It seems like the police search was concentrated on one particular area, it is possible that they were acting on a tip. This doesn't look good at all.

Police: Body found, but search for missing Colorado girl continues
Police in Colorado have not confirmed the age or gender of a body they recovered from a rural area not far from the home of missing 10-year old girl Jessica Ridgeway. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.
By NBC News staff and wire reports
Police searching for missing Colorado schoolgirl Jessica Ridgeway found a body late Wednesday near the spot where she vanished, but at a brief press conference Thursday they said they were continuing to hunt for the 10-year-old.
The body was removed from Pattridge Park in Arvada -- an area dotted with abandoned coal mines -- by Westminster Police just before 9 p.m. Wednesday (11 p.m. ET).

It's so strange that they found her back pack 6 miles to the north and now a body a few miles to the south. It would seem like a tip because they were last searching the open areas where her back pack was discovered. Hopefully area CCTV will show the same car/truck in both or possably in all three areas. So scary. I hate that there are mornings when my girls have to walk to school.

Jessica Ridgeway Search: FBI Releases Behavioral Profile of Possible Suspect
By ANTHONY CASTELLANO
Oct. 12, 2012
What began as a desperate search in Colorado for 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway has now turned into the hunt for a possible suspect with the release of a behavioral profile of the killer.
Police believe that the body found this week in Arvada, Colo., seven miles from where she disappeared is Jessica's.
(VIDEO)
The suspect is likely male and might have recently missed work or suddenly left town, according to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The suspect might have already changed his appearance and gotten rid of his car.
"It could be your boss, it could be your friend and, ultimately, it could be your family member," FBI spokesman David Joly said.

I am heartsick and devastated for this beautiful 5th grader. It's like Zahra all over again.
I fear that her head is missing, and that's why the DNA identification was necessary, instead of something like dental records.
Sick.. I'm just sick. And so filled with sadness. Bad enough she was abducted and murdered. To dismember this beautiful child.... Words fail me. How does a mother ever find peace or comfort with this ending? My prayers are for Jessica's mother. And father, and friends. And LE, so they find the monster who did this.

Community Collectively Mourns For Jessica Ridgeway
October 13, 2012 7:00 PM
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) – Heartbreak, shock, anger and fear — all emotions many in the community feel after the emotional week.
Jessica Ridgeway’s disappearance touched many people, most who never met her. The community gathered Friday night at a Chelsea Park, which has temporarily been named Jessica Park, where Jessica would meet her friends and walk to school every day.
Purple ribbons line almost every main road in Westminster for Jessica.

About 100 investigators from a dozen local, state and federal agencies are working through the weekend, checking leads that may identify who killed 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
The law enforcement team includes FBI profilers, U.S. Marshals Service agents, CBI crime scene analysts and Westminster detectives, who are following leads and interviewing registered sex offenders, said Trevor Materasso, Westminster police spokesman.
A team of eight people fielded every imaginable type of tip Saturday, including advice about where to search for evidence and who should be investigated. There were even tips from people claiming to be psychic, Materasso said.
The tips were prioritized, but each one will eventually be checked,

A public memorial service for Jessica Ridgeway will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada at 7:00 p.m..
The church, at 62nd and Ward, has "a big sanctuary and a big parking lot" and is prepared to host the event, the secretary confirmed.
A web site set up about Jessica, jessicaridgeway.com, said the memorial is informal and asks attendees to wear purple, Jessica's favorite color.

Jessica Ridgeway: Sketches of a killer
Profilers, criminology studies piece together information to describe suspect
By David Accomazzo and Elizabeth Miller
Thursday, October 18,2012
One of the starkest aspects of the Jessica Ridgeway murder case is the lack of evidence and clues. That no one saw anything smacks of either cold professionalism or blind tragedy.
But even the basic, gruesome details can reveal certain aspects of the crime. Police say Jessica’s body was “not intact.” She was taken in broad daylight, in a neighborhood with potentially dozens of witnesses who might have (but tragically didn’t) witnessed the abduction. Her backpack appeared miles away from both the body and the abduction site. Investigators can form theories and scenarios based on all of these facts.

Jessica Ridgeway: Killer’s ‘awareness space’ may lead to clues
By Jefferson Dodge and Joel Dyer
Thursday, October 18,2012
With the sad discovery of Jessica Ridgeway’s dismembered body last week, the task has now shifted from finding the 10-year-old girl to solving her murder as quickly as possible.
Speed is of the essence in this case, not only because Jessica deserves justice, but also because the evidence suggests that the perpetrator of this heinous crime will likely strike again.
Law enforcement officials from dozens of different agencies, including the FBI, have been gathering and analyzing forensic evidence from Jessica’s home, the location where her body was found and the area where her backpack and its contents were discovered. But unlike an episode of CSI, research on child abduction murder cases suggests that such forensic evidence will not be particularly useful in solving this murder case. In fact, in most cases of child abduction murder, the main role of forensic evidence such as DNA is to help secure a conviction once the murderer has been caught by other means.

Westminster Police on Friday say they recovered a 1-inch wooden cross while investigating the abduction and murder of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway that they believe may help them find her killer.
Police released photographs of the cross that could have been worn on a necklace and may "become a pivotal piece of evidence that helps authorities identify and locate Jessica's killer," according to a press release issued Friday afternoon.
Police have confirmed the cross does not belong to the Ridgeway family, Westminster Police investigator Trevor Materasso said. He would not say where the cross was found.

