Jury finds David Pietz guilty of murdering wife

SEATTLE —

A jury has found Lynnwood man David Pietz  guilty  of murdering his wife, Nicole Pietz, in 2006.

David Pietz has been on trial for two weeks. He was charged with second-degree murder.

A King County jury found David Pietz guilty Monday of murdering his wife, Nicole, seven years ago.

Jurors reached the verdict during the second day of deliberations.

"You're going to Hell," a friend of Nicole's mother said to David, pointing to him as he left the courtroom.

Friends and family say justice has finally been served.

"This is the best feeling ever, it's been seven years, eight months, and 17 days... Nici can rest in peace,” said Barbara Arionus

"She'll never come back, we got justice for her, but I'll never get to hold her again,” said Nicole’s mother, Gael Schnieder.

Nicole's mother said she would now like David to be honest and admit, after years of denials, his role in her murder.

"David, I hope you find it in your heart to be sorry, because otherwise, you're gonna burn in hell forever,” she said.

Pietz, 36, showed little emotion beyond beads of perspiration glistening on his brow when the guilty verdict was announced at around 2pm Monday. He faces between 10 and 18 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.

Emotions ran high in the King County courtrhouse, where the victim's relatives and friends sobbed with relief in reaction to the verdict.

Nicole Pietz's sister Tonia Zurcher yelled out, 'You're going to burn in hell, Pietz,' as he was led out of the courtroom following his conviction.

The juror's were listening closely as we hoped they would.
What floors me however is the that he's only facing 10 to 18 years behind bars. Is that really all?
Maybe someone will practice their strangling skills on him daily while he's cooling his heels in their back yard, but not finish the job until an hour before he has a chance to walk out of prison, huh?

I heard that, too--I'm praying for 18 years.

Now that he has been convicted for second degree murder, I bet there won't be any more bank manger jobs in his future, even if he only gets 10 years.  

Me too Nan, I hope he gets the 18 as well. Also from watching that video I was surprised at how the judge didn't look over the papers, he just read them, lol and didn't even bat an eye. Then he asks his attorneys if their client needs to be in the court room any longer after polling the jury, lol. I'm pretty sure he doesn't like the convicted murderer and I hope he tells him off when he sentences him.

Sentencing in State v. Martin David Pietz has been scheduled for November 7 at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Michael Hayden at the King County Courthouse, courtroom E-863. On Monday, a jury convicted Pietz of Murder in the Second Degree as charged for the death of his wife Nicole in January 2006. Pietz, 36, faces a sentence range of about 10 to just over 18 years in prison. The case was handled by Senior DPAs Carla Carlstrom and Kristin Richardson.

I watched it, too.  The one piece of new information I hadn't heard before is that David had Nicole cremated and gave her ashes away to the real estate agent that sold them the condo.  Didn't even offer them to Nicole's mother.    He is truly evil.

I, too, hope he gets the maximum sentence.

I caught the last part of it and I must have missed Michele's Mon's testimony cuz I didn't know that she would call him at night at about the same time she thought he had killed her and then would show up at his job and make sure everyone knew he killed his wife, her daughter. I was 'You Go Lady' she was really brave to do that. And as one human to another I am so proud of her for doing that.
What I don't get is why the real estate sales person would want Michele's ashes unless they had planned to give them to Michele's family. But yeah CP, just more of the cold hearted part of this horrible person.

He gave Nicole's pets to people who hardly knew them instead of giving them to her family, her family had asked for her pets and wanted to take care of them. He  is despicable and disgusting, to say the least.  

I'm also very proud of Nicole's mother, I admire her courage and her determination to get justice for her daughter.

I missed this show. And I am speechless just hearing about the things he did after he murdered her. There has to be a special place in hell for him right? Wow just wow.

I respect her mother greatly. I think if I was put in the same position I would not have acted with as much grace as she has while working towards justice in a lawful fashion. I think I would be in jail cause if anyone killed my daughter and gave her ashes away to a freaking real estate agent I would have gone berserk all over that murderer. That would have been the final straw.

And don't even get me started on what he did with her pets either. I am surprised he didn't drop them off to be euthanized.

Thank God her mother persisted and at least he will get some sort of punishment in this life.

What a horrible person he is. I really hope he becomes someone's B!T@h in prison.

I'm praying for the max!

I came across this article below and thought I would add it.  Maybe the judge got an earful from the jury and is considering it.

The defense motion, filed by attorney David Allen on Oct. 24, argued that Judge Michael Hayden violated a rule of judicial conduct by meeting privately with jurors Oct. 14 soon after they found him guilty of strangling his wife, Nicole Pietz, and leaving her nude body in a wooded area in Burien.

The state objected to the defense motion, calling it baseless. Hayden denied the motion last week.

Thanks for posting that, One!  I'm so glad he got the maximum sentence!

I've never seen anyone fingerprinted in a courtroom before.  That was odd!

I hope her family and friends can finally begin the healing process.
