The suspect from notorious Phoenix murders was arrested after he moved back to Arizona and undercover officer was able to obtain a DNA sample.

Phoenix police believe they have the man responsible for the Canal Murders that shocked and horrified the valley more than 20 years ago.

The suspect, Bryan Patrick Miller, 42, was arrested Tuesday night after some creative detective work to get a DNA sample.

Investigators are combing through a home they say Miller shared with his teenage daughter. The small house at the corner of 9th Street and Mountain View, police say, was once owned by "a grandmother." When the woman died, Miller and his daughter moved back to Phoenix to live in the home described by police as a hoarding site.

The Canal Murders shocked and horrified the community starting in the fall of 1992.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Nearly one week ago, an AIG executive vanished at a Southern California luxury golf resort, leaving behind his jacket, his wallet and a mystery.

Omar Meza, 33, of Los Angeles, was last seen at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, Calif., on Jan. 8. He was reported missing Friday morning after he failed to show up for a business appointment.

Since Meza disappeared, local police have scoured the area around the resort for clues, and alerted authorities as far away as Mexico, where Meza's parents live. The search continued Wednesday, when volunteers gathered to help canvas the area.

Although Meza vanished from the JW Marriott, he was actually staying at a different Marriott hotel in another part of the city. Meza's wife suspects he may have come to the JW Marriott by mistake, after telling an Uber driver to take him to the wrong hotel on the evening of his disappearance.

The family of missing AIG executive Omar Meza announced his death shortly after California authorities discovered a body.

The body found in a pond at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort has not been confirmed as the insurance giant employee who vanished last week.

The 33-year-old’s disappearance sparked a massive search around the resort with relatives desperately sharing his photos to Facebook hoping someone had seen him.

“We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza. He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend,” his family wrote Thursday. “It brings tears to our eyes to see how well loved Omar was.”

Body Found Near Hotel Where Missing AIG Exec Was Last Seen

A body has been found on the golf course of the hotel where missing AIG exec Omar Meza was last seen.

The body was discovered near the 18th hole of a golf course at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, KESQ reports. The JW was the last place Meza, 33, was seen prior to his disappearance last Thursday. Authorities have not confirmed whether this is Meza's body.

~Snipped~

Meza's coworkers said they saw him leave dinner in Indian Wells in an Uber. He was later seen in security footage walking into the lobby of the JW. It is not clear how he exited the hotel, but he was seen again outside, walking towards a parking lot. Investigators later found Meza's jacket and wallet on the the hotel's golf course. Authorities and bloodhounds searched the property for Meza, and teams of divers began looking in man-made lakes and other bodies of water.

The news of a body found on the grounds of the JW is admittedly odd. Earlier today, volunteers involved in the expanded search into Thousand Palms after Riverside County Sheriff's Department said they'd finished searching the grounds of the JW. Meza's brother, Sven Meza, told The Desert Sun, "We're 100 percent sure that he's not in the pond or the lakes at the JW Marriott, which is great news. It gives us hope that he's alive and it gives us hope this crew can help find him or provide us with some information."

Rhonda Daugherty, 49, vanished on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014, from her home in LaFollette, Tennessee.

Her husband, Charles Daugherty, told police that he arrived home that evening to find the back door wide open. All of her belongings, including her cell phone, purse, keys and vehicle, were located at the home. However, Rhonda was nowhere to be found.

"Not knowing what's happened is the biggest thing, just not knowing what's happened to her. Is she out here cold and alone? I don't know. I want to find her," Charles told NBC affiliate WBIR.

Family and friends said it's very unlike Rhonda to simply vanish, especially as she is expected to become a first-time grandmother this week.

Police have not commented on whether or not the mother's disappearance is suspicious, but they have launched an investigation. The sheriff's office is also offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to her whereabouts.

"We're just devastated," Rhonda's cousin, Scott Kitts, told Dateline. "Especially with the holidays coming up, we are all out of minds with worry. Rhonda is a big part of the community here."

