NEWPORT, Mich. -- A rural bank building southwest of Detroit is repurposed into a missing-person search headquarters lined with boxes of fliers, flashlights, neon vests and doughnuts.

In this Monroe County community where everybody seems to know everyone, a 22-year-old woman has gone missing. And there's an open invitation for anyone who wants to help look for her: Just come to 8799 Swan Creek Road.

Chelsea Bruck's friends and family haven't heard from her since a witness last reports seeing her about 3 a.m. Oct. 26, outside a Halloween party attended by roughly 800 people on the 3500 block of Post Road.

Monday, a week after the searches started, her mother, Leannda Bruck, greeted people at the Newport branch of Monroe Bank and Trust as they arrived at the search headquarters to offer a hand, supplies or a hug. A sign on the glass door says the branch closed for business in 2012, but 19 other signs say "Missing" and include photos of Chelsea.

Leanndra Bruck has worked for the bank for several years. Because this branch was in use only for ATM purposes, she was given the keys to move the search operations indoors. With as many as 100 volunteers appearing each day, the mother said she's keeping a positive attitude despite feelings of helplessness.

Hundreds of people from Michigan and other states attended a weekend Halloween party at which a 22-year-old Monroe County woman disappeared.

Chelsea Ellen Bruck of Maybee was last seen walking with an unknown man at about 3 a.m. Sunday outside the party on Post Road in Frenchtown Township, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported, based on a witness statement. She was dressed as the Poison Ivy character from Batman, with black Yoga pants, a leaf-covered top and a dark-purple wig.

Bruck's family and friends are planning to expand a search today for clues to the missing young woman's whereabouts.

Monroe sheriff: Partiers too high to help missing case

Frenchtown Township – — Investigators have interviewed more than 100 witnesses about a Michigan woman's disappearance from an outdoor Halloween party, but many were too high or drunk to offer much help, a sheriff said Wednesday.

There's no evidence Chelsea Bruck was hurt or killed, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said. But her Oct. 26 disappearance has prompted a search that now includes all of the state as well as Ohio and Indiana.

Malone said many of the partygoers interviewed have admitted to being "highly intoxicated" and have not offered the tips authorities hoped they would. Another challenge has been the fact that the roughly 600 people who attended the party were in costumes, he said.

"That's the problem — that's what we're dealing with," he said during a news conference.

Chelsea Bruck hurt herself at party before going missing

MONROE, MIch. — There is no evidence that Chelsea Bruck was under any duress or experiencing any problems with other people at the rural Halloween party from which she disappeared two weekends ago, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Maybee resident had been drinking and walked into a post at about 12:45 a.m. Oct. 26, gashing the bridge of her nose and forehead, he said. She was last reported seen near the parking area at about 3 a.m. at the party attended by hundreds of people from Michigan and other states.

Investigators haven't discovered what happened to her, and they haven't been able to identify a man a witness identified through a police sketch as the last person she was seen with.

The biggest lead cops have revealed in the search for Chelsea Bruck, the 22-year-old who disappeared from an extravagant, rural Halloween party in Michigan more than a week ago, is little more than a banged-up nose.

Investigators are scouring video footage from the Oct. 25 party, featuring fire dancers and live bands, in Monroe County for any trace of the missing woman who vanished while happily dressed as Poison Ivy, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone announced during a Wednesday press conference.

The party had been crawling with more than 600 people a week before Halloween.

The last known photograph of Bruck was taken shortly before she tripped and hit her nose and forehead on a wooden post, according to one of nearly 300 tips pouring into the Sheriff’s Office.

Police hope video of missing Chelsea Bruck and public's help yield clues

Newport, Mi. (WJBK) - It's been 10 days since Chelsea Bruck's disappearance at a Halloween party in Frenchtown Township.

Now the Monroe Sheriff's Department asks the public for additional help giving Fox 2 a first-hand look at a new video hoping it would provide clues.

Volunteers have been coming and going from an old bank in Newport  which has become a search party headquarters.  

As they try to canvass the area, investigators hope a new video will spark a break in the case for the 22-year-old, who was last seen dressed in a Poison Ivy costume.

Twice a year in June and on Halloween, hundreds would attend a party on Post Road in Newport.

That includes Chelsea Bruck seen here in this music video shot at the same location over summer, wearing a white shirt and black pants.

The video was taken at a party this past June. the Monroe sheriff says 150-200 people were there that night.

