Media circus expected for Anthony trial : MyFoxORLANDO.com

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Orange County Courthouse majestically dominates a block of downtown Orlando, but come May 16th, when the Casey Anthony trial starts, its domination will be challenged by the throngs of media outlets arriving.

An enormous private, grassy lot across the street from the courthouse will host more than 500 print, online, and television folks, covering the case.

Obsession with Casey Anthony case adds to circus atmosphere

By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel
6:34 p.m. EDT, April 5, 2011

As Casey Anthony's murder trial approaches, a new level of weirdness has settled in around the case: A recent wave of obsessed court watchers and fanatics have tried to inject themselves into the story, only adding to the circus atmosphere.

The latest example is Michigan prison inmate Curtis Jackson, whose handwritten motion filed late Monday asked for defense attorney Jose Baez's withdrawal from the case. Jackson's claim— that there was "an attorney-client breakdown" between Baez and Anthony — caused a brief media frenzy. Baez quickly dispelled that notion during a lengthy interview on national television Tuesday.

"He writes all kinds of things from having knowledge about the case and having knowledge about what actually happened to Caylee," Baez told In Session, while explaining the parties in the case have heard from Jackson before. "There's absolutely no way he has any connection to this case, ever."

Like it or not, experts say, Casey Anthony has developed a certain "celebrity" thanks to the intense media coverage of her case and her relative attractiveness. And that status, in large part, helps draw admirers, unofficial advocates and trial groupies all looking to share the spotlight.

Casey Trial May Turn Downtown Into 'Fairground'

City, County Meeting To Discuss Crowds This Week

UPDATED: 6:30 pm EDT April 11, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A variety of city and county agencies will meet for the first time Thursday to discuss how to manage crowds for the Casey Anthony murder trial, which is scheduled to begin next month.

George and Cindy Anthony's former attorney, Brad Conway, said he expects plenty of vendors downtown trying to make a quick buck off the trial.

During the time he worked for the Anthonys, he tried to stop people from making a profit off of Caylee dolls and related merchandise.

Casey Anthony: How Orlando is preparing for a 'trial event'

By Adam Longo, Reporter
Last Updated: Monday, April 18, 2011 6:21 AM

ORLANDO --

When Casey Anthony goes to trial in May, it will be more than just another court case. It will be an event, and the city of Orlando said it's planning accordingly.

"We have 'events' like this all the time," said city spokesman Heather Fagan.

So does the same planning that goes into, say, the NBA All-Star Game next year go into Casey Anthony trial?

According to Fagan, "The only difference is the length of time."
