 times drunk before without ever being caught or injuring someone) and it can easily escalate to more daring scenarios.
My jury is out on this one. I think the school dropped the ball, if the reports are to be believed. A kid can be snatched in a matter or seconds. It doesn't take all day. Remember Sandra Cantu? (Lord, rest her soul and console her family). One minute she was skipping down the street........ the next minute GONE.

Yes J4A, .. and very similar to the Cummings case...
A little girl Riley Fox was put to bed one night along with her little brother.. In the morning she was gone! She was inb her dads care while the mother was out of town...
The father was wrongly convicted and by the grace of god, the real perp actually confessed to the rape and murder...
From an excerpt from the article link below...
" Around 1 a.m., Kevin returned home with the children, who were both fast asleep. He put Tyler on a chair in the living room and Riley on a couch, covering her with a yellow blanket. He went to bed and slept until Tyler woke him to tell him Riley was gone.
" From the beginning, the Foxes believed an intruder came into their house and kidnapped Riley.
But investigators didn't think the house showed signs of forced entry, and, more importantly, they figured it would take a great deal of planning or luck for the killer to sneak into the house and snatch Riley during the few hours when her father was asleep and her mother wasn't home.
" They also wondered why Kevin waited 40 minutes after realizing his daughter was missing before calling the police. Kevin said when he was growing up he learned that the only time to call 911 is, "if there is a fire ... I never ... I never thought my daughter was kidnapped. Never, never in a thousand years," he said.
" The summer progressed with no named suspects, and public support for the family waned after a TV report portrayed the parents as indifferent to the death of their little girl. Rumors started swirling
" Kevin said the investigators told him to take a polygraph test, and he agreed, confident he'd pass. But afterwards, detectives told him he had failed. Finally, Kevin broke, offering a statement admitting he killed Riley. "
http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/killed-riley-fox/story?id=6196896
The 2nd last excerpt is the scary one where the public become suspicious which seems to give LE the go ahead to close in on the family.. It is a viscous circle betwen LE and the media and the public.. I hope ppl realize how influential we the public are and how much power we actually hold in terms of charges/convictions.. SCARY!!!!
Then of course there is the old (un)reliable POLY that he failed!!!! When are we as society going to start being more impartial? We cant believe that all tools that are used are fool proof.. Nor cvan we believe everything LE says or the press.. IUm beginning to think society is way more gullable than I ever imagined..

So sad. So sad for everyone.
Good Lord! What would LE find if I went missing??? They would surely look at my compute.... and what would they find? Google searches of the most unsettling kind! A pension for murders, abductions and mysteries of the maternal, paternal, fraternal and matrimonial kind! YE GADS! What else?
Would they assume it was one of my 'chat mates' that tracked my IP address, made there way from that town to mine, and then did me in with a cast iron skillet? Who knows? Would they announce to the world that I was a 'kook'? That I had no life other than "my fantasy life on the WWW?" That I could have met someone, anyone, on the internet who might stalk and find me in order to do me in?
And what if they looked at my past? My tubbie's past? We have both had terrible marriages before. We have both sown our own wild oats and settled for wildflowers. We have both been guilty and innocent of socially unacceptable behavior. We have both lost our temper. He has been bankrupt, so have I. We have money issues (who doesn't?). Custody issues. Familial issues. That's life. And it goes on. And you do your best.
So what if it was me? What if MY kid didn't get off the bus at 4:00 in this sleepy rural town that I live in? What then?

Its so sad KH, and you are right...
Us bloggers puters wud be a treasure chest (in either case ..whether we are the missing, or the victim) ...
I guess unlike KC... there prolly arent isolated searches lol...
I was looking for that crime story where the sherrif/patrolman killed that young girl who pulled her over to pretend he was issuing her a ticket..
I put in google... ticket murder girl rape....
ouch!.. when looking for stories it is easy to pick out key words..
again unlike KC who looked for neckbreaking and missing children and chloroform.. the sead thing is .. clealry she wasnt looking up a story of an already committed crime.. she created the crime with all those key words..
I have no problem in writing a " message" in all my posts that are relatred to this topic..
PPl need to know that judging and influencing is a horrible thing to do especially when anyone cud fall victim to the likes of this ongoing problem of guilty till proven innocent...Their own self or their kids ..or a family member..
If anyone asked Ed Smart or Riley's dad, or the Lunsfords, I can pretty well promise that none of them wud have ever imagined being in their awful predicament... Why are so many so quick to judge? It is destructive and dangerous.. We are influential and no matter how you look at it, it is wrong..
Its not a case of a person saying it ok if they are wrong, as they need to look at the represussions that they are inflicting on others prolly needlessly.. IT is harmful.