Rhonda is described as 5'3", 150 lbs., with auburn hair and hazel eyes. If you have any information that could help in the case, please call the Campbell County Sheriff's Office at (423) 562-7446. You can also visit the Facebook page, Search for Rhonda Kitts Daugherty, for more information.

Vann, 44, is charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of kidnapping.

Officials say they are continuing their search for Daugherty and no body has been found.

“Our work, however, is not over and will not end until we try to piece together all of the information and evidence and bring the individual responsible for this horrendous crime to justice,” said TBI Director Mark Gwyn.

Vann and Daugherty attended the same church.

Daugherty’s husband is also listed as a grand jury witness called to testify about Vann’s alleged inappropriate conduct with a student in an unrelated case. Vann was formerly a teacher at LaFollette Middle School and was placed on suspension without pay in October 2013 after allegations of inappropriate conduct arose.

“To get him to talk is what we need to happen here. He needs to talk. Let the people know. Let the investigators, TBI know where she’s at so that they can do their investigation and their findings,” said Kitts.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information in the Daugherty case.

Mom on trial accused of killing 5-year-old with salt

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A confounding and heartbreaking murder case alleging that a mother purposely poisoned her 5-year-old son with salt and documented his decline on social media began Monday in the New York suburbs.

Lacey Spears, 27, of Scottsville, Kentucky, who presented herself online as a supremely devoted mother, is charged with depraved murder and manslaughter in the death a year ago of Garnett-Paul Spears.

"This mother was intentionally feeding her child salt at toxic levels," prosecutor Doreen Lloyd said at Spears' arraignment.

The boy's sodium levels rose to a dangerous point with no medical explanation, prosecutors said, leading to a swollen brain, seizures and death. They believe his single mother, who was sharing his hospital room at Westchester Medical Center, administered salt through a feeding tube into Garnett's stomach.

All the while, she was keeping followers up to date with 28 online postings in the last 11 days of his life, noting his death with, "Garnett the great journeyed onward today at 10:20 a.m." She had tens of thousands of entries over Garnett's lifetime, many about his doctor and hospital visits.

Three cops, a 17-year-old and 'a cry for help': why did Kristiana Coignard die?

The Guardian
Tom Dart in Houston

Developing Stories - Page 3 AA8GEmm

© In Loving Memory of Kristiana Coignard Facebook photo

Just after sunset last Thursday, 17-year-old Kristiana Coignard entered a police station in Longview, Texas, a small city two hours east of Dallas with a history of police violence not all that different from the rest of the United States – but no less mysterious.

Coignard picked up a red, wall-mounted phone in the police department lobby and asked to speak with an officer – for reasons that also remain unclear.

The teenager may have been “wielding a knife”, according to the mayor. Police say “they were confronted by a white female who threatened them” – after which she brandished some sort of weapon, “made threatening movements toward the officers and was shot”. Motives on either side are still relatively unknown.

What is clear, nearly a week later in Texas and six months after police killings and community relations starting coming under renewed scrutiny across the US, is that another teenager has died after being shot “multiple times” by local cops. Three officers are on paid leave, the Longview police told the Guardian. A preliminary autopsy report has ruled the death a homicide.

And in the case of Kristiana Coignard, as in what advocates and sheriffs agree constitute more than half of US police killings each year, the victim appears to have had mental health problems.

Call it “justifiable homicide”: FBI statistics counted 461 encounters between police and those they killed with the threat of violence in 2013. Some have dubbed it “suicide-by-cop”, as about one-third of such cases can be classified – in addition to undoubtedly many more undercounted deaths. The hacktivist collective Anonymous prefers “trained to kill”.

`snipped~

The teenager was taking medication, seeing a therapist and living with her aunt, Heather Robertson, according to an interview with Robertson at ThinkProgress. She told the website that Coignard had struggled with depression and bipolar disorder since her mother’s death when she was four years old. Robertson said her niece had been “only violent with herself”.

