LA PLATA COUNTY - Dylan Redwine, 13, has been missing since Monday. Volunteers have been going door-to-door, searching for Dylan.

Dylan's father, Mark, reported him missing. Dylan was staying at his father's home in Vallecito - about 22 miles northeast of Durango - since Sunday as part of a court-ordered Thanksgiving holiday visitation. Mark said Dylan was at his house on County Road 500 when he left to do some errands around 7:30 a.m. Monday. Mark said Dylan was gone when he returned around 11:30 a.m.

"We have not ruled out any possibility" Dan Bender, Public Information Officer for La Plata Sheriff's Office, said. "This is the fifth day Dylan has been missing with few clues to work from. We have to consider everything from foul play to a runaway. We hope the broadened exposure to the public through the news media, the work of our investigators, and the national reach offered by the FBI and National Center For Missing and Exploited Children will result in a positive conclusion with Dylan reunited with his family."

DURANGO - Volunteers in southwestern Colorado spent part of their Thanksgiving searching for a 13-year-old boy who went missing while visiting his father.

Sixty people looked for Dylan Redwine around Vallecito Reservoir and Forest Lakes on Thursday. They also passed out fliers and knocked on doors seeking clues about his whereabouts.

Dylan was last seen at 7:30 a.m. on Monday in his father's house. Dylan was gone when his dad got back to the house around 11:30 a.m. A resident said they saw Dylan walking along County Road 501 in Vallecito Monday afternoon with another boy around his age. The resident did not know the boy was missing until Tuesday.

"The Sheriff's Office is not ruling out the possibility of an abduction but are also exploring the possibility that Dylan may be a runaway," the La Plata County Sheriff's Office said. "Some family members indicated Dylan may not have been in favor of the court-ordered visit this week. Dylan lived and attended school for years in the area and is known by many people."

La Plata County officials and search parties scoured the Vallecito Valley all day today and distributed posters in the Bayfield and Vallecito area in the search for a 13 year-old male who disappeared from his home north of Vallecito Lake Monday morning. Dylan Redwine is 5 feet tall, 105 lbs. with medium-length blonde hair and blue eyes. Dylan was reported missing between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Monday from his father’s house in the Vallecito area. It is unknown what clothing he was wearing but may have been carrying a backpack.

Dylan’s mom and other family members have arrived in La Plata County from Colorado Springs to join the search. Officials have not ruled anything out, including the possibility of a run-away.

DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) - There is a massive search underway for a missing boy in southwestern Colorado.

Dylan Redwine, 13, was last seen Monday morning at his father's home near Vallecito northeast of Durango.

Investigators, a K-9 team, search and rescue and volunteers are now combing the area.

The boy's mother and father had been involved in a custody dispute, and the boy was visiting his father as part of a court order.

Police aren't sure if Dylan was upset and ran away or there were other factors in his disappearance. They say they aren't ruling anything out at this point.

Dylan, who lives with his mother in Colorado Springs, arrived at his father’s house Sunday after 6th Judicial District Judge David Dickinson issued a court order granting his father visitation rights during the Thanksgiving holiday, Bender said.

La Plata County Sheriff’s investigators, in cooperation with the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, continued their efforts Friday to locate 13-year-old Dylan Redwine.

The boy was reported missing Monday afternoon by his father, Mark Redwine.

Dylan was staying at his father’s house in Vallecito, about 22 miles northeast of Durango since Sunday as part of a court ordered Thanksgiving holiday visitation.

Dylan and his mother Eliane and brother Cory moved to Colorado Springs last summer.

On Friday, the sheriff's office released new details about what clothes Redwine may have been wearing when he disappeared.

The La Plata County Sheriff says he may have been wearing a blue and white Duke Blue Devils baseball cap, a black Nike t-shirt, black basketball shorts and black Jordan shoes.

Thirteen year old Dylan Redwine isn’t a runaway, his mother Elaine Redwine insisted late Friday afternoon, Nov. 23.

She said Dylan’s father Mark Redwine said he last saw his son at around 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, noticed he wasn’t around at around 11 a.m., and reported him missing at around 4:30 p.m. that day.

