Please take the time to go to YouTube and post a comment under the beautiful tribute Piper did for Emma. Let Emma know you are thinking of her!
It is titled, "Emma Thompson Tribute". As of now, it is the only video tribute to Emma on YouTube or the Internet.
Maybe some other talented folks will come forward and do a tribute video to Emma. If I knew how, I would have done a video for Emma long ago.
Here is the Link . . . .if you would be so kind and post a comment!

Thank you Ann, you are too kind.
I've been watching all of the video and reading the links you posted into the wee hours this morning. Do you ever sleep?
Emma was buried in her little flower girl dress, I had no idea. When her aunt and uncle posted earlier, she stated Emma was to be in their wedding two weeks after Emma died.

Although I am not real familiar with Emma's case, the little that I do know is heartbreaking.
My heart goes out to Emma's family as they have to live with the details of how this child's life was taken in a most horrific manner, as well as the loss of their daughter, sister, cousin.
I pray someday the family can have peace,

I am new to this board too but have been following this horrific case since it broke last year. There are so many cases just like this one, where mothers let these monsters into their homes, their beds and their unwitting children's lives. This has to stop. Women have to learn that no man is often better than any man.
I am glad the jury did the right thing, sending this vermin where he belongs so no more innocents can be harmed by him.
The tribute video to Emma is touching. What a beautiful little girl. I don't have any children myself, but if I had a precious little girl like that, I would like to think I would take better care of her.
Rest in peace, sweetest Emma. The monster cannot hurt you anymore.

Also, I just have to mention with regard to mothers choosing these dangerous men and putting them in charge of their children, the first instance I heard of this was the sad, sad case of Samantha Muchwicz, who was brutally murdered while in the care of her mother's boyfriend, Ian Clark. Clark showed the same insolence and arrogance during his trial that Coe did. This is a disturbing trend and it really does need to stop.

Good morning, Amanda - Warrior for Emma! Yes, indeed you are a warrior for Emma and have been from the night of 6-27-10 as was disclosed in testimony during Lucas Coe's trial.warriorforemma wrote:Dearest Ann,
Thank you for seeking justice for Emma throughout the last 15 months! It was so nice to sit with you at the trial on and off and meet you face to face! I loved Emma so very much and will miss her everyday! Thank you for giving me the words of encouragement that I could not find inside myself! Emma was a wonderful niece, a happy child until my sister allowed Coe inside their home! My life as well as the Thompson's lives have been turned upside down for the last 15 months! I was so happy when they read the sentence yesterday I cried! It is hard to believe it is finally over. I only wish Abbey's sentence could have been as powerful as Coe's. Life will continue but their will always be a void in mine and my husband's hearts for Emma! I want you to know you constantly thanked me for
seeking justice for Emma, just because I am a product of the Young family and are related to Margie and Abbey by blood doesn't say who I am as a person! I am first and foremost a mother a wife and an aunt! I loved Emma and her sisters as much as I loved my own daughter! I will never miss a parole hearing for Abigail Young! I will fight for her to be locked away for the entire short 20 year sentence! In my mind 20 years will never be long enough for what she did to Emma! As parents we are to be held accountable for our actions! The loss of my family throughout this process will never compare to the loss of Emma or her sisters for a year! Thank you again Ann for lifting me up please keep in touch with me! Hugs- Amanda Mathews (Emma's Aunt Am)
A huge warm welcome to Reality Chatter, Amanda! We are very delighted that you took the time to join Reality Chatter and comment here. You will find you have supporters here for your efforts in seeking justice for your loving niece, Emma!
Amanda, it was a pleasure to have met you and visited with you off and on! Emma was so fortunate to have a loving aunt like you, an uncle like your husband and a first cousin like your daughter.
Your dedication to seeking justice for Emma, including your cooperation with Law Enforcement and the District Attorney's Office (Prosecutors for the State of Texas) in spite of losing your mother and other family members, is commendable and admirable.
You should be so very proud that you did the right thing from the get go in spite of being shunned by other family members. You knew Emma was murdered and you supported your loving niece, Emma, over hopping on board with your mother, Margie Routt Young, in her efforts to support her daughter and your sister, Abigail Young! Emma is smiling down from Heaven at you and sending special hugs and kisses to her Aunt Am! At least there are 3 people on the maternal side of the family that openly supported justice for Emma Thompson . . . . . you, your husband and your precious daughter! This is from Emma to you and your family:
The picture you so kindly provided, the District Attorney's Prosecutors, of Emma, Julia and Laura with your daughter (don't know if you want me to mention her name on this Comment Board; Julia and Laura have already been mentioned in the media) is priceless. I imagine it is one of many photos that you have and will cherish forever . . . just like you will cherish Emma's memory forever in your heart!
