ROCKPORT — A district judge granted a temporary restraining order late Thursday against Aransas County family law Judge William Adams, preventing him from visiting his 10-year-old daughter until further court hearings unless the girl’s mother, Hallie Adams, is present.

The order was issued after an attorney for Hallie Adams filed a motion that included her seven-page affidavit. The document details what she says is a lengthy history of emotional, verbal and physical abuse, complicated by drug and alcohol use by her ex-husband, Judge Adams. It claims he used the substances during his tenure as judge.

CORPUS CHRISTI — The mother and daughter of the Aransas County family law judge whose videotaped beating of his daughter has been viewed more than 6 million times on YouTube were together Wednesday in their longest TV appearance since the video went viral last week.

Hillary Adams and her mother, Hallie Adams, expressed mixed feelings on "Dr. Phil" about the video's release and Hallie Adams explained why she took part in the beating. In the video, Judge William Adams lashes his daughter with a belt at least 17 times, and at one point Hallie Adams grabs the belt away from him, tells her daughter to turn over and delivers one lash to her back side.

I feel sorry for the folks working in the Aransas County Court House. They are not responsible for the actions of Judge William Adams and had nothing to do with the beating of his daughter Hillary Adams.

I guess folks that do not know how the county government is structured and how the courts are structured think it is the fault of the employees at the Aransas County Court House!

Judge William Adams is in an elected position. He has 3 years reamaining on his current judgeship term which expires in 2014. If he is not removed from the bench by the State of Texas Judicial Commission or does not resign, then the registered voters of Aransas County will have the opportunity to vote Judge Adams out of office.

I love visiting Aransas County, specifically Rockport and Aransas Pass. There are a lot of great folks living in Aransas County!

Hang in there! You are not responsible for Judge Adams' beating his daughter or his personal life.

CORPUS CHRISTI — One woman called and didn't say anything — she just broke into a hymn.

"She sang about two or three verses, and she just politely hung up," Linda Garcia said.

The executive assistant in the Aransas County Judge's Office, Garcia, 60, has become the patient ear and the calm voice of the county for hundreds of people who have called to complain, cry, threaten and sing about Judge William Adams.

ROCKPORT — Aransas County authorities, with help from the FBI, are investigating why the county’s website is down amid the fallout from the release of a video showing family law Judge William Adams beating his daughter seven years ago.

“It’s down for reasons unknown,” County Judge Burt Mills said, adding, “We’ve had a lot of hits on our system that are questionable for unknown reasons.”

Mills said officials are aware of a video, claiming to be from the computer hacking group Anonymous, that vaguely threatens action against Adams. The video was posted about six days ago and the county’s website has been down since Tuesday night.

A Killeen attorney, who also is a candidate for district court judge, has filed a suit on behalf of the ex-wife of Aransas County Judge William Adams to limit his custody of their 10-year-old daughter.

The judge gained national notoriety last week after the former couple's adult daughter Hillary Adams posted a seven-year-old video depicting her father beating her.

The YouTube video, which was made in 2004 when Hillary Adams was 16, went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views.

(AP) McALLEN, Texas — A Texas family law judge seen beating his older daughter in a video she posted on YouTube has been placed under a temporary restraining order, and his ex-wife's attorney said Friday it effectively prevents him from visiting his younger daughter.

Under the order issued Thursday by another judge, Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams is forbidden from visiting his 10-year-old daughter without getting permission from the girl's mother, his ex-wife. The order also says Adams can't disparage the woman or drink alcohol within 24 hours of seeing his child.

At about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 I received the following email from Hillary Adams, the daughter of Aransas County court-at-law judge William “Bill” Adams:

“Mr. Probst,

“I haven’t talked to you in years. How have you been?

“I’m sorry to bring such awful news to you like this, but there is a video that has to be seen by as many people as possible. In 2004, my father beat me until it hurt to walk because I used the Internet, and I caught it on video. My mother appears, but deserves zero blame, as she was severely emotionally abused into participating. She cried when I showed her the video. But when I told my father about it? He dismissed it and didn’t regret a thing.


“What a cold, evil man.

“I’m sure you’ve heard about his being an undiagnosed psychopath and were unsure of what to think, since on the outside he is charming and polite. The evidence to prove his abuse was hard to come by until now. Please help me and my mother publish his lies.

“Best wishes,

Hillary”

I attempted to post a comment regarding Judge Adams/Hillary Adams on a thread at Statement Analysis. After reading numerous comments under one of the articles, it appears some of the posters are not aware of the facts or the latest info regarding Judge Adams.

