GERMANTOWN, Md. - A Maryland woman charged with killing two of her children has told investigators that she thought an exorcism was necessary to remove the presence of the devil and evil spirits, a police captain said Sunday.
Zakieya Latrice Avery, 28, of Germantown, is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of the children, ages 1 and 2.
Montgomery County police responded to Avery's home Friday morning following a neighbour's 911 call. Police said they found the two children dead and two other siblings, ages 5 and 8, injured with stabbing wounds.

Carrboro, N.C. — When David Shannon died, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill freshman’s death was seen as a tragic accident involving alcohol and bad judgment. But the WRAL Investigates team has learned that police won’t close the case until they can prove whether the 18-year-old was alone when he fell to his death.

Police and autopsy records show Shannon, who was pledging the Chi Phi fraternity, fell after climbing 41 feet and shimmying across a narrow water line at a concrete plant in Carrboro in late October 2012. His blood alcohol level was 0.22, three times the level at which a driver is considered impaired under North Carolina law.

Dec. 15, 2013

By ABC NEWS via GOOD MORNING AMERICA

The parents of a young California woman murdered in Hawaii and the sister of her missing boyfriend -- now a key suspect in her death -- have called the mystery "surreal" and expressed concern that he was also murdered.

Family members of Brittany Royal, 25, and her boyfriend, 22-year old Boaz Johnson, have broken their silence after the body of Royal was discovered May 28, strangled and dumped in the ocean near Hawaii's Big Island. The couple had been living at a campsite in a remote town in the area, and Royal had told her parents that she was pregnant.

"They were excited about them being pregnant and kind of starting this new adventure and new life," Brittany Royal's mother Julie Royal told ABC News.

A real estate agent told ABC affiliate KITV the two were about to close the deal on 10 acres of land in the lava fields in Kalapana.

Hawaii cops still seek pregnant California woman's killer seven months later

Brittany Jane Royal was two months pregnant when a fisherman found her floating off the coast of Kalapana in late May. Missing but immediately branded a suspect was her boyfriend, Boaz Johnson. Families of both think there's a much more sinister plot at work, a scenario in which Royal and Johnson are dead and the killer or killers are still at large.

Brittany Royal, expectant mother, was killed in Hawaii in May. Her boyfriend, Boaz Johnson has been missing since Royal’s body was found strangled and dumped in the ocean.

Seven months after a pregnant California woman was found dead in the water off Hawaii, her boyfriend, the baby's dad, remains missing — and cops appear no closer to cracking the mysterious case.

Brittany Jane Royal, 25, was two months pregnant when a fisherman found her May 28 floating off the coast of Kalapana, a town known for its lava flows on Hawaii's Big Island. A coroner ruled the yoga teacher, originally from California, had been strangled to death.

Missing but immediately branded a suspect was her boyfriend, Boaz Johnson, now 23, who has not been seen since the day Royal died.

Cops have not relented in their search for Johnson. Last month they named him one of the top three "most wanted" people in Hawaii.

Hawaii Murder Mystery: Pregnant Woman Killed, Boyfriend Missing

by Fox News Insider// Dec 16 2013 // 12:18pm
As seen on America's Newsroom

The family of a murdered pregnant woman is now speaking out about the bizarre mystery surrounding her death. Twenty-five-year-old Brittany Royal had been living with her 22-year-old boyfriend, Bo Johnson, on a Hawaiian campsite before being found strangled to death.

Her body was dumped in the ocean near Hawaii’s Big Island. Johnson is still missing and authorities suspect him in her death.

Julie Royal, Brittany’s mother, doubts that he was involved, citing speculation that both Brittany and Bo were murdered and Bo’s body just hasn’t been found. “In my heart of hearts, I believe that Bo is also dead.”

According to Royal, there was a lot of outrage among locals in the community that Brittany and Bo wanted to purchase ten acres of land and open up a business.

Boaz Johnson's Body Identified, Handwritten Confession Admits Murder Of Brittany Royal

Posted: 01/22/2014 1:15 pm EST

A dead body found hanging from a tree on Hawaii's Big Island has been identified as Boaz Johnson, a key suspect in last year's murder of Brittany Royal.