It is the picture of them on Christmas day with their beautiful pink robes. It is the picture Colleen and Tina presented into evidence and left on the overhead projector for a very long time! All four of them were smiling and so happy together! I can only imagine how devastated Emma's murder has been on these three small children!
Lucas Coe really did wreck many, many lives by his animalistic brutality! But . . . he got the sentence he deserves (actually he deserves death) and the "bubbas" in prison are waiting for him. They will take care of Coe for what he did to Emma. Most of the inmates do not like baby killers! So they will remind Coe of what he did to Emma! The best is yet to come for Coe!
Amanda, you are related to Margie Routt Young and Abigail Young by blood and that is where it ends! You are the complete opposite of them! Thank God Emma had you . . . .her Aunt Am to fight the fight for her!
Like Colleen Barnett said in Closing Arguments . . . .her small little voice is speaking out! And the jury saw and heard the evidence and they heard Emma's little voice, too . . . they did the right thing and found Coe guilty and then in the Punishment Phase, based on evidence presented, they put Coe away for Life without Parole. What an awesome jury who were so attentive during Coe's entire trial! They had a difficult job to do and they did it . . . . justice for precious Emma!
During the Victim's Impact Statements some of the jurors cried. They cried for Emma and for Emma's family who loved her . . . .Daddy Ben Thompson, Grandpa Jim and Grandma Laurie Thompson, and Aunt Am Matthews and the other family members who loved and cared for Emma!
Amanda, I am honored to have you for a friend! We will keep in touch. I would like to give you a plant from my wildlife habitat to plant in memory of Emma for your butterfly garden you are creating at your home. It will also attract hummingbirds! How delighted Emma would be if she could be at your home and see all of the beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds! But . . . .Emma can see it from Heaven
For you, dear Amanda . . . . .

Piper Today at 8:35 am
~~~~~~~~
Yes, Piper, Emma was suppose to be in her Uncle's wedding. He is in the military service. Laurie Thompson spoke about this.
I am going to go and find the Victim's Impact Statement video on behalf of Emma that was done at Abigail Young's trial. It was posted by Snaz or J4A up-thread.
Be back soon with the Video!
If I make a comment on the Video, it should bring it forward. If not, I'll be hollering for help!
I notice there are many new members posting here . . . . on Emma's thread.
A huge, warm welcome to all of you! It is so nice of all of you to care enough about Emma to make a comment.
So many failed Emma prior to death and some of the most important people in her little, short, innocent life failed her after death and continue to fail her.
I just know Emma would be so delighted that so many strangers, including me, cared enough about her to take the time to show we care.
Rest in peace . . . . sweet, precious Emma! Justice has been legally served.
We all know Coe will get justice from his fellow inmates in the "Big House" at TDC!
For Emma . . . .
For Lucas Coe from his soon to be fellow inmates:
Okay, I have wasted enough of my valuable time on scumbag, monster Coe!
Yes, the inmates will be waiting for Coe. That seems to be the consensus on many comment boards such as the Houston Chronicle, the local TV stations (Houston and surrounding area) and some of the blogs!
And Emma will be smiling down from Heaven . . . .
Dear Matt and Alicia:shccuervo wrote:Dear Ann,
My husband and I have been following your updates on reality chatter throughout Lucas Coe’s trial. As Emma’s aunt and uncle, we cannot thank you enough on behalf of the entire Thompson family for your dedication to the pursuit of Justice for Emma.
In my mother-in-law’s (Laurie Thompson’s) victim impact statement at Abigail Young's trial, she mentioned that Emma’s tragic death came only two weeks before she was to be a flower girl in her uncle’s wedding. My husband and I are that aunt and uncle, and due to military obligations, we were unable to be in Houston for the trial as we are stationed out of state.
We feel so fortunate to have been able to receive such detailed updates throughout Lucas Coe’s trial, and we cannot adequately express in words our appreciation for your undying devotion to Justice for our sweet Emma Catherine Grace. We are so glad that Mr. Coe will now spend the rest of his waking moments in prison without the chance of parole. Although nothing can bring back our precious niece, it is comforting to know that no other children have to suffer through what Emma did at the hands of this monster.
