New England Patriots Aaron Hernandez arrested on murder charge - Trial set to begin January 9, 2015
Hernandez meets with lawyers, no charges filed
Patriots tight end largely out of view as rumors outdistance real news

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH — In a day filled with rumor and anticipation, New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez huddled with his lawyers in Boston Friday, while investigators remained tight-lipped about the homicide investigation that has embroiled the football star.
Reporters stood vigil outside Hernandez’s North Attleborough home and at a local courthouse, on speculation that investigators were poised to take action against him.
The stakeouts by reporters and photographers extended to Dorchester, where the anguished family of a 27-year-old man gunned downed Monday near Hernandez’s home demanded justice.
Hernandez’s entanglement in the ongoing investigation cost him a corporate sponsorship Friday, as a nutritional company terminated the player’s endorsement contract.

Police Spend Hours At Aaron Hernandez's House As Reports Mount Of Impending Arrest
Charge Would Be Obstruction Of Justice
By KELLY GLISTA and NICHOLAS RONDINONE
The Hartford Courant

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. —— Aaron Hernandez remained a free man as of midday Sunday, despite reports that an arrest warrant has been prepared to charge him with interfering with the investigation into the shooting death of a man who was dating his girlfriend's sister.
Police spent nearly four hours at Hernandez's house Saturday, from 1:45 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m. Some officers carried paper bags of unidentified items out of the home of the New England Patriots' star tight end and Bristol native. Two K-9 units also searched the house Saturday. Police searched the backyard, and searched and photographed Hernandez's SUV. A locksmith also spent time in the house.
Hernandez's attorney, Michael Fee, arrived at the home at about 3:40 p.m. and remained in the house after police left. Two women emerged from the home during the afternoon Saturday. Late Sunday morning, two women again left the house, driving away in a silver Nissan with a Connecticut license plate.

The dead body at the center of the Aaron Hernandez murder probe has been identified as 27-year-old semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd of Dorchester, Massachusetts, reports CBS Boston.
Lloyd was killed by a single bullet wound to the back of the head, reports ABC News.
1. Lloyd Was Partying With Hernandez on Sunday Night
"Ted Daniel @TedDanielFOX25
LAW SOURCE: Aaron Hernandez was driver of a vehicle Odin LLoyd and 2 others in. Lloyd found dead one mile from Hernandez home.

On Sunday night, Hernandez was at a Boston-area bar with Odin Lloyd, reports Fox 25. According to their source, Hernandez, Lloyd and two others left the bar together, with Hernandez driving, this is attributed to a text Lloyd sent to a friend around that time.
They report that only three men returned to Hernandez's home that night, and Lloyd was not one of them. The semi-pro football star had not been seen by his uncle, who he lived with on Fayston street (below), since Sunday night.

2. Lloyd Was Reportedly Dating Hernandez's Girlfriend's Sister
A neighbor of Lloyd's told WBZ that it was known in their neighborhood, in Fayston Street in Boston, that he was dating the sister of Aaron Hernandez's girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins, Shanea Jenkins.
Detectives had difficulty in locating Jenkins in the immediate aftermath of Lloyd's homicide, but ABC News says investigators have spoken to her as of Wednesday evening.
Shayanna Jenkins is the mother to Hernandez's daughter, Avielle Janelle, born in November 2012. At that time Hernandez gave an interview in which he stated:
"Another one is looking up to me. I can’t just be young and reckless Aaron no more. I’m gonna try to do the right things, become a good father"

5 Things to Know About Aaron Hernandez, NFL Star Linked to Murder Investigation

NFL star Aaron Hernandez has been all over the news this week, after the body of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd was found shot in the head a mile from Hernandez’s home, according to police. Hernandez has not been charged with homicide, but authorities say they want to know why he allegedly destroyed his home surveillance system and cell phone—and cleaned his house thoroughly—the day Lloyd’s body was discovered.
~Snipped~
2. There are two separate ongoing investigations involving Aaron Hernandez
One concerns a lawsuit from a former acquaintance, Alexander Bradley, alleging that Hernandez shot him in the face in Florida after an argument outside a strip club in February. According to the official complaint, Hernandez shot him with an illegal gun, causing Bradley to lose his right eye.
The other investigation involves the apparent homicide of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Lloyd’s body was discovered Monday in an industrial block around a mile from Aaron Hernandez’s home in North Attleborough, Mass. Lloyd had been shot in the back of the head, according to police. Hernandez is connected to the murder investigation because surveillance tapes from night clubs showed him and two other men with Lloyd in the hours before Lloyd was shot. As of early Friday afternoon, Hernandez has not been charged with homicide, but has also not been ruled out as a suspoect.