LMAO!! I've always said LE could link me to every cold case around if they looked at my hard drive.
I'm glad to see we are not the only ones who think the SM is being railroaded. My personal feeling is the pictures. So many pictures of a happy family doing fun things together. People don't suddenly harm a child they spent so much love, time and energy on.
I also think it is possible Kyron is still inside that school. I know if he is and is "gone" the smell should lead somebody to him, but we have seen many cases where bodies have been in plain sight and not found for years, so who is to say for sure a smell would leak out and be noticed in a building that large?
Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
That's a good point Jag - esp considering what happened to Annie Le - and it took LE 5 days to find her!!!! Kyron is much smaller than she was - and could fit in a much smaller space.

JAG~ I have thought that too. Maybe Kyron had an accident somewhere inside the school?
I am hearing today about pings, white pick up truck and a new pic of Kyron without his glasses. Does anyone know anything about that? kh

John Walsh: Mistakes Made In Kyron Case
'Gut Feeling' Is There's Person Of Interest, Walsh Says
POSTED: 6:59 am PDT June 17, 2010
UPDATED: 7:39 am PDT June 17, 2010
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The disappearance of Skyline School second-grader Kyron Horman has gained the attention of many national media outlets and personalities, including John Walsh of "America's Most Wanted."
Walsh, whose son was kidnapped and killed as a 6-year-old, said in an interview with FOX 12 on Thursday that the lack of information in the case and the time that has passed does not bode well for finding Kyron alive.
"As the time goes on, the odds get less that they're going to find him alive, but we never give up hope," Walsh said. "After finding Jaycee Dugard after 18 years and Elizabeth Smart after eight months … you have to keep the investigation as intense as you can."
Seven-year-old Kyron disappeared June 4. His stepmother told deputies that she last saw him in the school hallway walking toward class. Later that afternoon, she called the school and said Kyron failed to show up at his school bus stop later in the afternoon.
Walsh said the school should have automatically notified the parents when Kyron was not in class.
"I think a couple mistakes were made in the beginning by the school not calling the parents ... I've been involved in hundreds of cases where crucial hours were lost when the child wasn't discovered missing until the parents go to the bus stop and the child doesn't show up later in the afternoon," Walsh said. "That shouldn't happen in any school in America."
Portland Public Schools have since added the automatic call system to Kyron's school.
Multnomah County sheriff's deputies have not said whether any evidence has been found, but, four days ago, they announced the boy's disappearance is a criminal investigation.
"My gut feeling is they have a person of interest and they're trying to make sure they don't make mistakes that would compromise the case," Walsh said. "Of course, we all have to hold out hope this person is keeping Kyron alive and that the best end result is this boy will be gotten back alive."
Since the announcement of the criminal investigation, divers have been spotted in Portland-area waterways. Deputies have not announced any suspects or persons of interest in the case.
"I'm sure police are looking at family members very hard. That's a normal procedure, but there should be a parallel investigation going on in case it's a crime of opportunity -- a sexual predator or a convicted sex offender -- who may have been tracking this little boy, who may have seen him at school a couple times and may have grabbed him," Walsh said.
Deputies said Kyron's family has fully cooperated with the investigation. Kyron's father and his stepfather made a statement to media last week, but otherwise, the family has not answered questions.
Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, has spoken with a FOX 12 reporter over the phone and expressed her thanks for the efforts of the community and search crews, but neither she nor stepmother Terri Moulton Horman has sat down for an interview.
"I'm surprised that either the police have kept the family from the media or the parents have chosen. It's their personal choice," Walsh said. "But if I were those parents, I'd be on every media outlet I could saying 'I need to get little Kyron back.'"
Sheriff's deputies have said it's crucial that photos of Kyron stay in the public. Billboards have been set up at various points in the city, missing fliers have been distributed to the community and T-shirts that bear Kyron's photo have been given away at the sheriff's office.
Kyron has now been missing 13 days.
"We're hoping someone saw something and will have the courage to come forward," Walsh said.
"America's Most Wanted" will feature a segment on Kyron on Saturday at 9 p.m. on FOX 12 Oregon.

