His body was discovered off Chelsea Piers on Sunday afternoon, not far from where he lived aboard his boat.

Mexico: Cartel Kidnapped Kids, Stole Their Organs
Nephew of major leader of powerful Knights Templar cartel arrested

By Kevin Spak, Newser Staff

Posted Mar 18, 2014 10:14 AM CDT

" .... (Newser) – Police in Mexico say they've uncovered a grisly scheme to kidnap children and sell their organs. Authorities in the Western state of Michoacan revealed yesterday that they'd arrested Manuel Plancarte Gaspar, the nephew of one of the top leaders of the Knights Templar cartel, for his alleged involvement. Gaspar and his cohorts would allegedly take their young captives to rented homes with medical equipment and remove their organs, the AP reports.

Police said the cases dated back several years. Once word of the arrest broke, a leader in a local vigilante group told a radio station that several children had been rescued from a cartel van in his town.

"They were inside a refrigerated box, tightly wrapped in blankets," he said. All hailed from the same Mexico City school, and were abducted during a beach outing.

The Templar cartel has for years been diversifying its operations beyond drugs; it now makes most of its money from illegal mining, logging, and extortion. ...."

This "punishment" is a disgrace!

Man accused of punching daughter, infant son reaches plea deal

" ... Lehigh County Judge James Anthony sentenced Davis to nine months to 24 months in Lehigh County Prison, followed by three years of probation...."

" ... Keri Davis, the girl's mother and Joshua Davis' wife, told police that in March 2012 she saw a bruise on her then-2-month-old son's face, near his eye, and Joshua Davis told her he hit the infant because "he was acting like a little (expletive) and I can't stand his crying," records say.

Then from January 2013 through June 2013, Keri Davis said sometimes when Joshua would be rocking their son to sleep and the child would cry, Joshua would punch the child on the side of his torso, causing their son to cry louder, records say...."

Du Pont heir dodged prison for raping 3-year-old daughter after judge ruled he 'would not fare well' behind bars

Robert H. Richards IV, 47 — whose great-grandfather was du Pont family patriarch Irenee du Pont — was given just eight years probation after pleading guilty to raping his 3-year-old daughter. But now his ex-wife, Tracy Richards, is suing him for sexually abusing the girl and their young son.

Robert H. Richards IV, 47, was sentenced to eight years probation after pleading guilty to raping his 3-year-old daughter.

A du Pont family heir who pleaded guilty nearly six years ago to raping his 3-year-old daughter was never put behind bars because a Delaware judge ruled he “would not fare well” in prison, court records show.

Robert H. Richards IV — scion of the family who built the chemical empire and kin to the co-founders of a prestigious law firm, Richards Layton & Finger — was given eight years probation and was ordered to seek treatment after being convicted of fourth-degree rape in 2008, the records show.

Officials managed to keep the case away from the public spotlight until this month — when his ex-wife, Tracy Richards, filed a lawsuit seeking compensatory and punitive damages for abusing their daughter and son, the News Journal reported.

Du Pont heir accused of raping 2nd child in lawsuit

Cris Barrish, The (Wilmington, Del.) News Journal    3:11 p.m. EDT March 19, 2014

WILMINGTON, Del. — A du Pont family heir who raped his 3-year-old daughter nearly a decade ago but received no prison time now faces a lawsuit from his former wife that accuses him of sexually abusing his toddler son.

Robert H. Richards IV, 47, who is supported by a trust fund and who paid $1.8 million for his 5,800-square-foot mansion near Winterthur Museum, pleaded guilty in 2008 to fourth-degree rape of his daughter. Currently on probation, he has never been charged with crimes against his son.

~Snipped~

On Tuesday, nearly six years after Richards' felony conviction, his ex-wife, Tracy Richards, filed a Superior Court lawsuit on behalf of her children seeking compensatory and punitive damages for assault, negligence, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress on his two children. Abuse of the children occurred at both the Greenville and North Shores homes, the lawsuit alleged.

~Snipped~

The lawsuits asserts that Roberts also admitted in April 2010, while on probation, that he sexually abused his son. Those assaults began around December 2005, when the boy was 19 months old, and continued for about two years, the lawsuit said.

The revelations allegedly came while Richards was taking a lie detector test, ordered in an attempt to get Richards to be more forthcoming about his sexual history. Richards told the examiner he "was very concerned that something happened with his son but that he has repressed the memories,' " He told the examiner he worried that his acts were "similar to what happened with his daughter," the lawsuit said. "But he promised that whatever I did to my son, I will never do it again."

