STILLWATER, Minn. (KMSP) - Police in Stillwater, Minnesota are still asking for help in the search for a missing 24-year-old woman. Abbey Russell left her home on the 1700 block of North Broadway (Highway 95) in Stillwater on foot early Saturday morning, April 25.

Her family is from Fall Creek, Wisconsin. She just moved to Minnesota April 4 and was looking to start anew close to friends and other family, moving in with a friend that she worked with in Eau Claire. After work on Friday, she had a few drinks with her Pub 112 coworkers. Just before she was last seen, she was on the phone with a close friend in Wisconsin. Her friend asked Abbey to hang on, that she'd call her right back. Police said right after the call is when she left on foot, leaving her purse, car and phone behind.

“We have text messages that indicate that she didn't want to go out that night because she had to be at work at 9 a.m. and was going to work a double,” Stillwater police Sgt. Jeff Stender said. “Roommate has been completely cooperative and forthcoming and there's no indication of foul play."

Description

Abbey is described as 5-foot-7, 150 pounds with green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair.

She has a large tattoo of flowers and feathers that wraps around her upper right arm and down to her elbow. She also has a tattoo of a single black flower on her left forearm and written words under he left armpit. Abbey has a pierced nose and pierced ears.

Police searching for missing Fall Creek grad in Stillwater, Minnesota (Video)

Stillwater (WQOW) - The Fall Creek graduate was at one time, a UW-Eau Claire student and recently moved to the Stillwater area.
Abbey's family tells News 18 they are thankful for the outpouring of support from the community but say the search isn't over until Abbey comes home.

A Saturday morning disappearance has lead family and friends of 24-year-old Abbey Russell to the shores of the St. Croix River.

Ashley Marg, Abbey's sister, said, the family is concerned about her sister's whereabouts. "We're worried and we just want her to come home, and we just appreciate everyone's help."

Chief John Gannaway, with the Stillwater Police Department, said his department and area agencies combed the waters Monday afternoon after a guided tip from search dogs. "Yesterday, we had some search and rescue dogs and the dogs alerted to the St. Croix River almost due east of her residence."

It's a search that law enforcement officers say is unusual since Russell left everything behind, including her cell phone. Chief Gannaway said, "A lot of times if they have their cell phone, you can ping the location of the cell phone. If they use credit cards, you can do a search on credit cards. A GPS in a car, anything, we don't have any of those options available to us right now."

St. Croix search turns up no sign of missing Stillwater woman

A sonar search Monday afternoon of the St. Croix River near the Stillwater Marina turned up no sign of Abbey Russell, a 24-year-old Stillwater woman who has been missing since early Saturday.

The area was searched after bloodhounds showed "moderate interest" in it, said Sgt. Jeff Stender of the Stillwater Police Department. Though the lead was not promising they decided to search the area with side-scanning sonar, which provides a relatively clear picture underwater, so the area could be ruled out if the search proves fruitless.

Going forward the search will focus on following leads coming in to the tipline, 651-351-4945.

"We've conducted very extensive searches and we don't have anywhere else to go," Stender said.

In the middle of the night, Minnesota 24-year-old vanishes

Investigators told Pioneer Press the 24-year-old, originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, went out with friends Friday night and returned home around 8:00pm. Sergeant Jeff Stender of the Stillwater Police Department said Russell's friends texted her asking her to come out later that evening, but she told them she was headed for bed because she had to work a double shift the next morning beginning at 9:00.

Several hours later, Russell's roommate told police she woke up to Russell's phone ringing and her roommate gone.

"It's very, very strange, and we're very worried," Ken Russell, Abbey's father, told Pioneer Press. "We are very concerned. We're hoping to hear from her very soon. We're going to continue to look and continue to search and ask for everybody's

Stillwater woman's disappearance out of character, family says

TILLWATER, Minn. - After Abbey Russell wrapped up her serving shift at Pub 112 in downtown Stillwater about 5 p.m. Friday, she went out with friends and then headed home.

Russell, 24, who lived north of downtown Stillwater, stepped outside her house about midnight and hasn't been seen or heard from since, said her father, Ken Russell, of Fall Creek, Wis.

Ken Russell said it is out of character for his daughter not to be in touch.

"It's very, very strange, and we're very worried," Ken Russell said. "We are very concerned. We're hoping to hear from her very soon. We're going to continue to look and continue to search and ask for everybody's prayers."

Ken Russell said he and wife, Denice, called police about 2 a.m. Saturday to report their daughter's disappearance.

Abbey Russell, who is originally from Fall Creek, Wis., near Eau Claire, moved to Stillwater a few weeks ago from Pensacola, Fla., he said. She graduated from Fall Creek High School in 2009.

'Nothing is off-limits' in search for Abbey Russell

STILLWATER, Minn. (KMSP) - Abbey Russell's sister insists her family will never stop looking for the 24-year old until they know what happened.

“We're open to anything and everything. Nothing is off-limits,” Ashley Marg said. “We're searching water, ground, everything we can.”

Russell was last seen and heard from late Friday night into early Saturday morning, April 25, when she left the house she was sharing with a friend north of historic downtown Stillwater, Minn. She apparently left on foot, leaving behind a purse, car, phone and beloved dog.

Investigators have said there's no evidence that foul play was involved, and family and friends are begging those across Stillwater for help in the search efforts.

“We just want to make sure everyone is checking around their houses, checking boats, campers, everything around their yards,” said Nancy Rosentrater, Russell's aunt. “Please look around.”

Police now say they will focus the investigation on meticulously piecing together the 24 hours before the young woman disappeared, hoping to determine a fresh targeted search area.

Body of Missing 24-Year-Old Abbey Russell Found in St. Croix River

A week-long search for the body of missing 24-year-old Abbey Russell came to a sad end Saturday when her body was discovered in the St. Croix River.

Russell had drinks with some friends after work on April 24. She went home around 8 p.m. because she was scheduled to work a double shift at Pub 112, a restaurant in downtown Stillwater, the next day.

Later that night, around midnight, Russell's roommate in their apartment just north of downtown Stillwater heard Russell's phone ring repeatedly. When the roommate walked into Russell's room to turn it off she discovered Russell was missing.

After an extensive search of the St. Croix riverfront her body was found on Saturday by someone who was fishing the river, according to the Star Tribune. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner confirmed the body was Russell's on Sunday.

The Washington County Sheriff is handling the investigation and it does not suspect foul play. It deferred to a statement sent out yesterday and is waiting for a toxicology report from the medical examiner.

Drowning ruled as cause of death for Abbey Russell

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner has identified fresh water drowning as the cause of death for Abbey Kae Russell, the 24-year-old female from Stillwater who was reported missing April 25.

After a week-long search, Russell’s body was pulled from the St. Croix River May 2. The medical examiner delayed releasing its report pending toxicology results.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s office, the results showed that her blood alcohol content was 0.336 grams per deciliter, which is more than four times the legal limit for driving a motor vehicle. No drugs were found in her system.
