ROSCOE — A woman missing since Monday night still has not been found.

Katrina Smith, 30, of Machesney Park, was reported missing by her husband Tuesday night to the Roscoe Police Department.

UPDATE: During the search conducted by family and friends on October 26, papers towels were recovered with a substance believed to be blood on them. These items were recovered in a field between Obispo and Ralston Rd.

UPDATE: A purse belonging to the Machesney Park woman who vanished earlier this week, was found near her abandoned car. A search party is now looking for more clues at a Schoonmaker Park.

Miraynda Castro is helping lead a search party, filled with faces she's never seen. Dozens of people have come to Schoonmaker Park to help find her sister whose been missing for four days.

“If you have a sister, you have this bond that you can't explain and I guess I just really miss her and I can't accept she's not here, I just want her back,” said Castro.

More than two dozen people are searching the area off Ralston Road, where 30 year-old Katrina Smith's car was found abandoned Tuesday night. Her purse and cell-phone were located days later in a wooded area nearby. Detectives say she was last seen leaving her husband's home, after shopping on 173 at about 9 p.m. Monday.

MACHESNEY PARK — Nearly 100 people walked tree lines along Schoonmaker Park and scoured the banks of the Rock River on Friday in search of a missing Machesney Park woman.

Katrina Smith, 30, was last seen Monday night.

Friday, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro revealed Smith’s purse was recovered Wednesday, a short distance from where her blue 2012 four-door Chevrolet Cruze was found Tuesday night at Obispo Road and Ventura Boulevard. Her cell phone was recovered Thursday in the 700 block of Ralston Road.

Iasparro said it was volunteers who found bloody paper towels Thursday in the vicinity of the vehicle. Authorities are waiting lab results to determine if the blood belonged to Smith.

Katrina Smith: Missing from Illinois

UPDATE: 10/26/12 - Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police today revealed that the woman’s purse, cell phone and a bloody towel were found in the same area as her abandoned new car. Her cell phone was recovered in the 700 block of Ralston Road on Thursday.

Katrina A. Smith, 30, from Machesney Park, Ill. was reported missing by her husband on Tuesday, October 23. Her car was located later that evening, unoccupied, at the intersection of Obispo and Ventura in Machesney Park.

Smith, who worked in the human resources department at Camryn Company in Belvidere, went shopping Monday night, and then was reportedly last seen that night by her husband when she left their home to run an additional errand around 9 p.m.

ROSCOE — The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 30-year-old woman missing since Monday night.

“At this point, it is unknown if Mrs. Smith left on her own or if she is the victim of foul play,” Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said.

“The concern is the car was found abandoned, and it’s a brand new car. We’re just trying to seek information.”

Search Crew Finds "Blood Soaked" Paper Towels in Search For Katrina Smith

The items were discovered not too far from where her car was abandoned. They called police when they noticed her blue Chevy Cruze parked off the road in a ditch near the intersection of Ventura Blvd. and Obispo.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's department says they're not treating the case as a criminal investigation, but they haven't ruled it out.

Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro says "we're not ruling foul play out .We just don't know. What's suspicious number one is that you have a thirty year old lady who's missing who had a vehicle that was left abandoned under suspicious circumstances.

Police release new details as search for missing 30-year-old Machesney Park woman continues

Police have released more details in the case of missing 30-year-old Machesney Park resident Katrina A. Smith.

Smith was reported missing Tuesday, Oct. 23, by her husband. She was last seen at around 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, leaving her Machesney Park residence to run an errand.

Smith worked in the Human Resources Department at Camryn Company in Belvidere, Ill. She is married and her residence is on Tetterhall Lane in Machesney Park. However, she has recently been staying in Roscoe, Ill. She has no children, but does have family in the area.

Detectives have been able to determine Smith was shopping Monday night, Oct. 22, between 7 and 8 p.m. at department stores in the area of North Second Street and Illinois Route 173 in Machesney Park. She then reportedly returned to her residence in Machesney Park, and left around 9 p.m. to run additional errands.

Volunteers Take to the Water as they Search for a Missing Machesney Park Woman

After finding paper towels covered in what they believed to be blood, family members decided to search the park once more. MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- It's been five days since Katrina Smith was last seen. She went out shopping late Monday night and never returned home. Family members and police have been searching for her over the last few days and today they turned their search to the Rock River.

More than a dozen local fire departments were called to the area of Ventura Boulevard near Schoonmaker Park in Machesney Park. Boats with new sonar equipment were sent out looking for Smith.

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Detectives are working into the weekend to help find a local woman who went missing nearly one week ago.

Her brother took charge of the search efforts on Sunday after flying in from Oklahoma on Saturday night.

