Homemade Helium Balloon with a 6 YR Old INSIDE on the loose!!...UPDATED
HLN reporting..., there is a 6 yr old boy inside a homeade helium balloon that has come loose & flying free. The 6 yr old climbed in & the tether came loose. The wind seems to have picked up and the balloon is flying very fast. The poor child must be petrified! It is a 20 ft by 5 ft aircraft.

It's also being reported that the bottom compartment isn't attached very well. There is a new conference on HLN right now. What a nightmare! Can you believe this?
Re: Homemade Helium Balloon with a 6 YR Old INSIDE on the loose!!...UPDATED
Ok, during this news conference, they are staing that the boys name is Falcon. They also state that he IS still inside the balloon. There is a helicopter surrounding the balloon.

I just hope to God that it goes down in a non populated area. I've been in a Hot Air Balloon and the scariest part was the landing. There is also no steering these things. Everything depends on the wind. When we landed, we hit a tree, went sideways for a bit. Then when we hit the ground, the basket tipped over after a pretty hard landing. We were all ok, but it was still very scary.
I pray that this ends well for this poor little boy.

6-year-old missing after balloon lands in Colorado
(CNN) -- A balloon that was set adrift by a 6-year-old boy from his parents' Colorado home was found empty, CNN affiliate KMGH said, citing a police report.
The balloon landed south of Prospect Springs, near Colorado Springs.
The boy was not inside the helium aircraft when it landed, KMGH reported.
A sibling saw the boy get into the craft Thursday morning. Officials were concerned that the boy may have fallen out of it, an undersheriff said.
Margie Martinez of the Weld County Sheriff's Office said a sibling saw Falcon Heene climb into the basket before the balloon took off from his parents' home.
Because the door on the balloon was unlocked, it's possible the boy had fallen out, Martinez said.
The balloon appeared to be a saucer-shaped, Mylar-coated helium balloon, similar to a party balloon.
The helium balloon had been tethered to the boy's family home, the Larimer County Sheriff's Department said. The boy got into the craft Thursday morning and undid the rope anchoring it.
The department said the dome-shaped balloon is 20 feet long and 5 feet high.
The structure at the bottom of the balloon that the boy is in is made of extremely thin plywood and won't withstand any kind of a crash at all," said Erik Nilsson, Larimer County emergency manager, according to CNN affiliate KMGH.
A dispatcher received a call Thursday morning, and emergency services personnel were contacted, Larimer County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Davis said.

I hope he wasn't inside. That would be a huge relief. He might have accidentally released the balloon and then took off and hid because he feared how much trouble he would be in for releasing the balloon.

I don't think the little boy would lie when they asked him why he was hiding, and he said "you said for the show", as he looked up at his dad. This dad needs to be punished for putting this kid through this, and having him hide in the attic. He was probably drilled by his dad before they were interviewed, and he didn't really know what to say. That might explain why he threw up twice during the interviews.

I am not shocked at all either. When the little boy said that, the mom looked like she was going to throw up. lol! She looked at him and said, uh, nooooo. And she looked at the dad like um, say something doofus! Of course he didn't. He just sat there. I can't wait to hear what they uncovered.
However, I do hope they really have PROOF that it was a hoax. I'd hate to hear they went on only the words of the 6 year old. Forgive me for saying this, but he seems a little slow. I just don't know what to think right now.

(CNN) -- Authorities in Colorado say criminal charges are expected to be filed against a storm-chasing father whose giant Mylar balloon ascended into the sky earlier this week -- sparking fears that his 6-year-old was aboard.
Richard Heene offers a cardboard box Saturday to receive questions about his son and about his famous balloon.
"We anticipate criminal charges will be filed sometime in the near future," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told CNN.
The development comes on the same day that Heene emerged from his Fort Collins, Colorado, house and offered a cardboard box for the media to submit questions.
"I got people e-mailing me, calling me; they've got a lot of questions, and I don't know how to quite frankly answer any of them other than I've got a box," Heene said around 10 a.m.
He said he'd answer the questions later Saturday night.
"I'm going to place the box up front. Please write your questions down," he said. "I have no idea what the news are saying. I don't have cable."
Heene did answer one question shouted out from a reporter, responding that the runaway balloon incident was "absolutely no hoax."
The situation captured the nation's attention Thursday, after authorities reported that the family's homemade helium balloon was set adrift, apparently with young Falcon Heene inside.

