Baby remains found in upstate New York identified as those of 9-month-old Levon Wameling: cops

The grim findings were determined with DNA tests. Wameling had been missing since May, when his father Jevon Wameling, 27, says he left the baby unattended for a few minutes while he crawled through a window to get inside his home after locking himself out.

Baby Levon’s mother, Amy Warney, was at a drug rehab center when Levon disappeared.

DNA testing identified the baby boy who was found dead earlier this month in an upstate New York river as an infant who went missing in May at just nine months old.

The Utica Police Department released a statement Saturday saying the remains are those of Levon Wameling.

Baby Levon Wameling suffered skull fracture, autopsy finds

Utica, NY -- An autopsy on the body of baby Levon Wameling found the infant suffered a 1-inch skull fracture, Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said today.

Wameling, who disappeared nearly four months ago, was found by police divers Sept. 6 in a container at the bottom of the Mohawk River, Williams said.

The young boy's body was sent for a forensic autopsy to Albany, the chief said. That's when the 1-inch fracture was discovered.

It's still not known how the baby died, Williams said.

Levon Wameling laid to rest

UTICA, N.Y. -- The family of Levon Wameling can finally lay the child to rest. A funeral service was held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church. About 200 people attended to pay their respects.

Levon disappeared back in May. Utica police and the community searched for the child for months. About a month ago, police found the child's body in the Mohawk River.

Levon would have turned one in August.

It's incomprehensible Wameling isn't going away for 50 years, especially considering this isn't the first baby who died while on his watch. IIRC, a baby he had with another woman had supposedly smothered to death while sleeping in bed with Wameling. gah.

I look at at that precious baby and feel so sad, angry and despair for him and and all the other beaten and murdered babies. Sad and despair for the babies, anger and pure disgust for the parents...I really need to stop following these cases.
