Following Michael Dunn's testimony in his own defense Tuesday in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis, the defense rested its case.

Dunn, who shot Davis after exchanging words about loud music in a Gate station parking lot, told the jury that he feared for his life when he opened fire.

As the first witness Tuesday -- the fifth day of testimony in his trial on a charge of first-degree murder -- Dunn described pulling into the parking lot on Nov. 23, 2012, and his fiancee going inside. He said he asked the teens in the SUV parked next to him to turn down the music with booming bass. He said initially they did, then the teenager in the back seat -- later identified as Davis -- started cursing and asked the teen in the front seat to turn it back up.

...Prosecutor John Guy then cross-examined Dunn and was trying to show that Dunn's stories changed. He hammered down the fact that if this really was a case of self-defense, Dunn should have called 911.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Michael Dunn was shooting to kill, not defending himself, when he fired at 17-year-old Jordan Davis after the two had an argument over loud music outside a Jacksonville convenience store, prosecutors said during closing arguments on Tuesday in the second trial in the case.

...Wolfson delivered the prosecution's closing statement, saying the danger to Dunn was not real but perceived, and the law of self-defense doesn't allow for that. Wolfson said the threat was not real because there was no gun in the SUV.

"Let me be very clear: There was no shotgun in that red Durango that night," Wolfson said.



...Defense attorney Waffa Hanania followed, saying Dunn is not guilty because he was acting in self-defense.

Hanania said Davis was yelling at Dunn, threatening him and getting out of the SUV toward Dunn's car. She said that whether there was one or not, Dunn reasonably believed that he saw a shotgun.

Davis does not believe Dunn has shown any remorse at any time.

I completely agree with Jordan's father, Dunn has never shown remorse for killing Jordan. It is all about Dunn, and his self defense theory.

I have a problem with the prosecution using the letters that he wrote to his family because those letters are self serving, he wrote them to support the scenario that he had created to justify the shooting. Perhaps the defense was going to use the letters to substantiate the idea that Michael Dunn's letter were consistent with what he had told the detectives when he was questioned after his arrest. But, there were also inconsistencies in his letters and the prosecution seized the opportunity to use them against him.

I hope this jury doesn't make the same mistake and is able to see through the defense strategy, the defense's  closing argument totally place the blame on the victim; Dunn was "threatened, attacked and intimidated by Jordan Davis" so that justifies the killing. I can only imagine what Jordan's parents have to endure by being present at the trial of the killer of their son.

Hi, Alessandra!  I totally agree with you.  That letter was indeed self-serving.  It pains me every time they blame the victim in any case, so my heart goes out to Jordan Davis' parents.  To hear him being described as an "attacker" must be very difficult, along with everything else they have to re-listen to again.

Hopefully, the jury will realize that no one else corroborates Dunn's story.  Let's hope we get the right outcome this time.

Jacksonville, Florida (CNN) -- Jurors found Michael Dunn guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in the 2012 shooting death 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

Dunn's parents were in the courtroom for the verdict. Davis' parents, Ron Davis and Lucia MacBath, both let out a quiet gasp upon hearing the jury forewoman's words and then hung their heads and cried.

Dunn did not appear to have an immediate reaction, but later, he turned around and somberly shook his head toward his father.

...Prosecutor Angela Corey said Dunn faces a life term along with a minimum of 25 to life for using a firearm.

"It's a vindication for justice," she said of the verdict.

"We believe that we have to have as much justice as we can to assure that Michael Dunn will never ever walk out of a prison."

Because of the pattern, I would fully expect the def atty to immediately file for appeal. Based on the actions and findings of earlier jury, it would be normal.

I would hope he would be denied bond while appealing.
Whether it is 25 years or life, he will probably die in prison.
His life is over!

Stupid choices he made that day and he will pay for that.
Let's see how tolerant he is of others while doing time.

Michael Dunn, who murdered 17-year-old Jordan Davis in 2012, was found guilty of his crimes yesterday by a jury of his peers. Finally, justice has been served on behalf of an innocent kid killed by a violent, slick-talking pig.

