Foul Play Not Ruled out in Disappearance of Texas Mother of Three Bianca Carrasco

Things were not normal in Bianca Carrasco's life in the week prior to her disappearance.

"There are a lot of things happening behind the scenes that are troubling," Jovanna Burney, Bianca's older sister, told Dateline. "And now she's been gone three weeks."

Bianca, 29, was last seen on Sunday, May 1, at her home in San Antonio, Texas. The details of what transpired that night, though, are fuzzy at best.

It was clear things were amiss when Bianca did not show up for work as an oncology nurse on the Monday and Tuesday.

According to a police report, Bianca and her husband had an argument the evening of her disappearance. There are differing stories as to whether Bianca left on foot, or if it was her husband who left, taking their youngest child, heading several hours north to Odessa where he works. Bianca's husband has not yet returned Dateline's request for comment.

".....Bill Cosby is heading to trial on charges he sexually assaulted a woman over a decade ago.

The disgraced comedian, 78, learned the news inside a Norristown, Pennsylvania courtroom on Tuesday after Montgomery County prosecutors spent the morning presenting their case to the judge and laying out why they believe they have enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Cosby decided to waive his right to a formal arraignment after the judge's decision, which would have taken place on July 20.

Cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his mansion in January 2004 and is facing three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

The prosecution decided not to call Cosby's accuser to the stand on Tuesday, instead having Detective Katherine Hart read the affidavit Constand gave when she reported the alleged assault by Cosby.

That decision later led Cosby's lawyer Brian McMonagle to call the proceedings a 'travesty of justice.'

Leaving the courtroom McMonagle said; 'They had 12 years to bring a case, they didn't. And what [the prosecution] presented today was evidence of nothing.

'They had 12 years to bring an accuser to confront Mr. Cosby, they chose not to.

'There was no evidence of a crime here. And the inconsistencies that plagued this investigation from the beginning continue to plague it now. This case should end immediately.'....."

“I live directly behind the hospital with three young children who were completely terrified,” Tolle wrote. “Now they are going to have trouble going back to sleep. I was informed by BGPD that all residents around the area were warned, but everybody I talked to said they were not.”

Lisa Davis lives about a mile away from the hospital and told WTRV that her neighbors were calling each other to make sure everybody was OK.

“A lot of people did not feel safe at all,” she added to the station.

Beech Grove Police Capt. Robert Mercuri said, “We’re sorry people were startled. We hope they understand that the city of Beech Grove was trying to help the people who protect us every day.”

Police added to the station that too much notice about the middle-of-the-night noises may have compromised the exercise, WRTV said, adding that more exercises may be coming this week...."

Lawyers for day care worker back in court seeking to undo murder verdict

ttorneys for a former suburban day care worker found guilty of murder in a child's death appeared in Lake County court Tuesday morning as a judge considers whether to advance their efforts to overturn her conviction.

Judge Daniel Shanes, who oversaw the 2011 trial that ended with Melissa Calusinski being convicted of first-degree murder, did not rule on whether he will allow a hearing on what her lawyers say is new evidence in the case.


Shanes said he has a stack of legal filings "a foot and a half" high to go through before he rules, but he set another hearing for June 13.

Calusinski's attorneys say X-rays discovered in the Lake County coroner's office last year show that the boy who died in 2009 after being in her care — 16-month-old Benjamin Kingan, of Deerfield — passed away as a result of pre-existing head injuries.

"....Nathaniel Kibby pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated felonious sex assault and criminal threatening, and prosecutors asked for a sentence of 45 to 90 years in prison for him.

Kibby, who had pleaded not guilty shortly after his arrest, had been scheduled to go on trial next month on nearly 200 felony charges related to the girl's October 2013 disappearance and the months that followed. But he changed his plea to guilty at a hearing on Thursday.

Before the 35-year-old Kibby could enter his new plea, a prosecutor said Kibby had kidnapped the girl by offering her a ride home from her school and then brandishing a gun when she attempted to get out of his car.

Prosecutor Jane Young said the girl and Kibby didn't know each other and she accepted the ride because she'd worn boots to school and her feet were blistered. Young said when the girl tried to get out of the car in a parking lot Kibby pulled out the gun and threatened to "blow her brains out."

Kibby also pleaded guilty to witness tampering and other offenses. ...."

".....SOLVANG, Calif. (AP) — A young man suspected of abducting a teenage girl in Northern California was killed Thursday after leading sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase and engaging in a shootout, authorities said, while the search for the girl continued.

Fernando Castro, 19, whose car had been the subject of an Amber Alert for 15-year-old Pearl Pinson, exchanged gunfire with deputies at a Santa Barbara County mobile home park more than 300 miles to the south, Solano County Sheriff Thomas Ferrara said.

The missing girl, 15-year-old Pearl Pinson of Vallejo, had still not been found hours after the shootout, Ferrara said. Authorities have been frantically searching for Pinson since a witness reported hearing a girl screaming for help as a man dragged her across a freeway overpass in Vallejo on Wednesday morning....."

