I was reading back through the articles on the red Jetta when I had a light bulb moment. Cardoza made many statements that the red Jetta was caught on video surveillance from residential and business areas and bus stops. What if Sierra was also captured that morning on this residential video surveillance? Maybe in past video she was seen getting in the Jetta?

The association between the red, mid-1990s Jetta Volkswagen and the LaMar case is based on March 16 surveillance footage from residential cameras near the LaMar home, from nearby businesses and from the bus stop Sierra would catch to Sobrato High. Time and again, the red Volkswagen was captured near the LaMar home and other areas of interest, like the fields where Sierra’s cell phone and Juicy bag were found.

“The vehicle was seen more than once as being in the area where Sierra’s mom’s house is and other areas where evidence was found,” Cardoza said.

Well maybe.
Maybe it is simply a red jetta that she was connected to at some point.

Since she was still relatively new there in MH, I would assume that most contacts she would have would be related to school.
MH is very rural, but I do not know what Sobrato HS area is like, meaning if there are shops eateries etc near by where she may have come into contact with a non-school person.

How much time would she have between dismissal and bus departure to put herself in a situation to meet with outsiders?
(She was reported by ML to have normally gotten home around the 4-430pm mark? School out between 240-320pm maybe?, will have to check distance on google for commute.)

A ride over to SObrato HS parking lot or general area during school hours to scan for a red jetta may be interesting, as well as Washington HS lot.

It could have been a red jetta observed and whether or not what was actually observed initially is indeed the car that was apprehended, around end of march perhaps with those characteristics, is not actually known.

We have not seen any real footage nor any LE officer next to that stolen car released by LE as the one apprehended by them and in their possession.

I am interested in this residential video surveillance. Did any of this video capture Sierra alive walking to the bus stop that morning? Was Sierra seen on video leaving the house that morning? If the car was seen "near the Lamar home" was Sierra also seen?

Why would that not be known or public knowledge at this point?

Today is the San Francisco Bay to Breakers Race. I wonder if that has anything to do with the Monterey County Coroner covering for the SF coroner? Definitely makes me wonder if they want to minimize publicity about the body found at the Point until after the big weekend. Just a thought.....

I figured it out. It does make you question why Monterey when the body was found in San Francisco. Even then there are 2 counties before Monterey, San Mateo and Santa Cruz. Maybe even Santa Clara.

Showing my age, but just think of the show "Quincy, M.E." and you know what a medical examiner does!! :) Of course, he interjected more investigative prowess and interest than any real M.E. would, but I like to think that's what a M.E. does. :) My fav show growing up!! Stolat - Thank you. I bookmarked most of the articles concerning the Jetta. I went through them yesterday and I don't recall anything about getting in and out of the Jetta. I will search the articles again using those key words.

I'm really interested in knowing if Sierra was on any of the residential video surveillance maybe walking to school that morning or even mornings before she disappeared. If she is on video, I have no idea why that information would not have been released. I may just be hoping there is video of a healthy live Sierra leaving home that morning.

I have gotten to know them in the last month or so. They are as upset as anyone about Sierra's disappearance. They watched her walk -- or run, as she was often late -- to the bus each morning. They gave her a nickname even, "Nana." Sierra was a part of their daily routine, and when she disappeared, they knew immediately who she was and were devastated by her loss.

LE has not exactly been kind to them throughout this process, I'm sad to say. They are our good neighbors too, and we have welcomed them into our homes and on the neighborhood website. Some of them have even been living there as long as I have.

Glad they got someone, but sad about the murder charge.

Also, one report I read said that LE was doing a press conference at 8am tomorrow morning.

I hope we will find out more then at the press conference. I feel sorry for Sierra's mother and father and all her family. There must have been some pretty damning DNA evidence in that vehicle for the murder charges. I hope the PERP at least tells LE where Sierra is.

In a statement, Cardoza said, "Detectives believe Garcia-Torres is responsible for Sierra LaMar's disappearance."

The suspect attended Central High School in Morgan Hill and does not have a serious criminal history except for a 2009 arrest for resisting arrest, the television station reported. He had worked at a Safeway store on Tennant Avenue in Morgan Hill where he was arrested about 6 p.m.

On May 7, sheriff's investigators released a photograph of a red VW Jetta and asked the public if anyone had seen the car around the time Sierra disappeared on March 16. A day later, authorities acknowledged that they already had the car in custody but were still seeking tips.

Cardoza has said that investigators had focused on the car because of witnesses' descriptions and from viewing surveillance video from homes, businesses and buses in Sierra's neighborhood.

The Jetta was seen in the general area of where Sierra lives near Morgan Hill and where her belongings were found after she vanished, Cardoza said.

Just got finished watching KNBC11. Sheriff Smith said, "We have proabable cause to believe gthat he committed the kidnapping and murder of Sierra Lamar." When asked further if they believe that she is alive, Sheriff Smith said, "The charge is murder." And when pressed further about if she thought Sierra was alive, she said "no" and urged the reporters to wait until tomorrow morning when they will hold the press conference. Sierra's family will be present at the press conference.

Garcia-Torres is the registered owner of the red Jetta and has connections to addresses in both Morgan Hill and San Martin.

I do wonder if this was completely random, or if he knew her in some way.

In any event, my prayers go out to the family.

I'm new to posting here. I've been reading and not joining into the conversation. I'm wondering if the female they found in the water is Sierra and that's why the arrest came down? I have a feeling they suspected it was Garcia-Torres all along but were waiting to arrest him to ensure a conviction. It's harder to convict without a body. It sounds like they were monitoring him night and day.

He looked so arrogant when he came out of the police station on the news video.

Suspect arrested in Sierra LaMar case

"He was arrested around 6 p.m. at the Safeway store where he works at Tennant Ave. in Morgan Hill. Investigators questioned him for several hours and he is being held at the Santa Clara County jail.

"It was about 5:30, I was at work and we just saw a bunch of cops and guns drawn and I couldn't see anyone if they took him away. I just saw the cops, it was just cops and cop cars, it was all really fast," said Bobby Fox, a witness at Safeway.

Over the past week, investigators sorted through tips that come in after last week's episode of "America's Most Wanted" that featured Sierra's case. Some callers reported having seen the red VW Jetta.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said, "He was arrested today because this is how we thought that the arrest should be done and public safety is our number one concern. We don't want anyone else hurt. We don't want any more little girls taken."
