This is another gut-wrenching heartbreak. that little boy didn't kill himself, then burn his little body and bury himself under the porch!!! Kinda like little Caylee didn't duct tape herself and climb in a plastic bag and a laundry bag and get into the woods. WTH, just kill and lawyer up and let them try to prove it...I'm just sick

hmm...good question, not sure. could he be charged under both state and federal law? wondering about mom, if she is spilling the beans now to plea herself out of trouble...she did admit to actually witnessing abuse.

I don't think anyone on any reservation can be charged by the state since Indian Reservations are under Federal Law.

The United States District Court in Bay City, Michigan says Bennett is currently in a pre-trial hearing.

The current charge is assault to a child under the age of 16 involving bodily injury.

Bennett could face more charges this afternoon.

Federal prosecutors, who handle major crimes on Indian reservations, do not want him released on bond, but would not comment when asked if Bennett was being charged with assault as a way of holding him until a more serious charge is brought

as usual Nancy Grace was a day late and a dollar short. the interview with mom was from a few days ago they were still talking about him being "missing".
speaking of mom...what a fool! so obvious she was completely goo-goo ga-ga in love with this POS. she allowed him to completely take over her, her home and her son. she needs to be prosecuted. this needs to stop. she talked about Carnel's "discipline" saying...'we were training him to be a man'. makes me ill.

According to the two-page criminal complaint, Jaimee Chamberlain told the FBI that she saw her son with a bruised and swollen face as well as a cut lip in late May or early June. She said he had been struck by Bennett when she was away from the home.

A few days later, she saw Bennett pick up her son by the neck and drop him before dragging him into a room by his foot, according to the court document.

It wasn't known why Jaimee Chamberlain allowed her son to be in her boyfriend's company if she believed he was abusing the boy. She answered her phone when contacted by The Associated Press but hung up without commenting.

she also blamed her big brother because after all he set her up with him and he wouldn't let baby sister be involved with a bad guy...so she like, totally trusted him (i could puke).

These statistics are startling no matter which study you look at. We could start a whole section with the amount of cases we have where children were killed by a step-parent or a parent's boyfriend or girlfriend. Parents really need to be smarter about who they allow around their children.

Man charged in 'assault' of 4-year-old

Violet Green, who used to live with Bennett, told 24 Hour News 8 as soon as she heard about Carnel, she feared the worst.

Bennett, she said, was in and out of jail for much of his life. She finally kicked him out of her home when she saw his violent side first-hand.

"When he left, he took (my granddaughter's) dog and that when he kill her dog and set it on fire."

Thanks KZ & J4A I hope all readers of this forum look at the statistics and pay close attention to themselves, friends and family for any signs of such behavior. This is a prime example of how these young girls on drugs have no self worth, much less care for their "extra" baggage...just looking for their next high. This is another baby that should have been given to a family that really wanted a child to love and nourish. What a beautiful child....what a worthless piece of shit that could do this to a child...I hope the worst for this baby killer

I believe that they arrested him on the complaint of assault and bodily injury of a minor, and denied him bond, to keep him in custody until they are able to file against him the charges for the heinous murder of Carnel. Hopefully this is what is happening.

This is far from over.

The needed to get custody of this guy- so they got him on a lesser charge to keep him in jail while they are solidifying a case against him.

Apparently Carnel's mother was the only one who was working to support "the family of three", Bennett's job was to look after Carnel while she was working at the Casino. He has a violent past, she witnessed him physically abusing her son and she didn't take any action to stop the abuse, the abuse escalated until it culminated in his death.

She knew that something was definitely wrong when she returned home from work and her son was allegedly missing, "he was acting weird", she found signs that something ominous has taken place while she was gone.

I believe that she should be found liable with permitting the abuse of her son at the hands of her live in boyfriend, and with allowing the abuse to escalate to the point that it did. Her boyfriend's violence against her son resulted in his death, she should share responsibility for what happened to him.

