FBI joins search for girl missing from NH town

STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. (AP) — The disappearance of an 11-year-old girl from her house just a mile from the Canadian border rattled nerves in her small town Wednesday as crews searched the Connecticut River and cordoned the house with police tape .

Celina Cass was last seen in her house at a computer around 9 p.m. Monday and was gone the next morning, authorities said. Police have said that there's no indication she ran away or that someone took her, and there are no signs of a struggle.

On Wednesday, the FBI joined the investigation into Celina's disappearance and prosecutors from the attorney general's office arrived in Stewartstown and took charge of it.

"We are still desperately looking for her," said Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young, who typically handles homicide cases.

Celina Cass, an 11 year old 5th grader at Stewartstown Community School, has vanished from her small-town New Hampshire home Monday night, July 25th, where she lives with her mother, step-father and sister. Now the FBI has reportedly joined the search effort and speculation as to a possible abduction are mounting. While search teams continue to search the immediate area of deeply forested woods and waterways, the mystery of her disappearance has an aura that one community member called “creepy” according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

So far, little to no clues have surfaced as to her whereabouts. The only solid clue released to the public at this time is where she was last seen and by whom. Family members recall that she was on the computer, around 9 pm last Monday night and hasn’t been seen since. Family and friends say she was happy and wouldn’t have left home on her own. Her close friends describe her as a responsible student and friend.

Celina Cass’ Facebook page remains eerily live at the time of this news report, with her wall set for public viewing. A barrage of posts about her being in love could present further clues as the search for this young girl continues.

Missing New Hampshire Girl: Authorities to Talk to Every Person in Town

New Hampshire authorities plan to talk to every person in the tiny town of Stewartstown, N.H., for clues about Celina Cass' whereabouts.

"Every house, every individual in the neighborhood is being spoken to," said Jane Young, New Hampshire's assistant attorney general.

More than 100 searchers are now involved in the manhunt for the 11-year-old girl who was last seen in her bedroom at her computer on Monday night. The FBI is involved in the search and so are the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The town of just 800 people is only a mile from Canada.

So far, this extraordinary effort has turned up nothing.

"I can tell you actually what we have not learned and that is where is Celina Cass now," said Kiernan Ramsey of the FBI's New Hampshire office.

Ramsey remained hopeful.

"We're using advanced techniques from aviation to canines and the like. We are hopeful some positive outcome could result," Ramsey said.

I did learn that there will be dive teams going to the area on Sunday to conduct a search.

Its interesting to note that a few days ago the news reported that this man said he and Cass' mother were grieving and wanted to be left alone. Grieving when there is hope she is alive?

Seems that the body has been confirmed as Celina's.

According to several media outlets, Cass's stepfather was taken to a hospital Monday morning. MSNBC reported that Wendell Noyes was taken by ambulance after repeatedly laying down in the family's driveway and rolling around, and video showed him dropping to his knees in the driveway and then laying face-down, with his head resting on his hands.

A spokeswoman for Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, in Colebrook, N.H., said she couldn't comment on whether Noyes was taken to the hospital.

In 2003, Noyes was involuntarily committed to New Hampshire Hospital in Concord after he entered his girlfriend's house in the middle of the night and threatened to throw her down stairs, according to court documents. An order signed by a probate judge indicated Noyes suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and believed corrections officials implanted a transmitter in his body to keep track of him.

A court motion filed by his attorney at the time indicated Noyes served in Operation Desert Shield before receiving a medical discharge from the Air Force because of schizophrenia. The attorney didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

I think that the episode in the driveway is to help lay the framework for an insanity defense. He knew there were cameras there. Knew it would be seen and there would be video of it. His FB doesn't read of an insane person, just a perv.

I am not sure where people are sleuthing it, but they are saying that Noyes is related to two SOs. A brother and a cousin or something? I have no idea how people look that stuff up, but there is a thread on a page on FB that is a string of comments on something Noyes posted on some (probably fake) young and hot girl's page.

Celina Cass autopsy doesn't bring answers

CBS/WBZ/AP) TEWARTSTOWN, N.H.- Authorities say the autopsy on the body of Celina Cass, which was recovered Monday morning from the Connecticut River, did not reveal what killed the 11-year-old New Hampshire girl.

The autopsy was conducted Tuesday but didn't determine a cause of death and further study is required, Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said.


Meanwhile, the girl's hometown is expected to move forward with its annual children's festival called Stewartstown Days. It's scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Stewartstown residents had considered canceling it but they are now dedicating the event to her memory.

Police investigating the suspicious death of 11-year-old Celina Cass focused on the fifth grader's home today, taking a truck that neighbors said was driven by the girl's stepfather.

Investigators hauled away a silver pickup truck from the Cass home this afternoon, part of their continued search for evidence and witnesses.

Neighbor Shannon Towle told ABCNews.com that Wendell Noyes, Celina's stepfather, drives a truck matching that description. She often sees Noyes at her husband's West Stewartstown store, Towles Mini Mart, where he is a regular customer.

"I know he drives a pickup," she said. "It's silver."

She said in the small town of 800 the fact that he drives a silver pickup is "common knowledge."

"Meanwhile, Jeanine Brady, a family friend and the employer of Celina's mother, said the girl's body had been turned over to the family and that a private service was being planned. Brady wouldn't say where or when the service would be held. Public memorial services could be held at a later date."

It is likely that she knew her killer.