“I think it was a cry for help,” Robertson said of the incident in the police department lobby. “I think they could have done something. They are grown men. I think there is something they are not telling us.”

There is video of the killing, Coignard’s aunt said the police told her.

A Longview police spokesperson, Kristie Brian, told the Guardian there are currently no plans to make footage available to the public. She declined to confirm the type of weapon Coignard allegedly brandished but said the department expects to release more details about the shooting later this week. The Texas Ranger Division is investigating the incident

John Dwyer went missing early Sunday morning while out celebrating his 23rd birthday in Downtown Wisconsin Dells with friends.

Police say shortly after noon, they found his body on the banks of the river. They believe he fell to his death.

Tanya Russell said, "Shock. He's not that kind of guy that leaves his friends, gets separated. He goes out with friends, has fun, and....Just shock. No idea what could have possibly happened. Fun loving. Do anything for anybody. You have a problem you talk to him. You need anything, he's that guy."

Wisconsin Dells Police officials say personnel from the state Department of Natural Resources searched portions of the Wisconsin River Wednesday for missing La Crosse man John Dwyer.

Chief Jody Ward said a DNR boat was in the Upper Dells portion of the river Wednesday, but no sign of the 23-year old man was discovered.

Authorities say Dwyer celebrated his birthday with more than half dozen friends Saturday in Wisconsin Dells. Officials say Dwyer was last seen outside a Wisconsin Dells bar early Sunday morning.

-----------------------------------
A Wisconsin Dells cab driver said missing man John Dwyer appeared upbeat and steady in the hours before Dwyer's disappearance, as Dwyer and friends visited night spots in celebrating his birthday.

"He was a happy-go-lucky kid," cab driver Larry Volkey tells our sister station WKOW. "The whole group was having a great time."

Volkey says Dwyer and his friends were transported in his cab company's 14-seat van Saturday night. Dwyer, of La Crosse, turned 23 Saturday.

Wisconsin Dells Police Chief Jody Ward says a witness tells officers he was with Dwyer outside the bar Nig's downtown around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, and Dwyer acted and appeared fine.

"And he was last seen walking north on River Road, and that would have been put in the direction of where his motel was," Ward says. The owner of the nearby Finch Motel said Dwyer and more than a half-dozen friends had two rooms reserved Saturday night.

Woman's claims about Prince Andrew, others reignite sex case

Associated Press
By CURT ANDERSON
February 2, 2015 - 6 hours ago

MIAMI (AP) — First came the allegations late last year that Britain's Prince Andrew and a prominent American lawyer took part in a wealthy sex offender's abuse of teenage girls aboard private jets, in luxury homes and on the financier's Caribbean island.

The story, part of a long-running U.S. legal fight focused on the rights of the women, gained steam when Buckingham Palace took the unusual step of issuing a carefully worded denial of the kind of salacious claims that royal officials rarely acknowledge. Defense attorney Alan Dershowitz, who represented the highly connected Jeffrey Epstein and was himself named in the latest court filings, then called the most outspoken of the four women a serial liar and practically dared her to prove her accounts.

Instead of letting the case play out from there, the woman known as Jane Doe No. 3 hit back with a 23-page affidavit detailing dates, locations and more about the powerful men she says Epstein forced her and the others to satisfy.

A Palmdale man who acted in a "Power Rangers" television series was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of his roommate with a sword, authorities said Sunday..

Ricardo Medina, 36, was arrested following the incident, which occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday at a house in the 38000 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The incident began when Medina went to his bedroom with his girlfriend after getting into an argument with his roommate, Joshua Sutter, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Sutter, 36, followed and forced open the door to the bedroom; Medina took up a sword that he kept next to the door and fatally stabbed Sutter once in the abdomen, authorities said.

Medina called 911 and stayed at the home. He was later interviewed by detectives and booked Sunday at the sheriff’s station in Palmdale. His bail was set at $1 million.