On Jan. 2, a hiker discovered the decomposing body in a forested area of the Kalapana lava fields in Puna, approximately two miles from the campsite where Royal, 25, and Johnson, 22, were staying together last spring. The body was found hanging from a green nylon rope that was secured to a tree branch, West Hawaii Today reports.

On Tuesday afternoon, Big Island police announced during a press conference that the body was identified as Johnson's by using DNA analysis and dental records. It is not clear how long the body had been hanging there. Police believe Johnson murdered Royal, who was pregnant at the time, and then committed suicide.

A journal found near the body contains a handwritten confession. The writer identifies himself as Johnson, admits to strangling Royal during a domestic dispute, and says he threw her body into the ocean. The entry also indicates his intention to end his life, police said.

Developing Stories - Page 17 Empty MA: Julie A. Corey trial - Opening statements & testimony today -- 1/27/14

Post by Ann - Tx Mon Jan 27, 2014 12:01 pm

If you are interested in following the Julie Corey trial (Worcester, MA), Calypso set up a  thread for this trial.

Julie A. Corey, 39, faces a charge of murder in the first degree. She is accused of killing Darlene Haynes, 23, and cutting open her abdomen and removing her unborn child. Now 4, the child lives with her father.

I think Haynes was 8 months pregnant when this happened.

The trial is expected to last 12 days.

Opening statements for this trial was this morning, 1/27/14.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette (WTC) has a "live" blog and two of their reporters are also tweeting.

So . . . you can follow this trial via "live" blog and at least 2 twitter accounts.  The links are posted on the Julie Corey thread.  Also, the  WTC is a daily newspaper and will be updating daily.

MassLive.com powered by The Republican - MA also has a "live" blog with a reporter at the courthouse.

I would think the local TV stations in the area would also do updates.

This is the Link to the Julie A. Corey thread at RC:

Developing Stories - Page 17 Empty NC: Amanda Hayes trial - Opening statements might begin after 2 pm today (1/27/14) - WRAL will "live" stream

Post by Ann - Tx Mon Jan 27, 2014 12:19 pm

The Amanda Hayes murder trial (murder of Laura Jean Ackerson) has been underway since last week with jury selection.

The jury selection has not been live streamed but the rest of the trial will be "live" streamed by WRAL - Raleigh, NC when opening statements and testimony begins.

A jury has been seated but one juror might have to be excused.   The court will reconvene at 2 pm EST and that matter will be discussed. It is anticipated that opening statements will begin this afternoon.

If you are interested in following this trial, you can follow it on the Laura Jean Ackerson thread at RC.  For you info, WRAL archives each day's trial testimony.  So, if you can't watch the trial on some days, you can watch the video later.

A few months ago, Grant Hayes (Amanda's husband) was found guilty in the murder of Laura Jean Ackerson.  He is currently serving a life sentence without parole and plans to appeal his verdict.

This is the most recent media info about the current status of the Amanda Hayes trial:

The Royal Caribbean's cruise ship Explorer of the Seas arrives back at Bayonne, N.J., on Jan. 29, 2014.

AP  53 min ago | By Samantha Henry   of Assoicated Press

The Royal Caribbean ship had to cut short a 10-day cruise after more than 600 passengers and crew members fell ill with vomiting and diarrhea.

BAYONNE, N.J. — Passengers aboard a cruise ship on which hundreds fell ill recalled days of misery being holed up in their rooms as the Explorer of the Seas returned to its home port Wednesday after a Caribbean trip cut short by an outbreak of stomach flu.

Retiree Bill Rakowicz, 61, from the city of St. Thomas in Ontario, Canada, said he thought he was just seasick when he began suffering from vomiting, pain and diarrhea caused by the suspected norovirus outbreak that sickened nearly 700 passengers and crew.

A Hollywood father is missing – and his family is distressed after his last, panicked phone call.

Bonnie Tannenbaum says that she last spoke with her longtime partner Kevin Von Behren Sr., 52, when he called her Monday at 5 a.m. For nearly 7 minutes, she heard him panicking, panting and finally uttering the words “No no, don’t,” before the call cut out.

