Re: Natalee Holloway -- Missing 5/30/05
Van Der Sloot Insisted Natalee Holloway's Mom Sign Contract to Pay Him for Info
Suspect Took $25K and Then Lied About Location of the Body
By RUSSELL GOLDMAN, JOHN QUINONES and SARAH NETTER
June 10, 2010
Joran van der Sloot's plan to extort money from the parents of missing American teenager Natalee Holloway was so brazen that he demanded her mother sign a contract pledging tens of thousands of dollars for information about where her daughter's remains could be found, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed today.
But in a heartless act of greed and deception, the Dutch playboy accepted $25,000 from Holloway's mother and then lied to her about where her daughter was buried, the affidavit states.
Van der Sloot , 22, is currently jailed in Peru for the murder of a young woman, Stephany Flores Ramirez, who he met in a Lima casino.
On the day he was arrested for murder, U.S. prosecutors in Birmingham, Ala., issued an arrest warrant for van der Sloot charging him with extortion.
The federal affidavit released today spells out for the first time how the alleged extortion scam unfolded.
U.S. prosecutors say van der Sloot contacted a person known to Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty, in March, and negotiated a price for showing him the location of the remains of the Alabama high school student who vanished during a school trip to Aruba in 2005.
Van der Sloot initially demanded $250,000, but later agreed to show the family's proxy the location of the body in Aruba for $25,000 up front and a promise of more to come.
The affidavit does not name the proxy, referred to by the government as a "cooperating witness."
During the negotiations with Twitty's go-between, "van der Sloot insisted that a written contract between him and Mrs. Twitty be prepared by the cooperating witness," according to the affidavit.
The contract was signed by Twitty, who faxed it back to the cooperating witness in New York.
Offices for lawyer John Kelly, who represented Twitty in her 2006 wrongful death civil suit against van der Sloot, are located in New York.
"Van der Sloot indicated to the cooperating witness that unless Mrs. Twitty paid the money demanded he would not tell where the remains of her daughter were hidden, nor provide any information regarding the circumstances of her death," the affidavit states.

Police: Joran van der Sloot says he knows location of Holloway's body
June 11, 2010

Lima, Peru (CNN) - Joran van der Sloot told investigators during an interrogation that he knows the location of Natalee Holloway's body, but he would neither identify the location nor say what happened to her the night of her disappearance, a Peruvian police official told CNN.
"In the interrogation done to the Dutch citizen, he says he knew the location of the corpse of the American citizen, but that he was going to explain everything to Aruban police," said Miguel Canlla, head of the homicide division of the Peruvian national police investigative unit, on Thursday.
Van der Sloot, a 22-year-old Dutch citizen, is suspected of killing a 21-year-old woman in Lima last month. Stephany Flores Ramirez was found beaten to death in a hotel room registered in van der Sloot's name. Van der Sloot was captured in Chile and returned last week to Peru, where authorities say he confessed to killing Flores.
He was twice arrested in connection with the 2005 disappearance of Holloway, but was released for lack of evidence. Holloway was on a class trip to Aruba when she went missing.

All right...so hop on a plane and get thee over to Lima...Make sure you have all your documentation and everything necessary to nail his admitted location of Natalee's body...Then call Aruba so they can check it out...If it turns out to be another of his lies then get him for lying to police and hampering an investigation...