May God bless you,
Matt & Alicia Thompson
Thank you for taking the time to join Reality Chatter and express your thanks and appreciation to me.
However, you would not know this but I am very grateful and appreciative to FystyAngel, Reality Chatter's owner; Snaz, Administrator of this site, who made Emma's thread come alive by posting pictures and videos; and Justice4All, Administrator of this site, who has posted many pictures and videos.
Also, Piper, who made a beautiful "Tribute to Emma" video, posted it on YouTube and Reality Chatter in memory of Emma!
Emma did not have one tribute or in memory video on YouTube or elsewhere but Piper took care of that. I am hoping others who have the skill and talent will make a tribute or in memory video for Emma Thompson. Maybe precious little Emma could have as many videos as the world famous Emma Thompson has . . . or come close to it!
Also, the awesome members of Reality Chatter have supported justice for Emma! Without all of these great folks, Emma's thread would have flopped and it would have been another post death failure for Emma. So . . .I send out special thanks to all of the aforementioned.
But . . . as you can see, Emma's thread is awesome. There are so many who care about Emma although we did not know her.
Emma captured my heart from the moment I heard of her tragic death via an article in the Houston Chronicle who broke the story of Emma's tragic, brutal death! When I saw a picture of Emma in the media, my heart ached and I cried for Emma. Immediately I was determined I would do whatever I could to keep Emma's name out there locally (Washington County and the Brazos Valley) and keep the focus on the horrific, brutal death sweet, precious, little Emma endured at the hands of a mother, Abigail Young, who failed to protect her and her boyfriend, Lucas Coe, who killed Emma as a result of his sick, sexual desires for an innocent barely four year old baby!
I had the privilege and honor of meeting Jim and Laurie Thompson, Ben Thompson, Sam Thompson and other Thompson family members (sorry, I can not remember the names). Jim was at the trial everyday in the first pew, along with other family members who did not have to testify, and were able to observe the trial.
Alicia, you are a very lucky lady to have married into such a fine family! I don't know anything about your family but I imagine Matt is pleased that he married into your family.
The Thompson family are fine people with tremendous class! Emma was so lucky to have such a nice, loving paternal family! It must have been heart-breaking for all of you to have to come to a funeral and bury Emma instead of seeing beautiful Emma walk down the aisle at your wedding dropping petals as your Flower Girl. I understand Emma was very excited about being in your wedding.
But . . . Lucas Coe brutally and savagely took all of that away from Emma. Even though a wedding is a joyous occasion, I am sure your hearts were filled with sadness for Emma's horrific death on your wedding day.
Alicia, in the Victim Impact Statement on behalf of Emma Thompson, Laurie mentioned if someone would like to do something in memory of Emma, she suggests a direct donation to St. Jude's and she explained the wonderful work they do. Laurie even asked the Defense Attorneys to make a contribution to St. Jude's in memory of Emma Thompson!
There are people in Washington County that would like to do something in memory of Emma. I will get the word out about St. Jude's but would you please provide me with the info, i.e., the complete name of St. Jude's, the wonderful work they do as explained by Laurie, and the address where donations can be mailed in memory of Emma Thompson. Also, if there is an account number or a special designation, please include the info.
There may be people that comment here or read the Reality Chatter that might be interested in making a donation to St. Jude's in memory of precious Emma!
Please leave me a Personal Message (PM) regarding the above info I am requesting.
Go to the top of this page and click on Inbox. It will take you to the Personal Message page. Click on NEWPM* located on the left side of the page. A "form" will appear. Type in Ann-Tx for Username. Subject: St. Jude's. Type the info in the Comment Box and click on Send. You can click on Preview to see how it will appear and then click on Send when you are ready to send it.
For your info, Personal Message (PM) is confidential and no one can access it including the site owner and administrators. The only folks who can read it or you and the person you send it to.
There are a lot of new people here and I would like for them to be aware of how personal messaging works here in case they want to PM someone.
Okay, I need to go to Brenham. I guess you saw a comment from Sad, who is apparently from Washington County, about a tombstone erected for Emma but does not include Emma's last name: Thompson. If true, that is very disrespectful to Emma. Emma does have a last name . . . .even in death . . . Emma is a Thompson!