I have scanned the comments and would like to provide the following info:

Texas Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams is in an elected position. His term expires in 3 years. It runs through 2014.

Because of the statue of limitations, Aransas County District Attorney Patrick Flanigan said no charges will be filed against Judge Adams.

Angela Dodge, a U.S. attorney's office spokeswoman from the Corpus Christi, Tx division, said prosecutors determined there was no federal crime depicted on the 2004 video of Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams. The decision came a day after Aransas County District Attorney Patrick Flanigan decided the statute of limitations blocked any state charges.

For your info, Judge Adams is currently under investigation by the State of Texas - State Commission on Judicial Conduct. This commission has the power/authority to remove Judge Adams from the bench.

Also, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services - CPS is investigating Judge William Adams. Judge Adams is the presiding judge in their Aransas County cases.

The local Aransas County authorities have no power to remove Judge Adams from the bench.

If the State Commission on Judicial Conduct does not remove Judge Adams after their investigation, Judge Adams can serve the remaining three years of his judgeship or he can resign.

If he does not resign and seeks re-election in three years, the registered voters of Aransas County, Tx can vote him out of office; not just the registered voters of Rockport, Tx. He is not a city municipal judge.

On 11-3-11, Nancy Grace featured the video on her show. More than once she stated "she is coming after Judge Adams and Lady Justice is coming with her." That is laughable. Nancy Grace has no legal authority in the State of Texas. She should have done her homework before airing on 11-3-11.
The investigation of Judge Adams was well under way by several Texas agencies. Also, she should have consulted a Texas attorney who is knowledgeable in Texas law and the statue of limitations versus an attorney in New York. I found the show disgusting because Nancy Grace tried to put a spin on the facts!

I have monitored this case closely as it unfolded.

I started a thread on Reality Chatter regarding Judge Adams/Hillary Adams. All pertinent articles, videos and most recently a 7 page Affidavit from Hallie Adams, the ex-wife of Judge Adams, are posted.

Although this case does not have the national coverage like it did a few days ago, the local media, i.e., Rockport and especially nearby Corpus Christi, Tx are covering this case closely.

The Houston, Tx media are covering this case when there is a major development such as the recent motion filed with the Affidavit by Hallie Adams.

The seven page Affidavit was attached to the motion filed by Hallie Adams' attorney, Brett Pritchard, a few days ago in the 343rd District Court in Aransas County, Tx.

A district judge granted a temporary restraining order late Thursday (11-10-11) against Aransas County family law Judge William Adams, preventing him from visiting his 10-year-old daughter until further court hearings unless the girl’s mother, Hallie Adams, is present. There are other things in the order also.

The filing by attorney Brett Pritchard, Hallie Adams's attorney from Killeen, Tx, includes a motion seeking to force Judge Adams to undergo testing for illegal drug use. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21, 2011, in Aransas County. The temporary order was signed by Judge Kemper Stephen Williams of the 135th Judicial District in Victoria, Tx.

The 10 year old child is currently staying with relatives in the Killeen, Texas area. Hallie Adams decided it was in the child's best interest and safety to be there versus in Aransas County. A Hearing is pending regarding this situation.

It will be interesting to see if Judge Adams responds to the Affidavit filed by Hallie Adams. There are some serious allegations made by Hallie Adams. I am interested in what his side of the story is!

Business at the Aransas County courthouse has continued this week in spite of a continued, but somewhat slower, barrage of telephone calls, emails, and mailed letters about County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams in relation to a now infamous video on YouTube.

After the nationwide viewing of the video, protests began pouring in to the county, demanding Adams’ removal from office.

Those protests increased after it was announced last week no criminal charges would be filed against Adams because of a statute of limitations.

‘Beating’ video viral; judge responds

No criminal charges will be filed in district court against County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams in relation to a video on YouTube recorded in 2004, but released recently which references the judge “beating his daughter.”

According to a statement from District Attorney Patrick Flanigan, who received and reviewed the submitted evidence regarding Adams and the video incident, he said, “It is clear that no criminal misdemeanor information nor any criminal felony indictment may be presented for any criminal charge that may be applicable as depicted on the subject video.”

The DA said, “Limitations prevent prosecution of any applicable criminal charge on said video.”

Flanigan released the statement, addressed to Rockport Police Department Chief Tim Jayroe, and to The Rockport Pilot.

RPD public information officer Larry Sinclair also forwarded the release adding, “The Rockport Police Department will be in contact with federal authorities to determine if any criminal charges may be filed in federal court.”