If you are following the Hailey Owens case or interested in the kidnapping and tragic death of this 10 year old child from Springfield, MO, a thread has been set up for the Hailey Owens case.

This thread was set up with articles (some with videos), law enforcement info, etc. as the case unfolded.  It was around midnight before I started posting articles, etc. on the thread.

As we know now, Hailey Owens has been found deceased in the home of her kidnapper, Craig Michael Wood. He has been charged with Murder 1 and is in custody.

Ann I have to hold on to the idea that the couple who witnessed the abduction will help others to see that it is important to get involved.. the news reported that the man tried to stop the vehicle and the wife memorized the licence plate and called police. There are still a few good courageous people out there who will not bury their head in the sand and will act when they see something wrong.. My hat is off to them…as because of them the alleged kidnapper and alleged murderer was found quickly.. not in time … but found!

When I heard this on the news earlier today it just sent ice water up my spine.
How many times did this man fantasize about someone's child?
It is a sick society that preys upon its self and the youth of tomorrow.
I am just so disgusted.
Little Hailey was so very close to being rescued by the neighbors who called in the event, the plate, the vehicle description.... so close and it did not happen.

Justina Pellitier
This is a case involving too much government oversight, perhaps.
I am sure we will read more of the plight of this girl and her family.

Massachusetts Kidnapping Solved

" ... A Massachusetts kidnapping has been solved and the question is: will anyone actually go to jail? Justina Pellitier, 15 of West Hartford, Connecticut was found alive in a Boston, Massachusetts hospital, where she has been held against her will and the will of her parents for over a year. She is alive but whether or not she is well has not been determined.

Justina’s parents, Lou and Linda Pellitier, reported her kidnapping on February 14, 2013, when they brought Justina to the Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) and the hospital refused to let them take her home. Justina has been suffering from Mitochondrial Disease, and was being treated at nearby Tufts University Medical Center when she came down with the flu. Her physician, Dr. Mark Korson, of Tufts was unavailable, forcing her parents bring her to BCH. The physicians at BCH wanted to check her original diagnosis and the father gave them permission. ..."

" ... This is the latest in a series of problems the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families has had in the recent past. These include:

A report in the Boston Globe found that there have been 95 deaths of children in the care of the DCF since 2001.

The Boston Herald reported one third of the workers at the DCF are unlicensed.

On February 13, a child in DCF custody was found dead in a foster home.

A child in DCF custody was abused by a relative with a history of this behavior after the relative was cleared by DCF to be near the 11 month old.

And in Fitchburg, MA a five year old boy, Jeremiah Oliver has been missing since September, 2013, and is presumed dead after DCF allowed him to stay with his parents. Both parents have histories of child abuse and it is believed they are responsible for his disappearance. DCF failed to make the required visits to the home but filed false reports claiming they did.

Governor Deval Patrick has refused to take action on any of these cases...."

This is a long story but it is so wonderful I hope you will read to the end. From Tampa Tribune, Feb 22, 2014:

Wounded warriors take on child porn in HERO program

" ...TAMPA — Men who have seen and suffered the horrors of combat steel themselves each day for a job some find just as wrenching: fighting child sex crimes back home.

“I am just dealing with a different kind of terrorist,” said retired Marine Cpl. Justin Gaertner, a 25-year-old native of New Port Richey who lost both legs above the knees three years ago while sweeping for mines in Afghanistan.

Gaertner is an unpaid intern in a new program that provides training in high-tech computer forensics to wounded, injured and ill special operations forces members to help federal agents investigating online child sexual exploitation.

The program is called HERO, for Human Exploitation Rescue Operative Child-Rescue Corps.

Those who fight child exploitation welcome the help because they say they are outmanned by pornographers.

“There are special agents who refuse to do these investigations,” said Kevin Power, a computer forensics special agent with Homeland Security Investigations in Tampa who is helping to train Gaertner. “And those who do it get burned out on it. But you can't let these people go. Someone has to put them in jail.”

Power has investigated child exploitation since 1997. ..."

" ...Nationwide, 17 veterans are working as interns in the program. Weeks hopes to have 200 HERO graduates battling child exploitation as computer forensics agents within the next five years.