A judge sentenced a onetime child actor to death for murdering an Arizona couple by tying them to an anchor and throwing them overboard from their yacht off Southern California.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank F. Fasel on Friday imposed the sentence recommended by the jury that convicted 29-year old Skylar Deleon of killing Tom and Jackie Hawks of Prescott, Ariz.

Prosecutors say the Long Beach man and a teen actor in a "Power Rangers" TV series feigned interest in buying the couple's yacht and killed them during a test cruise in 2004.

Dad Refuses to Give Up Newborn Son With Down Syndrome

By NICOLE PELLETIERE

Good Morning America

Developing Stories - Page 3 HT_samuel_forrest_3_sk_150205_v16x9_16x9_992

When Samuel Forrest of Armenia heard a baby crying from outside his wife's hospital room, he knew his life would change forever.

Not only had he become a father, but he would soon receive some unexpected news about his newborn son.

"This pediatrician walks out of the room with a little bundle -- that was Leo," Forrest said. "She had his face covered up and hospital authorities wouldn't let me see him or my wife. When the doctor came out, he said 'there’s a real problem with your son.'

Forrest followed doctors and nurses into a room where he'd finally get to meet his baby.

"When I walked into the room they all turned to me and said 'Leo has Down syndrome," he told ABC News. "I had a few moments of shock."

After the news had sunk in, Forrest held Leo for the very first time.

"They took me in see him and I looked at this guy and I said, he's beautiful -- he's perfect and I'm absolutely keeping him."

Soon Forrest walked into his wife's hospital room with Leo in his arms.

Her reaction was unlike one he ever expected.

"I got the ultimatum right then," he said. "She told me if I kept him then we would get a divorce."

Why would Andrew (not a prince in my  book)  and Clinton be hanging out with Epstein, a known procurer of young females? Birds of a feather will flock together! (I am sure Hilary is livid and trying her best to get this info shutdown in the US...Bill DOES have a history of unzipping.)

Adnan Syed, Maryland

"....Adnan Syed is getting one more chance.

Syed, 34, who is serving a life sentence for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, drew national attention last year when the podcast Serial examined the weak points in the case against him. Now the Maryland Court of Special Appeals has accepted Syed's application for an appeal.

The decision was filed on Friday and first reported Saturday.

"It's the first step in a pretty long process but we're extremely happy," C. Justin Brown, Syed's attorney, told The Baltimore Sun.

After briefings are filed, the court could hear oral arguments and decide to grant Syed a new trial, the Sun reported. It could also deny a new trial, or send the proceedings back to circuit court.

Syed, a high school senior at the time of the killing, was found guilty by a jury in 2000. The case was not widely known until Serial, a podcast spun off from This American Life, delved into the details of the 16-year-old murder. ..."

The appeal is granted to be heard.

Epstein victims’ attorneys file defamation suit against Dershowitz

By Michele Dargan
Daily News Staff Writer

The two attorneys who represent victims of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are striking back against claims of unethical behavior and threats of disbarment leveled by high-profile lawyer Alan Dershowitz.

Bradley Edwards and Paul Cassell filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday in Broward County Circuit Court, accusing Dershowitz of “character assassination” when he “initiated a massive public media assault on the reputation and character” of both attorneys.

Dershowitz launched an all-out media blitz after Edwards and Cassell filed court papers last week containing allegations by one of Epstein’s underage victims that she had sex with Dershowitz and Britain’s Prince Andrew on Epstein’s orders. Dershowitz denies the allegations.

“To falsely accuse me of being a child rapist and then sue me for defamation when I fight back to defend myself is the newest definition of chutzpah,” Dershowitz said Wednesday by phone.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The boyfriend of a college freshman found dead in her dorm room was charged Monday with homicide after an autopsy found signs she had been severely beaten and strangled.

Authorities responding to a 911 call early Sunday at Millersville University said 19-year-old Gregorio Orrostieta had blood smeared on his face and a dried cut on his forehead and was trying to administer CPR to student Karlie Hall, police said. His shirt was ripped, exposing scratch marks on his chest, and he had blood on his hands and jeans, the police affidavit said.