Wow, if this was really a hoax, he deserves everything he gets. I for one, was glued to the television, worried sick for HIS SON! I know that when I saw the video of him in the back yard, as the balloon took off, I was pretty pissed, as he stated that he was in the house when it took off. CLEARLY, he was not.

I feel so bad for the kids. The dad won't admit to anything, I guess. So, they're not sure what charges can be pursued.

Please take a moment and go back to the prior page & watch the two video's, one called "Pussified Music Video" and the other is "Dog Shit Hunt". Listen to the parents in the dog shit one. Then listen closely to the kids. I'm furious. Childrens services needs to get involved with this family and FAST! What kind of mother giggles while her children are saying "dog shit" and dad, damnit, don't even get me started on him. Telling his boy to smell his hands to see if he has dog shit on them???

Colo. sheriff calls balloon saga a hoax
He says ordeal was staged to generate publicity for a reality TV show
FORT COLLINS. Colo. - A sheriff said he was pursuing criminal charges in Colorado's "balloon boy" saga, which he described Sunday as a hoax to generate publicity for a reality TV show.
"It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt and we believe we have evidence at this point to indicate that this was a publicity stunt in hopes to better market themselves for a reality show," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters at a press conference.
Deputies searched the home of the boy's parents Saturday night, carrying away several boxes and a computer.

Balloon boy dad was evasive when asked by friend
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The father at the center of a runaway balloon investigation grew evasive when a friend asked him whether the saga that gripped millions was a hoax, the friend said.
Dean Askew told The Associated Press late Thursday that he picked up Richard Heene from the Larimer County Sheriff's Department Oct. 17, two days after the balloon incident.
"I said, 'Richard, here's the thing, you know, I need to know what's really going on so I don't put my family in harm's way,'" Askew said. "And then he's like, `What do you mean?'
"Is this a hoax?" Askew recalled saying. "Be honest, tell the truth man, damn, don't drag all these people through that. ... And he switched to something else."
Askew — who took care of two of the couple's sons while authorities frantically searched for a third, 6-year-old Falcon — said Heene refused to answer or look at him.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Messick said Friday that Askew met voluntarily with an investigator on Thursday but was not under suspicion.
Sheriff Jim Alderden has said Heene and his wife, Mayumi, are under investigation for allegedly reporting that Falcon was aboard the runaway balloon in a stunt to generate publicity for a proposed reality TV show. Criminal charges could be filed next week. The couple denies wrongdoing.
Alderden said the alleged hoax was at least two weeks in the making and that investigators were looking for potential accomplices — including the possibility that a media outlet offered the Heenes money for their story.
Askew told Mesecher, a sheriff's investigator who showed up at Askew's house during the AP interview, that he "had nothing to do with it."
Robert Thomas, who describes himself as an entrepreneur and college student, told investigators Sunday that he helped record Heene's ideas for a TV show, according to Thomas' attorney, Linda Lee. Lee said Heene had discussed a hoax involving a balloon but that Thomas had no idea any hoax would involve Heene's children.
Askew said his sons became friends with the Heene boys shortly after the Heenes moved into the Fort Collins neighborhood in 2007.
Richard Heene would occasionally help with home repairs, Askew said. He refused to accept money.
"People look out for each other like that, especially in this time of a recession," Askew said.
During the balloon chase, Askew said, he took care of the two Heene boys at the request of a victims advocate. Askew relayed the news to Brad and Ryo, the other Heene boys, that Falcon was found at home and was OK.
"They both got happy as can be," Askew said.
On Oct. 17, Richard Heene called Askew from the sheriff's department and asked if he could drive the couple home.
With reporters at the front entrance, sheriff's officials offered Heene the option of leaving by a private exit.
"He was adamant about going out in front," Askew said. "Then it just dawned on me. This man is seeking fame. ... I got angry. ... I couldn't understand why he wouldn't want to take the safe route."
Unable to return to home because investigators were executing a search warrant, the Heenes waited at Askew's house. Askew said the couple told him they took a lie detector test at the sheriff's office.
Alderden said he could not comment.

