I think I have found out how it works, that AY is eligible for parole in 2012.

Abigail Young was found guilty of causing injury to a child by omission, but the jury found that she did so recklessly rather than knowingly and intentionally. It was a lesser charge and carries with it a sentence of two to 20 years behind bars, instead of a possible life sentence she faced on the more serious charge.

The Texas parole board uses a release formula that includes an inmate's prison time, county jail time served, and credits earned for good behavior, "good time" credits equal prison time served - so if the parole board decides AY has met her parole criteria, the times served (county & state) and credits will be added together - when they equal 5 years she is eligible for parole - possibly long before she sits behind bars for 5 years. Possibly as soon as 2012.

There is another momster in Harris Co, on July 9, 2009, jv was convicted of bodily injury to a child by failing to obtain adequate medical care, in connection with the death of her 8 week old son, Saul. She pled guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in a Texas prison - she was released in Feb 2010, after serving just 7 months!

jv served 30 actual months behind bars, the majority of it in the Harris County Jail, prior to her conviction. The remaining 2½ years were earned in "good time" credits, totaling five years served — enough to release her on parole. The parole board sited her lack of priors and "satisfactory institutional adjustment," said Troy Fox, administrator for the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. So in effect jv earned 2½ years credit in just 7 months.

According to records filed at the DCO, jv was jailed on 03/11/2008; on 07/09/2009 she entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to twenty years.

I think this system stinks! Emma's life is worth so much more!

We absolutely need to remain vigilant and send letters stating our dissatisfaction to the parole board.

Making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN is a wonderful way to honor Emma's memory.

I think St. Jude is an outstanding hospital. They provide medical care for children in need. No child is ever turned away and no bills are sent.

St. Jude's is a children's hospital that Emma's paternal grandparents selected to set up a tribute account in memory of Emma. Donations are made direct to the hospital.

Emma liked helping others and her paternal family thinks Emma would have liked to help very sick children in need of medical care. God bless precious Emma!