Examining Aaron Hernandez's New England Patriots contract

In almost all situations, when an NFL player is suspended, he forfeits all of the future guarantees in his contract. Even if a signing bonus or base salary is guaranteed for skill, injury and salary cap, a "failure to perform" or "failure to practice" clause makes those guarantees null and void.
In a surprising twist, this appears not to be the case with the five-year, $40-million extension signed by New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in August of 2012. Upon close reading of his contract language -- and after confirming the development with an expert -- the "failure to perform" or "failure to practice" clause that appears in similar Patriots extensions is not present. This means Hernandez might be able to keep nearly $2.5 million of the deal, even if legal troubles prevented him from taking the field.

New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez Arrested at His Home
BY DASSHIELL BENNETT
June 26, 2013
NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez, who has been embroiled in a murder investigation for more than a week, was taken from his home in handcuffs this morning, leading to speculation he may soon be charged in the shooting death of a close "associate." Massachusetts State Police say the charges will be revealed when he appears in court later today.
Police have been surprisingly quiet about their findings in the case of Odin Lloyd, an associate of Hernandez's who was found dead near the New England Patriot's home on June 17. As recently as yesterday, they were insisting that no suspects had been named in the murder case and they even got a judge to seal all documents in the case. Yet police showed up at his house this morning, placed the 23-year-old in handcuffs, and took him away in a police cruiser. It appears he was not given a chance to surrender voluntarily.

McCauley said the crime stemmed from a night out at a Boston club called Rumor on June 14. He said Hernandez was upset about certain things, including that Lloyd had talked to some people Hernandez "had troubles with."
Two days later, McCauley said, on the night of June 16, Hernandez texted two friends from out of state and asked them to hurry back to Massachusetts.
Surveillance footage from outside Hernandez's home showed him leaving with a gun, and he told someone in the house that he was upset and couldn't trust anyone anymore, the prosecutor said.
The three men picked up Lloyd at his home around 2:30 a.m., according to authorities. As they drove around, they discussed what happened at the nightclub, and Lloyd started getting nervous, McCauley said.
Lloyd texted his sister, "Did you see who I am with?" When she asked who, he answered, at 3:22 a.m., "NFL," then, a minute later, "Just so you know."

Former Patriots Tight End Is Charged With Murder

Prosecutors said home surveillance videos taken from Hernandez’s house show him in possession of firearms before and after Lloyd was killed, that Hernandez was observed picking Lloyd up at 2:30 a.m. on the night he was killed, that a silver Nissan Altima — the same make of vehicle Hernandez had rented — was seen going to and coming from the site where Lloyd’s body was found and that Hernandez was seen exiting his vehicle with a gun at his home at 3:29 a.m., shortly after authorities say Lloyd had been murdered.
Prosecutors added that .45 caliber shell casings found at the scene matched shell casings found in Hernandez’s rental car.
“The defendant orchestrated the execution,” an assistant district attorney, Bill McCauley, said. Lloyd, he said, was shot five times.
One of Hernandez’s lawyers, Michael Fee, called the case against him “weak” and “circumstantial.”

Prosecution details events it says led to Odin Lloyd’s homicide
By Jay Hart | Shutdown Corner – 3 hours ago
For more than 20 minutes, Bristol County prosecutor William McCauley stood in a Massachusetts courtroom Wednesday detailing the events that led to Aaron Hernandez's arrest and subsequent charge of first-degree murder.
With Hernandez, who pled not guilty to the charge, standing just a few feet away, McCauley went through a timeline of events – extracted from surveillance videos, cell phone records and cell phone towers – that the prosecution says ended with the execution of Odin Lloyd:
June 16
9:02 p.m.: Hernandez texts a friend out of state saying "please make it back"
9:05: Hernandez texts Lloyd that he wants to get together
9:35: Hernandez texts a friend in Connecticut that says "get your ass up here"
10:23: Hernandez texts the same friend, "Hurry your ass up"

One day after being arraigned on six charges -- including first-degree murder -- in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is now being investigated as a possible suspect in a July 2012 double murder that happened in Boston, according to WFXT-TV, a Fox affiliate in Boston.
On July 16, 2012, Boston police responded to a call just after 2 a.m. ET, according to the report. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found three people in a car at a traffic light who had all been shot. Two of the men in the vehicle had been fatally shot.
The two men who were fatally wounded were sitting in the front seat of the car. The passenger in the back of the vehicle survived. There were also two other passengers in the vehicle who were unharmed. Witnesses in the area placed a grey or silver SUV with Rhode Island license plates at the scene of the crime.