Clutched in her right hand is the rose. Weaved in her curly blond hair are lavender flowers. Placed over her heart is a cross made of more lavender. Lying beside her are eucalyptus leaves.

“She’s wearing a long white dress,” said Elissa Davey, the founder of the Garden of Innocence charity that, for two decades, has buried the bodies of unidentified children in California. Davey estimates that the girl died about 145 years ago because the cemetery was active from 1860 to 1890. ...."

Ariz. woman, missing after online date, found slain

TONOPAH, Ariz. -- A missing Arizona woman was found slain in a shallow grave last week, and authorities have arrested a man with whom she went on an online date, reports CBS affiliate KPHO.

25-year-old Angela Russo had been missing since April 19, after reportedly meeting her suspected killer for a date in West Phoenix. Lashawn Johnson, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, was charged with her murder on Sunday, the station reports.

Russo's body was found buried in the desert in Tonopah, about 50 miles west of Phoenix. Her car was reportedly found burned nearby.

Officials: Woman's body found tied to cinder block in pond

EAST COVENTRY TWP., Pa. -- Police are investigating after a woman's body was discovered tied to a cinder block in a popular swimming and fishing hole northwest of Philadelphia, reports CBS Philly.

Around 11:15 a.m. Monday, a passerby reported seeing a body in a pond in East Coventry Township, according to the station. Officials who responded didn't realize the body was tied to a cinder block until they tried to remove it.

Children had been swimming in the pond Sunday afternoon, so the body had been deposited sometime after that, the district attorney's office said.

Remains of Missing 15-Year-Old Texas Girl Found Under Sink in Abandoned Apartment

The body of a missing 15-year-old girl has been recovered from an abandoned apartment building in South Houston, Texas, – and a 15-year-old boy stands accused of her murder, PEOPLE has learned.

According to Texas EquuSearch, a group of trained volunteers that travel the nation to assist in missing persons cases, the remains of Karen Perez were found Monday night, concealed beneath a sink in a deserted residential complex.

A police spokesman tells PEOPLE that a teenage boy has been detained in connection with Perez's slaying, but investigators are not releasing the his name because he is a juvenile.

Perez went missing May 27 after leaving South Houston High School with her ex-boyfriend and another male, the spokesman explains.

That school is located directly across the street from the the abandoned complex where Texas EquuSearch volunteers discovered her corpse late Monday.

Perez can be seen in surveillance video walking into a store with the two males, police note. They would not comment on whether either of the two men in the video was the 15-year-old who is charged with Perez's murder.

Ali died Friday at a Phoenix-area hospital, where he had spent the past few days being treated for respiratory complications, a family spokesman confirmed to NBC News. He was 74.

Stanford swimmer gets jailed only 6 months for raping unconscious woman

PALO ALTO, Calif. — A six-month jail term for a former Stanford University swimmer convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on campus after both attended a fraternity party is being decried as a slap on the wrist.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky sentenced 20-year-old Brock Turner to six months in county jail and three years’ probation after the woman who was assaulted read the court an emotional statement that has gone viral. Turner must also complete a sex offender management program and register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life.

In her statement, the woman described how the attack left her emotionally scarred.

“My independence, natural joy, gentleness, and steady lifestyle I had been enjoying became distorted beyond recognition. I became closed off, angry, self-deprecating, tired, irritable, empty,” she said

‘You took away my worth’: A sexual assault victim’s powerful message to her Stanford attacker

She’s known in local newspapers as 23-year-old “Emily Doe” — a pseudonym to protect her privacy amid an emotional court battle in which former Stanford University varsity swimmer Brock Allen Turner was found guilty for her sexual assault.

The case came to a close Thursday when the judge sentenced Turner to six months in county jail and then probation, and ordered him to register as a sex offender over three sexual assault convictions: assault with the intent to commit rape, sexual penetration with a foreign object of an intoxicated person and sexual penetration with a foreign object of an unconscious person, according to Palo Alto Online.

The newspaper reported that when handing down Turner’s sentence, the judge in the case said he understood the “devastation” the victim suffered, but he feared imprisonment would have a “severe” impact on Turner.

Then the victim stood in the packed courtroom in Palo Alto and delivered what Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen called “the most eloquent, powerful and compelling piece of victim advocacy that I’ve seen in my 20 years as a prosecutor,” according to Palo Alto Online.

A former Stanford University swimmer convicted of rape was sentenced Thursday to six months in county jail in a ruling decried as a slap on the wrist.

A jury found Brock Turner, 20, guilty in March on felony charges of assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person.

Investigators said two witnesses caught Turner, a one-time All-American, sexually assaulting the unresponsive woman behind a dumpster on the Stanford campus in January 2015.

His victim recounted the assault in harrowing testimony Thursday, and prosecutors asked for a sentence of six years in state prison. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen slammed the lighter jail term.