The video was uploaded last week on Oct. 27, but didn’t begin receiving national attention until Tuesday, Nov. 1. The video link was sent directly to Rockport Pilot Editor and Publisher Mike Probst from Hillary Adams, the judge’s daughter, late that Tuesday evening.

CORPUS CHRISTI — The young woman who was 16 when she secretly recorded her father striking her with a belt said she hopes to see changes in laws that limit prosecution of past child abuse cases.

Hillary Adams, 23, said that in the days since the video she uploaded went viral on YouTube, garnering more than 6 million views, she struggled with whether her father, Aransas County family law Judge William Adams, should be prosecuted.

Despite her uncertainty, she wants abuse victims to have the option of pursuing criminal cases, she said, because she knows firsthand that children and teenagers don't always have the wherewithal to speak out until they're older, if ever.

"I want to change the statute of limitations to help some other people out of the situations they've been in," Adams said.

ROCKPORT — An attorney for Aransas County family law Judge William Adams Monday filed a motion to block a temporary court order that keeps him from sharing custody of his 10-year-old daughter.

The order came Thursday at the request of his ex-wife, Hallie Adams, who is also the girl's mother. She wants to terminate her ex-husband's access to the child following the release of a video showing him beating their older daughter, Hillary Adams, with a belt.

The video drew public outrage and Hillary and Hallie Adams took to national television to talk about the video as it accumulated more than 6 million views in about one week on YouTube.

ROCKPORT — A district judge will rule by Wednesday whether to make permanent a restraining order that prevents Aransas County family law Judge William Adams from unsupervised visits with his 10-year-old daughter.

Adams and his family members appeared in court Monday for a daylong custody hearing related to the daughter, and Adams testified during the hearing, according to an attorney involved in the case.

The hearing came nearly three weeks after the family’s turmoil went public with a YouTube video showing the judge beating his older daughter with a belt.

But instead of sitting on a bench, he was a party in a custody hearing for his 10-year old daughter.

The filing may be the first to challenge a case involving Adams since a YouTube video of the judge whipping his daughter with a belt went viral Nov. 2.

The video sparked outrage among some of the more than 6 million viewers, and raised questions about whether the family law judge will be able to continue presiding over cases that involve child abuse.

In the filing made Tuesday, attorney David Sibley claims Adams should have recused himself from a custody case in October 2010 because of the involvement of William Dudley. Dudley now is Adams’ personal attorney.

ROCKPORT, Texas -- In a 7-page filing, attorney David Sibley, paints what he calls a disturbing picture of Judge William Adams' behavior on the bench from a case last year.

Sibley was representing a mother in a custody case, where the child was alleging abuse.

"Judge Adams created nonexistent law," Sibley writes, "stating that children are 'fantasizers' and the statements of children amount to 'no evidence'. The child's statements were corroborated in several ways and were believable."

McALLEN, Texas – The Texas Supreme Court suspended a judge Tuesday whose beating of his then-teenage daughter in 2004 was viewed millions of times on the Internet.

Aransas County court-at-law Judge William Adams was suspended immediately with pay pending the outcome of the inquiry started earlier this month by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, according to an order signed Tuesday by the clerk of the state's highest court.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) - A Texas judge whose daughter posted a video online that showed him violently beating her when she was a teenager can no longer see his younger daughter without supervision.

A state judge on Wednesday temporarily ordered that Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams could have only supervised visits with his 10-year-old daughter.

CORPUS CHRISTI — The Texas Supreme Court temporarily suspended Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams with pay Tuesday, about three weeks after a video was posted online showing him whipping his then-teenage daughter with a belt.

Also Wednesday, a district judge issued a temporary order allowing Adams to have supervised visitation with his youngest daughter, following a custody hearing this week.

A judge caught on video beating his daughter with a belt in 2004 was suspended Tuesday by the Texas Supreme Court.


Judge William Adams, who made national headlines after the release of a 2004 video of him beating his then-teenage daughter, has been suspended by the Texas Supreme Court.

Adams, while not admitting guilt or wrongdoing, agreed to the suspension. He will be paid during the suspension.

The judge's lawyer, William Dudley, said his client proposed the suspension motion with input from the state Commission on Judicial Conduct, which is investigating the incident. Adams already was on voluntary leave, Dudley said in a statement to CNN.

The Texas Supreme Court issued an order of suspension late Tuesday, Nov. 22, as recommended by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, for the immediate suspension, with pay, of Aransas County court-at-law Judge William Adams, pending the final disposition of the sworn complaint filed against him.

Suspended with pay????? Why? This is not punishment, he is getting a paid vacation for beating his handicapped daughter!

I sure hope this isn't the end of this sad saga...This is only giving him a much needed rest and time to play golf...