Family Vows To Find Chelsea Bruck Despite Police No Longer ‘Actively Searching’

MONROE (WWJ) - Teams from Texas will be joining the search for a 22-year-old Monroe County woman who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Police on Wednesday said they are no longer actively searching for Chelsea Bruck, who disappeared from an Oct. 26 a Halloween Party, saying investigators haven’t uncovered any information “to believe that she is not alive at this time.”

But that’s not stopping Bruck’s family from trying to bring her home. Members of the Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search & Recovery organization will be joining the search for Bruck at 8 a.m. Friday, and again Saturday and Sunday if needed.

Family enlists professional help to find missing woman

With the search for a missing Maybee woman nearing the two-week mark, Chelsea Bruck’s family has enlisted the help of professionals to assist them in reorganizing the family-led search efforts.

This weekend, volunteers with the Ohio chapter of Texas Equusearch, or TXEQ, will be in Monroe County offering insight on the best approach and tactics for looking for a missing person.

“This is the worst game of hide- and-go-seek that you can ever play,” said David Rader, director of the Ohio Chapter of TXEQ. “How can one or two people be out there that 1,000 can’t find?”

Family and friends turned to public prayer as the police continue to search for a missing 22- year-old Maybee woman. Dozens gathered in Loranger Square Monday to pray for the safe return of Chelsea Bruck, who has been missing more than week.

“We ask God to do the things we can’t figure out ourselves,” said the Rev. John Piippo of Redeemer Fellowship Church in Monroe. The pastor was asked by the Bruck family to lead the prayer vigil, which drew dozens of people to downtown Monroe.

“ We pray that she’s found safe,” Pastor Piippo continued.

Remains found on construction site identified as Chelsea Bruck

APRIL 25th, 2015:

Officials in Monroe County announced Saturday that human remains found on a construction site have been positively identified as Chelsea Bruck.

The body was discovered Friday by workers at a home construction site in Ash Township, not far from where Bruck was last seen, according to NBC affiliate WNWO. Police said evidence at the scene indicates a homicide, but a cause of death has not yet been released.

The 22-year-old was last seen leaving a Halloween party on October 26th in Newport, Michigan. Witnesses told police she was last seen in a parking lot with an unidentified man.

Nathaniel Bruck, Chelsea's brother posted on the Facebook page 'Help Find Chelsea Bruck' thanking those who helped search for his sister.

Using dental records, authorities identified the body found in a wooded area of Monroe County as Chelsea Bruck, 22.

The skeletal remains discovered in rural Michigan on Friday belong to Chelsea Bruck, the 22-year-old waitress who vanished last year at a Halloween party.

Evidence found at the forested site of Bruck’s body has turned her death into a homicide investigation, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said Saturday night at a press conference.

“This is a puzzle that started out with nothing,” Malone said.

The announcement comes hours after a state autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death, but dental records proved it was Bruck.

Despite a trove of tips, evidence in Bruck’s disappearance was lacking until a piece of cloth discovered earlier this month was determined to be part of the victim’s Poison Ivy costume.

More evidence has been collected, but Malone declined to describe what it entailed for “obvious reasons.”

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. -  Decomposed remains of a woman found at a home construction site in Monroe County's Ash Township have been identified as 22-year-old Chelsea Bruck.

Bruck's body was uncovered Friday by workers trying to free a stuck dump truck.

Deputies said they received confirmation at 4 p.m. Saturday from the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office that the body was that of Bruck. Dental records were used to confirm the remains belonged to Bruck, and investigators Saturday said evidence at the scene indicated a homicide.

"The medical examiner has not completed their autopsy, therefore I cannot give you official case of death at this time," Sheriff Dale Malone said. "In fact, they stated a thorough investigation could take up to a month to complete."

"We notified the family today," said Detective Sgt. Jeff Pauli. "They are taking it as expected. They do ask that everyone give them their privacy during this difficult time. They are very appreciative of the effort of the Sheriff's Office, state police, the FBI, the citizens, the volunteers. It's hard for us to say, several months later, exactly when (Bruck died), we are still trying to figure that out."

CARLETON, Mich. -  Police are investigating whether a body found near Briar Hill Road and East Newburgh Road in Monroe County is a 22-year-old woman who has been missing since October.

Construction workers found the body around 2 p.m. Friday in a wooded area near train tracks in the village of Carleton. Officers from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene.