“It definitely hurts inside right now that I don’t know where my sister is at but being in the military for 18 years, I know right now I need to be the leader of the family and focus on helping directing the efforts of these people to the appropriate areas,” says Chad Kaltved.

The Winnebago County Sherriff’s Department had a boat on the river on Sunday searching the shoreline but found no sign of Smith.

She was last seen by her husband, Todd C. Smith, about a week ago when she left their Tetterhall Lane home on an errand. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police are treating the case as a missing person investigation but the nature of her disappearance is suspicious, Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said.

“People are calling with thoughts and suspicions, bits and pieces of information that is relevant,” Iasparro said this morning. “When something like this happens, people come together and if there is something good that comes out of bad incidents, it’s that it shows people are concerned for one another.”

The initial missing person report filed on Tuesday by Todd Smith was made in Roscoe. Katrina Smith had been staying at friend’s condominium in Roscoe. She was separated from her husband, but had been at their home in Machesney Park at least twice the day before she was reported missing.

Iasparro could not comment on whether the husband is being investigated as a potential suspect. He said the husband has been assisting in the search along with other members of Katrina Smith’s family.

Hi Cubs Fan,

I'm growing impatient with the pace of the investigation into Katrina's disappearance, I think the Winnebago Police Department should ask for assistance from the State Police and the FBI. I also think that they should use a professional diving team to search the Rock River. They should also appeal to the media to keep the case in the news.

The police has neither denied nor confirmed if they are investigating her husband, I haven't heard/read anything about a search warrant being served to search his house and its surroundings.

I'm glad you are following this case, I haven't "seen" you here since the Sandusky trial.

I'm looking forward to reading your comments and discussing this case.

River search conducted for Katrina Smith

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) - The search continues for missing 30-year-old Machesney Park resident Katrina Smith.

Smith's wallet was also found on Thursday, on a Rockford street. The wallet was turned in to a local business as found property by a citizen. Rockford Police were notified once it was determined it was Smith's wallet. It is currently unknown if anything was missing from her wallet.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's been exactly one week since a Machesney Park woman vanished.

“It's been horrible, I just want her to come home.”

One week after police say 30-year-old Katrina Smith said she was going to run some errands, her husband says he's still waiting for his wife to come home.

"She said I will be back later and that was the last we had heard of her," said Katrina Smith’s husband.

Smith is speaking out for the first time since he reported his wife missing.

Smith says he and Katrina didn't live in separate homes, like police reported, but that his wife was house sitting in Roscoe. He says the two have been happily married for seven years and that he is devastated by her disappearance.

"I just want her to call or come home or let us know she's safe,” Smith said.

Shocking info about missing Machesney Park woman's husband

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) - Disturbing information is uncovered about the husband of a missing Machesney Park woman. Court records show he burned down his family's home two decades ago while they were inside it.

Todd C. Smith is the husband to Katrina Smith. She was last seen October 22, 2012 when she stopped by her house in Machesney Park. According to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department she had been living in separate residence in Roscoe. Todd Smith reported to police she left around 9 p.m. and that was the last time he saw her. He reported her missing the next day.

In 1985 Todd Smith, who used to go by the name Todd Raprager was convicted of arson. Court records show he set fire to the house with his parents and brother in it. The home was destroyed. No one was hurt in the fire.

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) - Right now investigators are searching the home of Todd and Katrina Smith.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department announced it obtained a search warrant for 8329 Tetterhall Lane in Machesney Park.

Katrina Smith disappeared a week ago. Todd Smith reported her missing, and told officers that she left around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, to run errands and never returned.

MACHESNEY PARK — Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police investigators today executed a search warrant at the Smith residence on Tetterhall Lane in hopes of uncovering evidence about the whereabouts of a 30-year-old Machesney Park woman missing for more than a week.

Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said police have not obtained an arrest warrant and could not say what detectives are looking for in the home. Police began the search mid-morning of the residence Katrina Smith shared with her husband, Todd Smith, 45.

“I can’t go into specifics,” Iasparro said about the search. “It’s a further step into the investigation of her disappearance.”

“At first we were really thinking of her rescue, but right now we're really trying to find the body. It's hard, you know right now I think everybody's thinking a little bit more dark you know, something must have happened to her,” said one relative, Laura Linley.

Rockford Police flew high above the Rock River looking for clues into the disappearance of Katrina Smith

Rockford Police combed the Rock River today looking for clues into the disappearance of Katrina Smith. Around noon police were up in their helicopter, AIR ONE, starting their search near the dam in downtown Rockford. After hours in the air, flying north along the river, police were unable to uncover any new evidence.

"I've been searching since Thursday morning when I flew in from O'Hare [Airport]." -explains Kaltved.