Mark Redwine lives at the north end of County Road 500 at Vallecito.
“I don’t believe he ran away,” Elaine Redwine said, and he isn’t evading people searching for him. “He isn’t just out there roaming the area. I believe he is being held (against his will) or is unable to contact us.”

A 13-year-old boy has been missing from his Colorado home for six days as police struggle with a lack of clues amid his mother's fears that he 'wouldn't have left willingly.'

Dylan Redwine, of Colorado Springs, was visiting his father in Vallecito for Thanksgiving break under the terms of a court order when he vanished from the home, the father has told police.

His mother says Dylan was unhappy about having to make the trip, but that he would not have run away from home.

Dylan was picked up Sunday by his father at Durango-La Plata County Airport, his mother said on Friday.

Dylan announced his arrival in a text message and ended it with an emoticon expressing a scowl, she said.

About 200 volunteers and law enforcement officials from agencies including the FBI, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and K9 search-and-rescue crews continue to go door-to-door and comb rugged hills near Vallecito Lake in the search for 13-year-old Dylan Redwine, missing since Monday.

Residents are canvassing areas to the south of Vallecito, including Bayfield, which is where Dylan was known to hang out before moving to Colorado Springs this summer.

Vallecito is about 22 miles northeast of Durango.

A helicopter from San Juan County is also conducting aerial searches, but investigators still have very few leads to work with after nearly a week of intense searching in the area.

Volunteers spent time Saturday going door-to-door and handing out flyers in the Bayfield area where Dylan spent much of his time before moving to Colorado Springs.

Saturday's search included members of La Plata Search & Rescue, three search dogs, the La Plata Mounted Patrol, and a helicopter. The searches will resume Sunday.

Members of La Plata County Search and Rescue continued to search the Vallecito Lake area Sunday. According to Dan Bender with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, two search and rescue K-9s alerted officials of unidentified scent sources at Vallecito Lake Saturday and Sunday morning.

Divers from New Mexico State Police also prepared to search the south end of the lake Sunday, according to Bender.

Officials will continue to scour the Vallecito area, including miles of USFS Middle Mountain Road. Bender said in a news release that scenarios ranging from abduction to runaway are being examined.

VALLECITO – A dive team from New Mexico State Police searched near the dam at Vallecito Reservoir on Sunday for missing teenager Dylan Redwine. The boy was first reported missing from his father’s home at Vallecito on Nov. 19.

At the same time, authorities are looking to talk to two boys who were spotted by a female postal worker northbound about 2 p.m. Nov. 19, in the 18000 block of County Road 501, at the Vallecito Lake Country Market, according to La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender.

The New Mexico State Patrol divers searched an area targeted by trained cadaver dogs from La Plata Search and Rescue. On Saturday, the dogs had repeatedly “hit” on several spots near the dam while aboard watercraft.

Temporary buoys were placed in the spots and the dive team searched in about 40 feet of cold water. No body had been found as of about 3 p.m. Sunday.

The dogs are trained to distinguish between human remains and animal remains, according to handlers Rae Dreves and Katie Steelman, both of Durango. Their dogs are Selah and Darc, respectively.

Mark Redwine, who lives about 22 miles north of Durango, told investigators that he left the home early Monday morning to run some errands. When he returned four hours later, he said Dylan was gone.

Redwine said Sunday that he hasn't been able to find the boy's fishing rod.

"I question why it has taken this long to start scouring the lake, because from day one they have known it is likely he had a fishing pole with him," Redwine, 52, said.

Information he received from the boy's friends suggests that he was hitchhiking when he disappeared, Redwine said. "It sounds to me like he's not even in the area."

He said is concerned that a stranger could have picked the teen up and abducted him.

Within the next hour the New Mexico dive team is expected to return to Vallecito dam. Before they enter the water, they're going to use a high powered sonar gun to try and locate any large objects in the designated dive area. That will allow them to focus their energy and time in those locations. Problem is, the divers can only stay under for 25 minutes before they have to come up and stay out of water for several hours. I'll have more updates in the next hour or so.

I feel terribly about the heart wrenching experience his family is going through, I think about Dylan and I wonder what happened to him, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are very puzzling to say the least. It is sad to see that the police and the other agencies involved with the investigation are now searching for a body. This doesn't look good at all. I'm still holding on to a glimmer of hope; I hope a miracle happen and this kid is found alive.

