What About Stacy Peterson?

Though Peterson was never charged in Stacy's disappearance, many believe he had a role in her vanishing.
"Stacy's case is next, no matter what," Bosco told reporters Thursday after a seven-man, five-woman jury found Peterson guilty in Savio's death. "We still have to pay the price for Stacy. I still believe that's around the corner."
Stacy Peterson's sister, Cassandra Cales, said the family is in constant contact with police and hopes someone will come forward with new information. "This is the first step," Cales said.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
just getting in, this is glorious news. I have been so concerned there might be a hung jury.
DP will likely D I E in jail, a just verdict...imo. I have to wonder if it was worth it to him to cause his children so much pain, pain that is going to last them forever. He took 2 mother's from their children, all 4 have no parent's at all imo, yea, DP'S son can drag the minor kids up to see ''big daddy,'' but to miss the unconditional love mother's give their children makes me so sad for the Peterson children. I am greatful he can no longer intrude/control anything in their lives except through letters and as the children get older, they may lose interest in their dad, they were so small when Stacy disappeared and DP has been jailed a long time.
I clearly expect the defense team to piss and moan, demanding an appeal, imo, there maaay be areas that may be considered for one, but, imo, DP would be convicted again.
KATHLEEN GOT JUSTICE.. a long time coming.....

Does Drew Defense Have Case for Appeal?
By BJ Lutz & Phil Rogers
NBCChicago.com

The attorneys for convicted murderer Drew Peterson said there's no doubt the case will be heard on appeal, calling it a "dark day in America" when someone can be convicted on hearsay evidence.
snipped:
Attorney Sam Adam Jr., who didn't work on the Peterson case, said that no matter what happens in the appellate court, the case will almost certain to go all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
"This is a brand new law," said Adam. "The crime was committed, they changed the law and then allow it to be used in the crime prior to that law taking effect."
Peterson will be sentenced Nov. 26.

Julie, this is of little suprise. imo, the Prosecutor's got the job done but they weren't great Prosecutor's. Glasgow was less than impressive but I am so greatful for the guilty verdict. The Prosecutor's screwed several things up that are going to come back on them in the appeal process. Too, the ''Drew's Law'' is going to come into question, and it may go all the way to the Supreme Court, but, hell, imo, as long as DP continues to be locked up I don't care, today I am thrilled over the conviction.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
Peterson will try, but attorneys say successful appeal is unlikely
Few appeals lead to new trials; lawyers say murder conviction is 'solid'
Drew Peterson could claim in an appeal that his defense team, led by Joel Brodsky, center, provided him with ineffective legal counsel. (Zbigniew Bzdak, Chicago Tribune / September 6, 2012)
By Steve Mills, Chicago Tribune reporter
September 7, 2012
Drew Peterson will inevitably appeal his murder conviction, and his lawyers will just as inevitably raise several grounds for a new trial, from missteps by the team of Will County prosecutors to claims that Peterson's own attorneys provided him ineffective counsel.
One of Peterson's attorneys, Joseph Lopez, even spoke after the verdict was read of taking the appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
But Peterson's chances, several lawyers said, are not good. While many appeals are filed in criminal cases — thousands every year in Illinois' appellate courts — only a small percentage lead to new trials.
Indeed, not all errors lead to new trials. Most, according to attorneys, are deemed harmless by the appellate courts.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
Although in most cases defendants don't get appeals, in this case, it has been said through out is like no other. Most the the State's case was hearsay evidence, I find it hard to believe that an attorney is not going to argue that point. Hearsay is very rarely ever let in a murder trial, but, in this case, most of the hear say evidence was allowed in. I am certainly greatful it was but I don't know that this isn't going to be appealed and argued all the way to the Supreme Court.
Sadly, we haven't heard the last from this POS but luckily for us, sometimes appeals take years and they can still be denied or worse case scenario, I don't see DP being successful even if he got a new trial. jmo.

Holdout Juror in Peterson Trial Says Hearsay Evidence Swayed Him
Ron Supalo said lack of physical evidence was a big problem for him
By BJ Lutz and Courtney Copenhagen | Thursday, Sep 6, 2012 | Updated 10:14 PM CDT
Ron Supalo says it was the hearsay testimonies by Rev. Neil Schori and attorney Harry Smith that cleared the picture for him.
By the end of the first day of deliberations in the Drew Peterson murder trial, juror Ron Supalo says there was just a single panelist preventing the group from making a unanimous decision -- him.
"I wanted to sleep on it," he said. "I had to rethink everything I wanted to ask today in my mind and then research it the best I could."
Supalo said he didn't get much sleep, and when he returned to the courthouse Thursday morning he spent the first part of the day reviewing his courtroom notes and discussing with the other jurors the approximately 10 nagging questions he had.

