Man reported missing from downtown Milwaukee (VIDEO)

His girlfriend didn't go after him because she said she was upset that he had had too much to drink, but began to worry when she hadn't heard from him by 4 a.m.
"The bouncers said they saw a video of him walking through the alleyway, so we're trying to retrace his steps, thinking of maybe his thought process, where he would want to go or what he would try to do," said Nick Vetta, who was with Wilcox that night.
Police said they have been asked by his family to assist in the search.

MILWAUKEE---His family and friends spent another day searching Wednesday but still no sign of 24 year old Nick Wilcox.
CBS 58's Stephanie Brown reported from downtown, that an all day canvassing by family had turned up no clues as to what happened to Nick after he left the Irish Rec Room along Old World Third Street New Year's Eve.
Kelly McGonagil, Nick's girlfriend, said after he was escorted out of the bar she assumed he would just get home on his own as he had done in the past. But when she tried to call him on his cell phone, the phone was dead.

Family continues search for missing Milwaukee man
Nick Wilcox disappeared on New Year's Eve

MILWAUKEE —One week ago, Nick Wilcox disappeared after celebrating New Year's Eve and as the search for him continues, his family is issuing an emotional plea.
~Snipped~
Dozens of searches across the city have turned up nothing but his family is not planning on quitting anytime soon.
"I don't plan on giving up, my dad's not giving up, none of his friends are going to give up, and I heard from a lot of his friends today who said, 'what's going on, what are we doing?'" Wilcox's sister, Andrea Wilcox, said.
The family is working on broadening the search beyond the Milwaukee area. They say communities in Madison and Green Bay know very little about this case and that it's possible the 24-year-old could be anywhere at this point.
But they are also realistic of the situation.

Medical examiner identifies body pulled from river
Nick Wilcox disappeared New Year's Day
UPDATED 7:55 PM CDT Mar 29, 2013
~Snipped~
WISN 12 News learned Friday morning that the medical examiner confirmed through dental records and identification located in a wallet that the body is that of Nick Wilcox.
~Snipped~
Chris Schmidt is a community volunteer who organized vigils and spearheaded searches for Wilcox.
"I really wish there would have been a different outcome, but I thank the Lord that we did find Nick, and now the family can have some closure," said Schmidt of Operation Locate Our Children.
Schmidt said he's searched the river walk dozens of times. He figured warmer temperatures brought Wilcox's body to the surface.
"It does not make sense to me," Schmidt said.
Wilcox was a student at UW-Milwaukee. He is the third person to drown in the river in the past 12 months.
Thomas Hecht, 28, went missing on March 10, 2012 after a pub crawl. His body was found 12 days later in the river near Pleasant and Water streets.
The body of Robert Silverman, 51, was found in the river on Jan. 6, 2013 near Water Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

The 24-year-old was pulled from the Milwaukee River — months after he disappeared while celebrating with friends on New Year’s Eve.
The Medical Examiner’s Office says Wilcox’s blood alcohol level was .22.
Milwaukee police say Wilcox’s body was pulled from the river on March 28th.
An autopsy performed Friday morning, March 29th found no trauma or injury and attributes the death to accidental drowning.

Blood-Alcohol Concentration (BAC)
Post Morten
Excerpts
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of ethanol in postmortem specimens is a relatively simple analytical procedure and with gas chromatographic methods, accurate, precise, and specific results are possible. However, difficulties arise when the concentration of alcohol in a postmortem blood specimen is interpreted and conclusions are drawn about a person’s state of inebriation at the time of death. Translating a BAC determined at autopsy (called necropsy in UK) into the amount of alcohol in the body at the time of death is subject to considerable uncertainty.
A major problem associated with postmortem alcohol analysis is the risk that the alcohol, at least in part, was generated or destroyed between the time of death and the time of the autopsy or after taking the specimens and performing the toxicological analysis. This becomes a major dilemma when decomposed bodies are examined and requests are made for alcohol analysis. The blood-glucose concentration increases after death owing to mobilization and hydrolysis of glycogen stores in the liver and muscle tissue thus providing abundant substrate for microbial synthesis of alcohol. This occurs by various processes when the conditions of time, temperature and number and nature of available microorganisms are optimal.
After death the process of autolysis begins and body compartments are progressively destroyed. Within a few hours of death, bacteria and microorganisms begin to spread from the gastrointestinal canal through the portal system, and eventually reach deep into the vascular system. If alcohol was present in the stomach at the time of death, e.g. if the deceased had consumed alcohol before a fatal accident, this might diffuse into surrounding tissues such as the liver, heart, lungs and major blood vessels. For this reason the analysis of alcohol in stomach contents is a common practice in forensic toxicology to compare with blood-alcohol concentration thus providing a clue as to whether the person had died shortly after drinking alcohol.