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — A powerful magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck in off Chile's northern coast Tuesday night, and authorities ordered an evacuation of coastal areas in case of a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck 61 miles (99 kilometers) northwest of the city of Iquique at 8:46 p.m., shaking a region that has been rocked by numerous quakes over the past two weeks.

The latest tremor also shook buildings in parts of the nearby nations of Bolivia and Peru. Waves measuring almost 2 meters (6 ½ feet) already were striking cities on the northern coast.

A tsunami was expected to reach nearby cities throughout the night, and local TV images showed residents evacuating calmly. Chile's Emergency Office said a large tsunami wave was expected to hit the island of Juan Fernandez just before midnight local time.

Gunman kills 3, wounds 16 at Fort Hood Army base

Updated: 11:08 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 | Posted: 11:07 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014

The Associated Press

FORT HOOD, Texas  — A soldier opened fire Wednesday on fellow service members at the Fort Hood military base, killing three people and wounding 16 before committing suicide at the same post where more than a dozen people were slain in a 2009 attack, authorities said.

The shooter, who served in Iraq in 2011, had been undergoing an assessment to determine whether he had post-traumatic stress disorder, according to Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley, the senior officer on the base.

There was no indication the attack was related to terrorism, Milley said.

A Texas congressman said the shooting happened at a medical center. Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, also identified the suspect as Ivan Lopez. But additional details about the gunman were not immediately available.

Authorities in California recently arrested two men for their alleged connection in the death of Cathy Zimmer, a mother of two who was murdered 25 years ago.

According to Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Ted Kajani, investigators have charged Zimmer's husband, David Zimmer and her husband’s brother, Robert Zimmer, with murder.

David Zimmer, the prosecutor's office said, has been arrested, in part, because he collected roughly $400,000 from the sale of the home he shared with his wife, as well as life insurance. Robert Zimmer was arrested on the basis of DNA evidence allegedly found on Cathy Zimmer's body, authorities said.

Zimmer, 38, disappeared from San Jose, Calif., on March 8, 1989. In the hours leading up to her disappearance, she dropped her kids off at school, had lunch with a friend and attended two business classes at San Jose State University.

Authorities believe Zimmer made contact with her killer sometime before 2:45 p.m. –- the time she had a scheduled eye doctor appointment in Los Gatos, which she failed to show up for. Family members later told police it would have been unlikely for Zimmer to skip the appointment, because she was looking forward to getting contact lenses.

This Tuesday, April 1, 2014 file booking photograph released by the Allegheny County Police shows Laurel Michelle Schlemmer, who is charged with drowning her 3-year-old son and leaving his 6-year-old brother in critical condition Tuesday, April 1.  Allegheny County Police, File/AP Photo

A 6-year-old Pennsylvania boy whose mother allegedly held him underwater in a bathtub died Saturday, four days after his younger brother drowned, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed.

The boy, Daniel Schlemmer, had been declared brain dead after authorities say he and his 3-year-old brother, Luke, were submerged underwater by their mother at their McCandless home Tuesday in western Pennsylvania.

Forty-year-old Laurel Michelle Schlemmer is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond on criminal homicide and other charges in the death of her younger child. With Daniel's death, the charges against her are expected to be amended.

County detectives say the mother told them she tried to drown both boys by sitting on them in the tub after a third son left for school. They say she told investigators she heard "crazy voices" telling her to push the boys underwater

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) -- A man who tossed his 2-year-old daughter into a creek while she was still strapped into her car seat was convicted Thursday of her murder and smirked as he was led out of court in handcuffs to spend what will probably be the rest of his life behind bars. Jurors found Arthur Morgan III guilty of killing Tierra Morgan-Glover, whose body was pulled from a creek in a park near the Jersey shore in November 2011. They also found him guilty of child endangerment and interference with custody. Because the jurors determined that Morgan's actions were "knowing or purposeful," the 29-year-old is likely to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Over the course of 10 years, police say Megan Huntsman gave birth to, then killed, at least six babies. The remains were found inside a home in a small city just north of Provo.

Huntsman, 39, told police she either strangled or suffocated them immediately after they were born. She wrapped their bodies in a towel or a shirt, put them in plastic bags and then packed them inside boxes in the garage of her home south of Salt Lake City.

What's not clear is why. A day after her arrest on charges of killing her six babies, investigators and her neighbors puzzled over the grisly discovery, including how she could have concealed a half-dozen pregnancies over a 10-year period.