Drew Peterson Verdict: 'Holdout' juror talks to ABC 7
Updated at 10:27 PM today
By Stacey Baca
September 6, 2012 (JOLIET, Ill.) (WLS) -- One juror needed a second day of deliberations before convicting Drew Peterson in the 2004 murder of his third-wife, Kathleen Savio.
"The one hold out was me, and, I was concerned about the hearsay evidence and circumstantial evidence, and I needed more time to think about it," Ron Supalo, juror, said.
Supalo said the jurors took three votes on Wednesday, the first day of deliberations. Seven believed Peterson was guilty on that first vote; eight in the second vote; and 11 in the third.
~Snipped~
"They had come to the point where they were beyond a reasonable doubt," he told ABC7. "I thought it looked suspicious, but I was the only one that was not beyond a reasonable doubt yet.
After five more hours of deliberations, Supalo said he also determined that Peterson was guilty.

Over and above the good news that a killer is firmly behind bars and that an appeal will take years to work its way through the system, this outcome has also been instrumental in highlighting that circumstantial evidence counts.
So to the Pinellas jury who believed they needed a video recording of kc killing and disposing of Caylee before they could find her guilty ... I hope by now they've realised just how badly they messed up.

Having lived in both areas, I think you pretty much summed up the general difference between the two. Chicago more corrupt, but citites in FL are overwhelmed with the underqualified. JMO.

This guy has balls the size of Chicago. Considering Petereson allegedly attempted to hire a hitman, I'm not sure I'd be waving my face all over tv saying "I'm the one who made this all go down...". Even Bashara tried to hire a hitman from behind bars, so it's not out of the question.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
Drew Peterson Trial Verdict Fallout: Appeal Certain; Juror Said Hearsay Evidence Convicted Peterson
By Chuck Sudo in News on September 7, 2012 9:15 AM
Drew Peterson’s defense team took a “What? Me Worry?” approach after their client was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio Thursday afternoon. When the attorneys weren’t tripping over each other to shout sound bites at the mass of recorders and microphones in front of them, they all agreed that they had a strong case for appeal and were confident the verdict would be overturned.
Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky, who was almost as flippant as Peterson throughout the saga, tried to make lemonade out of lemons. “You know what they say, a conviction is the first step in a successful appeal,” he said
The reason for such optimism was the hearsay evidence used in the trial. Eleven of the 12 Peterson jury members refused to speak to the press—maybe they weren’t appropriately dressed for their close-up—but the one who did said it was hearsay statements that convicted Peterson.
Juror Ron Supalo told the Chicago Sun-Times, “Without hearsay evidence would I have found him not guilty? Yes. A lot of the jurors said that, too. They were either on the fence or they thought he was innocent. And then with those two hearsay witnesses, bam.”

Drew Peterson’s son slams verdict, mom’s family
September 6, 2012 8:54PM
The Peterson drama . . .
The sad irony of the guilty verdict in the Drew Peterson murder trial: The sons of Drew Peterson and the woman he has been found guilty of killing, Kathleen Savio, will not be celebrating the courtroom victory with Savio’s family.
Savio’s sons, Thomas and Kristopher, refuse to believe their father is guilty of the crime.
A statement given exclusively to Sneed by Peterson’s son, Thomas — via his father’s attorney Joel Brodsky — is full of disappointment and anger following his father’s guilty verdict Thursday afternoon.
Thomas, who testified on his father’s behalf, stated via a telephone conversation with Brodsky:
“I am extremely disappointed in the Savio and Cales families. This concerns my mother and my father. And they have no right to be acting in a manner in which they are. Even when my mother was alive, my grandfather, Henry Savio, had nothing to do with me, my mother and my brother (Kristopher). Neither did my aunts ... I know lawyers will continue to fight and continue to support my father.”
Meanwhile, Thomas posted this on Facebook: To say the least ... I’m extremely disappointed. During the past 5 years ...

James Glasgow told Beth that one important piece of evidence that was excluded from the trial was that Stacy told Pastor Schori that Drew had told her that he hit Kathleen on the head to make her death appear as an accident. The reason why that part of the testimony was excluded was because it fell within the scope of marital privilege.

Julie,as great as it would be for charges to be brought against DP for Stacy's disappearance and probable murder, imo, they don't have the evidence to do so. I saw an interview just last night w/one of Stacy's family members and they are pleading with the public to come forward if they have any evidence. The biggest problem imo is the lack of remains being found.. In Kathleen's death there was a crime scene and in Stacy's there is none.
There is no doubt in my mind DP murdered Stacy because he feared she would tell what she knew about Kathleen's murder and he disposed of Stacy's remains. Further complicating Stacy's disappearance is that her mother disappeared in a similiar fashion. I had read awhile back that both Stacy and her sister felt their mother's live-in-boyfriend was responsibile. The old saying, ''it's not what you know, it's what you can prove in court'' is going to be the problem for the Proseutor's I am afraid, it's too damn much to hope/pray DP would do the right thing and tell where he buried her.

Spoken like true male spawns of a male narcissist. Tottally expected given their years of psychological abuse from a sociopathic father.
They focus more on their own feelings than to show empathy for families who have forever lost their loved one -- and who have reportedly said that Peterson forced his multiple wives to systematically cut off contact with their maternal relatives -- a very typical maneuver of an abusive controlling partner. Rather than factor this into their alleged accusation of "detachment", they redirect blame rather than accept the fact that they have been abandoned by their own father years ago when he neglected to put their true best interest at heart.
They are already set on their own courses of disaster and narcissism and we are watching it all unfold here. They likely went to preschool with Josh Powell.