“Law enforcement is completely overwhelmed in trying to stop child exploitation,” Weeks said. “The average backlog of child exploitation cases for a law enforcement agency is nine months.”

“The bulk of the problem is in the forensics,” said Carissa Cutrell, a spokeswoman in Tampa for Homeland Security Investigations. “We have a limited number of computer forensics agents, and that's where the issue begins. Our case agents can investigate child exploitation cases all day, but the electronic media has to be analyzed to present a case for federal prosecution. ...."

Missing woman from Halifax. Loretta Saunders

Two people accused of stealing a car belonging to a missing Halifax university student are now facing additional charges in connection with the case.
Loretta Saunders, who is three months pregnant, was seen last Thursday at her apartment in Halifax’s Cowie Hill neighbourhood. The 26-year-old was in contact with a friend on social media Friday afternoon, but she hasn’t been in contact with friends or family since.

The former roommate of a missing Halifax woman is wanted by Alberta RCMP on two outstanding warrants.
Blake Leggette, 25, is wanted on warrants for possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. He had been scheduled to appear before a Drumheller, Alta., court on April 16, 2013, but failed to appear.

The boyfriend of a missing Halifax woman told CBC News he is suspicious about the last text message he received from his girlfriend's cellphone before she mysteriously disappeared.
Yalcin Surkultay, 25, said he knew something was wrong a week ago when he got a text from Loretta Saunders, 26, a Saint Mary's University student, asking him what her mother's maiden name was.

Halifax police appealed to the public Saturday for information about a taxi that was parked in the area where a missing university student was last seen more than a week ago.
Investigators say the cab was parked in a roundabout at the front entrance of an apartment building around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 13.
Loretta Saunders, 26, was last seen that morning in the same area.

Developing Stories - Page 17 Empty NC - Capital murder trial of Jonathan Richardson in the Teghan Skiba murder/torture case started today, 2/24/14

Post by Ann - Tx Mon Feb 24, 2014 10:33 pm

The capital murder trial of Jonathan Richardson (the Teghan Skiba murder/torture case) started today, 2/24/14, in Smithfield, Johnston County,  North Carolina.

Teghan Skiba was only 4 years old at the time of her torture, abuse and murder.

The case became highly publicized, and attorneys found it difficult to find an impartial jury in Johnston County. Jurors and alternates were picked in Harnett County and are being bused in for the trial. -

( See more at: http://charlotte.twcnews.com/content/news/triangle/705040/opening-statements-underway-in-jonathan-richardson-trial#sthash.cRgIuHNK.dpuf)

Today, 2/24/14, the "opening statements" were streamed "live" by WRAL - Raleigh, NC.  Unfortunately, I was not available to watch the live stream of the opening statements and can not comment accordingly.

Valhall of The Hinky Meter (does not exist any longer) followed this case and wrote about it as it unfolded in July, 2010.  There were many folks that followed the Teghan Skiba case on THM.  I wish there was a way that I could let them know that the wheels of justice are finally moving . . .  the trial of Jonathan Richardson!

Jonathan Richardson is finally on trial in this capital murder case.  If he is found guilty, he could face the death penalty.

I do not know what kind of media coverage this trial will get. I do hope we can follow this trial with the NC media.

If you are interested in this trial, Teghan Skiba has a thread at RC.  Sadly, it was not kept updated by whomever.

However, I posted some Links to several NC media this morning.  You can go to their site and click on previous articles.

I will link to my first comment from this morning.  For previous comments, please scroll up.  For comments others (including me) posted today, please scroll down at the Linked thread.

Thanks.

Justina Pelletier
Boston Children's Hospital

" ... Justina being transferred to foster care with no medical treatment - Reverend..."

" ... The teenager from West Hartford, Conn., became the subject of the custody battle between her parents — Lou and Linda Pelletier — and the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families after they disagreed with physicians at Boston Children’s Hospital over a medical diagnosis that was issued by a doctor at Tufts Medical Center.

For the last year, the Pelletiers have been in and out of court while their daughter remained in a psychiatric ward at BCH, until a few weeks ago when she was moved to another facility.