Kaltved serves with the U.S. Army's Special Operations Command. He was training in Oklahoma when he got the news that Katrina was missing. Kaltved's been calling on those military skills.

"It's helpful in a lot ways. I can look at it tactically and look at an area and understand ins and outs, likely avenues of approach and boundaries. On the outside I can kind of hold everything inside and stay strong for the family, be the leader of the family, and be able to drive on and stay motivated everyday."

Kaltved says he doesn't believe Katrina ran away. According to him, she was supposed to be interviewed for a new job the day she was reported missing.

Smith is married and while her residence is on Tetterhall Lane in Machesney Park, she recently has been staying in Roscoe, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. She worked at Camryn Company in Belvidere, Ill., where she was employed in the human resource department.

In TV media reports, Smith’s husband said his wife was house sitting in Roscoe, but that they were happily married.

However, Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro said Smith was separated from her husband and living in another location in Roscoe.

“I can’t make any comments about what the husband is saying,” he said.

Iasparro said the police are following a lot of information gathered.

MACHESNEY PARK — The public is invited to attend a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schoonmaker Park in support of the family of Katrina Smith.

The 30-year-old Machesney Park woman has been missing since Oct. 22.

“We’re just trying to get as many people out there as possible to show support for us,” said Smith’s brother, Chad Kaltved, 38, a member of the U.S. Army’s special operations who is on leave and is heading up community search efforts.

Kaltved said his family is working with Crime Stoppers to offer a cash reward, and he remains in daily contact with the police.

Supporters use the power of the word as motivation in the search for missing Machesney Park woman Katrina Smith. Thursday night, dozens of people gathered at a prayer vigil in her honor.

Stories, prayers, and tears. People shared all of those at Katrina Smith's vigil. She disappeared last Tuesday and hasn't been seen since. Smith's half-brother Chad Kaltved, whose military background helps him focus on the search, spoke at the gathering. Even he couldn't help but let emotions take over.

Search for Katrina Smith Continues

The brother of a missing Machesney Park woman says he will not give up until Katrina Smith is found.

After a nearly two week search, friends and family members are back on the hunt once again. Volunteers are walking in groups through Camp Winnebago. Smith's brother said the search party will start working its way through other parks in the Stateline. You may remember Smith's car and purse were found last month in Machesney Park. Her wallet was picked up in Rockford. Family members said they are trying not to lose hope.

Missing Woman Katrina Smith still not located

Katrina Smith of Machesney Park has still not been located. Search crews gathered this morning in Schoonmaker Park to continue looking for any clues that could lead to her whereabouts.

Police have not released any new details in this missing person case.

Family of Missing Machesney Park Woman Need Donations

Machesney Park - The family of missing 30 year-old Katrina Smith needs your help to keep search efforts going.

A fundraiser will be held Thursday at Casey's Pub starting at 5:30pm. Pizza and pasta will be served. The cost is $10/person to get in.

If you can't make it, the "Katrina Smith Fund" has already been established at Riverside Community Bank. Donations can be made at any Riverside branch.

The Search For Katrina Smith Continues

ROCKFORD - Hundreds of volunteers have joined together during the past 14 days. Searching parks and industrial areas, and following up on tips and advice Katrina Smith's family members have received from the community.

"It may not seem like a lot to go off of, but it's better than nothing," said Katrina Smith's brother Chad Kaltved.

"It's all we can do, we're not the investigators, we're just looking for Katrina," said Kaltved.

Investigators have also been working tireless on the case. There are currently 8 detectives focused on finding what happened to Katrina Smith after she was last seen around 9 at night leaving her home in Machesney Park two weeks ago.

Kaltved says 100 people joined in the search on Saturday and Sunday. He says they found duct tape, gloves, paper towels, and a shovel in Rock Cut State Park.

They've turned everything over to police, but can't say if their findings are related in any way to Katrina's disappearance

KATRINA SMITH UPDATE FROM DETECTIVES: "At this point we are unable to provide any further information concerning the investigation of the case. We don't have the answers concerning kidnapping or abduction, and anything put out would be speculation."

"The sheriff's department says Smith was reportedly last seen by her husband late Monday night when she left to run an errand. It is currently unknown whether Smith left on her own or is the victim of foul play."

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- The search for missing Machesney Park woman Katrina Smith has been non-stop for the last two weeks and now her family is enlisting the help of local hunters.

Katrina's family says they haven't been able to search Rock Cut State Park as thoroughly as they'd like, mostly because it's such a big area. So when the park is closed for deer and turkey hunting this weekend, they're making sure every hunter gets a flyer with her picture on it.

Today a couple of dozen people searched the southwest corner of the Park they found a woman's Jacket, but there's no way to know if it's Katrina’s until police send it for testing......