This is the general feeling most have at the other site as well. My problem is why wasn't there any activity from Dylan's phone after 8 pm and why did he change his plans with his friends at the last minute from meeting up that night to meeting up the next morning? Dylan was there for the Thanksgiving holiday but went missing on the first day there. One or two articles out there had stated what you did but they corrected it. It is still very Hinky to me that he goes missing within 24 hours of being there.

‘I’m running out of prayers,’ missing boy’s mother says

VALLECITO – The frustration of a mother increased Monday – the eighth day of searches that turned up no trace of her missing 13-year-old son.

“I’m running out of prayers,” Elaine Redwine said as she watched a law enforcement boat equipped with sonar trace patterns on the reservoir near the dam. “The longer this goes on, the more helpless we feel.”

Contacted Monday at his home north of the reservoir, Mark Redwine declined to discuss the search for Dylan.

“I know they’re looking for my son, but I’d prefer not to say anything,” Redwine said at the door of his house. “I prefer to let the investigators do their work.”

“Absent any clues, we owe it to Dylan to consider all possibilities,” Bender said. “We will continue to do so.”

None of Dylan’s belongings that could carry his scent were available in the first days of the investigation. But the family had articles of the boy’s clothing delivered on the weekend.

“We have the clothes,” Bender said Monday. “We don’t need them here (at the reservoir), but can use them later.”

I' m not surprised by the statements that she made to ABC News, I find rather odd that Dylan went missing during a court appointed visit to his father less than 24 hours after he arrived.

Dylan's father hasn't made a public plea for his safe return, he hasn't talk to reporters, and he is avoiding contact with Dylan's mother and with his brother.

The only things that I have heard (read) from him are the statements he made to the police about Dylan's disappearance that were reported by the media. He has been conspicuously absent from the public eye.

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. — We’ve received word that there will be no search today for missing 13-year-old Dylan Redwine. But the investigation continues.

Regardless of fault, the heartbreak shown by Elaine is palpable.

“He was just 13, learning so many things,” she said in an interview with the Durango Herald. “He had just moved into an environment which he really loved.”

The search was called off Tuesday after specially-trained dogs and sonar haven’t been able to find any clues as to where Dylan could be.

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. - No active searches for missing Colorado teen Dylan Redwine are planned for Tuesday, after sonar sweep of Vallecito Lake found no new clues.

"I think somebody knows where he is. I don't know if somebody's hiding him or if somebody's already done something horrible to him," Elaine Redwine told ABC News.

"The panic is just, you know, Where is he? Is he hurt? Was he able to have turkey at Thanksgiving? You know, just, all the things you want for your children. And the panic sets in because I can't do anything," the mother added.

Elaine Redwine also questions why the boy's father, Mark Redwine, had no clothing to offer search teams and K-9 units.

Other family members have hinted that Mark could be violent.

Feds, police establish task force

Here is the latest from the sheriff's office, as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday:

On Monday, the “Dylan Redwine Task Force” was created to manage the investigation and efforts to locate Dylan Redwine, a 13-year old boy who has been missing since Monday, Nov. 19.

This Task Force is comprised of members from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Durango Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Other agencies in the area are also assisting with the search.

Within the Task Force are two crime analysts: one from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and one from the FBI. These analysts are taking all the information coming into the Task Force and putting that information into computer programs. These computer programs allow the analysts to search information in different ways to identify any additional leads. The Sheriff’s Office has received hundreds of tips.

Friends of Elaine Redwine and her sons are organizing a community prayer and caring vigil at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Park in Bayfield, on U.S. Highway 160B. Everyone is welcome. An account has been set up Wells Fargo Bank under Find Dylan Redwine. Donations can be made at any branch, including Ignacio, Durango and Pagosa Springs, and will pay for search efforts.

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – Authorities went door-to-door Tuesday looking for clues into the whereabouts of a 13-year-old boy who disappeared while visiting his father in southwestern Colorado.

Durango police Lt. Ray Shupe said they’re asking residents if they’ve seen anything suspicious around the time that Dylan Redwine disappeared last week.