Reports: Aaron Hernandez now being investigated for possible role in 2012 double murder in Boston
By Frank Schwab | Shutdown Corner – 12 hours
Aaron Hernandez, charged Wednesday for the murder of Odin Lloyd on June 17, is also being investigated in connection with a 2012 double murder in Boston, reports said.
The additional Hernandez investigation was first reported by the Fox affiliate in Boston. The Boston Globe, citing two unnamed law enforcement officials, confirmed that Hernandez is being investigated for possible involvement with the unsolved double murder. ABC confirmed that as well.
The Boston Globe said Lloyd may have had information on that double murder, which happened last July 16 when Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado were ambushed in their car at a stop light, shot and killed.
A judge on Thursday denied Hernandez's appeal for bail. He will continue to be held without bail as he awaits trial.

Jail officials check Hernandez tattoos for gang affiliations

With Aaron Hernandez behind bars indefinitely, officials are taking a close look at the vast array of tattoos on his body. The purpose of the effort isn’t to critique the ink but to ensure Hernandez’s safety.
“We’ll be looking at his tattoos to see if there are any symbols that affiliate with gangs,” Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told the Boston Herald. “We have to always be vigilant around security and not place him somewhere where there are rival gang members.”
If that happens, Hernandez could be in danger.
“Hernandez could be a very appealing target for someone who wants to make a reputation for himself,” UCLA adjunct professor of social welfare Jorja Leap told the Herald. “The sheriff needs to be extra careful with someone like Hernandez.”

Odin Lloyd, killed two weeks ago tonight, knew Aaron Hernandez. Two other murdered men to whom Hernandez has been tied didn’t know him.
According to Antonio Planas of the Boston Herald, 28-year-old Safiro Furtado and 29-year-old Daniel Abreu weren’t acquainted with Hernandez, according to their families.
“Whatever they got caught up with, it’s something that just happened at the moment,” said Jose Centeio, a cousin of Furtado who employed both men at a cleaning business. “That’s the sad thing about it.”

AARON HERNANDEZ
Cops theory on
M.O. FOR MURDER
Police have a theory as to why they think former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd -- he knew secrets that could have destroyed Aaron's relationship with his fiancée and the team.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... there are several operating theories, but a prevailing one based on evidence they have already unearthed is that Lloyd "mouthed off" to Hernandez about "secrets" Hernandez had told him in the past.
As for what the nature of the secrets -- we're told they involve 2 issues: Aaron's involvement in drugs and Aaron's involvement in several violent incidents.

Gainesville PD confirms Aaron Hernandez ‘questioned very briefly’ in ’07 shooting

The sad, sordid soap opera that is Aaron Hernandez would not normally fall under the purview of CFT, but a confirmed development has prompted us to at least dip our toes into the evolving tragedy.
Following up on the speculation in the days since the now-former New England Patriots player was arrested on a first-degree murder charge — and his potential role in a double homicide last year has seen the public light — Gainesville police confirmed to the Gainesville Sun Saturday that Hernandez was “questioned very briefly” in regards to a shooting in late September of 2007 that injured two individuals. From the Sun:
Corey T. Smith, now 33, and Justin E. Glass, now 24, were in a car stopped in westbound traffic when Smith, the passenger, was shot in the head. Glass was shot in the arm by a man police said walked up to the car and fired several shots from a handgun.
Several members of the Gators at the time were interviewed by police in connection to the shootings, including Hernandez as well as, the paper reported, players such as Reggie Nelson and the Pouncey twins, Mike and Maurkice.

The lawyer for the Connecticut man suing Aaron Hernandez now believes Hernandez intended to kill his client after a night of partying in Miami.
Alexander Bradley, 30, filed a civil complaint in a U.S. District Court in South Florida in which he accused Hernandez of shooting him in the face on Feb. 13. Bradley was found alone and bleeding from the face and arm in a Riviera Beach, Fla. industrial park, about an hour north of the strip club where he had spent the previous evening with Hernandez and others.
"I think he was left there because they thought he would be dead," attorney David Jaroslawicz told USA TODAY Sports on Friday.