The Pelletier family’s reaction to today’s news was emotional. Lou Pelletier was seen yelling and at one point sitting on a bench crying, while Linda Pelletier fainted and was on her way to the hospital for evaluation, Staver said....."

" ....Staver told TheBlaze that while the “whole day was shocking,” the judge set dates for two new hearings. The first will take place March 17 to address the care and custody of Justina Pelletier further, while one on March 24 will hear the case on Lou Pelletier’s alleged gag order violation. Staver plans to address whether the gag order was constitutional in the first place as well. ...."

First, Do No Harm: How We Failed Justina Pelletier and Her Family

" ... Justina and her older sister struggle with an invisible condition called mitochondrial disease. It is caused by a disruption in the cellular energy centers of our bodies, the mitochondria. The crisis inside her cells isn't always apparent on the outside. But inside, they are teetering on a precarious cliff where the body's demands exceed the body's ability to supply enough energy to live and to thrive. For mito patients, it's more than just being tired. It's never having adequate fuel to operate necessary functions of our body. Justina's gut stopped working a couple of years ago, a common problem for mito patients, resulting in a tube to help her digest and eliminate food. Mito patients also struggle with muscle weakness, pain, memory loss, erratic blood pressure, vision problems, hearing problems, and debilitating fatigue...."

From comments:
" ... When a hospital tells a family that they cannot seek a second opinion, that should be a red flag for anyone. I personally would have walked my child out of there instantly.

Freckles, a former member on RC, Piper, has a niece, Ava, who suffers from this disease. I don't remember her last name, but I will see if I can find the thread telling about Ava's struggles with Mitochondral disease.

Trace Adkins also has a daughter with this disease too.

Police find body of missing Halifax student on highway in New Brunswick
HALIFAX - The hope that university student Loretta Saunders would be returned to her family ended Wednesday when police said they found her body in the median of a busy highway in New Brunswick and were treating her death as a homicide.
Halifax police say Saunders's body was found at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the median off Route 2 of the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Salisbury, N.B., two weeks after she disappeared. Salisbury is just west of Moncton, about a three-hour drive from Halifax.

I recall reading about this case but I don't recall the name of the step, etc.. The child had escaped from the basement and was found running barefoot down a street when the ground was frozen. A motorist stopped, helped her into his car, gave her his jacket, and drove her straight to the hospital where LE were called in... She had been sexually abused, malnourished, locked up 24/7, denied bathroom facilities, etc.. The stepmother had punished her for looking out a basement window and for being on the basement steps...

Does any one know if we have a link or thread for her?

" ... MADISON, Wis. — A Wisconsin man was convicted early Friday of sexually and physically abusing his stepsister, who weighed just 68 pounds and was barefoot when she fled their family's home two winters ago.

Jurors deliberated late into the night before finding the 20-year-old man guilty of first-degree sexual assault of a child, second-degree sexual assault of a child, and child abuse, the Wisconsin State Journal reported. The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred between 2006 and 2011 in the home where the then-children lived with the girl's father and his mother...."

Are they (LE) of the opinion this young woman's body lay in the median for two weeks? Was it placed there at a later time? If so, where were the two "renters" ? I understood they were taken into custody fairly quickly...

from the following article I get the impression that because it has snowed heavily several times the body had been there since she was abducted… I find it interesting that we dropped Fraud charges in Ontario to pave the way for the alleged perpetrators to be return to Nova Scotia… There is a map showing locations at the bottom of this page.. I also am saddened that as Ms. Saunders was a St. Mary’s University criminology and sociology undergraduate student. She had been working on a thesis on missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada, focusing on three Nova Scotia cases. While she herself was an indigenous woman and now murdered.

I think of those who have had their lives abused, been tortured, held hostage, and then cruelly murdered.

"And He wept."

A few years ago, while passing thru Oklahoma City, I stopped at the memorial there. If you have the opportunity, please do visit as it is most moving. There is a statue of Jesus with His hand over His face.
A plague reads, "And He wept." I can only think of the grief and dismay God and Jesus must feel as mankind has set about to destroy the innocent, the pure, the goodness of others and of our own society.

Here are some of the links.

Justina Pelletier
Mass.