6 Brothers Charged With Sexual Assault of Sister While Parents Looked On  by Jenny Erikson May 13 at 6:19 PM

" ... This is one of the most sick and twisted stories of incest and abuse that I've heard in a while. Six brothers from a small county in North Carolina have been charged with the sexual assault of their little sister, 16, who allegedly endured their abuse from the time she was four until she was almost 15.

http://thestir.cafemom.com/in_the_news/172370/6_brothers_charged_with_sexual?ref=otherstories

They were in court May 19.
Parents were also charged.
Parents and the six sons are all in custody.
http://www.wvec.com/news/Six-brothers-charged-with-258936601.html

Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley said he was "disgusted" by the situation, and by that I'm sure he meant throw up in my mouth and weep for humanity appalled. He also said he blamed the parents. "It's your responsibility as a parent to teach [your children] right and wrong," he said. "When you see a child doing something that is totally wrong and you don't correct them, then the child thinks it's OK."

All six brothers purportedly participated in the alleged abuse, which ranges from rape to sexual assault. Aaron Jackson, 19, Benjamin Jackson, also 19, Nathaniel Jackson, 21, Mathew Jackson, 23, Jon Jackson, 25, and Eric Jackson, 27, were arrested last week and are being held on $150,000 bond. Their parents, John Jackson, 65, and Nita Jackson, 54, were also charged with felony child abuse, as they were aware of the attacks yet did nothing to stop it.

Tilley said, "Part of the investigation revealed that, at one point, the mother observed some of this activity and never did anything about it....."

U.S. top court rules for Florida death row inmate over IQ test

BY LAWRENCE HURLEY
WASHINGTON  Tue May 27, 2014 12:53pm EDT

(Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out a death sentence for a Florida man in a decision that found the state's method for assessing whether defendants are mentally disabled was unconstitutional.

The court ruled on a 5-4 vote, with Justice Anthony Kennedy writing the majority opinion, that death row inmate Freddie Lee Hall should have another chance to show he should not be executed.

Florida had initially determined that convicted murderer Hall was mentally disabled in 1992, but later found him competent after he scored 71 on an IQ test, the minimum under Florida law.

I have no opinion re JonBenet Ramsey. Zip. I find it interesting, however, the Santa Claus connection. That and Edwards choosing holidays or days of meaning for himself to commit murders. The guy could scheme and carry out subterfuges. The fact he showed up at the very cemetery where filming was going on... and had to do the Hitchcock walk thru. That got me! And the murders when he was so very young. He was really screwed up! To plan an adoption of a lonely, needy child, raise him for a few years, and then murder the young man JUST for the insurance money! Wow. Cold. To betray the trust of so many just to feed his own empty shell....

What about the Zodiac killings?

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI has issued a nationwide alert to law enforcement agencies about a San Francisco social media consultant they consider armed and dangerous who is wanted on suspicion of possessing explosives.

FBI spokesman Peter Lee said Sunday that 42-year-old Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II was last seen in a dark blue, hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Multiple agencies, including hazardous materials crews, searched Chamberlain's apartment in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood on Saturday, blocking off the street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for much of the day.

Lee gave no details Sunday about the nature of the investigation, but said authorities believe Chamberlain is acting alone.

FBI: Explosives Suspect Found After 3-Day Manhunt

June 2, 2014 8:19 PM

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco social media maven and former political consultant who was wanted on suspicion of possessing explosives has been taken into custody after a three-day manhunt.

Federal agents and the San Francisco police said they captured Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II, 42, on Monday afternoon shortly after announcing that they had found his car near Crissy Field, just south of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Though Chamberlain was considered armed and dangerous, FBI spokesman Peter Lee said Monday that he did not seem to pose an immediate threat to public safety.

Anyone who has the means, methods and access to make a bomb should be considered armed and dangerous,” Lee said before the arrest. “That is the reason why we want to bring him in safely soon.”

Hermitage woman missing, Foul play suspected (Videos)

Posted: May 29, 2014 5:17 PM CDT Updated: Jun 02, 2014 10:35 PM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -  Metro police believe foul play may have been involved in the disappearance of a mother from Hermitage now missing for more than a week.

Nichole “Nikki” Burgess, 36, was reported missing on Sunday, May 25.

She was last heard from two days earlier, on the afternoon of Friday, May 23, when she sent a text message to a friend.

The friend, Stevie Blainey, reported her missing two days later because she did not hear from her again and “felt like something was off” because the two typically spoke several times a day.

When authorities searched Burgess’ home in the 900 block of Oak Vale Drive, they found her usually tidy house in disarray.

Her two dogs were also found alone in the home.

Family and friends said she would not have left her pets for an extended period of time without proper care.

Her car was also parked outside with her purse inside.