Joran van der Sloot has told police he knows where the remains of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway can be found.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Gen. Cesar Guardia said Van der Sloot "let slip that he knew the place where this person was buried" but "would only testify before Aruba authorities."
The bombshell development came as authorities prepared to lodge murder charges against van der Sloot for the savage slaying of Stephany Flores, 21, in Lima, Peru on May 30 -- five years to the day after Holloway vanished on the Caribbean island.
Meanwhile, a newly released FBI affidavit showed how van der Sloot, 22, shook down Holloway's mom last month for $250,000 with a similar promise to tell how he killed her 18-year-old daughter and where her remains could be found -- a promise that turned out to be a lie.
Van der Sloot has been the prime suspect in the Holloway case for years and has given multiple, conflicting accounts of what happened the night met her. But he has never been charged in the case.
Desperate for money in late March, he reached out via a New York lawyer to Natalee's mom, Beth Twitty, and offered to tell the supposedly true version.
In the affidavit, unsealed in Alabama federal court yesterday, FBI Special Agent William Bryan lays out how van der Sloot exploited Twitty's grief by coldly turning her tragedy into a business transaction.
Van der Sloot on March 29 e-mailed a "cooperating witness," offering to guide him to Natalee's body, the affidavit said.
The "cooperating witness" was Twitty's lawyer, John Kelly, according to Bo Dietl, a private eye hired by the Holloway family.
The e-mail threatened that "unless Mrs. Twitty paid the money demanded, he [van der Sloot] would not disclose where the remains of her daughter were hidden," the affidavit said.
In later e-mails, he said he would take the "cooperating witness" to her body for a $25,000 down payment.
He was supposed to get the rest of the quarter-million dollars after the body was recovered and proven to be Holloway's.
Van der Sloot "insisted that a written contract between him and Ms. Twitty" be prepared by Kelly laying out the deal's terms, according to the feds. Kelly drew up the contract and faxed it to Twitty in Birmingham, Ala., where she signed it and faxed it back.
On April 15, Twitty transferred $100 from her bank account to van der Sloot's bank in the Netherlands to confirm that it "was, in fact, a good account," the affidavit said.
She then wired another $10,000 to Kelly so he could bring it to Aruba for a May 10 face-to-face meeting with van der Sloot in a hotel room. Up to a dozen FBI agents were there, secretly recording the meeting.
When van der Sloot showed up, both men signed two copies of the contract with Twitty "and took pictures of each other signing the agreement" before Kelly handed over the $10,000 in cash.
Kelly then phoned Twitty, who wired $15,000 from her Birmingham bank to van der Sloot's Netherlands account, the FBI said.
Kelly and van der Sloot then got into the lawyer's rental car and drove to a house where van der Sloot said Natalee's body had been buried, the affidavit said.
Van der Sloot told Kelly that Holloway had died on May 30, 2005, when "he had thrown her to the ground after she had attempted to stop him from leaving her," the affidavit said. "Van der Sloot claimed that when she fell, she hit her head on a rock and died as a result of the impact."
He claimed that after killing her, he contacted his father, a prominent judge who died this past February, the affidavit said. The judge supposedly went to the death scene and hid Natalee's body. A few days later, van der Sloot told Kelly "his father buried Natalee's body" in "the gravel under the foundation" of the house he showed Kelly, the affidavit said.
The FBI affidavit said gaping holes in van der Sloot's story were quickly discovered by Aruban authorities after he parted ways with Kelly. Building records show there was no foundation on the land at the time Holloway disappeared.
And in a May 17 e-mail to Kelly from van der Sloot -- then in Peru -- "van der Sloot admitted to the cooperating witness that he had lied about the location of Holloway's body," the affidavit said.
The FBI agents had more than enough evidence to charge van der Sloot with extortion after he received the money, and Aruban authorities could have detained him for his admissions of killing Holloway, Dietl told The Post.
"The FBI dropped the f---ing ball," Dietl said. "They should have insisted on him being held."
Two weeks later, he admittedly killed Flores.
Van der Sloot -- whose chest is tattooed with a Thai phrase meaning "No worries" -- is expected to be formally charged today with Flores' murder.

Unbelievable! I cant believe that he was not help after meeting with the undercover FBI... unbelievable,....
He got the money, he got his freedom and he took another life..
I imagine that Natalee's family will be a great support fr the Flores familiy... Their tragedies will likely bring them together for support..
The thought he had 15k just days before.. I wonder if he blew it all gambling? I suspect money had something to do with the death of Stephany..
I also note how Joran's excuses of killing women are always that he is victim.. How dare he say he was trying to get away from NAtalee and he pushed her to the ground where she hit her head and died.. Now he says Stephany hit him first...
Maybe after KC is convicted they can send her over there.. these 2 deserve each other..

They had better not let Joran talk to his daddy's Aruban friends!
I still think Joran has no idea what daddy and his friends did with Natalee's body...but you just let him get up with his daddy's friends on the pretense of telling them where her body is....and what I fear will happen is....they will pretend Joran told them, when actually they already know, but can't admit it.

Just wondering.... Are you thinking that daddy wud have held the burial place from Joran, and instead incorporated others to help?...
So now there wud be several ppl who wud know about the crime and where she is hidden/buried yet held back the information from Joran?
Im trying to figure out why Paulo wud have made it worse, by blabbing to others, and getting their help, yet keeping Joran (the instigator of the entire crime) in the dark?
There has always been a big reward, and I wud imagine that if someone helped discard the remains they wudnt even get jail time, (via a sweetheart deal made for improperly dealing with a corpse, especially where Paulo is now dead.... why wudnt they have already come forward?