Mass. Agency Breaks Silence in Pelletier Case, But Dad Tells Us He’s Not Fully Buying It

" ... Lou Pelletier said his family has been offered hope of having custody restored several times in the last year and has always come away disappointed.

DCF took emergency custody of Justina, now 15 years old, on Feb. 14, 2013, after a team at Boston Children’s Hospital alleged that the Pelletiers were over-medicalizing their daughter in treating her for mitochondrial disease. According to the Pelletiers, doctors at Boston Children’s said she does not have mitochondrial disease, a condition that was diagnosed by a doctor at Tufts Medical Center years earlier, but has somatoform disorder, which would put the root cause of Justina’s symptoms as psychological.

Since then, the Pelletiers have had several court hearings as they tried to regain custody and medical care of their daughter. Patient and human rights advocates have taken up the cause in recent months to support the Pelletiers, and even more recently some state legislators have spoken out...."

" ....When [DCF] got challenged and it came to light, they decided to back off,” Staver said.

But he added that he thinks the agency needs to be held accountable.

“We will not rest [until] DCF is completely out of this case, and DCF has to be held accountable for [its] neglegent actions,” Staver said. ..."

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/02/28/mass-department-of-children-families-releases-statement-on-pelletier-case/

Note:
Because of Boston Children's Hospital ignoring Tuft's diagnosis and treatment of Justina, and then substituting their own (claiming it was psychosomatic), Harvard University had gotten involved and had been using behavior modification (!!!!) in place of the medications Justina had been prescribed and was using at Tuft's. Because she has been off the meds prescribed by Tuft's, her health has rapidly declined. A year ago, she was ice skating; Justina currently can not walk and must use a wheel chair. Lifting her head is difficult as is feeding herself. One of her three sisters also has the same illness. I must wonder if the sister is currently on medication....and is being treated at Tuft's.

He HAS spoken up.

Pelletiers provided the local news station with an email sent from the doctor to their attorney.
Dr. Mark Korson of Tufts Medical Center, who was Justina’s pediatrician, has stated the following: “I am dismayed. … It feels like Justina’s treatment team is out to prove the diagnosis at all costs. … The (Boston Children’s Hospital) team has demanded that Justina be removed from the home. … This represents the most severe and intrusive intervention a patient can undergo … for a clinical hunch,” Korson wrote in the email. Here is a summary of how it all started with Justina ending up at BCH instead of Tuft's:

A medical collision with a child in the middle
Justina has a metabolic disease. Or does she? Her parents and Children’s Hospital deadlocked, she was placed in state custody

" ... Just after midnight on a Sunday last February, Linda Pelletier climbed into the passenger seat of an ambulance as her ailing teenage daughter lay in the back. They headed for Boston Children’s Hospital, on the advice of one of the girl’s doctors. A crippling storm had dumped 3 feet of snow on parts of New England, and every time the ambulance began to fishtail, Pelletier gasped.

They were making the white-knuckled trip from Connecticut because 14-year-old Justina wasn’t eating and was having trouble walking. Just six weeks earlier, the girl had drawn applause at a holiday ice-skating show near her home in West Hartford, performing spins, spirals, and waltz jumps.

But now Justina’s speech was slurred, and she was having so much trouble swallowing that her mother was worried her daughter might choke to death.

When the ambulance finally made it to Longwood Avenue and pulled into the driveway of one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals, the mother thought, “I’m saved.” Her relief wouldn’t last long.

Growing up as the youngest of four girls in a family full of demonstrative personalities, Justina Pelletier stood out for her quiet demeanor.

Justina had been sick on and off for several years. A team of respected doctors at Tufts Medical Center in Boston had been treating her for mitochondrial ..."

Continuing from Boston and the state of Mass:
Justina Pelletier, Jeremiah Oliver, and others

Missing boy, seized girl have Massachusetts' child services under fire

" .... A missing 5-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl’s forced estrangement from her biological family have put the spotlight on Massachusetts’ troubled Department of Children and Families.

The two cases are just the latest in a series of disturbing events involving children entrusted to the department over the last decade or more. But now, lawmakers are vowing to hold social workers and the administrators who manage them, accountable. A report released last July found 95 children died while in the department’s care between 2001 and 2010, and a top-to-bottom state audit is now under way....."

