Judge Recesses Court Until Monday In Casey Murder Trial

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's murder trial was unexpectedly recessed only 45 minutes after it was supposed to start. Saturday marked day 39, including jury selection, of her trial.

Casey Anthony's murder trial on Saturday started with undisclosed, closed-door meetings with Judge Belvin Perry.

Casey walked into the courtroom wearing a lavender, long-sleeved shirt and gray slacks, shortly before 9:00am when court was suppose to resume. George and Cindy Anthony were present in the courtroom.

Casey, along with her attorneys, were gathered in Judge Belvin Perry's chambers. Casey eventually walked back into the courtroom, clearly upset, and began tearing up and dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

After about 45 minutes, Judge Perry walked back into the courtroom and said that due to an unrelated legal matter, court was recessed until 8:30am Monday.

Casey's attorneys have told the judge at her trial that they expect to wrap up in the middle of next week.

Prosecutors say they then need a day or two for rebuttal witnesses. That means jurors could start deliberations as early as a week from now.

There is no way deliberations will start by the weekend. This is ridiculous! Another wasted day.

Casey was in the chambers? And came out crying? What's that all about? Why did Casey go in chambers? Is that normal?

I didn't see the trial this morning until about 9:30. They had all just come back in the courtroom, then JP dismissed for the day.

Hmmm....I've been doing some thinking and I'm going with KC fired Mason today. And that's why Bozo went straight and told the media he himself was qualified to handle this case.

I think KC dumped him because she liked the game playing Bozo was doing and Mason probably wasn't willing to keep playing games with the court.

this would be something the judge would do in chambers without the state and with KC because he has to explain the repercussions of her decision to her.

Lottie, Mason called for this conference, Bozo was already up at the podium waiting for the first witness. However, I thought the state's attys were also present in the conference room. I know KC went in for a while, but not the entire time.

HLN stated after they left courtroom, the entire defense team and their paralegals went to Mason's office, and that JA went to his office. Was he going to depose that Furman guy today?

Kathi Belich reported that both Casey and George were crying, wiping their noses. IMO, it was allergies acting up. Commentors have said the allergen count in Orlando is high this time of year.

At first, it was just the defense attorneys with Casey in tow in there with HHJP for about 15 minutes. Then the DT came out and signaled the prosecutors and they stood talking for a few minutes until HHJP called for both state and defense to come in along with the court recorder. After a little over 20 minutes they all came out and HHJP dismissed the court. Then he and the court recorder went to the jury room. Whatever HHJP had to say to the jury he had to cover his butt with making sure what he said was recorded.

I just wish we could know what it was all about!

Oh sherry, I didn't know the recorder was in the jury room with JP. One of the 'experts' on HLN said she left court immediately after JP made his announcement. The expert said if anything drastic was going on, she would have accompanied JP into the jury room. Glad to get that update, thanks.

Yes, sitemama, right after HHJP dismissed everyone he turned to the CR and said they had business to do and off to the jury room they went. It only took a few minutes and they were out again. Its at the end of part two.

Mark Nejame is saying the only things that JP would cancel court for today when Baez had all those other witnesses out there ready to go would be a plea being offered or problems with one of the defense attorneys.

I don't personally see KC pleading out anything. She's still a TV star! She still gets out of her cell every day to get on TV! She's not going to give that up until she has to.

Someone said George had some papers in his hand reading them and he was crying. I wonder if KC served him with some legal action for abusing her?

I was at a blog and a commentor mentioned that Casey may have wanted Mason to take lead which could be what was brought up Saturday. It makes sense because the rest of the day was called off which means that Baez may have had to help Mason with prep. Then i went to another blog and found this video posted:

Sherry - that was my impression from watching the proceedings also. Mason initiated the sidebar, did all the talking, and also did all the talking a little later in a circle with all attorneys before they went into chambers. He was definitely the lead in whatever was taking place.

The prosecution looked pissed but obliging both at sidebar and as they packed up to leave for the day. We'll see....