I don't know who daddy might have told or had help him, but Joran does have a big mouth and I wouldn't be surprised if he kept the location of the remains secret from Joran.

I think Joran was left in the dark because he is a loose cannon.
I think Paulus got help from his cop buddies - or just one cop buddy who could control things within the cop regiment- and that's why no one can claim the reward for knowing where Natalee is.

Re: Natalee Holloway -- Missing 5/30/05
I've never thought Natalee was in the ocean. I don't think they would have put her anywhere they couldn't keep an eye on her remains.
I kept up with this case pretty good back in the day. I know there was talk that Natalee may have been incinerated...but I think the number of people who knew where she was put is limited, so I don't think she was incinerated.
I've always been partial to a few possible locations to where her remains are....
1) Buried inside the one fisherman hut that was NOT broken into and so, never checked.
2) Down some old abandoned well at the Esso Colony..where only some people have access to enter.
3) Put as cargo on that ship that left the docks the morning of the 31st....The Amazing Grace...that was shortly thereafter retired from service and docked in a boat graveyard on a nearby island.

Re: Natalee Holloway -- Missing 5/30/05
lies lies lies and more lies.....
No human being cud have talked about Natalee is such a disrespecting way and describing frothing and, and dumping in her water without knowing she was dead, and calling her names and continually telling the undercover PI that he wasnt lying... if an accident happened...
He is such a sickening waste of skin, I believe he knows exactly where he and his father put her... I suspect it was some kind of container where she was weighted and is in the bottom of the ocean or burned .....
I dont believe for one second he doesnt know where she is, and although I believe he has lied about how she dies, I do think it is possible that he will tell where she is with enough pressure...
I hope this will offer zero leveridge ... as soon as she is found, I hope he is shot solowly from the toes up....
He is a monster...and doesnt have a place on this earth
He should rot in hell

Van der Sloot: I've 'misused' Holloway case 'for my own advantage'
By the CNN Wire Staff
September 7, 2010 9:11 a.m. EDT
(CNN) -- In a jailhouse interview with a Dutch television station, Joran van der Sloot said he is remorseful for telling so many stories regarding the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, but once again denied culpability in the case.
"For everything that's happened since 2005, all the things said in the media and everything, I feel guilty for, yeah," van der Sloot, 22, said in the interview, portions of which were aired on NBC's "Today" on Tuesday.
The Dutch citizen is jailed in Lima, Peru, where he is awaiting trial on a murder charge in the death of Peruvian student Stephany Flores. Her body was found in May in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot, which the two were seen entering on surveillance camera video. He also is charged with a count of wire fraud and a count of extortion in Alabama for allegedly trying to extort more than $250,000 from Holloway's family in return for disclosing the location of her body.

Poor lowly Joran, he feels guilty for nothing! It pains me to watch this creep manipulate people, especially Natalee's parents. I don't see how they've kept from retaliating. It makes me think of Nicole Brown Simpson's parents. The strength it would take from parents to keep it together all the while knowing who murdered your child and then flaunted in your face in the media. This POS shouldn't be given the opportunities for interviews to TV stations, he eats it up and revels in it......and continues to spew lies that he knows the Holloways will hear. It's another form of control, abuse. Disgusting....!!

The 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway while on a graduation trip in Aruba has made numerous international headlines over the years with Natalee’s mother, Beth, leading the way in desperate attempts to find out what happened to her daughter.
Beth will tell her story, “Victim to Victor” at the AMMC’s Women’s Council’s first “Spirit of Women” event at 6 p.m. Oct. 2.
“This is a mother who found a way to cope with a devastating event that changed her life forever. She found her voice in her message ‘Victim to Victor’. Ms. Holloway wants to help others find the strength within to face life’s cruel twists,” Lois Rooney, AMMC Women’s Council president, said. “We all need role models and heroes to help us in our own devastating times. Ours may not be the same story as Beth Holloway’s, but the positive words of hope and perseverance she will share with us might just be the best medicine for our souls — the best lesson we could learn to help us fight our own despair.”