Neighbors told News 2 the only suspicious activity they saw Friday was a car in Burgess' driveway they did not recognize.

Burgess’ boyfriend, Jay Henry, also spoke with Burgess on the afternoon of May 23.

“I personally talked with Nikki at around 1:50 p.m. last Friday afternoon. She was planning to leave Nashville and head to Sparta and Crossville within the hour. That was the last contact I had with this wonderful, beautiful lady,” Henry told News 2.

Burgess is from the area and was traveling there to be with family and close friends, including Henry, who lives there.

Authorities Suspect Foul Play After Tennessee Woman Disappears

ABC US News | ABC International News

By ABC News Jun 1, 2014 11:04am

Investigators in Nashville, Tenn., believe foul play led to the disappearance of a 37-year-old mother.

Nichole Burgess was last seen May 23. Police were called to her home after a friend of Burgess’ said she received a disturbing text from her.

Police found her purse in her car and her two dogs unattended, officials said. They haven’t released what the text message said.

Friends say Burgess would never leave her dogs alone for a long period of time. She also had a 10-year-old son, who was staying at his father’s when she disappeared.

“There are a number things about this particular matter with Nichole Burgess that greatly concerns the police department,” said Don Aaron of the Metro Police Department.

Worried friends started a Facebook page dedicated to spreading Burgess’ story in the hopes she’ll be found.

New details revealed in search warrants in missing woman case

Nashville detectives investigating the disappearance of Nichole Burgess were in Andersonville last week to execute a search warrant at the home of Caleb J. Cannon, the father of Burgess’ 10-year-old son, authorities said. (Submitted photo)

Information from WYSH Radio

Search warrants released last week have provided new information about what led investigators from Nashville to search the Anderson County home of a man who is now a person of interest in the disappearance and possible death of a Hermitage woman.

The documents indicate that a friend reported Nichole Burgess missing from her home in Hermitage on May 25 after she was unable to reach Burgess by phone or text message. The friend said Burgess’s last text message, sent on May 23, indicated she had been in an altercation with the father of Burgess’s child, 32-year-old Andersonville resident Caleb Cannon.

The friend told detectives that they had gone to Burgess’ home in Hermitage and noticed her car was parked out front and her dogs were walking around freely instead of in their crates. A neighbor said he/she saw two people carrying something out of the home’s back door on May 24.

Jury selection for man accused of burning child

June 10, 2014 2:00 AM

BRENTWOOD (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled in a New Hampshire courtroom for a man accused of severely beating and burning the 3-year-old son of his girlfriend.

Roland Dow pleaded not guilty to multiple assault charges in 2012. He and the boy's mother were arrested at the Universal Studios theme park in Florida two weeks after the boy was hospitalized with a brain injury and burns to his wrist and fingers.

The mother, Jessica Linscott of Plaistow, pleaded guilty last year to witness tampering and endangering her son's welfare, and was sentenced to at least 2 ½ years in prison. She is expected to testify against the 27-year-old Dow.

Police said Dow and Linscott told them the boy's injuries were self-inflicted.

Jury selection was scheduled Monday in Rockingham County Superior Court.

Alaska Family Disappearance Puzzles Police

Posted on Monday 16 June 2014

Developing Stories - Page 18 Compo-1-640x380

The disappearance of a woman, her two small daughters and her boyfriend in a small Alaska community is puzzling investigators.

Rebecca Adams, her two daughters Michelle Hundley, five, and Jarraca Hundley, three, and her boyfriend Brandon Jividen disappeared around May 27.

They live in a home in Kenai, a coastal community of about 7,300 residents 65 miles (105 km) southwest of Anchorage.

Cars belonging to Mr Jividen, 37, and Ms Adams 22, remain parked at the home, and their mobile phones have been turned off.

The family apparently left behind clothes, outdoor gear and the car seats for the children.

Their brown and white English springer spaniel named Sparks is also missing.

In the latest twist, police want to question Ms Adams' former mother-in-law to seek information about the family.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Missing Valrico teen Ashley Lyon and registered sex offender Steven Myers were found in Louisiana early Thursday morning.  She had multiple stab wounds.

Just before 1:00, the Iberville Sheriff's Office in Louisiana notified Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office that Lyon, 16, and Myers, 41, were in custody.

Lyon was reported missing earlier this week and was suspected of traveling with Myers.

Because of national media attention, patrons at a truck stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana, notified the Iberville Sheriff's Office when they recognized Myers and Lyon as they walked in.

Deputies arrived to find the pair in a Chevy 3500 flatbed pickup truck, and attempted a traffic stop.