My heart aches for the living hell they have experienced in their so short lives.
I had my first child two weeks after my seventeenth birthday, and yes I was scared but thankfully the Lord guided me and raising my children was the best times of my life.

There needs to be Laws passed holding Mothers responsible

It used to be COMMONSENSE that a Mother has an inherent

Juries today need a Road-map to find commonsense.

IMO, this Jaimee is Guilty of something here.
I think most reasonable people would feel the same.

We need to remember, this is Domestic Violence.

There's only one person who is responsible for what happened to Carnel and I suggest we keep the blame where it should be. Anthony Bennett.

But really, since the grandma had this baby in her care until this past month, why was he given back to the mom when she works nights? Why didn't she take him to grandma's to atleast spend the night once she saw BF abusing him in front of her, and after CC told her that BF punched him and left bruises on his little body. I also feel she should be held responsible to an extent. Sorry, that's just how I feel.

When my daughter died of cancer, when her twins were 5 y/o, my oldest granddaughter took them to raise as her own. Her husband did not want them from the beginning, but when they had their own son, he became very abusive (verbally) to them. I over heard him tell the girl to get out of his f***ing face, when all she did was try to hug him when he returned from work. He was always talking to them like that, and did not like them having any friends come over. I call her my daughter because her father murdered her mom when she was only 13 months old. I told her if she didn't make him stop abusing the twins, I would take them away from her. My daughter finally could not take it any more, and she kicked him out. She has primary custody of their son, and he gets him every other weekend and on Wednesdays for the night.

He is now 7 y/o and the twins are 15, and they are so close. My little man asked me a few weeks ago, 'why doesn't my dad's family like any of my family'. How do you answer a question like that? We have never said anything ugly about any of them to him, but he said they talk about all of us all the time. To me, that is still abuse. This kind of talk should not take place in front of small children.

I agree, Sitemama. Glad your daughter has gotten herself and the children out of that situation. The seem to be better for it and aren't growing up in that cycle.

and more often than not when a child is abused or murdered.
I see what you are saying. We don't know for sure.. Takes me back
to the Horman case.. Terri looks guilty, and if she is, then Kaine SHOULD
have known or at least sensed there was a problem there. Having
lived in a situation where someone hurt my kids, and I NEVER
saw it because he was so sly... Thankfully they were never hurt bad,
but he did hurt them. Still hurt is hurt, and I should have known, or
at least guessed.. but I was clueless. I wasn't even in love with the

I understand what you're saying Calypso, but we do have facts here. Such as the Mother admiting she saw with her own eyes this PSYCHO pick up the 4 year old BY THE NECK!
That SHOULD have been it, right then and there, get the kid
AWAY from the danger.
Combined with the bruises she saw, I mean that is Prima Facia (sp?) evidence of abuse.
She has custody of the child for a MONTH and he ends up dead? There needs to be accountability or these scenes will
play out again and again.

I just want to know what the extent of the abuse was within the family aside from Bennett and Carnel.

What abuse was she receiving from Bennett, if any.

I don't doubt he was abusive and controling with the mother, but we will have to wait for that information.

She was allegedly with him for 7 months prior.

Domestic abuse is a cycle that keep perpetuating itself.

Kids that grow up in that cycle view it as normal and grow up to be adults who continue it in their own families.

This is by NO means an excuse to kill someone or violate the rights of others.

The fact that a woman stays with a man who hurts their child like that tells you there's something wrong with that woman.

Do we have factual information on who had actual custody of Carnel?
If the mother, when did she loose custody and to whom.? When did she regain custody?
Did the Grandmother have any indications that Carnel was in danger?
The Mother indicates after the fact, that there were signs of abuse. Has she ever explained what prevented her from taking action?

i'm only aware of Carnel being taken away as an infant, then mom got treatment for drugs and she was given back custody. not sure of any recent custody or CPS issues...anyone have a link?
also wonder if anyone else saw bruises on Carnel and what excuse mom gave then. was he in preschool?