Re: Homemade Helium Balloon with a 6 YR Old INSIDE on the loose!!...UPDATED
Computers, cameras were seized at balloon boy home
DENVER — Court documents say computers, video cameras, hard drives and a picture of a flying saucer were seized during a search of the Colorado home of the family in the runaway balloon saga.
Records released Friday list 29 items taken from the Fort Collins home of Richard and Mayumi Heene. They're under investigation after reporting their 6-year-old son was in a runaway helium balloon.
The boy was later found safe at home and authorities say they believe the balloon scare was a hoax. They plan to recommend criminal charges.
The documents didn't say what investigators found on the cameras or the electronic and paper files they took.
The document say authorities also took a flight itinerary, but they don't say who the passenger was or whether the flight had taken place.

DENVER -- The mother of the 6-year-old boy once feared missing inside a runaway helium balloon admitted the whole saga was a hoax, according to court documents released Friday.
Mayumi Heene told sheriff's deputies that she and her husband Richard "knew all along that Falcon was hiding in the residence" in Fort Collins, according to an affidavit used to get a search warrant for the home.
She allegedly told investigators the incident was a hoax meant to make them more marketable to the media.
"Mayumi described that she and Richard Heene devised this hoax approximately two weeks earlier.... She and Richard had instructed their three children to lie to authorities as well as the media regarding this hoax," the affidavit said.
Richard Heene has denied a hoax. His lawyer, David Lane, said Friday he is waiting to see the evidence in the case.
"Allegations are cheap," Lane said.
Mayumi Heene's lawyer, Lee Christian, was traveling and didn't immediately respond to messages left with his office.
Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden has said he will recommend charges against the Heenes including conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities, and attempting to influence a public servant. The most serious charges are felonies and carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
Alderden said authorities also would be seeking restitution for the costs of the balloon chase, though he didn't provide a figure.
His office has said it will likely be next week before it forwards its findings to prosecutors to decide on charges.
In frantic calls to a TV station, 911 and federal aviation officials, the Heenes reported that they feared Falcon was in the homemade, saucer-like balloon when it was accidentally launched from their back yard last week.
Millions watched as media and National Guard helicopters tracked the balloon across the Colorado plains. It landed in a dusty farm field, where ground crews looked inside but found no sign of the boy.
Later, the relieved-looking couple reported Falcon had been hiding in their garage the whole time. But suspicion heated up when Falcon made a comment on CNN that sounded like "You had said we did this for a show."
Sheriff's deputies questioned the parents separately on Oct. 17, two days after the flight. Mayumi Heene told authorities "she and Richard Heene had lied to authorities on October 15, 2009 (the day of the flight)," the affidavit said.
She told investigators "that the release of the flying saucer was intentional as a hoax.... The motive for the fabricated story was to make the Heene family more marketable for future media interest," the affidavit said.
The Heenes twice had appeared on ABC's reality show "Wife Swap," and acquaintances said Richard Heene had plans for other possible shows.
The producer of "Wife Swap" had a show in development with the Heenes but said the deal is now off. The TLC cable network also said Heene had pitched a reality show months ago, but it passed on the offer.
Sheriff's officials declined to comment Friday.
Among the items taken by authorities during the home search Saturday were video cameras, computers, hard drives, a picture of a flying saucer, receipts, papers, a phone/address book and a flight itinerary. The list didn't identify the passenger, destination or date of travel.

I think those children should be taken away from that home. The father is clearly not playing with a full deck. He is harming those poor boys. In addition, he's abusing his poor wife. Why doesn't CPS step in and do something about this?

Lawyer: Colo. balloon boy parents to plead guilty
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The parents accused of pulling a spectacular hoax by reporting that their 6-year-old son had floated away aboard a helium balloon have agreed to plead guilty in a deal that could send them both to jail but protect the wife from deportation.
Richard Heene will plead guilty to attempting to influence a public servant, a felony, said his attorney, David Lane . Heene's wife, Mayumi , a Japanese citizen who could be deported if convicted of more serious charges, will plead guilty to a lesser charge of false reporting to authorities, a misdemeanor.
Lane said the threat of deportation "fueled" negotiations with prosecutors. An attorney for Mayumi Heene said her immigration status was a factor in reaching the deal but would not comment further.

The thread of deportation seems to put an end to game playing real quick. I wonder if they will have to pay any restitution for all the manpower used in chasing the balloon.

I sure wish CPS would remove those children from that home. Both parents are unfit to take care of their kids. Their Father is a nut, and their Mother is a doormat who won't protect her children.