While in town, I will go by Emma's grave and check it out. I will comment on it when I get back. May be gone 2 or 3 hours.
Alicia, once again, thank you for your kind words! Emma was very lucky to have such wonderful, loving paternal family and of course she was so lucky to have her Aunt Am . . .Amanda Matthews and her family!
God bless all of you and may He give all of you the strength to slowly heal from the brutal death of your precious, beautiful, innocent Emma!
May it be of some comfort to all of you to know that the monster who killed Emma will be behind bars and secured away from society for the rest of his disgusting, pathetic life.
May it be a comfort to all of you to know that this piece of $hit, as Ben called him in his Victim's Impact Statement, will not be able to ever harm, abuse, or kill another child.
The seven year old boy (now age 10) from Montgomery County is lucky to be alive! He is a brave little boy to testify about Lucas Coe in the trial about Emma Thompson! Coe could not intimidate him any more!
Wishing you and Matt the very best in life . . .
Ann - Tx (Please PM me about St. Jude's and Emma. I will get the word out and perhaps we can see some donations in memory of Emma rolling in!)
The Victim's Impact Statement on Behalf of Emma Thompson is not posted on KTRK or any other TV station in the Houston area yet.
I e-mailed KTRK yesterday requesting, if they would be so kind, to please, post the Raw Video of the Statements by Ben Thompson, Jim and Laurie Thompson and Amanda Matthews.
If I remember correctly, it was a few days before the Statement video was posted regarding Abigail Young's trial.
In the interim, I am requesting that everyone sends KTRK an e-mail requesting them to please post the video of the Statements. I assure all of you . . . . . you would want to hear the statements!
Here is the Link to the e-mail form for KPRC (Ch 13 - ABC), Houston, Tx:
It is ready to go. Please type your request in the Tips and Comments box:
This was on our local radio news this morning on KWHI - AM, Brenham, Tx. It will be on the Noon News, 5 p.m. News and top of the hour.
~~~~~~~~~~
COE SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON
(SEPTEMBER 24th, , 2010)
"You are not a man. You're a monster." So said Ben Thompson, the father of four-year old Emma Thompson, to Lucas Coe in a Houston courtroom after Coe had been sentenced to life in prison Thursday.
Lucas Coe, the convicted child sex abuser, will spend the rest of his life in prison. The jury handed down that sentence after deliberating just over two hours. The same jury convicted Coe earlier in the week for sexually and physically abusing Emma so badly she died in June of last year. They returned with the verdict at about 12:30 (Thursday) afternoon. Coe had no reaction to the sentence as it was read.
Reports from the district courtroom in Houston say that Visiting District Court Judge Doug Shaver sent the jury into deliberations at 9:50 this (Thursday) morning after reading some instructions to them.
Prosecutor Colleen Barnett took only about fifteen minutes to recount to the jury why the repeat 28-year old offender should go to prison for as long as the law allows. That law, a charge of super-aggravated injury to a child, allows a maximum sentence of 99 years in prison and there is no chance of parole. Ms. Barnett said she hoped that Coe will be haunted by Emma’s face for the rest of his life.
The defense in the case, according to reports from the courtroom, took only about three minutes to speak to the jury. Defense attorney William Van Buren said only that he accepted the jury’s decision.
The same jury had convicted Coe on Tuesday after a week long trial.
Much of the punishment phase testimony took place Wednesday. The jury heard from a ten-year son of a former girlfriend of Coe. The boy testified that Coe would wake him up in the middle of the night, punching and choking him. The boys said that, on one occasion, he woke up in the bathtub, being cleaned up by Coe and his mother. The boy was then hospitalized for 11 days after that incident.
Emma Thompson’s mother, 34-year old Abigail Young, a Brenham native and former nurse was sentenced to 20 years in prison for failing to protect her daughter. That conviction came in July. Young was brought into the courtroom near the end of the Coe trial to be identified.
It was June 27th, 2009 when Emma Thompson died. Medical reports say she had a ruptured pancreas, 80 bruises and a fractured skull among many other injuries.

In the wee hours of this morning, I started compiling a list of the news media that is covering Emma Thompson's Case - Lucas Coe's trial.
I will post it later because I'm still working on it. However, it is safe to say Associated Press picked up the story and many TV stations and newspapers all over the big State of Texas is covering Emma's story which concluded with the sentencing of Lucas Ruric Coe!
