PENDLETON — Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said there were “no major breaks” Sunday in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 1-year-old Leaona Wright.
For the second consecutive day, deputies armed with hatchets and machetes scoured the woods surrounding the apartments on Cherry Street where the child was last seen. Leaona was reported missing from the Edgewood Square complex in a 911 call at 9:47 a.m. Sunday.
“We just wanted to make sure that we came back and covered the area again,” Skipper said. “We didn’t find anything.”
“I always have hopes that we are going to find a victim alive so that is my continued hope through the rest of the night until we find something different,” Skipper said. But, he added, “If the child is out in the climate and the environment, the chances of them being alive are slim.”

Search called off; toddler still missing

Leaona Wright
More than 200 people combed the woods around a Pendleton apartment complex Saturday in search for a 1-year-old girl wearing a white nightie.
Hours later, the search for Leaona Wright was called off.
"We have covered the area as best we can tell, (but) we still haven't located the child," said Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper.
Authorities said Leaona may have wandered away from the apartment on 950 Cherry St. sometime between late Friday and early Saturday.
Another child is believed to have unlocked the front door and left it open while the mother's boyfriend was watching them, Skipper said.
He said multiple K-9 units, Sheriff's Office helicopters and search crews from Pickens and Oconee counties assisted with the search, concentrating within a 3/4-mile radius.
A reverse 911 message was also sent out to residents who lived within two miles, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The search was suspended shortly before 4 p.m.
Skipper said deputies are continuing to interview people and are following up on leads.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

PENDLETON, SC (FOX Carolina) - Numerous law enforcement agencies and local search and rescue teams have conducted six organized ground searches for 1-year-old Leaona Cheyanne Wright in the Pendleton area over a four-day span, but the baby has not been found.
On Tuesday, Anderson County deputies announced a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the child's safe return.
Deputies began searching for Leaona in a two-mile radius of Cherry Street on June 6 after she was reported missing around 10 a.m. She is described as a black female, 24" tall and weighing 29 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white sleeper t-shirt.
Lt. Josh Payne said witnesses told deputies an unsecured door to the family's residence was left open by a 3-year-old child and Leaona may have crawled away. According to the incident report, Leaona's mother and her boyfriend woke up to find the front door of the apartment open and the child missing. Apartment building A of Edgewood Square Apartments was taped off on Saturday.
FOX Carolina spoke with Leaona's grandmother mother Julia Sullivan on Monday who said her daughter had just started walking about two weeks ago.

Reported missing around 10am. Little one's get up early so it takes these people till 10am to look for this poor baby girl and then decide to call 911. (Once again, I'm calling BS.)
In my post above I said (remember this)? So now the "white nighty" has turned into a "white sleeper t-shirt". (No not buying it.)
My bold
1. 3 year old UNLOCKS the door and the baby CRAWLS OUT and lo and behold she started walking 2 WEEKS AGO (so I guess she can crawl and toddle right out of the house with her 3 year old sibling helping by unlocking and leaving the door open)...EYEROLL. (I'm telling you, LIES, all lies. Boiling mad!)

New information released in missing baby case
Leona wright missing since Saturday
UPDATED 3:36 PM EDT Jun 11, 2015
By Carla Field, Digital Managing Editor
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. —Deputies say they have been given inconsistent information in the investigation into the disappearance of 1-year-old Leaona Wright.
Sheriff’s investigators say they believed early on that the reported circumstances of the baby's disappearance were not accurate.
Lt. Sheila Cole said inconsistencies in stories from Leaona's mother, Kiara Sullivan, and her boyfriend, Travis Jones, led them to the new revelations.
To hear an interview with the baby's mother in which she says the 1-year-old was "never there," click here.
Since then, they have tried to piece together an accurate picture. Investigators say they now know that the baby's 3-year-old sibling did not open the front door and allow Leaona to crawl outside, as was originally reported to deputies.
Investigators also believe Leaona was not there when her mother arrived home at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