"The cross has three vertical stripes etched onto the horizontal section and a zigzag pattern on the opposite side, according to police.
"Authorities are looking for someone who may carry or wear this type of cross, may have recently purchased one of these, or is known to have some association with one," they said in a statement.
Police believe there may be a connection between Jessica's killing and an attempted abduction at Ketner Lake, also in Westminster. A suspect from that attempt has been described as a light-skinned male with a medium build and brown hair. He is thought to be between 18-35 years old."

Wow. Thank you Alessandra! Learning a lot from this site:
clipped--
" Police are believed to be circulating the description of an assailant who attacked women in their 20s who were jogging at Ketner Lake in July 2010 and Memorial Day this year.
According to media reports, in the most recent incident, a 22-year-old woman reported that while jogging on the path that circles the small lake at 1:15 p.m. on May 28, she passed a man who was walking the opposite direction on the trail. When she rounded the loop again, the man had turned around and was walking the same direction that she was running. She told police that when she passed him, he grabbed her and tried to put a chemical-soaked rag over her mouth. She fought free, ran away and called 911.
The victim described the man as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair and an average build. He was wearing a blue cap, black T-shirt, jeans and small-rimmed sunglasses.
It is similar to the description of a man who chased and tried to grab another jogger at Ketner Lake in July 2010.
Westminster police refused to release the report on the May 28 incident to BW, saying it is still an open investigation.
What likely makes these two Ketner Lake incidents of interest to those investigating Jessica’s abduction and murder is not only the extremely close geographic proximity to the girl’s home and school (see inset map page 13), but also the brazen character of the crimes."
http://www.boulderweekly.com/article-9976-jessica-ridgeway-killerrss-lsawareness-spacers-may-lead-to-clues.html
Edited to add:
" Again, it is worth pointing out that this description of the man in the blue sedan is nearly identical to that given in media accounts for the man who attacked the jogger at Ketner Lake in May."

Jessica Ridgeway: Sketches of a killer
" Given the dismemberment and other details of the case, O’Toole says all signs point to someone who lives in the area. Dismembering a child’s body is extremely rare, she says, and it is an extremely risky way to destroy and dispose of a body.
“Dismembering a person takes a lot of time. It’s not easy,” O’Toole says. “You’ve added one more step to the [homicide]. That one more step takes time.”
Then there’s the backpack. Reports say it was placed prominently on the sidewalk, but had the man who found it discovered anything indicating murder, he would have called 911 immediately instead of sending a message to the Louisville listserve.
“[It says,] ‘Look over here. Look in this neighborhood; don’t look in my neighborhood,” says freelance criminal profiler Pat Brown. “To me, that would indicate that he lived close to the family.”
Safarik agrees. He says he doubts the backpack was intended for anything other than misdirection.
“It’s a backpack placed to mislead law enforcement in the opposite direction of where the body was placed,” he says."
" Statistics outline her abductor as likely a white male in his late 20s or 30s, without a girlfriend, a wife or children. In the demographic study “Nonfamily Child Abductors Who Murder Their Victims,” which compiled information from detailed interviews with 25 convicted child abductors who murdered their victims, 72 percent were younger than 30, 76 percent were Caucasian, 60 percent were not married, 56 percent had no children. It’s possible a recent conflict with a female, or legal problems, triggered his predatory drive.
Though almost half of the offenders were employed at the time of the murder, it was likely unskilled work. They reported little education beyond high school, 40 percent of them dropping out before graduation."

When she did not show there, the friend's parent drove the friend to school noting Jessica not being there. One thousand feet.

attempted kidnapping of a young boy...
"It sounded like a very similar man. It’s just that he was attacking a woman instead of an eight year old boy.”
— Light-skinned male
— 18-35 (or someone who’s appearance with a ball cap may look that age)
— Brown hair
— Medium build
— 5’6″ to 5’8″ tall"
this is approximately 1 mile from where Jessica lived

Sorry Freckles somehow I misunderstood the article and thought it was a new attempt. I did see your above posts.
I guess I have been a little focused on the cross shown.. it is very similar to the small cross' that the local catholic church gives the kids at confirmation.. minus of course the hash marks...

No need for apologies. Many of us are following the case. I am sure some of my postings are dups of someone else.
Keep hoping for a break in the case.
Earlier, on this page, someone had posted a link and I had followed it to other links. There were three attempted "grabs" in the parks past spring. The common denominator is the description of the suspected person: ALL three matched! While we do not yet have a description of the person snatching little Jessica, a recent attempt to snatch matches the spring descriptions--- and is in the same location. Is it logical to presume this perp IS the same as Monday's/last spring? Of interest now, however, is the description of the vehicle as being a green SUV.
What is odd:
Attempted grabs from last spring were all three females and young adults;
Jessica does not fit the profile.
Attempted grab from Monday was a young boy;
Jessica does not fit the profile.
Is someone attempting to create a cover with the Monday grab of a young boy?
After having 3 adult females "escape", did the perp decide to try to grab a younger girl who was more vulnerable and less able to resist?
IMO, it IS the same perp.