Analysis of statements made by the step father, Wendell Noyes, indicate a knowledge or belief that Celina was deceased while yet missing, and an attempt to blame Celina for having gone missing when he said "get your butt home!" with its implied consequence. These concerning statements along with his behavior draw suspicion upon him. Has he sought refuge in a mental hospital? Recall that he was able to beat criminal charges against him when declared incompetent to stand trial......

I agree that there is definitely fishiness in this family and I appreciated that the blog indicated that there should be further investigation for the safety of the other daughter.

Thanks kh, I enjoy reading his blog. I came across an article yesterday and a local that lives there and knows all of these people wrote a long comment about all of them. Violent criminals, all of the men Celina's mother had around her and in her home with her daughter. I can't find it now. He listed all of their crimes and others agreed they were facts. I meant to post it, but got busy...still searching.

Since the beginning of this the impression was given that just the parents lived in the home of these girls and then it was another man who lived with them, and then I found this article:

CANAAN, Vt. — Family members and friends are gathering to mourn the loss of a northern New Hampshire girl in the school gymnasium where she played basketball.

Eleven-year-old Celina Cass, whose body was found week ago in the Connecticut River, was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Lancaster on Monday.

The celebration of her life was scheduled Monday night at the Canaan School gymnasium with more than 200 people expected to attend.

Samples of the girl’s art work as well as photographs, stuffed animals, and notes and other keepsakes sat on tables that flanked the podium where a picture of Cass was placed.

THERE WERE PHOTOS and flowers, memories and music when hundreds came out Monday night to celebrate the life of 11-year-old Celina Cass.

“There are no magic words that can take away the pain,” the Rev. Craig Cheney said a few minutes before the gathering. It was held at a school just across the Connecticut River from Stewartstown, N.H., where Celina lived and where her suspicious death remains under investigation.

“This is a celebration of life for the family and friends and everyone who has ever known and been touched by her,” said Kirsten Lyons, the nurse at Stewartstown Community School, where Cass would have joined her eight other classmates as a fifth-grader next month.

The tribute came just a few hours after her funeral Monday afternoon, about 50 miles south. In Lancaster, about 100 people gathered to bid good-bye to a girl who loved her white kitten and was just learning to do cartwheels.

Details on Celina’s last night alive described

So much has been said during the past two weeks about what happened on the last night that Celina Cass was seen alive in her Washington Street home in West Stewartstown.

The weekly newspaper, the Colebrook Chronicle, published a review of the last night of Celina’s life in its issue today, in conjunction with today’s edition of The Telegraph.

According to a source close to the family, Celina and her mom, Louisa Noyes, were sitting on the couch in the living room watching “The Secret Life of An American Teenager” together on the ABC Family Channel. When the show was over at 9 p.m., Celina decided to watch another show and was also back and forth on the family computer, which was in the living room. Louisa Noyes said goodnight to her daughter, and went upstairs to go to sleep.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — More than two weeks after searchers pulled the body of 11-year-old Celina Cass from the Connecticut River near her house, the lack of an arrest and answers to questions about how she died have cast a pall over her New Hampshire hometown.

Sad and edgy, residents of Stewartstown are waiting — for answers about the girl, justice for her family, peace of mind for themselves. The police's inability to charge a suspect, an autopsy that couldn't pinpoint what killed her and the lingering fear that a killer is at large are hanging over folks in the one-stoplight burg with 960 residents near the Canadian border.

"Everybody's still uncomfortable, wanting some answers," said Shannon Towle, whose family owns a convenience store and gas station where people gather. "It's just creepy."

Police say the investigation is active, with the results of toxicology tests on the girl's body pending. Experts say that may go a long way toward helping identify or charge a suspect.

A month to the day when Celina Cass vanished from her rural New Hampshire home, friends of the 11-year-old gathered tonight to launch balloons and place fresh flowers at the dam where divers found her body after an exhaustive search through the North Country.

Their quiet tribute served as a means of grieving — particularly for a handful of young friends who felt a public memorial weeks ago was too soon — and allowed them to keep Celina’s memory in the public’s mind at a time when word of developments in the criminal investigation has waned.

“I can’t let the story go without answers,” said Stewartstown mom Debbie Baglio, who helped organize tonight’s gathering. “I can’t let this little girl go.”

WEST STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. -- The mother of an 11-year-old girl whose body was found a week after she disappeared from her West Stewartstown home said Tuesday that she's desperate for answers.

Celina Cass was reported missing in July, and her body was pulled out of the Connecticut River on Aug. 1. The girl's mother and stepfather said they put her to bed one night, and the next morning, she was gone.

Since then, an autopsy has come back inconclusive, and no arrests have been made. Investigators said they are still waiting for toxicology reports to come back.

WEST STEWARTSTOWN - After further investigation and receiving toxicology results, Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duval, M.D., has ruled Celina Cass's manner of death to be a homicide.

While Dr. Duval also has determined the cause of death of Celina Cass, that result is not being made public at this juncture, according to the Attorney General's Office.

"The premature public disclosure of Cass's cause of death could have an impact on the integrity of the investigation in a negative manner," authorities said. "The investigation into the facts and circumstances of Celina Cass's murder remains active."

The attorney general's office announced Thursday that the death of Celina Cass, 11, was a homicide after it received toxicology reports. But officials wouldn't reveal the cause of her death, saying that it could hurt the investigation.

Marcia Laro, the mother of Celina's biological father, said her family first learned of the latest developments when they got a call from the attorney general's office.