I think more pastors ought to encourage their patrons to tell such damning evidence to someone who does not fall under those privalege categories. For this exact reason.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
Drew Peterson’s defense team took a “What? Me Worry?” approach after their client was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio Thursday afternoon. When the attorneys weren’t tripping over each other to shout sound bites at the mass of recorders and microphones in front of them, they all agreed that they had a strong case for appeal and were confident the verdict would be overturned.

These moronic wiseguys continue to act, imo, as if this whole trial is a joke, they may continue to laugh wearing their Terminator sun shades but I bet DP isn't laughing.
I laughed to read Glasgow called DP ''a thug.'' I thought he was exactly correct and that's the least of it.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - She loomed over Drew Peterson's murder trial, though her disappearance and the suspicion that the former Illinois police officer killed her was never mentioned in front of the jury.
But since jurors found Peterson guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, could now take center stage.
"We are going to aggressively review that case with an eye towards potentially charging it," Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow told reporters outside the Joliet courthouse shortly after jurors convicted Drew Peterson of killing Savio.

Stolat, I think you make an excellent point. Susan Powell even left a letter in her safety deposit box stating she ''feared for her life'' but LE, despite all the evidence in the case against Josh never arrested him. In some States, it is evident that women are still discounted, aren't listened to even after they disappear and LE knows they are probably dead.
I agree too about Kathleen's son's, they have had years of brainwashing from a murderer and are only concerned with the loss of their father. The Salvio's have gotten a tiny measure of JUSTICE for Kathleen, they have lived years with her loss and she's never coming back, but at least DP can't murder again.

In light of a likely appeal, I just don't really think it's such a bright idea for these folks to be so quick to jump into interviews, blab their mouths off and hand on a silver platter what may later help DP get off as result of appeal. I mean geez people..... knowlege is power -- those who hold it hold the power -- when you set the knowlege loose, you redistribute the power.

I agree, he will never tell. Why would he? It's his only way to "one up" everyone else at this point. He is smug and secure-- he made no mistakes "this" time. Her body won't be found. NO charges. He wins. Even though I hope he will die in prison-- so far he is "winning" the game of "where is Stacy". His sociopathic nature needs to win.
Hopefully prosecutors will find some kind of charges they can bring to win for Stacy, even if it isn't murder one. But I'll be satisfied with 60 years, no parole. 60 years hard labor would be fine with me, too. Scratchy underwear and no pillows, and no dessert would be ok, too. 60 years of bread and water. I'm fine with that.

State’s attorney: Stebic case ‘on the front burner’
By Janet Lundquist Sun-Times Media September 7, 2012 7:50PM
Five years ago, two women from Will County were reported missing within six months of each other.
Lisa Stebic, of Plainfield, vanished first, in April 2007. Stacy Peterson, of Bolingbrook, disappeared in October 2007.
On Thursday, Stacy’s husband, Drew Peterson, learned he’s headed to prison for killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow said Friday he’s not only pondering charges in Stacy’s disappearance but is also putting the Stebic case “on the front burner.” Glasgow said investigators have “significant evidence” in the Stebic case, and that as soon as the Christopher Vaughn trial ends, his top prosecutors will review it all.

Peterson jurors never doubted Savio was murdered

Jurors in the Drew Peterson trial said they never doubted his third wife, Kathleen Savio, was murdered.
But it took statements from a divorce attorney — ironically called by the defense to testify — and the pastor of his now-missing fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, to convince them Drew Peterson did it.
Stacy's remarks to the Rev. Neil Schori and Harry Smith that she knew Peterson killed Savio helped decide Peterson's guilt, jurors said.
"We believed Stacy," said jury foreman Eduardo Saldana, 22.

Peterson's police pension might be challenged

Drew Peterson could lose his $79,000 annual pension from the Bolingbrook Police Department as a result of the guilty verdict in his murder trial.
Under state law governing public employee pensions, a local pension board could revoke Peterson's pension if it determines he used his police powers or even his skills as a veteran officer in the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson retired as a sergeant in 2007, just a month shy of serving 30 years with the department, said Detective Henry Cunningham, the pension board chairman.

Re: Drew Peterson Trial Discussion
Alessandra, thanks for the link, I was thinking about DP's pension today. It may be challenged but it sounds like the evidence wasn't presented at trial of DP tampering with evidence, it sounds like the guidelines are clearly laid out. I guess the woman's bloody clothing being washed might be a problem but it was hearsay and who knows if that is going to come up. I assume it will be challenged but this fight might be one that DP wins.
He has 3 minor kids and one in college now, I assume the monies support the kids and go to his 31 yr. old son to take care of them. As much as I loathe DP, I can see where the monies are needed for the upbringing of the children, they have all suffered so much, I would hate for them to suffer more. jmo.