There is one, maybe two, TV stations in Oklahoma covering it also!
A few minutes ago, the update on the Lucas Coe Trial Sentencing was on KWHI (radio) - Brenham, Tx. Some additional info was added. Don't know if KWHI will update the article on their website which I posted not too long ago!
The News Director did an awesome job of reporting it. He read it with emphasis! Way to go KWHI! I am Brenham proud!
Okay, I really am going to Brenham now. Just as my hubby and I were going to leave, his appointment was rescheduled for this afternoon. Later ~ ~ ~~ ~

If anyone should see the Victim's Impact Statement on behalf of Emma Thompson, please post it here.
If you, like me, do not know how to post videos, leave a message on Emma's thread saying where it is. More than likely, KTRK (ABC - Ch 13) will post it on their website. It is possible other Houston media might post it. Ch 13 filmed the entire statements!
Snaz or Piper will post it if they see your comment. Thanks! Hold the fort down!

Ann,
Another friend who wanted "Justice for Emma" also went to the grave site and did see the Thompson name on the back. I missed that! Guess I assumed it would be on the front as the others are next to it. Sorry for the misinformation! Here is some info for the family. Brenham Floral in the Bluebonnet shopping center provides a service of placing flowers on grave sites at different times of the year for those who live a distance and can always get there. Also, heard today Coe filed for an appeal. Guess we could assume that would happen. I wonder who will take the case now. Still wonder why the case with the child that testified was not processed before all this happened with Emma!
EVERYONE HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND

Thanks for the clarification, Sad. I don't know that I've ever seen one with the name on the back only.
I assumed Coe would file an appeal. He won't get anywhere with it! It will just be a waste of taxpayer money going thru the motions.

Welcome burekbeba! Amen to that (bolded by me). When will these women open their eyes when choosing a partner to bring into their children's lives! It's a potential death sentence. And a very real and horrific fact in Emma's case.

While in Brenham, I went to Emma's grave. The tombstone is plain and simple. In my opinion, it is not age appropriate. To me it seems like it is for a very elderly lady.
If I did not know about Emma, I would think her last name is Grace. The back of the tombstone has Thompson on it.
All tombstones I have ever seen, and I do spend a lot of time at 2 cemeteries in my area, have the last name on the front of the tombstone and some also have it on the back.
The tombstone is a dark gray (not polished) and the names are placed like this:
Emma
Catherine
Grace
3-29-05
6-27-09
~~~~~~~~
That's it. No design; nothing! But . . . I guess it is better than nothing. Beats the little marker from the funeral home.
I don't think it is what Ben, his parents and family had in mind!
There are so many beautiful tombstones for children in the cemetery and they are age appropriate.
A lady and her two small children were killed in a car accident last year by a drunk driver from out of state as they were coming home from soccer games. Both children played soccer. The husband lost his entire family.
Last week their tombstoes were erected. Absolutely beautiful! The boy loved to fish, play soccer, baseball and loved strawberries. His father went alone to the monument company and had the tombstones designed. All of that was incorporated into the tombstone. A rod and reel; fishing pond; fish then . . . the soccer ball and baseball mitt; then the strawberries. Very tastefully done and beautiful. The girl's tombstone is real beautiful too. The mother loved flowers and hummingbirds. Her tombstone includes flowers and hummingbirds. Polished granite and just awesome!
HOUSTON — Convicted rapist Lucas Ruric Coe has been given the maximum punishment of 99 years in prison — with no possibility of parole — for the brutal sexual assault of 4-year-old Emma Thompson.
Jurors here Thursday deliberated less than three hours before deciding on a punishment that essentially means Coe will die in prison. They also assessed a $10,000 fine.
Harris County District Attorney Patricia Lykos announced that Lucas Ruric Coe received the maximum punishment Thursday of a $10,000 fine and life in prison without the possibility of parole in the brutal sexual assault of four-year-old Emma Thompson.
The same jury Tuesday convicted Coe, 28, of super-aggravated sexual assault of a child. Evidence showed Emma had blunt force trauma to her abdomen, a skull fracture, head lacerations, about 80 bruises, and bleeding from a torn genitalia after being assaulted June 27, 2009.
Since I was attending Lucas Coe's trial, I have not checked up on Abigail Young. Well, well, well . . . I see she now has the big guns representing her appeal process.
