Celina Cass, the 11-year-old New Hampshire girl found dead last month a week after she vanished from her home, was murdered, New Hampshire officials said yesterday.

Officials, however, aren’t making public the toxicology results or the cause of Cass’ death, saying the premature release of such details could negatively affect the investigation.

Celina Cass, the 11-year-old New Hampshire girl found dead along the Connecticut River last month, was murdered, officials announced today based on toxicology results.

The girl’s body was found Aug. 1 about a quarter mile from her home in West Stewartstown, N.H., a small town near the borders with Canada and Vermont. But after autopsy results proved inconclusive, the cause of her death remained a mystery — until today.

COLEBROOK, N.H. — Celina Cass’ heartbroken mother is disputing her estranged husband’s account of the night the slain 11-year-old vanished, saying he wasn’t in bed early but instead was up drinking with friends at their West Stewartstown home.

“He was visiting on the porch with two friends. They were drinking on the porch. They were socializing,” Louisia Noyes said yesterday of Celina’s stepfather, Wendell Noyes. Louisia Noyes told a TV interviewer last month that she and her husband had split up since Celina’s killing.

Wendell Noyes — who has not been identified as a suspect in the homicide probe — said in his earlier TV interview he had nothing to do with Celina’s murder and believed an intruder was to blame.

STEWARTSTOWN — More than two months after divers pulled an 11-year-old West Stewartstown girl’s body from the Connecticut River, investigators continue to diligently gather evidence to bring charges against those involved in the murder, a state prosecutor said,

“Sometimes cases are more challenging and difficult to solve than others. This case presents more challenges. That doesn’t mean we aren’t still working and striving to bring the person or persons involved to justice,” Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane E. Young said.

It has been two and a half months since the body of Celina Cass was pulled from the Connecticut River in West Stewartstown. The circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery, and authorities have not identified any people of interest, but her death has been ruled a homicide.

Guest laments leaving Celina’s house on fateful night

One of the last people to see Celina Cass alive says she feels “a lot of guilt” that she visited the New Hampshire girl’s home the night she disappeared but failed to protect the 11-year-old from whoever killed her.

“If I’d have stayed there an extra hour, maybe nothing would have happened,” Cassandra Hunt of West Stewartstown, N.H., told the Herald. “It’s hard to live with that.”

Hunt, who lives near the home Celina shared with her family, said neither she nor another guest saw anything that caused them to worry about the little girl the night of July 25.

Were the two people mentioned in above post the two that the mom said her husband was drinking with the night before Celina disappeared? If so, why was he drinking with a woman or two and his wife wasn't with them? Or were there also two men there drinking with him, and Cassandra Hunt and another guest (maybe another woman) were visiting with the mom? Too many questions about these two.

A Christmas tree will decorate Celina Cass' grave as her grieving loved ones await word on who will be called to account for the summer slaying of their sweet 11-year-old North Country girl.

Her mother, Louisia Noyes, visited the grave last week to see the newly placed donated tombstone with Celina's face exquisitely etched in black granite.

“It's hard, very hard,” Noyes said in a telephone interview. “I want my baby home for Christmas, and she won't be.”

Noyes plans to carry a small, decorated Christmas tree to Celina's grave sometime today.

GROVETON, N.H. -- The day after Christmas will mark five months since 11-year-old Celina Cass was reported missing from West Stewartstown. Her body was recovered from the Connecticut River a week later.

No arrests have been made in the case that continues to unsettle the closely knit North Country community.

A headstone was recently installed at Celina’s grave by a local man who offered it as a gift to the girl's mother, Louisia, and her family.

A young man living in Celina Cass’ home in West Stewartstown before her murder last summer has been jailed on several charges, including the forgery of the name of Cass’ mother, the New Hampshire Union Leader has learned.

Kevin Mullaney, 23, of Lemington, Vt., has been in the Coos County jail in West Stewartstown since Jan. 10. He is being held on $31,000 cash bail on charges unrelated to the homicide of the 11-year-old girl.

Two people who saw Celina Cass at her West Stewartstown apartment the night before she was reported missing — and may have been among the last to see her alive — said they have been told by the authorities not to speak with the media.

Cassandra Hunt and Jason Atwood visited Celina's stepfather, Wendell Noyes, on the porch at 863 Washington St. while Celina played on the computer and watched television inside in the nearby living room on the evening of July 25, 2011. A massive search was launched the following day.

Stewartstown readies rally for murdered girl

Justice for Celina.

That’s what everyone who loves Celina Cass wants for the murdered 11-year-old North Country girl. As the one-year anniversary of her death nears, Celina’s community plans a candlelight vigil to tell the world she has not been forgotten.

T-shirts have just been printed with her picture and those words — "Justice for Celina" — that many plan to wear to the vigil in the West Stewartstown town square on July 26 at 7 p.m.

Townspeople say they are angry no one has been arrested in connection with Celina’s slaying, that there is a murderer on the loose who may still be among them.

I wonder where Wendall Noyes is living these days and if he still flees to the loony-bin when the pressure is on. IIRC, he admitted himself to a psychiatric unit when Celina was found. Am I imagining he received a medical discharge from the military?

Kevin Mullaney...hmmm...I'm curious if LE pressured him to spill what happened that night and if the DA offered him a deal he wouldn't accept, knowing he'd serve less time for the charges against him as opposed to 'new' charges that would come along with him spilling what happened that night.

I find it so very disturbing Celina's mother and sister left photo albums and pics of Celina behind.

1 year later, no arrest in missing NH girl's death

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Nearly a year after an 11-year-old girl vanished from her northern New Hampshire home and was found slain a week later, no arrests have been made, and investigators still aren't revealing any details about her death.

The anniversary of Celina Cass' disappearance and death has brought media back to West Stewartstown, population 800, but locals say the fear and anxiety never subsided.

"It's not an old wound," says Shannon Towle, owner of the local convenience store. She says she and others are rankled daily by the lack of an arrest.

The stepfather of an 11-year-old New Hampshire girl whose disappearance and murder has remained unsolved for nearly five years was arrested Monday and charged with the girl’s death.

Wendell Noyes, now 52, lived with Celina Cass in an apartment in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire, when she disappeared the night of July 26, 2011. A massive manhunt ensued, and her body was later found August 1 in the Connecticut River, just a half-mile from her home.

Noyes is charged with second-degree murder, New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster said in a statement. Investigators say he killed his stepdaughter by submerging her body in the river.