Orrostieta told police he shoved Hall, causing her to fall and hit her head on a chair, and then gave her a "back hand" to the face, court records show. Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said that the autopsy indicated Hall suffered numerous injuries while she fought for her life.

It I am not wrong the teenager was killed by her uncle because she was going to testify against him for him sexual assaulting her. He called her from a cell phone number she did not know and said he wanted to meet her after school which he kidnapped her and killed her. It took a few days to find out who her killer was but they suspected it was him. Sad ending for this girl who was trying to get justice for herself.

Bob Simon, an award-winning CBS News correspondent whose career spanned nearly 50 years and many major world conflicts, was killed in a car crash in Manhattan on Wednesday, according to the network and the authorities. He was 73.

Mr. Simon was a passenger in a livery cab that sideswiped a Mercedes-Benz sedan stopped at a red light on 12th Avenue near West 30th Street about 6:45 p.m., the police said. The cab then careened into the median, crashing into the metal stanchions separating the northbound and southbound traffic lanes. Mr. Simon was taken to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 44-year-old livery-cab driver was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center with injuries to his legs and arms, the Fire Department said. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was not injured, according to the police.

The police said on Wednesday night that the accident was under investigation.

Prosecutor: Mom Craved Attention, Poisoned Child With Salt

A woman accused of force feeding her 5-year-old son salt through a stomach tube reveled in the attention that a sickly child brought her, a prosecutor said Thursday at her trial.

And Lacey Spears eventually killed the boy, Garnett-Paul Spears, because she feared he would start telling people she was making him ill, Assistant District Attorney Patricia Murphy suggested in closing arguments.

"The motive is bizarre, the notion is scary, but it exists ... She apparently craved the attention of her family, her friends, her co-workers and most particularly the medical profession," she said.

Spears "created this false persona, this caring mother," Murphy said.

But what she did to her son was "nothing short of torture," the prosecutor said before the New York jury began deliberating charges of depraved murder and manslaughter. Deliberations resume Friday.

Felony murder: why a teenager who didn't kill anyone faces 55 years in jail

Blake Layman broke into a house unarmed. The homeowner opened fire, injuring him and killing a friend. But Indiana law means he is officially a murderer

Ed Pilkington in Haddon Township, Indiana
Thursday 26 February 2015 07.00 EST

Developing Stories - Page 3 490b0b7c-988d-4e35-a963-c3df5e06721e-620x419
Blake Layman is taking cognitive thinking classes, has learnt how to quilt, and reads up on law in the prison library. ‘I feel like if I have to do my time, why not better myself while I’m here,’ he said. Photograph: Supplied

Blake Layman made one very bad decision. He was 16, an unexceptional teenager growing up in a small Indiana town. He’d never been in trouble with the law, had a clean criminal record, had never owned or even held a gun.

That decision sparked a chain of events that would culminate with his arrest and trial for “felony murder”. The boy was unarmed, had pulled no trigger, killed no one. He was himself shot and injured in the incident while his friend standing beside him was also shot and killed. Yet Layman would go on to be found guilty by a jury of his peers and sentenced to 55 years in a maximum-security prison for a shooting that he did not carry out.

How Blake Layman got to be in the Kafkaesque position in which he now finds himself – facing the prospect of spending most of the rest of his life in a prison cell for a murder that he did not commit – is the subject on Thursday of a special hearing of the Indiana supreme court, the state’s highest judicial panel. How the judges respond to the case of what has become known as the “Elkhart Four” could have implications for the application of so-called “felony murder” laws in Indiana and states across the union.

~Snipped~

The legal anomaly at the heart of what has become known in criminal justice circles as the case of the “Elkhart 4” will be the subject on Thursday of a special hearing by the Indiana supreme court, the state’s highest legal panel. The judges have asked lawyers for Layman and for the prosecution to address that specific question: is it consistent with Indiana law that he and his friends who were all unarmed, who fired not a single shot, and who in fact were themselves fired upon, one fatally, by a third party – the homeowner Rodney Scott – could be put away for decades for murder?

