Thankful! Got a lot of reading to do now.
Quick--- anyone know if the prior "grab' victims have identified this person?
He seems awful young to be trying to grab older females.

Is it possible he is being charged for more than just Jessica's death? Weren't there other abductions in the area or the region? Perhaps they have not released the details or names yet but maybe he is linked to another murder as well.
I found this on CBS -- it seems to provide more clarity that the other media does not
"Police say Sigg is being held on two counts of investigation of first-degree murder, and one count of kidnapping in the Ridgeway case. He is also expected to be charged in the attempted kidnapping case."
How I interpret "two counts of investigation of first degree murder" is that they have someone else they believe may have been murdered (perhaps they have no body yet) and they are considering that Austin is linked to the crime (?)

Two separate cases but...Just like in the Whitney Heichel case the man accused of killing her is being charged with 3 counts of aggravated manslaughter See link: http://www.koinlocal6.com/media/lib/107/4/3/2/432e9d7a-07ea-4768-b441-60dbba3cb9cb/affidavit.pdf
I am confused as well as to how someone can be charged with killing someone more than once??? When I watched the PC yesterday they did say that the First degree murder charges pertained to the Jessica Ridgeway case as well as the kidnapping, but that the attempted abduction was related to another person. Hopefully they will clear this up soon because it's confusing.

With the "Joker" Colorado shooter didn't he get charged double the amount of people that died? I think it's based on a criteria of how they died or something along those lines that let's them charge you for 2 of the same counts on 1 actual murder...

Prosecutors: Teen confesses in death of Colo. girl
AP / October 25, 2012
GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado teenager has confessed in the abduction and killing of a 10-year-old girl and in a separate attack on a runner, prosecutors said Thursday.
The suspect, 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg, made his first court appearance Thursday in the death of Jessica Ridgeway and an assault on a 22-year-old female runner in May.
Authorities said Thursday they have ‘‘overwhelming’’ DNA evidence against Sigg.
Sigg lived about a mile from Jessica Ridgeway, who disappeared Oct. 5.
He kept head bowed for much of the time, talking with his attorney but otherwise saying little.
He made eye contact at one point with relatives of Ridgeway, who were in the courtroom wearing purple ribbons in the girl’s memory.
District Attorney Scott Storey said the law prevents prosecutors from seeking the death penalty because Sigg is a juvenile, even though he is being prosecuted as an adult.

As soon as Sigg, sporting a goatee and a mohawk, was brought into the courtroom, one of his family members began to sob.
During the hearing, his public defenders kept referring to Sigg, who is being held at Mount View Youth Services Center, as a "child."
The suspect, who will be formally charged on Oct. 30, is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, felony murder and kidnapping in Jessica's case and faces charges of a criminal attempt to kidnap and murder in the attack on a jogger at Ketner Lake.

uh yeah...a "child" who happens to be enrolled in college. guess that term will be dropped if he's tried as an adult.
IMO, the case is far more heinous than the 14 yr old who strangled her newborn son and they are trying her as an adult. Given the number of other crimes he's involved in, I'm not placing my bets that he'll be tried in juvie court.

My rage with this monster is so unbelievable.
I am glad I am not in a courtroom near such a perverted, evil, disgusting turd!
Re what appears to be multiple charges:
I am not sure of the charging in this case but in other cases, I have seen what appears to be multiple charging.
In those cases, there could be a charge of murder AND manslaughter II, kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, etc.. In other words, beginning with say, conspiracy to kidnap, attempt to kidnap, kidnapping they are each listed for the jury to consider IF there higher charge is not brought in. In the middle of deliberations, the state can't mention lesser charges unless it was listed at the start of trial or the two parties + judge agree to new/lesser terms.