" ... Jeremiah Oliver was first reported missing by his 7-year old sister, who told school officials that her mother’s boyfriend was abusing her and that she had not seen her little brother for months. The social worker handling Jeremiah’s case failed to complete routine home visits, last checking in on the child in May 2013. His mother, Elsa Oliver, is being charged with several counts, including reckless endangerment of a child, and is awaiting trial.

Justina, who lives in Connecticut, was taken into custody by the DCF after her parents disagreed with a diagnosis and treatment plan suggested by doctors at the Boston Children’s Hospital. Her primary care doctor had diagnosed her with Mitochondrial Disease, a condition that affects cells throughout the body. But when the doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital told authorities her condition was partly psychologically induced, DCF took custody of the girl.

The agency has been under fire for several years. In 2010, 23-month-old Kaydn Hancock was beaten to death by his mother, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is serving time. She had broken the boy’s arm just weeks before the fatal beating, and although DCF removed Kaydn from the home initially, he was returned less than a week later.

"I was calling them, begging, pleading, crying, just anything because I was desperate for help,” Kaydn's maternal great-aunt, Andrea Rizzitano, told Fox News. “Not only did his mother rob him of his life, but DCF robbed him of his life because they put him back into a situation that he was in imminent danger....."

We have too many children, too many adults struggling to make ends meet. The gov't isn't there to help. They say they are overwhelmed with too many cases.... and then they demand more money for the services they DO provide. The "young" mothers/fathers continue to take no responsibility for their own lives or providing for their children. That is distressing to me....making of a disaster.

I hope this child can be given a better tomorrow:

Just
The child's body found in Tucson is believed to be smaller than Isabel and of a younger child....I,too, hope it is not Isabel but then I have to ask, "Whose child is this?"

now I am really torn… hoping that it was not Isa… but then completely at a loss if there is another child missing who was never reported! I guess I am not going to win … whatever is the outcome.

Texas death row inmate Ray Jasper is scheduled to be put to death on March 19. He has written us a letter that, he acknowledges, "could be my final statement on earth." It is well worth your time.

This is a well written letter and the author certainly has stated his views with plenty of references to the inequality of different aspects of our society. Despite all the problems there are in America, the author does NOT state HE was unaware of what was planned to go down that night: He was going to be a party to a murder of an innocent person who had family and friends. The author was going to perpetuate a cycle of violence. HE did not go to LEO to report a planned homicide... but only complains after the fact?

Our society DOES need to work on improving the living conditions for ALL members of the society.
Disrespect, boldness, nudity, shock value all seem to have replaced the old fashioned values.
Old values of CARING are not acceptable, it appears, but RUDENESS and IN YOUR FACE seem to be the vogue.
To improve our society, IMO: We need to support and respect the women and children in our communities.
Teach them well for the children WILL be tomorrow's leaders and caring for US.
Give opportunities to women and the stress in the home will be lessened...

I've read it and have mixed feelings about it. However I do believe that prisons have become a money making deal for those in charge. People that don't need to be in prisons, are, and people who need to be in prisons, are not. We have child molesters, and child abusers walking the streets over and over again, while someone caught selling drugs goes for life. These priorities are not exactly in order to me.

I don't want to imagine living in a society that doesn't have prisons, but I want the prisons to be prioritized to fit the crime. I certainly wouldn't mind paying more taxes to insure a safe society for our children. But the prisons that are built seem to be only for profit to the outside criminals that are legal under the law.

It's sad but true, money is the root to all evil. Those that use the system for profit are no better than the ones they are putting away for life. However, I have full faith that they one day will have to pay for their greed and dishonesty and unfairness.

Sorry but I have a mind melt down right now.
Think it is related  to the time change... Shocked

I stumbled on this and thot of the family that went missing in the Eufaula, OK, area. The parents and the little girl.  Anyone recall the family name and date of disappearance? I know we have a thread for them...
The family is the Jamison family.
They disappeared 10/08/09 and possible remains found in Nov 2013.
I wonder if these cases are related.
Eufaula is NOT a large community!