She was declared indigent and was assigned Kyle Johnson, an appellate attorney. As of 9-14-10, Johnson no longer represents Young.
Per this PDF file, as of 9-14-10, Abigail Young now has two attorneys representing her appeal, Dick DeGuerin and Todd Ward.
Dick DeGuerin is a very prominent attorney and is awesome! I like to follow DeGuerin's cases if they are on TV news.
I have not heard of Todd Ward but that does not mean anything. If he is representing Young with DeGuerin then he can't be a sleaze. I don't think DeGuerin would affiliate himself with a sleazy attorney.
Young was declared indigent in August, 2010 and I just can not imagine a judge letting Young substitute two attorneys in place of Johnson at taxpayers' expense. I wonder if mommy dearest is bank rolling this.
The factual info (not my personal comments) is per Harris County District Clerk's Office, Houston, Harris County, Tx
The site will not let me copy. I am deleting the Link because it will not let any one view the PDF file unless a person is registered. So . . . . you will have to take my word for it.
Just checked on Abigail Young at the Harris County Sheriff's Office - Jail.
She has not been transferred to prison yet. She is still a resident of the gray bar hotel.
How does Abigail Young manage to not only avoid paying the price for contributing to the hell that Emma endured, but now she, evil person that she is, has two high-priced attorneys representing her in an appeal. She had to know that Coe was molesting Emma, and was the reason that Emma was infected with herpes. The earlier medical report of Emma and herpes was proof. Abby herself also been infected with herpes, and she is a nurse, therefore she cannot claim she didn't understand how this disease got into her daughter. Her denial of the truth should constitute a severe criminal charge of aiding and abetting ongoing sexual abuse of a minor child under the age of six. She lied for Coe, and if she had cared for Emma asmore than she lusted for Coe, Emma would be alive today. Emma's monster mother aided the evil POS that caused Emma's death. Abigail Young is guilty of murder by covering up sexual abuse, denying medical help for Emma unril she was dead, ensuring that Emma could not name Coe as the evil non-human monster who did those horrible things to her. Go ahead Abigail....try for a new trial. I hope with all my heart that you can be charged with much more than your first one.
Ann, Good find re DeGuerin!!
I can't find any information on Attorney Tom Ward -- could the name on the document you saw have been Todd Ward instead of Tom? Todd Ward is an attorney practicing with Dick DeGuerin.
Someone must be handing over some money for Abigail's appeal if Dick DeGuerin is on the case! He doesn't come cheap, that is for sure. His firm is the go to place for people in Houston with money when they need an attorney. He has handled some BIG cases.
Hi, Jean! You are not kidding! You better have big bucks if you even want to think of hiring DeGuerin!Jean wrote:Ann, Good find re DeGuerin!!
Thanks for letting me know Todd Ward is with his firm. I thought he might be. I was going to look it up later. You saved me time. Since you are familiar with DeGuerin, are you from the Houston area (if you don't mind me asking)?
Several years ago, 4 football players from Brenham were accused of raping a 14 year old. One was innocent but he was charged. His parents hired Dick DeGuerin. It was a jury trial in another county (to get a fair trial). DeGuerin proved his innocence but it cost the family around $200,000 in attorney's fees. Yes, one better have big bucks!
He was a Senior and had been accepted at a prestigious college on a football scholarship. Had he lost his case, his football career and scholarship would have been history.
Two of the others had football scholarships and lost them because of the rape.
I really do like DeGuerin. I love watching the updates when he is on a high profile case. Too bad Young does not have an attorney I would not like! I wish she would get a new trial because next time around she would be convicted of the first degree felony and get what Coe got!
An appeal is an automatic thing filed in a case like hers and probably will end up in the round file as in trash can eventually! Just like Coe . . . his defense immediately filed a notice of appeal and that is expected.
Julie, thank you for posting these! Awesome! I don't think these were posted. It really does not matter if the videos have been posted before because if they are many pages up-thread, the readers that may pop in for a few minutes from work or whatever might not have time to go back to the previous pages.Julie wrote:Sorry if these have already been posted....
Just like the tribute that Piper did for Emma. It is so beautiful but if it is buried on page 12 and we are on page 23, many may not see it. (This is just an example). So . . . I think it should be posted periodically!
Yes, Ann, I live just North of Downtown Houston. I can drive downtown in about 25 to 30 minutes -- depends on traffic. I can also take the Metro and get there without fighting the traffic. I wanted to attend Coe's trial, but was unable to do so because of other commitments.