The construction crew was doing excavation work on a piece for property where a man is planning to build a house. The crew discovered the body while checking on a piece of equipment, police said.

The decomposed body appeared to be in the woods for "months," said Velliquette.

He declined to say whether the body was buried in any way.

No weapon was discovered at the site, he said.

Because of the long period the body was in the woods, the sheriff's office used an anthropologist to help determine the identity, he said.

Two weeks ago, clothing and other items that may be related to Bruck's disappearance were found at an industrial site in Flat Rock, just a few miles from where the body was found Friday.

A body that was discovered on Friday, the 24th of April 2015, at a building construction site  in a rural area, has been identified as Chelsea Bruck, a 22 -year- old student from Maybee who has been missing for six months. She was last seen at a Halloween party last year, according to Dale Malone, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.  A representative of the medical examiner’s office in Wayne county, Ryan Bridges, said that dental records of the body confirmed that it was Chelsea Bruck.

Police have been talking about a homicide ever since April 5, when her Halloween dress  (Poison Ivy) was found at an empty industrial site in Flat Rock, 10 miles from the spot her skeletal remains were discovered. According to Dale Malone, there was evidence both at the scene and on the dress indicating that the girl was murdered close to the place the body was dumped. However, he refused to discuss if there are any suspects at this point.  The cause of death has not been established yet, even if an autopsy was carried out  on Saturday morning. According to officials, the preliminary autopsy was not conclusive enough and more investigations are needed to determine how she died. This can take up to a month. However, it was established that the body had been lying at the construction site for months. That site is only 12 miles away from the place where she was last seen at the Halloween party. According to witnesses, she was spotted in Newport, on October 26, at 3 a.m. dressed in her Halloween costume. She was accompanied by a man and going towards the car park.

Dale Malone said that there are still many more things to determine, even if the police are more than half way through, but they would not stop until they’ve found the people who are guilty for the girl’s death. He also declared that the murderer probably knew the place quite well, taking into account that the body was dumped on a private property. Nevertheless, the property owner who found Chelsea’s body is not a suspect.

Although he would not discuss if suspects have been developed, Sheriff Malone said he was confident that an arrest will be made. So far, several detectives have dedicated countless hours in the investigation that includes a 550-page police report, 200 pages of phone records and hundreds of people interviewed.

“It’s been a long, complex case,” Sheriff Malone said. “We’re not going to stop.”

Even though a cause of death has not been determined, the sheriff said evidence collected at the scene where the body was found indicated Chelsea was a murder victim. Also, evidence was discovered on the Halloween costume found earlier this month in an industrial site near Flat Rock.

“Visually, there was evidence on the clothes,” Sheriff Malone said, declining to identify that evidence.

“I believe the person is familiar with the area,” Sheriff Malone said. “I believe the person is familiar with the railroad tracks.”

The access road off Briar Hill and along the railroad tracks that leads to the 13-acre private property site where the remains were found was built in August. A chain had stretched across the opening but the road was used by workers to fill the area with dirt to prepare the land for a house to be built.

The sheriff said “in all likelihood” Chelsea was killed at or near where the body was located. Her costume was found about 10 miles away.

The mother of Chelsea Bruck said while the loss of her 22-year-old daughter has been painful and unconscionable, she's grateful that her family has some closure and can begin the healing process.

"There is much more good in this world. I said in church Sunday that we are all given a choice, you can choose light or dark," said Bruck's mother, Leanndra Bruck. "I choose light. Some people say how do they laugh? How can we not. Look at this day. We have long beautiful days ahead of us."

Hundreds of people attended the vigil Tuesday night for Bruck at her family's church, St. Joseph Parish in Maybee. They held candles, while some wept as they prayed for Bruck and her family.

Funeral arrangements set for Chelsea Bruck

MAYBEE, Mich. (AP) -- A funeral is planned Saturday for a 22-year-old Maybee woman whose skeletal remains were found in April.

Visitation for Chelsea Bruck is Thursday and Friday at Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe. A funeral Mass is at St. Joseph Parish in Maybee.

Bruck disappeared in October after attending a Halloween party in Newport. Her body was found at a home construction site in Monroe County's Ash Township.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone tells the Monroe News the official cause of death isn't being released and the investigation is ongoing. He says the case is "still very active."

Bruck's disappearance prompted searches in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
