TENNESSEE — Investigators are using the few clues they have to try to find a missing Charlotte woman. Friday, the search expanded into two counties.

Holly Fischer's family and friends said she was supposed to be back home in South End by now. But she hasn't been seen by them, since Monday when she left her parents' home in Tennessee.

Friday, as police searched in Ashe and Wilkes counties, Fischer's childhood friend told Eyewitness News that Fischer wouldn't just leave without telling anyone.

Missing Charlotte woman last seen heading home from Tennessee

CHARLOTTE – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking for the public's help in finding a missing woman.

Holly Fischer, 39, was last seen leaving Tennessee on Monday to return to her home in Charlotte. She may be driving a 2004 silver Infiniti FX35 with North Carolina license plate XYH-6678.

Fischer is 5-foot-10 and weighs about 140 pounds. Anyone who's seen her or knows where she is is asked to call 911.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Family members and friends are worried about the safety of a woman who has not returned home after leaving Knoxville earlier this week.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says 39-year-old Holly Fischer was reported missing by her father, Ted Fischer, of Knoxville.

Fischer told deputies his daughter was emotional and upset because of a divorce when she left his Knoxville home on Monday. She was heading back to her home in Charlotte, N.C.

According to the father, Holly Fischer's roommate contacted him on Wednesday, telling him that Holly never returned to their North Carolina apartment.

The search for a missing woman named Holly Fischer, a 39 year old white female from Charlotte, has been put on hold by the Ashe County Sheriff’s Department after searchers have scoured the area and found no signs of Fischer.

In an attempt to locate Fischer, officials from Knoxville, Tenn. completed a cell tower ping of Fischer’s cell phone on Thursday. Her last known location by use of cell phone was in Ashe County on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Fischer was last seen by her father in Knoxville, Tenn. on Monday, May 27. Law enforcement officials from Ashe and Wilkes counties, along with Ashe County Rescue Squad and fire departments from Glendale Springs and Wilbar were on scene and assisting with the search.

Husband of missing Charlotte woman holds hope for safe return

CHARLOTTE — Family members of a missing Mecklenburg County woman are fearing the worst.

Investigators say Holly Fischer was last seen Monday leaving her parents home in Tennessee. Several agencies have been looking for her.

Fischer's husband, Ali Givit, is staying in Charlotte while authorizes search for his wife.

“I'm hoping they can find her as soon as possible,” said Givit.

“We were supposed to meet when she come back Charlotte. She was supposed to call me on Monday so I called and texted her but she never responded,” said Givit.

Givit and Fischer are legally married but currently separated.

“I know it has been real tough on her,” said Givit.

He hopes her disappearance is her way of taking time off.

“She's not the kind of person who would do anything weird or stupid,” said Givit

The Ashe County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina has conducted an air and land search of an area near the Blue Ridge Parkway over the past two days.

Search continues for missing Charlotte woman

Crews searched on foot and by helicopter Friday in North Carolina’s mountains, looking for a 39-year-old Charlotte woman who hasn’t been seen since leaving her parent’s home Monday in Tennessee.

This is a complex investigation, being conducted by several law enforcement agencies,” Hillary Coward, a spokeswoman for the Knox County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office, said Friday.

Authorities say Fischer used her bank card Monday afternoon at a convenience store on Interstate 40 in Newport, Tenn., east of Knoxville and along the route she always traveled between her parents’ home and Charlotte. She has not been seen since.

The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office says her cell phone was last used about 5 p.m. Thursday somewhere in the rugged, mountainous area near the Ashe-Wilkes county line. Searchers looked Thursday along N.C. 16 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the search expanded to the eastern part of the county Friday.

There also have been no reported sightings of the car she was driving.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Friday night there was still no sign of Holly Fischer, a Charlotte woman who vanished on her way home from a trip to Tennessee.

It's been four days since anyone has seen or heard from Fischer and her best friend told NBC Charlotte that she's convinced she's in trouble here in Charlotte.

“I feel some kind of foul play occurred in Charlotte and I feel like somehow that phone of hers was put in Ashe county for a reason because people knew there was a family home up there and it was a way of getting people to look somewhere else,” Stafford said.

Now she's just hoping people in Charlotte will be able to bring her friend home.

The search continues today in the rural mountainous area of Ashe and Wilkes County for Holly Fischer, a 39 year old white female from Charlotte.

Ms. Fischer was last seen by her father in Knoxville Tennessee on Monday, May 27. Law enforcement officials from Ashe and Wilkes Counties, along with Ashe County Rescue Squad and fire departments from Glendale Springs and Wilbar are on scene and assisting with the search. The North Carolina Highway Patrol sent a search unit via helicopter to search the area.

Yesterday, officials from Knoxville, TN completed a cell tower ping of her cell phone. Her last known location by use of cell phone was in Ashe County on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sheriff Williams stated that “Getting an exact location of the phone is made more difficult by the rugged terrain. Searchers are concentrating on locating the 2004 silver Infinity FX35 with the NC registration plate XYH-6678 that Ms. Fischer was last seen driving”.