Left: Steven Patrick Myers, 41, was twice convicted of child molestation. Right: Ashley Lyon, 16, went missing on Friday, and investigators and her parents believed she left with Myers. Her family said she had exchanged thousands of text messages with him.

Missing Valrico teen Ashley Lyon, 16, was in critical condition with multiple stab wounds in a Louisiana hospital early Thursday after she was found with registered sex offender Steven Patrick Myers, deputies said.

The pair were spotted at the Tiger Truck Stop near Grosse Tete, La., at about midnight. A patron recognized them and contacted the Iberville Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they found Lyon and Myers in a Chevy 3500 flatbed pickup. They tried to stop them but Myers, who was driving, fled.

A chase ensued, stretching more than 40 miles to Lafayette, La., authorities said. Myers ran into four other cars in what authorities said was an attempt to create roadblocks behind him.

A 33-year-old Georgia man has been charged with felony murder after leaving his 22-month-old son in a sweltering car on Wednesday, police said.

Justin Ross Harris, of Marietta, Ga., said he forgot that his son was in the backseat of Hyundai Tuscon, and left him strapped into a car seat for nearly seven hours while he went to work, police said.

The child was left in 88-degree heat, and was discovered dead outside the Akers Mill Square shopping center in Marietta about 4:30 p.m., according to a copy of a warrant charging Harris with murder.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told the Los Angeles Times that officers arrived to find a crowd circling Harris’ car.

This same thing happened in Charlotte NC a few years ago. The father was either a doctor or dentist and was not used to dropping baby off at day care. He was not arrested and they did nothing to him, and I think it was because he had money and could pay his way out of it.

They claimed it was an accident and he didn't mean to harm the baby. I'm sure this man didn't mean to do it either.

Police probe death of Georgia toddler

Police suggest story is more than 22-month-old being left in hot car

UPDATED 8:04 AM CDT Jun 21, 2014
By Victor Blackwell CNN

(CNN) —It was a tragedy from the outset: a toddler found dead apparently after being left alone for hours in a hot car, a distraught father blaming himself and facing serious criminal charges.

Now, Cobb County, Georgia, police imply there is more -- much more -- to the story.

"Much has changed about the circumstances leading up to the death of this 22-month-old since it was first reported," Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told CNN. He would not elaborate, citing an ongoing investigation, but his words made it clear this was not just another case of a young life left and lost to heat exposure in a hot car.

"I've been in law enforcement for 34 years. What I know about this case shocks my conscience as a police officer, a father and a grandfather," said Pierce.

Initially, Justin Ross Harris, 33, told Cobb County police that he accidentally left his toddler son in his SUV on Wednesday. According to police, Harris told them he had forgotten to drop the child off at a day care center before going to work.

MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) - Cobb County investigators said it will likely be next week before the cause of death can be released in the case of Cooper Harris, the 22 month-old boy found dead by his father, Justin Ross Harris, in the backseat of his car Wednesday evening. Police said Harris had his son with him on his way to work Wednesday, but accidentally left the boy in the backseat all day.

However, Sgt. Dana Pierce said Friday that the information currently known to the public in this case is "just the tip of the iceberg," and that other pertinent details are likely to not be released by investigators until the case goes to trial.

Pierce also confirmed that investigators served search warrants at a Home Depot facility near Akers Mill, where Harris worked Wednesday morning and afternoon before discovering his son dead. Pierce said the cause of death has not yet been released because the Medical Examiner and investigators are still working to confirm all aspects of the case.

Re the death of the Harris baby:

The little boy was old enough to talk; why did the child not call out to his father? Did the child not speak on the short trip? That is odd. Kids chatter and Dad would have known he was in the vehicle.

I am placing my belief in the child being killed in the home.
Parent(s) dressed him and put him in the car seat.
Problem with this: IF the child's diaper was clean... body fluids pass at time of death or shortly before. If the child's diaper/clothing were clean then he had to have died elsewhere.

It is interesting the father works SEVEN hours.
Not four or eight but SEVEN.
And the father did NOT see a child in the back of the vehicle when he left work?
And the father did NOT grab a bite out for lunch?
And the father did NOT pick a child up from day care?

It does not add up.

When I have my great-grandson in the back seat with me, he is prone to falling asleep after a long school day. I always call his name and make him talk to me about his day. If I let him sleep till we get where we are going, he is very ill when I wake him.

Even when my grands and great-grands were little, I always talked to them while we were riding. I can't believe anyone could put a 22 month old in the back seat and not talk to them. You are right, something is very wrong here.