Updated: Beth Holloway reported NOT in jail in Peru
Last Update: 9/17 7:55 am
Birmingham, Al (WIAT) Just when you thought the entire Natalee Holloway-Joran van der Sloot saga couldn't get any more bizarre, it takes a turn toward the surreal.
Overnight reports in Dutch media say that Natalee Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway, was arrested for sneaking a camera into Joran van der Sloot's Peruvian prison. She was there in the company of Dutch crime reporter Peter de Vries, famous for several hidden camera "confessions" in which van der Sloot admitted a variety of stories about the fate of Natalee five years ago on a graduation trip to Aruba.
There appears little doubt from a variety of international sources that DeVries and Beth Holloway where, indeed, in van der Sloot's prison cell and that they were, indeed, thrown out after the discovery of a hidden camera.
There are, however, conflicting reports about whether Beth Holloway is in custody although, apparently, she was detained for a short time after discovery of the camera.

It breaks my heart to know that a mother is so very tortured by the suspect in her daughter's murder, that he can continue to have such a profound control and effect on her well-being. My greatest fear for her is that she will never find some form of peace in her life - that directly or indirectly, Joran will continue to haunt her every waking moment. I pray that she will somehow reach a point where he no longer has any control in her life. So very sad.

Van der Sloot Aided by Holloway Mom Visit?
NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2010
~Snipped~
Michael Griffith, an international criminal attorney, said on "The Early Show on Saturday Morning" that Twitty did a very inappropriate thing.
"She used very bad judgment," Griffith said, adding that her visit could hurt her case against van der Sloot. "She's a complainant in a case in Alabama for extortion, where van der Sloot (allegedly) took money from her. Since she's a possible witness, this could be construed as possible witness tampering. I don't know what he said to her, but even if he was inclined to speak to her, by bringing ... the reporter who had already once tricked van der Sloot into giving a confession, I'm sure he would have shut up seeing him there with Mrs. Twitty."
Griffith added it's unlikely Twitty will face charges for her contact with van der Sloot, but it could "certainly" hurt her case in the U.S. for extortion.

What kills me is that Urine Vanderslut continues to torment Beth and all of Natalee's friends/family.
Something I never understood about OJ was that right or wrong (because I don't have the strength or the energy to debate that now) he was found not guilty of murdering Ron and Nicole. But, if he was innocent, why torment the Goldmans and the Brown's for decades? I mean, he went out of his way to make their life as miserable as humanly possible.
If he was guilty and got away with it, again, why torment the Goldmans and the Browns? It made no sense. That in itself convinced me that OJ had no soul, no conscious, no redeeming qualities as a human being.
Same thing with Joran. He is a sadist. The only gratification he seems to be able to get is by tormenting others. It's just SICK.

Beth Holloway on Dutch TV show Sunday
Last Update: 3:03 am
Beth Holloway will talk about Joran van der Sloot's attempt to extort money from the family in exchange for information about the death of her daughter Natalee.

Beth Holloway, mother of missing American teen Natalee Holloway, says she felt compelled to break into a Peru prison to confront Joran van der Sloot, the man suspected in the case of her daughter's 2005 disappearance.
Holloway describes being in Peru to visit the family of van der Sloot's alleged murder victim Stephany Flores Ramirez, 21, when a Dutch news crew offered her a chance to confront the suspect for the first time.
"You know you can't plan on doing something. That [opportunity] presented itself … and it was something that I felt, 'How could I not do it?' " she tells The Insider in an interview to begin airing Friday. "You know, I've traveled all this way."

Natalee Holloway's Mom Speaks on Joran Van Der Sloot's Alleged Extortion Plot
Beth Twitty Speaks in Documentary: Van Der Sloot 'Was Ready to Tell the Truth'
By JOHN QUINONES, SARAH KUNIN and LEE FERRAN
Nov. 1, 2010
~Snipped~
In the Dutch documentary, Twitty said that van der Sloot reached out to her nearly five years after her daughter disappeared, offering information that would lead to Holloway's remains for the right price.
"I want to do something good," van der Sloot wrote in an e-mail to Twitty's lawyer, John Kelly, according to Twitty. "This is a hurtful situation for all of us and it will stay this way until it's over. I will bring you to Natalee, but the information that comes from me has to remain a secret. In return, I want to receive $250,000. If you're interested, I'll give you more details."
"I'm thinking, OK, if this is the way that I can get her remains, then I'm in," Twitty said.
Kelly, however, was convinced the offer was a scam and asked van der Sloot to Fed Ex him a bone fragment to be tested for Holloway's DNA. Van Der Sloot refused.
Still desperate, Twitty said she paid van der Sloot $25,000, but never received any information. Instead, van der Sloot traveled to Peru where a few weeks later he was arrested and charged in the murder of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman.