The conundrum is not an arcane one. Some 46 states in the union have some form of felony murder rule on their statute books. Of those, 11 states unambiguously allow for individuals who commit a felony that ends in a death to be charged with murder even when they were the victims, rather than the agents, of the killing.

In Indiana the wording of the felony murder law is more nuanced than those of the other 11 states. It says that a “person who kills another human being while committing or attempting to commit … burglary … commits murder, a felony.”

Elkhart 4: Justice or Overkill?

January 17, 2014

In October 2012, 21-year-old Danzele Johnson was shot and killed by an Elkhart, Indiana homeowner while he and three friends broke into the man's home and another served as a lookout. Although they didn’t pull the trigger, Danzele’s friends, 16-year-olds Blake Layman and Jose Quiroz, 17-year-old Levi Sparks and 18-year-old Anthony Sharp — now known as the “Elkhart 4” — were charged with his murder and sentenced to 45 to 55 years in prison. Dr. Phil delves into Indiana’s felony murder law, which provides that if a killing occurs during the commission of a felony, the persons responsible for the felony can be charged with murder. The boys’ mothers are outraged — and many in the community agree. Speaking out for the first time, Blake, Levi and Anthony talk to Dr. Phil via satellite from behind bars. Should the felony murder law apply to adolescents? Tune in and decide for yourself: Should these teens have been charged with a lesser offense? Weigh in!

The mother of a missing newborn found dead earlier this week has been charged with murder.

Yolo County sheriff’s deputies discovered 20-day-old Justice Rees near wetlands along the Sacramento River in Knights Landing, California on Wednesday after a night of searching following a call from the boy's mother Samantha Green, who reported him missing and claimed the two had been abducted.

Now, Green, who was found in wetlands nearby bruised and crying, has been charged with murder and was picked up Saturday at around noon by authorities.

The charges against Green were announced by Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto at a news conference, according to the Los Angeles Times.

He did not give any information as to why they decided to charge Green, but did say that authorities were not able to substantiate claims that she had been abused.

'At this point here, we don’t have anyone else that was involved,' said Prieto.

'No stone was left unturned.'

An autopsy has been performed on the body of an infant found in a Yolo County slough Wednesday morning.

Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto said Thursday the baby, confirmed to be 20-day-old Justice Rees, drowned or succumbed to hypothermia due to exposure to cold water and air, according to the county coroner's preliminary examination.

There were no obvious signs of trauma on the baby's body, except small scratches received while in the brush. Justice had been dead for several hours when his body was found by the Yolo County sheriff's marine patrol unit, authorities said. The sheriff's office said Justice was apparently in good health before his death, the autopsy showed.

Several other tests are still pending, the sheriff's office said.

'Get back in': Michelle Carter urged friend Conrad Roy to kill himself, police allege (Video)

March 2, 2015 - 11:49AM

Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy. Photo: Facebook

Teenager Conrad Roy III was feeling scared and vulnerable when he got out of his idling vehicle and text messaged a friend from the car park of a suburban shopping centre in the US last year.

Mr Roy, 18, had driven to the K-Mart in Fairhaven, in Massachusetts, with the intention of taking his life, police will allege. His vehicle was filling with carbon monoxide.

But police say he climbed out of the vehicle at the last moment and contacted his friend, Michelle Carter, to tell her he was having second thoughts.

The test message that came back allegedly read: "Get back in".

Teen's family: Girl is not the 'villain' (Video)

March 1, 2015, 10:01 AM

The family of a Plainville teen accused of coaxing her friend into committing suicide last summer want people to know she is “not the villain the media is portraying her to be,” though friends interviewed by police after the tragedy described her as someone who “requires a lot of attention” and “has a history of being the ‘girl that cried wolf,’” court documents show.