I am in the same boat as you are. I really like and respect Dick DeGuerin. I sure do wish he wasn't representing A. Young in her appeal because I will probably end up hating him.
I followed a few of the cases he was involved in. Tom DeLay, Robert Durst and David Koresh (Branch Davidians). I didn't care at all for the people he was defending and I got angry with him quite often, but he really is a good attorney, IMO.
You, and others, might find the following article about DeGuerin interesting -- it isn't long, just a page. http://www.lawcrossing.com/article/4701/Tough-Texan-Attorney-Dick-DeGuerin/
Re: Emma Thompson -- Deceased 6/27/09 (Thread #1)
Jean, I followed all of those cases! Durst was one strange, frightening dude! He murdered that guy and got off scott free! That ticked me off but I still like DeGuerin.Jean wrote:Yes, Ann, I live just North of Downtown Houston. I can drive downtown in about 25 to 30 minutes -- depends on traffic. I can also take the Metro and get there without fighting the traffic. I wanted to attend Coe's trial, but was unable to do so because of other commitments.
I am in the same boat as you are. I really like and respect Dick DeGuerin. I sure do wish he wasn't representing A. Young in her appeal because I will probably end up hating him.
I followed a few of the cases he was involved in. Tom DeLay, Robert Durst and David Koresh (Branch Davidians). I didn't care at all for the people he was defending and I got angry with him quite often, but he really is a good attorney, IMO.
You, and others, might find the following article about DeGuerin interesting -- it isn't long, just a page. http://www.lawcrossing.com/article/4701/Tough-Texan-Attorney-Dick-DeGuerin/
Sorry to get off topic.
I wish you could have made the trial. You are close to downtown! It took me 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The traffic was a monster jam! Without rush hour traffic, it would take about 1 hr. 15 min.
Jean,
On the District Clerk's site, I saw where Abbey signed the papers claiming she is indigent. The Judge approved it and appointed Johnson.
Now we all know how Abbey lies (reminds me of Casey Anthony). Would she have lied about being indigent? I don't think she would be that stupid! Signing a legal document.
Johnson is history. DeGuerin is a hired attorney along with Todd! Now you know DeGuerin required a hefty retainer. Somebody forked over some big bucks!
Re: Emma Thompson -- Deceased 6/27/09 (Thread #1)
I'm guessing that Abbey's mother forked over the big bucks. I'm not sure if she was required to report her relatives' finances when she filed for indigency, so I'm not sure if they can get her in a lie.
She might have a better attorney now, but it won't change the fact that she hid Coe's presence in her home from CPS workers, and she was more concerned with looking out for Coe than saving Emma the night she died. She took her time shopping when she bought the superglue even though Emma was in urgent need of medical care, and she waited until it was too late to try to drive Emma to the hospital. She should have called 911 the second she knew Emma was hurt, but she was more worried about protecting her monster boyfriend from justice.
When it's over, DeGuerin will make a nice payday, the appeal will be denied, and Abigail will find herself in the same spot she's in now.
Wow, you are right, he is now her attorney of record!! A. Young's mother must have some money -- or she plans on making some real soon. Wow, just Wow.
Thanks for posting all of the info. you found re A. Young's court records.
I already appreciated that you made the time to attend Coe's trial, but I appreciate it even more now that I know how much time you spent on the road to do so!! Oh, my gosh, I don't know how you did it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know Emma's family appreciates it too. (((hugs)))
I wish I could have attented the trial too. I sure would have enjoyed meeting you.
Re: Emma Thompson -- Deceased 6/27/09 (Thread #1)
I want to puke with the thought of this appeal.
Emma was physically taken away from her sisters (her soul still lives and she is with Jesus).