'Tell me where she is': After five years, Natalee Holloway's desperate mother comes face to face with Joran Van der Sloot
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 1:02 PM on 6th November 2010
The mother of American teenager Natalee Holloway came face-to-face with her suspected killer Joran van der Sloot in a long-awaited prison confrontation.
After five years, Beth Holloway got the chance to confront him over the disappearance of her beloved daughter, who is believed to have died while travelling in Aruba.
She visited van der Sloot at Peru's notorious Miguel Castro Castro jail, where he is in solitary confinement as he awaits trial for the brutal slaying of Peruvian Stephanie Flores.
Hidden cameras followed the brave mother inside the jail and caught the dramatic confrontation.
High-profile Dutch crime reporter Peter De Vries was also involved in the confrontation.
It was first reported on in September that Mrs Holloway had snuck into the prison to confront Van der Sloot - but now footage and what was said has been revealed for the first time.
Prior to the meeting, De Vries had fitted Mrs Holloway with a hidden microphone to capture every word of her conversation. Four more covert cameras were set up in the prison ward's office.
Van der Sloot, 23, was completely unaware he was being recorded and monitored in a nearby room and had no idea Mrs Holloway was visiting. Prison officials had complied with the covert operation.

Dutch forensic experts are testing a piece of bone found on the Caribbean island of Aruba to see if it comes from missing American teenager Natalee Holloway, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Experts first will establish whether the bone is human before comparing its DNA to that of Holloway, said Netherlands Forensic Institute spokeswoman Inge Oevering.

Natalee Holloway Update: Tests May Soon Tell if Bone Found on Aruba Beach is Human
November 17, 2010
Posted by Edecio Martinez
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (CBS/WIAT/AP) Investigators could know as early as today whether the bone found on a beach in Aruba is the key to solving the five-year mystery of what happened to Natalee Holloway, according to a report.
According to CNN, Dutch forensic experts are testing the piece of bone to determine whether the bone is human before comparing its DNA to that of Holloway.
The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf is reporting that what appears to be a human jawbone was found by tourists on the beach near the Phoenix Hotel. The site where the bone was found is near one of several locations mentioned by Joran van der Sloot in a series of interviews and "confessions" he later rescinded, reports CBS affiliate WIAT.
De Telegraaf says Aruban Chief Prosecutor Peter Blanken is in the Netherlands but had no comment on the case. Although the age of the bone has not been determined there are reportedly intact teeth on the bone, reports CNN.
Holloway, then 18, disappeared in 2005 while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Her remains have never been found, despite extensive police searches. If the bone turns out to be from Holloway, it would be the first concrete evidence of her death.
Netherlands Forensic Institute spokeswoman Inge Oevering said prosecutors in Aruba will announce the results of the tests. She could not say how long the tests would take.
Dutchman Joran van der Sloot is the last person seen with Holloway and is considered the prime suspect in her disappearance. Van der Sloot is in jail in Lima, Peru charged with killing Stephany Flores, a woman murdered five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance.
Van der Sloot has told several people he was involved in Holloway's disappearance, only to later retract his confessions. He has also admitted in interviews that he is a pathological liar.
Aruban prosecutors have said they lack evidence to charge van der Sloot in Holloway's death.

If there were teeth, I suspect dental records wud be quicker than DNA ...at least to be eliminated..
I suspect Natalee is finally home..
I hope they have closed off that part of the beach...
I dont blame Beth for doing anything that she has done...
If getting publicity for her book, means one more person will hear the story, I understand...
I hope thys is Natalee so Beth and the family can lay her to rest....

Re: Natalee Holloway -- Missing 5/30/05
I feel the same, AJ. I pray this is Natalee so her family can FINALLY have some peace in her death. And if it is Natalee, I sure hope they are able to find more than just the one jawbone. However, if they are not, at least Beth and Dave will know for certain that there is no chance their beautiful daughter will come home alive.
Not the ending they had hoped for, certainly, but one I imagine at this point they pray for.
God bless Natalee and her family.

Authorities await DNA test on bone in Holloway case
By the CNN Wire
November 18, 2010 2:04 a.m. EST
CNN) -- Investigators now hope to learn Thursday whether a jawbone found on an Aruban beach belongs to an animal or a human.
The tests on the bone were expected to be returned Wednesday but investigators were held up by a technical delay.
If the bone is human, authorities will then attempt to find out using a DNA match whether it belongs to missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, who was last seen on the island in 2005.
It is being evaluated at the Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague, Netherlands, Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken said this week.
