I believe he was sentenced and served from 2000 to 2008 for this sexual assault.

Family members of Mickey Shunick, the UL-Lafayette student missing and presumed dead, are still anxious to find out just what happened to her. Mickey Shunick's sister has resigned herself to the fact that probably the only person who knows is the suspect indicted for her sister's murder.

Charlene Shunick says she doesn't like it that the only person who could tell them what happened may be the person authorities say murdered her sister. But even if it means allowing Brandon Lavergne to cut a deal, she says she must know.

It is a little confusing to follow the below info, so keep in mind you may have to read it a couple of times. :-) AND once again, I am NOT saying that Brandon is responsible for any other killings and I am aware that he has not even had a trial yet, so he an alleged killer.

Claire Gianfala, (the woman that has been telling the media that BSL stalked her) Ellis Slocum and Kevin Atchinson were in a traffic accident on June 19, 1999 that resulted in Kevin Atchinson's death. Kevin Atchinson was suppose to be driving per the police report.

Lisa Pate's body was found under the floor boards of the house that Kevin Atchinson lived in, but please note that Lisa reportedly died of asphyxiation on July 3, 1999 and Kevin had died June 19, 1999. Lisa Pate, per police, was murdered by Brandon.

Leander "Black" Venable is Brandon's uncle. Black Venable, 65, was a butcher and he was found murdered in his home on March 1, 1999. I cannot find anything on this case and cannot verify it was a murder or not.

Nolan Lavergne is another of Brandon's uncles and is a police officer and Gary Lavergne is Nolan's son (Brandon's cousin) and write's books on serial killers.

The document also says that Pate was forced by Lavergne to go to an undisclosed area and to “engage in non-consensual acts, and/or inflicted physical injury, and/or sexual abuse upon Lisa Pate.” He killed her and moved the body “with the intent to distort the results of the criminal investigation.”

LAFAYETTE — A sex offender charged in the deaths of a Louisiana college student and another woman may have moved their bodies, prosecutors said in court filings.

Excerpts:

A court filing says the “continued tampering” with Shunick’s body was meant to hamper the investigation.

Court documents filed Thursday reveal more about Pate’s case, noting that Lavergne met the woman in Lafayette Parish and either persuaded her to accompany him elsewhere or forced her to go with him. He then sexually abused Pate and killed her, according to the court filing.

EVANGELINE PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Officials with the Lafayette Police Department strongly believe they have found the body of missing ULL student Mickey Shunick. Corporal Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department says the body was found in Evangeline Parish.

Mouton says the remains were found buried near a cemetery off Highway 10. LSU forensic specialists are on the scene to help positively identify the body. Officials have been there since mid-morning. Mouton says they will be out there collecting evidence until nightfall.

I am terribly saddened that this is probably Mickey, but I am glad she has possibly been found. Still praying for her family.

I wonder if this was a targeted search area or if LE had a tip to search in that area since she was buried.

Heartbreaking news, although since presumed dead, it must be comforting for her family that her body has been recovered.

IIRC, that woman had been found under a pile of boards on the edge of church property and near a cemetery. Not sure if this is the same woman he was charged with the death of in the second indictment ????

IMO, it might be part of a future plea deal.

Praying authorities have not and will not offer this killer a plea deal. Dear GOD, please put up on the hearts of our judicial system to never offer any kind of leniency for the murders who take the lives of their victims and destroy the lives of their families and friends.

This makes me want to scream! He walked away from long-term incarceration on multiple occasions (if I recall correctly), and the possible charges were just awful. Mickey should have never been scoped by this pathetic scum, because he shouldn't have been on the streets. When, WHEN will enough be enough and sexual offenders will be kept AWAY from society - behind bars; where the public does not have to rely on the maybe-or-maybe-not-followed rules of their restricted freedom?!

As others have said, I cannot imagine what is worse - the frightful agony of not knowing where your loved one is, but still holding onto hope that they will be found alive; or knowing with final certainty the horrors that your loved one suffered in their last moments alive, and knowing you could not be there to protect them.

No happy outcome for Mickey's family, and I'm so sorry for what they are suffering right now. I pray peace and forgiveness will eventually find them, even though the road to it will be ugly and painful. I am also sorry for her killer's family; what shame and heartache they must feel - I cannot imagine. I also pray they can find it in their hearts to not desert Brandon, but to also not fail him by fighting for leniency, as leniency will never benefit a man like this. IF he can change, he will need his family. If they are to ever find peace, they will need to continue to love him, while never excusing what he has done.

So sad for everyone. Lives ruined all the way around. I hope that the state of Louisiana decides to make an example of Brandon, to others who think about doing what he's done. Swift, appropriate justice without a shred of leniency - send a message!

This is a double edged sword.

I'm glad for Mickey's family in that the finally know the truth, they can bring Mickey home and begin thier healing process.

On the other hand, I hate this outcome for anyone's family. Mickey had lots of friends in addition to a loving family.

The community, businesses, neighbors,volunteers, friends & family, have come together to lend their support in bringing Mickey home. I was impressed with the level of support from the people of LaFayette and the diligence of the police. Kudos to them.

@Calypso I think I watched that sequence 5 times to let it sink in... (I really like that there is a designation on the drivers licence... makes it well known if a driver is stopped by LE to be extra vigilant... we would never get that here in Canada.. our government is too busy protecting the criminals to worry about protecting the innocent.) I think this is the most likely scenario. I've seen it many times before. One example is when John Gardner got charged with the death of Chelsea King, he told authorities where the remains of Amber Dubois could be found in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table.
