WHO IS HE?: Amendola has earned a deep respect — and a bit of envy — from attorneys for his ability to win cases and make deals. Some attorneys would grumble when he would flit into former District Attorney Ray Gricar’s office, or the office of Gricar’s successor, Michael Madeira, and come away with deals that no one else could get. In Sandusky’s case, Amendola hasn’t enjoyed that privilege. He’s grumbled a few times about the state Attorney General’s Office and a lack of courtesy. As for his reputation for getting deals? "While I’m known for getting great deals, I also can try a case and in this case, there can be no deals," he said of the allegations against Sandusky.

Here is a look at the alleged victims, the allegations reports from the grand jury make and what state prosecutors charge Sandusky with doing:

ALLEGED VICTIM 1: Involved in alleged incident that prompted the grand jury investigation. The boy’s mother contacted the Central Mountain School District to report alleged abuse.

Sandusky met him through The Second Mile. Prosecutors allege that Sandusky took the boy when he was 10 or 11 years old to sporting events and had him stay at his home, where he eventually sexually abused him.

Investigations spawned by Jerry Sandusky charges

The Associated Press The outcome of Jerry Sandusky's trial on 52 counts of child sex abuse on 10 alleged victims over a 15-year span won't signal the last word about what occurred.Several active investigations were spawned by his arrest in November, including:

- The Pennsylvania attorney general's office has said repeatedly that it has an "active and ongoing" related investigation.

- The U.S. attorney in Harrisburg issued a wide-ranging subpoena to Penn State University in February, seeking computer records and other information.

- Ex-FBI director Louis Freeh was brought in by Penn State's board and is conducting an investigation in which hundreds of people have been interviewed. A report is likely to be released in August.

No live blogging, tweeting or posting articles to media websites in real time.

In the past (during hearings), Judge Cleland has provided a sketch artist in the court room.

InSession stated they will "cover" the Opening Statements and the trial.

My assumption is InSession will have more than one reporter in the court room and I guess the reporter will have to leave the court room to tweet or discuss the trial proceedings with InSession(TV).

PA routinely bars television and radio coverage from its courtrooms.

I assume InSession will tweet but it won't be in real time.

Bumping! There will be lots of media coverage of this trial; there just will not be Live Streams or "Live" coverage from the Court Room.

One article I read stated it is doubtful if the media will even get pics of the witnesses going into the court house as a tarp is in place and supposedly the witnesses will be brought to the area in a vehicle to make an entry into the court house.

I was really hoping this trial would be televised by InSession and streamed "Live."

As the Jerry Sandusky trial opens this week, many Americans seem to be asking the same question: when will it be over and when can this awful man’s long prison sentence start? This, of course, skips an important step – the trial itself. It may look like the prosecution has an open-and-shut case against Sandusky. But whatever the public is expecting, it is hardly a sure thing that the trial will end in a conviction.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, is facing 52 counts of child sex abuse. He is charged with abusing 10 boys over 15 years, using a charity he founded, Second Mile, to meet his victims. The pattern he is accused of is a classic one in crimes of this sort: targeting children, “grooming” them with friendship and gifts, and then molesting them.

Jerry Sandusky makes his way into the Centre County courthouse for the first day of his trial on child molestation charges. Sandusky has been charged with 52 counts of child sex abuse allegedly involving 10 boys over 15 years.

BELLEFONTE -- Members of the public, very few of whom will be allowed into the courthouse for the trial starting today of former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky, started lining up at 5:30 a.m. They were joined by members of the media, local and national.

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- The state vs. Jerry Sandusky trial began at 9 a.m. today in Courtroom 1, Centre County Courthouse.

Follow along with live coverage here, and be sure to frequently refresh this page for the latest updates.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, has been charged with 52 counts of sexually abusing 10 boys, some of them on the Penn State campus and all of them he met through his Second Mile children's charity. Sandusky says he's innocent.

9 a.m.: Courthouse bell rings for 9 o'clock. Opening statements should be starting. There's no live reporting allowed from inside.

8:44 a.m.: Doors are closed to the courthouse.

8:30 a.m.: The public and media are being let in to the main and annex courtrooms. The annex, across the street, will have audio streamed in. People can leave the courtrooms but won't be allowed back in except during breaks. Opening remarks start at 9.

8 a.m. Judge John Cleland has arrived. Sandusky was a few minutes later.

The courthouse doors are covered so witness-holding areas aren't visible.

7:30 a.m.: Members of the public -- few will be allowed in the courtroom -- have been lining up since around 5:30 a.m. Bill Rishel, of Bellefonte, was among the. "This is the biggest news to ever hit Centre County," he said.

Most of the courthouse seats will go to media.