Wow, that's interesting. All this time I thought AH "shot" Lloyd and instead he "did assault and beat" him and by "such assault and beating did kill and murder" him. So, the other 1 or 2 that were also arrested must have shot Lloyd?

Aaron Hernandez family member killed in car accident
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 2, 2013, 6:56 PM EDT
A member of Aaron Hernandez’s family whom police wanted to question in connection with the ongoing murder investigation has died in a car accident.
The Hartford Courant reports that Thaddeus Singleton III, the son-in-law of Hernandez’s uncle, was killed when the car he was driving flew off the road and crashed into a pole. The car Singleton was driving was owned by Hernandez’s uncle. The death was ruled an accident.
It is unclear what police believed Singleton knew about the murder of Odin Lloyd, but the report says that police had been seeking to speak with him. Singleton had previously been convicted of multiple drug charges in Connecticut.

Investigators in the Aaron Hernandez murder case were prepared to interview a Bristol man who was killed early Sunday when he crashed a car registered to his father-in-law, the former New England Patriot tight end's uncle.
Multiple law enforcement sources said Massachusetts investigators were interested in speaking with Thaddeus Singleton III, 33, because he was associated with Hernandez. Singleton, who records show has served time in state prisons on various drug-related convictions dating to the mid-1990s, was killed when the car he was driving shot 100 through the air and hit the Farmington Country Club 6 feet off the ground.
The Nissan Maxima was registered to Andres Valderrama, Hernandez's uncle, law enforcement sources said. A female passenger identified as Tabitha Perry, 27, was injured in the crash, Farmington police said.

Sheriff: Aaron Hernandez denies being in gang
Tuesday, July 2, 2013
Accused killer and ex-Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez told Bristol County correction officers examining his heavily tattooed torso for telltale gang signs that he has never been a member of any street gang, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told the Herald.
“He talked to our gang investigators and said he didn’t have any involvement,” Hodgson said yesterday, adding that his gang unit is still investigating the matter.
“We always take extra precautions. We don’t have any definite issues at this point, but we’re still being very cautious,” Hodgson said.

Aaron Hernandez was reportedly involved in domestic dispute; neighbors call him a ‘nightmare’
By Steve DelVecchio July 2, 2013
Stories of Aaron Hernandez’s checkered past continue to surface on a daily basis as he sits at the Bristol County House of Correction wondering what the future will bring. We knew Hernandez failed drug tests in college and hung out with some shady characters, but the more we learn the easier it is to understand why the New England Patriots got him in the fourth round of the draft.
On Tuesday, TMZ released two separate reports about past instances where police had to be called because of something Hernandez allegedly did. The first reportedly involved a domestic incident a year ago with his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, at Hernandez’s rental home in a beachside community in Los Angeles.
TMZ cited law enforcement officials who claim a neighbor in Hernandez’s Hermosa Beach community called the police to report that Aaron and Shayanna were “fighting.” When officers arrived, Jenkins reportedly told them she was OK and did not want to press charges. The sources also said police went to the home several times for noise complaints and that Hernandez “acted like and a**hole.”

Aaron Hernandez's fiancee Shayanna Jenkins reacts in court.
Updated Jul 3, 2013 12:17 PM ET
Count getting married as one of the freedoms former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez could forfeit while incarcerated.
Hernandez is being held in Massachusetts’ Bristol County House of Corrections after he plead not guilty to murder in the June 17 death of Odin Lloyd.
Now, according to USA Today, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson says he will do all he can to prohibit Hernandez from getting married while in jail.
"I don't subscribe to that. I feel that those rights are things that you access on the outside, if you're a good citizen," he told the paper. "We'll do everything we can to not have that happen.
"If you want to get married, what you do is, you stay out of jail."

Cops grab evidence at Franklin ‘flop house’
By: Dave Wedge, Christine McConville and Antonio Planas

A sidekick of Aaron Hernandez is cooperating with authorities in what one former prosecutor called a key development in the murder case against the ex-Patriots star, as new evidence emerged yesterday potentially tying him to the slaying of Odin L. Lloyd.
Court documents obtained yesterday show that Carlos Ortiz — who authorities say was with Hernandez when the Dorchester amateur football player was executed in North Attleboro on June 17 — has flipped on his friend.
Ortiz, who hails from Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, Conn., talked to state troopers in Connecticut last week and directed cops to a secret crash pad in Franklin leased by Hernandez, court papers show.