“The punishment does not fit the crime,” Rosen said in a statement. “The predatory offender has failed to take responsibility, failed to show remorse and failed to tell the truth. The sentence does not factor in the true seriousness of this sexual assault, or the victim’s ongoing trauma. Campus rape is no different than off-campus rape. Rape is rape. And I will prosecute it as such.”

Yet Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky said in handing down the sentence that Turner had no prior criminal history, The San Jose Mercury News reported. Turner, whose character was praised in letters to the judge, plans to start a course for college students on binge drinking culture, and both he and his victim were drunk the night of Jan. 18, 2015, Persky said.

Public outrage over the lenient sentencing of a star Stanford swimmer convicted of sexual assault has been compounded by a controversial letter written by the athlete’s father.

Brock Turner was convicted in March of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at a fraternity party in January 2015 at the elite university. He faced up to 14 years in prison. Prosecutors asked for six.

Instead, Turner received only six months in jail and three years of probation after a judge worried that a stiffer sentence would have a “severe impact” on the 20-year-old.

That fury intensified Sunday as critics slammed a letter written by Turner’s father as oblivious, “tone-deaf” and “impossibly offensive.”

“His life will never be the one that he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieve,” Dan A. Turner wrote in a letter arguing that his son should receive probation, not jail time. “That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.”

“He will never be his happy go lucky self with that easy going personality and welcoming smile,” the letter says, noting that the former Olympic hopeful is now a registered sex offender.

Brock Allen Turner was convicted of three counts of sexual assault in March, according to The Guardian. Two grad students reportedly saw him “thrusting” on top of an unconscious woman behind a dumpster outside a fraternity party in January 2015. The two students said they were bicycling past when they saw the incident, and intervened. The students then held Turner until police arrived.

Turner, who competed at the 2012 Olympic trials, was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated woman, sexually penetrating an intoxicated person with a foreign object, and sexually penetrating an unconscious person with a foreign object.

A Connecticut teen who stabbed a classmate to death because she rejected his junior prom invitation was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Christopher Plaskon, 19, was sentenced Monday in Milford Superior Court.

Plaskon's attorney, Edward Gavin, speaking to reporters following the sentencing, called the situation "a senseless tragedy that was driven here by Christopher's psychosis."

Plaskon initially pleaded not guilty to attacking 16-year-old Maren Sanchez — but later changed his plea to no contest.

The attack occurred on April 25, 2014 in the hallway of Jonathan Law High School. Plaskon cut his victim's throat and body until school staffers intervened.

Sanchez, a National Honor Society member, was involved in drama and other school activities. She planned on attending the dance with her new boyfriend.

Under a juvenile justice law passed last year, Plaskon could be parole-eligible after serving 60% of his sentence, or 15 years. He's credited with serving two years of his sentence so far.

Florida Police Searching for Missing Mother and Daughter After Girl's Father Found with Self-Inflicted Stab Wounds

Police in Doral, Florida, are looking for a 43-year-old woman and her 9-year-old daughter, who've been missing for more than a week, PEOPLE confirms.

On Friday, officers found the girl's distraught father Gustavo Castano sitting in a truck parked outside the same Miami-area Home Depot where he told investigators he'd allegedly dropped Liliana Moreno, 43, and her 9-year-old daughter, Daniela, off on the morning on May 30.

Police claim Castano's body was riddled with self-inflicted knife wounds. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to investigators.

Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearances of the woman and her daughter and no charges have been filed in the case, a police spokeswoman tells PEOPLE.

Police have recovered Moreno's purse, wallet and car, which they found at her Doral apartment.

Castano is considered a person of interest in this missing persons case, the spokeswoman confirms.

Deputies say the man — now identified as Craig Bonello — scoped out the 13-year-old girl as she shopped with her mom inside a Dollar General Store, then grabbed her and tried to make a run for it.

Anton Yelchin, known for roles in “Star Trek” and “Alpha Dog,” died early Sunday morning in a freak accident, a spokeswoman confirmed to Variety. He was 27.

“Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning,” said a statement from his representative. “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

The LAPD said he was pinned by his own car at his Studio City home. Friends apparently became concerned when Yelchin did not show up for a band performance. They found him at his home pinned between his car and a brick mailbox pillar.

“It appears he had exited his car and was behind it when the vehicle rolled down a steep driveway,” the LAPD said in a statement.

Police reportedly told TMZ that the engine was still running when he was found, and that his car was in neutral. It’s not clear why he got out of his car with the engine running.

Gene Wilder, dead

"....LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gene Wilder, the frizzy-haired actor who brought his deft comedic touch to such unforgettable roles as the neurotic accountant in "The Producers" and the deranged animator of "Young Frankenstein," has died. He was 83.

Wilder's nephew said Monday that the actor and writer died late Sunday at his home in Stamford, Connecticut, from complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Jordan Walker-Pearlman said in a statement that Wilder was diagnosed with the disease three years ago, but kept the condition private so as not to disappoint fans.

"He simply couldn't bear the idea of one less smile in the world," Walker-Pearlman said....."