Judge Adams has been suspended until the State of Texas - State Commission on Judicial Conduct can conclude their investigation of Judge Adams.

It has been reported this could take up to several months. SCJC - TX has the authority to remove Judge Adams from the bench if their investigation warrants it.

If not, Judge Adams can resign or be voted out of office in 2014. He has 3 years left in his current elected judgeship. The registered voters of Aransas County, Tx can vote him out in 2014.

I think Judge Adams is done . . . just my opinion!

That's a relief, Ann...I sure hope they find out what a despicable father he was and not the pillar of society that he thought he was...No one should be immune from punishment when it comes to child abuse...

A prominent Texas judge placed on leave while the court investigates the circumstances surrounding a video of him beating his daughter with a belt and cursing at her proposed the suspension himself, his lawyer said.

Judge William Adams and the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct filed a joint motion to temporarily suspend his official duties as presiding judge during the course of an investigation. The Texas Supreme Court approved the motion on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011.

Adams had already taken immediate voluntary leave, upon learning that the video of "a family disciplinary event" had been made public, his lawyer William Dudley of Corpus Christi, Texas, said in a statement today.

"The agreed temporary suspension is neither a fault sanction imposed by the Texas Supreme Court following an adversarial hearing, a finding of fault or wrongdoing by the commission, or admission of fault or wrongdoing by Judge Adams," Dudley said.

CORPUS CHRISTI — Aransas County family law Judge William Adams received nearly $49,000 in pay in almost four months since he stopped hearing cases.

Adams was suspended after the release of a 2004 video showing him striking his then-teenage daughter with a belt. His duties in the County Court-at-Law included determining whether parents were fit to raise their children.

The county must continue to pay Adams while awaiting the results of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct's investigation.

ARANSAS COUNTY — The State Commission on Judicial Conduct on Thursday issued a public warning (SEE THE WARNING) to embattled Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams, meaning it is likely he will return to the bench.

But it’s unlikely to end the debate about whether the judge can be fair and effective in court.

Adams, a family law judge who hears child abuse cases, came under fire in November after his daughter uploaded a secretly recorded YouTube video showing the judge beating her with a belt seven years earlier when she was 16, triggering a firestorm of controversy.

The Judge claimed his daughter SET him and his wife up, his wife later admitted to her participation in the abuse and sought help. The Judge whined his daughter did it for revenge, she was pissed off he wouldn't pay her car insurance on the Mercedes he provided for her.

imo, as adults, we are all responsible for our actions, the video clearly exposed a dysfunctional family and a minor that had been abused for years. It seems there could possibly be MANY qualified candidates that could serve in the capacity of Judge, as opposed to someone that formerly had the opportunity to serve as Judge and clearly shown to be an abuser, THEN, tried to justify the abuse. L O S E R!

I don't care if she *did* SET him up or if she did do it for revenge. I wouldn't even care if she did it to extore millions from him -- that still will never change the fact that he used free will to choose to behave violently in a criminal manner. She didn't say ''HERE! BEAT ME! I DARE YOU!" -- He did it all on his own-- regardless of the circumstances, it doesn't change the fact that he acted out and he acted out criminally. Black and White. Case closed.

Stolat, DITTO and well said. I still cringe when I think of that video and it was incredibly hard to watch.

Anyways, nothing or no one turned him into the abusive parent that he is. As far as I'm concerned he need to accept that he has been exposed as an abuser and rather than expecting to be treated any differently to all the other low lives in society, he should rather find a dark hole somewhere to hide out in.

Typical abuser mentality..It is always someone elses fault, they never take responsibilty for their own actions..

William Adams, who as a family law judge hears child abuse cases, went on paid suspension in November after his daughter uploaded a secretly recorded YouTube video showing the judge whipping her with a belt seven years earlier, when she was 16.

The video depicts the judge and, at one point, the girl’s mother, striking her more than a dozen times while issuing an obscenity-laced tirade and threats of further harm.

The Supreme Court of Texas on Tuesday lifted its suspension of the family court judge seen beating his then-teenage daughter in a 2004 home video that went viral on YouTube last year.

Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams had been on paid suspension since last November, when daughter Hillary uploaded her secret recording. The 7 ½-minute clip drew millions of hits and propelled Hillary Adams and her mother, Hallie Adams, on the national talk show circuit.

ARANSAS COUNTY - The Texas Supreme Court has cleared the way for Aransas County Court-at-Law judge William Adams to return to the bench.

They also say he has not contacted them yet to say when he plans to return.

The judge does not have any cases scheduled until next Wednesday.