~Snipped~

Carter, 18, a senior at King Philip Regional High School, faces up to 20 years behind bars on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for her alleged role in the suicide of Conrad Roy III, 18, of Mattapoisett, who was found dead July 13 inside his truck in the parking lot of a Fairhaven Kmart. Carter is accused of telling Roy to “get back in” the pickup truck when he had second thoughts about using carbon monoxide fumes to take his own life.

The picture painted by police is far different than that presented by Cataldo and Carter’s family, court documents show. When Roy’s best friend was interviewed by detectives about the “Homers for Conrad” softball fundraiser he helped organize with Carter in the months after the suicide, police say he told them he thought “she was kind of looking for attention” and at one point accused him of “taking credit for my idea.”

CHARLOTTE, New York -- A college student and son of an ESPN writer has been missing for more than a week in western New York, reports CBS New York.

Max Maisel, 21, is a junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, reports the station. He was seen by classmates leaving his campus apartment Feb. 22. Police found his car the next day, parked at a pier near lake Ontario.

His family, from Connecticut, have joined in the search.

"We don't know where Max is, and that's very hard to deal with," said Max Maisel's father, Ivan Maisel. "We have a lot more questions than we do answers."

Ivan Maisel is a sportswriter who covers college football for ESPN and previously worked at Sports Illustrated, reports the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. He told the paper his son was last seen by a passerby getting out of his car at the Charlotte Pier, an area he was familiar with because it was about a mile from his family's vacation home.

Maisel family: Search for son likely won't end well

Jeff DiVeronica, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle 7:26 p.m. EST March 1, 2015

Sunday marks one week since the disappearance of Max Maisel, the 21-year-old photography student at RIT, and while his parents and family haven't given up hope, they understand the odds.

"While (law enforcement officials) have urged us not to leap to any conclusions about Max's fate, logic indicates that it will not end well," his parents, Ivan Maisel and Meg Murray, said in a joint statement on Sunday afternoon. "We continue to be buoyed by the love and support of friends and family from across the country."

The Rochester Police Department issued a statement earlier Sunday, saying it would not be searching the Charlotte Pier area for Max Maisel on Sunday. Divers had done so earlier in the week. RPD did not say when or if the search at Charlotte will resume. That's where Max was last seen and where his vehicle was found.

The five-bedroom vacation home that sits on the shore of Lake Ontario is usually vacant this time of year. It's a beautiful house where the Maisel and Murray families gather during the summer when there is laughter and warmth in the air among mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Now there is just concern, anxiety and fear.

"We're praying very, very hard. This is the worst thing," said Meg Murray, whose 21-year-old son Max Maisel has been missing since Sunday night. "We miss him and we can't wait to see him."

Max is 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds, his parents said. The junior at Rochester Institute of Technology wears dark-rimmed glasses and his vehicle, a bronze 2004 Acura SUV, was found at the Charlotte Pier. Anyone with any information that could help police find Maisel is asked to call 911.

The search for the son of an ESPN writer is still ongoing, but weather is keeping investigators from continuing the water portion of the search.

Max Maisel, a 21-year-old junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the son of veteran ESPN college football writer Ivan Maisel, has been missing since Feb. 22. Police have been searching off the coast of Lake Ontario, near a pier where Maisel was known to frequent. But that search was suspended due to inclement weather in the area Thursday.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when Max Maisel left his apartment at Rochester Institute of Technology on Feb. 22. He got into his bronze Acura SUV and drove to the Charlotte Pier on Lake Ontario.

At the pier, a passerby spotted the 21-year-old photography student getting out of his SUV. It was about 8 p.m., and Maisel was dressed appropriately for the frigid, snowy weather.

It was the last time that anyone would see him.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post but I will gladly take it down or delete it if its not.
Back in 1990 Pamela Smart was a teacher and she was having an affair with a 15 year old Billy Flynn. She convinced him and 2 friends to murder her husband. They did. Billy Flynn went to prison with a sentence of 28 yrs. to life. He is now 41 (egads 25 yrs ago) and this Thursday will be his first attempt at parole. This was a big case at the time and before the OJ case. I believe it was televised.