How awful! Mothers are in denial for their boyfriends all the time. Accomplice their lame boyfriends in the death of their child. Abigail was educated, she was a registered nurse (license revoked and can never be one again), she had 3 girls, and was married to a man with class. She was not dependant on Coe, she could support these babies without him. This was her choice. In life, we must suffer consequences for the poor choices we make. Abigail does not want consequences and has not acknowledged her mistake of failing to protect her children. To my understanding to be eligible for parole you must show that you accept your mistakes and have become a better person. What makes this case truly sick on Abbey's behalf was her attempt to glue Emma's skull and her delay in seeking care the day Emma died. I do not agree with her actions and do not sugar coat any actions she took.The herpes MAY be denial, the blood on the panties MAY be denial, the bruises MAY be denial, BUT THE ATTEMPT TO KRAZY GLUE BABY EMMA'S SKULL WAS NOT DENIAL!!! ~RIP BABY GIRL, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN~
Re: Emma Thompson -- Deceased 6/27/09 (Thread #1)
In case someone is not familiar with Coe's charges in Montgomery County (adjacent to Harris County) regarding the seven year old boy who is now ten and testified against Coe in the Punishment Phase re Emma Thompson Case, here is an older article dated 1-16-10.
There is a video of the Press Conference on August 10, 2009 regarding the Emma Thompson Case with A. J. Kelley, Homicide Detective and Lead Investigator in Emma's Case, Harris County Sheriff's Office. Also a picture of Coe at the bottom of the article. Maybe his Montgomery County mug shot?
Coe's trial in Montgomery County was suppose to be before his trial in Harris County (Emma Thompson Case). When I checked with the Court Co-ordinator in July, she said Harris County would try their case first.
I think I will call Montgomery County Monday and find out the status.
Man charged in beating death of 4-year-old returns to Conroe
A Magnolia man charged last year in the brutal beating death of his girlfriend’s preschool age daughter in Harris County is now in the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe where he faces charges of injuring another child.
On Tuesday, a Montgomery County Grand Jury reindicted 28-year-old Lucas Ruric Coe, of Magnolia on a Jan. 13, 2005 charge of first-degree felony Serious Bodily Injury to a Child, which is now paired with his indictment Sept. 27, 2007 for third-degree felony Bodily Injury to a Child. The victim in the Montgomery County case is a 7-year-old boy.
Assistant District Attorney Sylvia Yarbrough will prosecute Coe on the two charges and said she sought the reindictment so she could try Coe on both counts at once. The case will be heard in the 221st District Court of Judge Suzanne Stovall.
Coe made headlines last Aug. 10 when he and girlfriend, 33-year-old Abigail Elizabeth Young, were arrested for first-degree felony Serious Bodily Injury to a Child in the June 27 death of 4-year-old Emma Thompson.
Coe was not Thompson’s father, but shared a residence in Spring with Emma and her mother, Young, a registered nurse who worked in labor and delivery.
There is a video of the Press Conference on August 10, 2009 regarding the Emma Thompson Case with A. J. Kelley, Homicide Detective and Lead Investigator in Emma's Case, Harris County Sheriff's Office. Also a picture of Coe at the bottom of the article. Maybe his Montgomery County mug shot?
Coe's trial in Montgomery County was suppose to be before his trial in Harris County (Emma Thompson Case). When I checked with the Court Co-ordinator in July, she said Harris County would try their case first.
I think I will call Montgomery County Monday and find out the status.
When it's over, DeGuerin will make a nice payday, the appeal will be denied, and Abigail will find herself in the same spot she's in now.
I totally agree with you, Justice! DeGuerin will laugh all the way to the bank!
Wait... Abigail Young has been declared indigent? If so, then her mother is probably not paying for DeGeurin. The State (you, the taxpayer) is paying for him, and as I understand indigency, he most likely has agreed to a reduced fee. If her mother were footing the bill, then I don't think they would allow her to keep her indigent status (unless it is just for costs).
For example, in the Casey Anthony case, the JAC (Justice Administrative Commission) filed a motion wanting confirmation that since KC has hired these new attorneys, that she has not come into access to funds in order to pay them. They are pro bono, but if they were being paid, I believe she would lose her indigent status. Because the judge has already denied any further payments for attorneys fees.
I believe Abigail's situation might be similar.
Just a thought.
Abigail was declared indigent before her trial and was given a court appointed attorney. I think she gave up her indigent status for the appeal and had her mother pay unless DeGeurin decided to work cheap or for free.
So let me get this straight.... she lets the State (read: the taxpayers) pay for her defense until she is convicted and decides she wanted a "better" attorney.... all the sudden, she decides she is NOT indigent and can not only pay for an attorney, but one that appears to have quite a reputation and is mostly likely pretty high-priced?
OK.. that would really steam me if I was a Texas taxpayer!
I would be steamed too. If Abigail or her mother can afford to pay for a high priced attorney for her appeal, why did they force the taxpayers to pay for her defense during the trial.