As of 3:20 PM, all searchs in Ashe County have been exhausted. The search of Ms. Fischer has been conducted for 3 days, all areas have been thouroughly searched that we believe she may be. Search and rescue will continue in the event we receive any new information.

DENVER, N.C. — Friends of Holly Fischer are gearing up for a search Sunday morning. They told Eyewitness News they will be searching for Fischer’s car in Wilkesboro.

Friend Liz Stafford is spearheading a new search for her friend. Outside her home, Stafford spoke to the media about her missing friend.

"And we are just keeping our focus on Holly to get her home,” she said.

Fischer’s roommate spoke to Eyewitness News by phone on Saturday.

70 volunteers help search for missing Charlotte woman

WILKESBORO, N.C. - Friends, family and police are continuing their search for a missing Charlotte woman.

Friends of Holly Fischer organized a search party Sunday with almost 70 volunteers in Wilkesboro.

Police said Fischer's cellphone was last pinged near Wilkes County.

Sheriff James Williams of Ashe County said he doesn't have any theories on what happened.

"We know that at 5:58 p.m. on Monday, Holly was in North Wilkesboro," said her longtime friend Liz Stafford Ajello.

Park Police say Holly's cellphone was pinged on park property, giving search operations a more specified area to look.

CBS) JEFFERSON, NC - Authorities in Wilkes County say they have found the body of missing North Carolina woman Holly Fischer in her car, down an embankment off Highway 16, according to CBS affiliate WBTV.

The station reports Fischer's vehicle was found on Sunday night off a highway in Wilkes County, but rescuers were not able to get to the car until Monday morning. Once they did, they found the Fischer's body inside.

Friends and family members had reportedly been searching for the 39-year-old woman who disappeared May 27. Fischer had left her parents' home in Knoxville, Tenn. to presumably return to her hometo Charlotte, N.C.

WBTV reports police had previously said foul play is a possibility. The investigation is ongoing

WILKESBORO, N.C. — The family of a missing Charlotte woman has confirmed to WSOC her body was found inside a vehicle discovered Monday morning in Wilkes County.

In a statement, the family confirmed 39-year-old Holly Fischer’s body was found inside her vehicle near Highway 16.

“The Fischer family can now confirm that Holly Fischer’s car has been located. The car was located off Highway 16 in Millers Creek, N.C. It is with unbearable sadness that we can also confirm that she was not found alive. Our hearts are broken,” the family said.

A member of the search party noticed broken trees around the accident scene Sunday night. Rescue teams tried to reach her car.

They were searching that area because of Fischer's cell phone, which pinged off a nearby cell phone tower.

Her car went over the embankment just a few feet from a guard rail.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why Fischer's car crashed. They said there's no evidence of braking or swerving to avoid the cliff.

Wilkes County sheriff doesn't know if foul play is involved. Deputies are treating it as a death investigation for now.

WILKES COUNTY, N. C. -- The Ashe County Sheriff's Office has confirmed they discovered a body of a white female near the crash scene of where a Charlotte woman's vehicle was found.

The vehicle driven by a Holly Fischer, who has been missing for a week, was found overnight in a mountain area near the Wilkes-Ashe county line, a source at the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning.

Authorities found a body near the scene a few moments after discovering the vehicle, according to the Ashe County Sheriff's Office.

The family of a missing 39-year-old Charlotte woman mysteriously missing for a week confirmed today that her body has been found inside the mangled wreck of her car - at the bottom of a 1000-foot ravine.

A statement released by Holly Fischer's relatives said it was 'unbearable sadness that we can also confirm she was not found alive. Our hearts are broken.'

Authorities found the body of Holly Fischer, 39, of Charlotte, near Highway 16 along the border of Wilkes and Ashe counties. Rescue crews tried to rappel down an 800-foot embankment late Sunday after a friend of the family spotted what looked like the 2004 silver Infinity Fischer was last seen driving as she left her parents’ house in Knoxville, Tenn., but rough terrain and darkness hampered efforts.

Rescuers resumed the search early Monday and found Fischer’s body nearby, authorities said. It was not clear if she was thrown from the vehicle or managed to climb out before dying.

Shew said that because it was near the car and other circumstantial evidence, investigators believe the body found when investigators and others reached the scene about 10 a.m. Monday was Ms. Fischer and that she was thrown from the vehicle. Business cards with her name were found there.

A spokesman for the state medical examiner’s office in Chapel Hill, where the decomposed body was taken Monday, said it could be three to four months before an autopsy is completed and results are available. The spokesman said the office doesn’t release preliminary autopsy results.

They searched along the Blue Ridge Parkway near N.C. 16 and later in the Darnell Creek Road area off Sheets Gap Road in Wilbar due to signals detected there from Ms. Fischer’s cell phone. At least one law enforcement officer looked where it was later determined Ms. Fisher’s car went off N.C. 16.
