WESTON — Vihaan Pullamsett, an 18-month-old boy from Tampa, was reported missing about 4 p.m. Sunday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
Bloodhounds, helicopters and divers searched near the 400 block of Lakeview Drive for more than five hours Sunday night, said Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
Deputies planned to continue searching overnight, following up on an earlier door-to-door search in which they asked residents whether they had seen Vihaan with a search of residents' apartments.
A dive team suspended activities at 9:30 p.m. and is scheduled to resume Monday morning.
Vihaan and his family were visiting relatives at the Racquet Club Apartments, officials said. Several people at the scene said the Pullamsetts were preparing to leave when Vihaan disappeared.

Police called out "Vihaan" from their cruisers and residents were also shouting out the name as they check through greenery surrounding the complex. Israel said that authorities have "left no stone unturned" and have searched extensively, including with divers in the murky canals that frame the complex.
"Kids can get into bushes, any small spot," a deputy told the searchers. Vihaan was wearing an "orange and blue-striped shirt and camouflage shorts," the deputy said.
As a BSO helicopter criss-crossed the area overhead, shining a high-intensity light on the ground, numerous motorists also joined in the frantic search for Vihaan, driving at walking pace and scanning the bushes and sidewalks for any sign of movement.
Authorities ask anyone who has seen him — or has information — to call the Broward Sheriff's Office at 954-764-4357 or 911 or the state missing persons hotline at 888-356-4774.

An 18-month-old boy was reported missing from a Weston home Sunday, setting off a search by air, land and water, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday night, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said that the area being surrounded by bodies of water was a concern and that deputies would “dive all night if we have to.”
“We won’t stop until we hopefully locate this young boy,” he said.
By 9:45 p.m., deputies had switched their attention from the canal to going door-to-door asking neighbors for permission to search each unit.
BSO received a call at about 4 p.m. that the boy — identified as Vihaan Pullamsetti — had gone missing from a relative’s apartment at the Racquet Club Apartments, 417 Lakeview Dr.

Israel said the boy’s parents — Kamala Gavara and Ravi Pullamsetti, who are from Tampa and were visiting for Halloween — told detectives that he often napped in the late afternoon. The family searched for about 20 minutes before calling BSO.
“Like any family, they began frantically looking for their young son,” he said.

WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are hoping the public will help them locate an 18-month-old boy who went missing from his Weston home, Sunday afternoon.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, they received a call just after 4 p.m. alerting them that little Vihaan Pullamsetti had vanished from his residence at the Racket Club apartment complex, along the 400 block of Lakeview Drive.
The boy's family, who is visiting from Tampa, said Vihaan went missing at around 3:45 p.m. After searching for 15 minutes to no avail, they called 911.

The boy's family told 7News he had just come home from trick-or-treating with family and friends.
Flashlight in hand, the boy's father, Ravi Pullamsetti, scoured the complex for hours. Dozens of neighbors also helped him in the search. "It's heartbreaking . I cannot imagine. He is his age," said Eric Martinez as he held his own son.

One major challenge, authorities said, is the canal near the apartment. "We have about five divers out here, and we'll dive all night if we have to," said Israel. "That's the most challenging thing right now. We're scared of the water."
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a missing child alert. Vihaan was last seen wearing an orange and blue striped shirt, camouflage shorts, and black and blue checkered shoes. If you see him, call 911.

Missing Tampa Toddler Found Dead in Weston Canal: BSO
Eighteen-month-old Vihaan Pullamsetti disappeared while visiting relatives and was found dead less than 24 hours later, authorities said.
A Tampa toddler reported missing from a relative's home in Weston has been found dead in a canal, according to Broward Sheriff's Office deputies.
BSO Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed the tragic development in a press conference just before 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Deputies said a resident of the Racquet Club Apartments spotted a body in floating in a canal behind the complex around 8:30 a.m. BSO dive teams pulled the body from the water and later confirmed it was that of the missing toddler.
~Snipped~
Vihaan's tearful mother, Kamala Gavara, told NBC 6 that just this week, her son was learning how to open and close doors on his own. The family believes that the toddler may have opened a door of the first-floor apartment and wandered out on his own.
A family spokesman for the Pullamsetti family thanked the media and the community for their efforts in assisting in the search for Vihaan. It's not yet clear how the boy died.