Aaron Hernandez jury probing
The Associated Press
Updated: July 5, 2013, 11:47 PM ET
HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Connecticut man who says he lost an eye after being shot by Aaron Hernandez in February was ordered Friday to appear before a grand jury in Massachusetts that is considering the murder case against the former New England Patriots tight end.
Superior Court Judge Joan Alexander in Hartford ordered Alexander Bradley to appear July 17 in Fall River, Mass., where a grand jury is looking into allegations Hernandez orchestrated the shooting of Odin Lloyd, according to a clerk for the court.

Hernandez has been charged with murder in district court in Massachusetts but a grand jury indictment or probable cause hearing would be necessary for him to face trial on felony charges. Hernandez, 23, has pleaded not guilty.
The Bristol County district attorney's office in Massachusetts said it could not comment on any grand jury investigation.

Investigators return to Hernandez apartment
Posted by Mike Florio on July 5, 2013, 10:38 AM EDT
The apartment Aaron Hernandez maintained roughly 20 minutes from his $1.3 million home has been called a “flop house.”
According to FOX 25 in Boston, investigators returned to the apartment complex in Franklin, Massachusetts area on Wednesday night for further searching. Per the report, the efforts focused on the pool area.
The biggest piece of evidence the police apparently haven’t found is the gun that was allegedly used to kill Odin Lloyd. Previously, police searched a pond near Hernandez’s home for the gun.

Report: Aaron Hernandez never failed drug test with Patriots
By Will Brinson | NFL Writer
July 7, 2013 9:00 am ET
Much has been made recently of Aaron Hernandez past at Florida. As the former Patriots tight end sits in jail, facing a murder charge, every speck of trouble from his past bubbles up to be scrutinized by the seething public.
It's worth noting, then, in the interest of being fair, that Hernandez was never a problem for New England once they drafted him. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe wrote as much in his Sunday notes column, including making the point that Hernandez never failed a drug test while playing for the Pats.
"For three years in New England, Hernandez did everything Bill Belichick asked of him football-wise, according to a team source," Volin writes. "He showed up to meetings and practices on time, practiced hard, stayed in shape, was very coachable, and starred on the field, scoring 18 touchdowns in three seasons.
"Just as importantly, he didn't fail one NFL drug test in three seasons."

Accomplice told that Hernandez did it (Video)
Updated: July 10, 2013, 2:09 PM ET
Carlos Ortiz, one of the alleged accomplices in the Aaron Hernandez case, says he was told that Hernandez said he killed Odin Lloyd.
According to court documents released Tuesday, Ortiz told police that Ernest Wallace, a second alleged accomplice, told him the day after the shooting that Hernandez admitted to killing Lloyd.
After Lloyd was shot near Hernandez's home in North Attleborough, Mass., Ortiz and Wallace returned to Bristol, Conn. That is where, according to court records made public in Florida Tuesday, Ortiz told police that Wallace said Hernandez shot Lloyd.
Investigators learned Ortiz had a previously scheduled meeting with his probation officer on June 25 and were present when he arrived.

Documents: Aaron Hernandez admitted firing fatal shots
Vehicle sought in double slaying was rented in Hernandez's name
Wednesday, July 10, 2013

ATTLEBORO — ATTLEBORO — An associate of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez said he was told Hernandez fired the shots that resulted in the death of a semi-pro football player, according to documents filed in Florida.
The records, obtained by The Associated Press, also show that a vehicle wanted in a double killing in Boston a year before had been rented in Hernandez's name.
Together, the revelations provide the most damning evidence yet against the 23-year-old star athlete.

The documents were filed in court by the Miramar, Fla., police department to justify a search of Wallace's mother's home in that city.
The records also show that police, while investigating Lloyd's killing, searched in Hernandez's hometown of Bristol, Conn., and found a vehicle wanted in connection with a July 2012 double homicide near a Boston nightclub.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in Lloyd's killing. His legal team did not return email messages Tuesday. Wallace faces an accessory to murder charge in the case and has pleaded not guilty.