In 2 murder cases, mothers turn in their own sons
JOCELYN NOVECK - Associated Press (AP)
Posted October 25, 2012 at 6:41 p.m.
GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — Mindy Sigg sat sobbing on Thursday, listening to prosecutors tell a court that her 17-year-old son had confessed to the abduction and killing of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
While any mother would be devastated, there was an even more heartbreaking wrinkle for Sigg: She was the one who called police.
It was not the only high-profile case this week in which a mother made that painful choice. In New Jersey, Anita Saunders saw something on a Facebook page that led her to call police.
Her two sons, ages 15 and 17, are now charged with murdering 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale, a bike-lover who authorities said was lured to their home with the promise of new parts.
What does it feel like to turn in your child, knowing they could be sentenced to many years in prison? Surely, no one knows but those who've done it.
But a main motivation, according to one criminologist, is simply a desire to do the right thing.

GOLDEN — The father of accused killer Austin Sigg asked the public to pray for the family of 10-year-old murder victim Jessica Ridgeway on Thursday, following his son's first appearance in Jefferson County juvenile court in connection to the crime.
"There are no words to express the sorrow that I and my family feel for their pain they are suffering. We are devastated by the knowledge that my son ... has been arrested and will be charged with the murder of their beautiful daughter Jessica," Rob Sigg said in a written statement Thursday afternoon.
He also lauded his ex-wife's "courageous act" in alerting authorities on Tuesday to their teenaged son's alleged involvement, calling it "unimaginably painful for any parent."

Thank you for the time and the effort you have given to share so much.
I hope God was working with little Jessica and enabled her to RIP the cross from the neck of the hypocrite. Those actions of his were far from being a God-loving human. His actions were evil.
May God hold her close and keep her dear.

Alessandra - when I saw the hole in the wood, like Freckles I too thought that likely a leather lanyard held it and I wondered if it got ripped off in the struggle or placed as a sick perverted distraction. I think the latter. But God this kid was stupid -- that kind of thing is very noticeable if worn all the time -- especially by a male wear adornment is less common.

I have a sinking suspicion that counseling and healing played a role in this (coming from a long-time client of therapy). Based on what else I know -- Sigg's mom is a victim of spousal abuse - to the point where legal action was taken. Two things happen there, either the wife gets therapy and gets help, or she remains untreated in her sickness. Once someone starts therapy -- they often realize how good it is for all sorts of emotional ailments. And if you really follow the rigorous re-training of the brain, then you start to become an empowered person of action instead of the victim. The fact that Sigg was treated by therapy for his porn addiction was likely at the demands of his mother who was already seeing the benefits of receiving treatment herself. I believe Sigg has a sibling -- a younger brother. I highly suspect that his mother has learned from counseling that the kids have to learn ownership of their behavior -- especially sons who were raised by an abusive father.
I will put money on the fact that the phone call Sigg's mom placed was not only because it was the right thing to do -- but she was making sure her younger son learns the very important lesson that with actions there are cnsequences. She knew she couldn't help her oldest son at that point -- but her younger son is still salvagable and she has a vested interest to save his life.

It would be interesting to know if his porn addiction (severe - was the description to be treated at 15 years old) was an addiction to "snuff" porn!

This eerily reminds me of the murder movie called "Murder by Numbers" where a very intelligent, if not egotistical high schooler decides he's going to try to "get away" with murder. Stars Sandra Bullock. The premise was very interesting. The sexual fantasy had nothing to do with the actual act, but rather the act of the killing and empowerment.
Sigg appeared calm in court today...was described by one acquaintance as egotistical. I still wonder what caused him to turn himself in to his mother...

DENVER—Police in a Colorado town where the body of a missing 10-year-old girl was found said Friday that they want to question a teenage suspect in two unsolved child enticement cases.
A sketch developed in the September incidents bears some resemblance to 17-year-old Austin Sigg, who's being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of Jessica Ridgeway, Arvada police spokesman Sgt. Mark Nazaryk said.
The sketch and Sigg's mug shot wasn't an exact match, Nazaryk noted.
He also said investigators were trying to determine if Sigg had access to a royal blue, four-door sedan described by witnesses in both cases.
