Most of you that read my articles know about a case out of Palatka, Florida involving the disappearance of a little 5 year old girl, HaLeigh Cummings. HaLeigh’s father’s then girlfriend, Misty Croslin claims she woke up and saw that the back door of the house was open and found that HaLeigh was gone.

Finding HaLeigh became an obsession to most of us as the investigation went on of her disappearance. Although I never met her, I felt so close to her. I wanted this child to be found as much as her family did but unfortunately she still hasn’t been found.

She disappeared on February 10, 2009. She has never been found. Lots of people think she will never be found saying that she is in heaven right now. Family members have not given up on the hope that she is still alive out there trying to make her way home.

Similarities between Lonzie Barton, Haleigh Cumming’s cases

"...Haleigh Cummings and Lonzie Barton are distant cousins, and both disappeared in the middle of the night and their caregivers both told police they didn't know what happened to them.

When Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her Satsuma home in 2009, her father's girlfriend was watching her. Misty Croslin told police she went to sleep with Haleigh and when Croslin woke up, the child was gone.

When Lonzie disappeared, his mother's boyfriend, Ruben Ebron, who remains the only suspect in the 21 month old’s disappearance told police the child was kidnapped...."

"....Ebron’s trial is scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection. Prosecutors hope testimony from Lonzie's mother will lead to a different outcome than Haleigh’s. She is expected to testify in court Friday morning.

Haleigh and Lonzie remain the only two unsolved Amber Alerts in northeast Florida..."

Misty Croslin, who reported 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings missing 7 years ago, appeals drug sentence

"....Arguing she was misled by her attorney, tricked by a friend and dazed by drugs prescribed to fight depression and stress, the woman at the center of the 2009 case of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings is appealing her conviction on drug charges and a 25-year sentence in St. Johns County.

Misty Croslin, now 24, pleaded no contest in St. Johns and Putnam counties to a total of eight prescription drug trafficking charges.

Croslin, who was 17 and living with Haleigh’s father in Putnam County when Haleigh disappeared seven years ago from a Satsuma mobile home, is appearing in a St. Johns County court Tuesday to ask that the drug sentence there be lifted.

Haleigh was never found, and Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said he believes the girl is dead.

The drug cases are unrelated to the disappearance that brought national and international attention to the south Putnam community.

In late 2010 Croslin was sentenced in St. Johns to 25 years in prison under mandatory guidelines....."

Following is a link containing a write-up and a short video.  There has been no ruling yet.  Both the prosecution and the defense have a month to submit a “Proposed Order” to the court.  Then the judges will make their decision.  So, on April 8th.

I think she is where she belongs.  My opinion only, of course.

"...Croslin, whose 25-year sentence was the longest of any in the cases, said Tuesday in court she believed from attorney Robert Fields that she would only be sentenced to six years in prison as a youthful offender, a time that would be over by the end of this year.

“He never explained to me that the judge had to give that to me,” she told Circuit Judges J. Michael Traynor and Patti Christensen of the 25-year term.

Croslin said she was never promised the lighter sentence but expected it would happen.

“He didn’t say, ‘I promise,’” she said of Fields. “He said, ‘You are going to get six years.’”..."