The parents should always be called if the child doesn't show up to their first class or any class for that matter. Walsh said he's been involved in hundreds of cases where crucial hours were lost when the child wasn't discovered missing until the parents went to the bus stop or the child didn't come home after school. This is unacceptable and should never happen. Any school that doesn't call the parents when their child doesn't show up to class needs to change their policies immediately.

If the account from the substitute teacher is accurate where she told the teacher that Kyron wasnt in the group anymore.. none of the new policies wud have changed the outcome...
Clearly the teacher shud have stopped what she was doing and had the substitute teacher wait, while the other went and found him.... That is where the neglect of this case happened if these allegations are correct...
Of course I agre with the new policies and they shud be in place in every school (with video surveilalance in every school in north america) my point is that we keep hearing about these calling policies where that wasnt really the problem here... attewndance wud have already been taken and the child was missed after that point in time

I know in the state of TX at any point the teacher MUST know how many kids she/he has in daycare or school and if they don't know if asked spontaneously, it is actually grounds for dismissal... I wish this would be applied in other states as well. If a teachers job depended on it, maybe they would take it more seriously.

From what I've read, there weren't actually any substitutes in that day. Maybe it could have been one of the parent helpers that was leading the smaller groups of children around.
Either way, the policy that was in place was not fit for purpose and unfortunately had there been a better one, as AJ pointed out, it would not have been effective anyway.

I thought I read somewhere that the teacher later marked Kyron absent after the sub told her Kyron didn't return with the group. I may have read that at another site and not in an article though. I think if he was marked absent at any point during the day as several articles said he was marked absent at some point, his parents should have been called.

Rumor mill in Kyron Horman disappearance reaches fever pitch
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 7:11 PM
Updated: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 9:35 PM
Kate Mather, The Oregonian
Two weeks into the investigation of 7-year-old Kyron Horman's disappearance, one of the few things certain about the case is that rampant rumors show no signs of abating.
Various reports poured in Thursday from different social media outlets claiming breaking developments. The phenomenon began with the first news of the second-grader's disappearance June 4 from Skyline School, but now appears to be intensifying. Among the false claims: an arrest in the case and that Kyron had been found.
Sheriff's officials were not only quick to denounce the speculation, but also expressed concern about the effect the rumors might have on Kyron's family. "They're not thinking about how the information that they're spreading can affect others," said Lt. Mary Lindstrand, spokeswoman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office has been fielding calls from the public in response to the erroneous information spreading online, she said.
Although much of the speculation originates on Facebook and Twitter, Portland TV station KOIN posted a story on its website Thursday afternoon with the headline, "Kyron Horman's body found."
KOIN News Director Lynn Heider said the post was a mistake and only appeared online, not on any broadcast.
"We apologize for the obvious emotional stress that this posting created," the station said in a statement on its website. "The posting was the result of internal miscommunication, and should not have occurred. This incident has prompted additional internal policies to prevent further occurrences."

Re: Kyron Horman -- Missing 6/4/10 #1
Thanks for bringing this Julie,
I have to say that I respect that LE has come forward and addressed the rumours (unlike many LE agencies have done in many cases)....
I will say that it really doesnt matter what LE says now as apparently once the band wagon is on full force, the believeing is selective..
I have now reads (on other sites) that LE is "just saying that, to treick the family".....
I wish they had have come out earlier and been more "convincing" instead of leaving too much to the imagination (we arent calling it an abduction yet) and not parading them thru the media where they allowed 5 questions to be given to the family via the sherrif..
It is CRIMINAL, imo how they did not even call this criminal for nearly 2 weeks of Kyrons disappearance...
That in itself is clearly going to be misconstrued...
That was a stupid statement by LE and makes me have to ask, if he had have been returned the day earlier... wud it have only been a Misdemeanor???????
I hope the video (imo, asked for way too late) gives some clues as to where Kyron is and who is responsible.. Hopefully most of the surveillance was not copied over...