I am so glad to see that some news sources are going to be respectful of these victim's privacy & identity. I am so sad that they are being forced to use their real names, but if it means justice for them in the end, I hope they will feel it was a risk worth taking.

I have to add, I am just sick that the defense is going to attack the victim's credibility - they were boys, in a bad situation, most needing help from the charity Second Mile. That was what made them victims in the first place, JS knew they wouldn't be 'credible' if they told what happened to them, that's why he chose them. He is a predator, that is what predator's do - he found their weakness & will continue to victimize them by his lawer questioning their credibility. I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars for what he did to those boys.

BELLEFONTE -- Opening statements were made today in former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's child sexual assault trial.

The Second Mile is not on trial, prosecutor Joseph E. McGettigan said in his opening arguments to jurors in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case this morning.

Neither is Penn State University, he said.

It is Sandusky -- who sat in a wrinkled green suit and turned his chair and faced a 12-foot projection screen as

McGettigan showed pictures of each of his accusers as boys.

One juror shook her head as the prosecutor explained the abuse that each allegedly endured.

BELLEFONTE -- The child sexual abuse trial of former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky began shortly after 9 a.m. at the Centre County courthouse.

Judge John M. Cleland began with approximately 25 minutes of instructions to a panel of 12 jurors, outlining their responsibilities in the case against Sandusky. He also explained why he trusted the group of jurors and decided not to sequester them during jury selection last week.

"As you look upon yourselves, you are men, women, older, younger, Penn State faculty and Penn State students," Cleland told the jurors. "You have all read and heard things about this case. Some of you are football fans, some of you could care less. You are, in short, a cross-section of the citizens of Centre County. You are a jury of the defendant's peers."

Interesting to note that they showed the pictures of the victims as little boys. (Jean of In Sessions, said that is Prosecution 101) Also all but two had similar looks. All but two had blond hair. Two had darker hair.

Intereting also that he is being called a serial predator. Which he is. IMO

The middle-aged juror's husband is a physician in the same medical group in which John McQueary, the father of one of the key witnesses in the case, works. Former graduate student Mike McQueary has testified that he alerted football coach Joe Paterno in 2002 that he'd seen what appeared to be Sandusky sexually assaulting a boy in a shower in Penn State's athletic facilities, an allegation that authorities didn't learn of until years later. Defense attorney Joseph Amendola asked to have the woman struck for cause because of that relationship, but Judge John Cleland rejected his request. "We're in Centre County. We're in rural Pennsylvania," he said. "There are these [connections] that cannot be avoided." It appeared that Amendola was going to use his first peremptory challenge, but Sandusky stopped him, saying, "I think she would be fair."

Juror number 3's husband works with John McQueary the father of one of the key witnesses. (no information what this witness will be saying)

Interesting that all witesses but number 2 and 8 were connected to Second Mile Foundation. In Session went to great extent to say that Second Mile is not on trial.

IS (In Session) restating that this first witness must be their strongest and sets the tone for all other witnesses.

Also of interest is that Victim number 4 (First witness)was taken out of town to these two bowl games. (These are not statements from me, I am just trying to report what IS (In session is saying)

Willow, your updates are so appreciated! Hubby has downright said he will not watch this trial (he suffered thru CA, Tammi Smith and Adam Kaufman), but this one just turns his stomach. Have to wait til he goes to take a nap to turn it on. Have to pick my battles....lol....have Drew Peterson, Eliz Johnson and CA waiting in the wings to be watched.

So let me get this straight.....The Commonwealth does not allow for expert testimony on the behavior of the victims, but (the Defense) wants the Commonwealth to allowexpert testimony on the behavior of the perp?

Sketch artist says that Sandusky looks as though he believe his story is going to fly and can not understand the whole world thinks otherwise.

Another sketch shows Pros is pained having to repeat what was done to boys.

I am sure these will all be shown again.

One of the TH said they were in the second row and it is very hard to hear what is being said in the court room.

ABC News reported last week that Sandusky sent intimate love letters to alleged Victim Four who describes the former Penn State assistant football coach as a surrogate father and a molester.

I just wanted to add that Sandusky's lawyer filed a motion in limine to allow the testimony of an expert witness who will explain to the jurors that "Sandusky's love letters" were a product of his "histrionic personality disorder. And, that he was not trying to "groom" his victim as the prosecution has alleged.

Witness Victim #4 is going to talk about an on going course of incidents that happened in Fl and Texas. He was 12-17 years old. JS gave him money for Marijuana. Continued until 1999. Includes touching to actual penetration. At Penn State, at JS Home out of state as stated above at two bowl games. (God I hate even saying this stuff)
