Riverside County sheriff’s investigators have confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a 30-year-old Riverside woman who has been missing for two weeks are suspicious.

Her family is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts or the arrest of those responsible for her disappearance.

Detectives have released few details about the case of Karly McKenna Elliott, or why it’s considered suspicious, saying it could jeopardize the case.

Elliott’s uncle, Corona resident Mark Camarillo, a retired detective, has launched a search with relatives passing out more than 400 flyers and questioning people in north Norco, Mira Loma and Jurupa Valley, where she might have been last seen.

Camarillo and the family saw her leave their house around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 by herself in her red PT Cruiser. They last spoke to her at 7 p.m. that day.

On October 26th shortly after 3:00 p.m., deputies responded to a call of a missing person in the 6300 block of Frank Avenue in Jurupa Valley.

The investigation revealed that Karly McKenna Eliott, 30, had not been seen by family members for three to four days.

Karly is described as a white female adult, 5′-9″ tall, 150 pounds, blonde hair, and green eyes.

The search for Karly is continuing and anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective R. Pluimer, at the Jurupa Valley Station, at 951-955-2600.

Law enforcement officials are calling the case of missing Jurupa Valley woman “suspicious,” it was reported today.

Karly McKenna Elliott was last seen in the company of 32-year-old Jurupa Valley resident Alejandro Lopez before her disappearance, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

“During the investigation, it was determined that a struggle had ensued inside of the residence where the missing person was last seen. The Central Homicide Unit was contacted and assumed the investigation,” the report said.

Evidence of a struggle and new investigators further the case of a missing Jurupa Valley woman

There was evidence of a struggle inside a residence where a Jurupa Valley woman missing since late October was last seen, and Riverside County sheriff’s officials have now identified the person-of-interest Karly McKenna Elliott was last seen with, according to a statement.

Deputies have not said whether the man they named, Alejandro Lopez, 32, of Jurupa Valley, had any connection to the residence where the struggle took place.

The sheriff’s Central Homicide division has taken over the Elliott investigation, however, indicating Elliott may have been a victim of foul play.

“This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time,” the statement said.

Karly McKenna Elliott disappeared in October 2012, reported missing by her family, but a separate parallel investigation at her new boyfriend’s home in Jurupa Valley turned up more than just an indoor marijuana grow: blood spatters around the property.

The boyfriend, Alejandro Lopez, 34, was sentenced Friday to more than 57 years in state prison after a jury on Oct. 1 convicted him of murder in her shooting death and other charges.

A family vacationing from Maine found some of Elliott’s skeletal remains in March 2013 off Gilman Springs Road east of Moreno Valley when they stopped for a picnic. Rains and coyotes had uncovered them from a shallow grave, according to court records.

Experts found blood and DNA evidence that linked Lopez to the crime. Lopez denied knowing Elliott, but surveillance video from a grocery store showed Elliott and Lopez shopping together a few hours before she went missing, according to court documents.

Before imposing sentence, Judge David Gunn heard tearful comments from Elliott’s grandfather and Lopez’s father and sister, the latter offering condolences to the Elliott family and friends sitting on the opposite side of the courtroom.

Elliott, 30, was last seen by her family about 11 p.m. Oct. 23, 2012, alone in her red PT Cruiser. They reported her missing three days afterward and said later that the car was found Oct. 28 near a golf course in Mira Loma.

The car had been a gift from her grandparents several years earlier, her grandfather, Douglas Elliott, said in court. “I prayed every night for the good Lord to bring her home,” he said of the months she went missing. “She came home ... a box of bones. He (Lopez) had deposited her like trash in the desert in a coyote den.”

The elder Elliott recounted what he heard in court of a “brutal” attack that included skull and facial fractures. He said Lopez had a “total disregard for the law” by virtue of a previous felony drug conviction, possession of weapons and the marijuana grow.

He said he and his wife “were like second parents,” and read from a high school essay that the victim wrote about escaping to her grandparents’ home – swinging in a tree swing her grandfather made for her and eating chicken soup her grandmother made from scratch.

It was hard for Lopez’s family to hear the accusations at trial, said his father, Felipe Lopez, who described his son as a very loving man.

“We will always love you. May Karly rest in peace,” Lopez’s father, Felipe Lopez, said to the victim’s family. To his son, he said, “Love you Alex, be strong.”

Deputy District Attorney Michael Kersse said because of a past conviction, “He should not have (had) a weapon in the first place.”

Lopez had a semi-automatic pistol, found with blood on it linked to the crime, and an illegal machine gun.

The judge described the marijuana grow and hash oil or honey oil manufacturing operation as “sophisticated.”

In addition to murder, the jury found Lopez guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, manufacturing a controlled substance and cultivating marijuana, and enhancements that extend his sentence in state prison, including use and discharge of a firearm.