...Testimony from Charles Hendrix, Dunn’s neighbor, illustrates the guilty as a violent and angry man who was waiting for any chance or perceived reason to shoot somebody. During an interview with Nancy Grace, Hendrix said “there were several times where he made comments that, ‘I can’t wait for somebody to try something with me when I have my gun.’”

...“What you see in public isn’t necessarily what you get behind closed doors,” said Hendrix. “[He’s] an egotistical and arrogant individual. He’s always right and smarter than everybody else. . . He’s a very angry man.”

I don't believe that Dunn will be allowed to be free on bond while awaiting a decision from the court of appeals like John Goodman, the Polo tycoon. Goodman is getting the best justice that money can buy ... IYKWIM.

Twenty-three months after Michael Dunn shot and killed Jordan Davis, the 47-year-old man will stand before a jury, and the jury will decide his punishment.

A jury convicted Dunn last month of first-degree murder, and in February, another jury convicted him on three counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into a car.

He faces life in prison for the murder conviction and a minimum of 20 years for each of the attempted-murder convictions. The State Attorney’s Office did not seek the death penalty.

State Attorney Angela Corey said in February it was because the legal facts of the case didn’t rise to a death sentencing, and Davis’ father, Ron Davis, said Thursday that he and Davis’ mother never wanted Dunn to be executed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -  Friday morning, Michael Dunn is scheduled to learn his punishment for murdering 17-year-old Jordan Davis and firing a gun at three of his friends but his attorneys will argue he deserves a new trial because of several rulings made by the judge during his retrial.

News4Jax has confirmed that Jordan Davis' parents will address Dunn in the courtroom after the sentencing. The entire hearing, plus the parents' statement, will be streamed live on News4Jax.com.

Earlier this week his attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial, challenging multiple rulings by Judge Russell Healey during the retrial. They state they're filing this motion for three main reasons:

•The retrial should have been moved from Duval County.

•A juror was dismissed without evidence of misconduct.

Jordan's dad, Ron Davis, says the past couple of years have been tough and they're ready to move forward.

Michael Dunn sentenced to life in prison

Michael Dunn was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole for murdering 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

The sentence also carries an additional 90 years for three convictions of attempted murder -- 30 years for each count to run consecutively -- and firing a gun into an occupied vehicle -- 15 years to run concurrently.

Before sentencing Dunn, Judge Russell Healey addressed him.

"Mr. Dunn, your life is effectively over," he said.

Healey said there was a huge misunderstanding about the "stand your ground" law in the case. He said there is nothing wrong with retreating or de-escalating a situation.

"Mr. Dunn, this tragedy should have and could have been prevented," Healey said.

Before the victim impact statements, Healey denied a motion for a new trial for Dunn.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Emotional testimony today in the sentencing of Michel Dunn, who was found guilty earlier this month of first degree murder, and found guilty of three charges of attempted murder at his first trial in February.

Guided by mandatory minimums Circuit Court Judge Russell Healey sent Dunn to prison for the rest of his life – life plus 105 years. That was 30 for each attempted murder charge plus 15 for shooting into an occupied vehicle and life in prison for first degree murder of Jordan Davis.

Several jurors including two alternates showed up for sentencing, which officials told First Coast News was a first for Duval County.

Many observers were overcome during testimony from Jordan's parents and the family members of Dunn's three surviving teenage victims. Bailiffs, jurors, even the judge choked up as family discussed the loss of the 17 year old Davis.

PARK CITY, Utah -- The documentary film inspired by the 2012 murder of Jordan Davis continues to gain critical acclaim.

"3 1/2 Minutes" debuted to sold-out audiences at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah last week.

Not long after its final screening concluded, news broke online that HBO had purchased the film's domestic distribution rights.

Now, the festival has selected "3 1/2 Minutes" as this year's winner in the category of U.S Documentary Special Jury Award for Social Impact.

"We talked about that as a group and none of us ever believed there was gun," he responded. "All the testimony witnesses gave that the got out of the car and came around to check on their friend, no one ever saw anything that even looked like or resembled a gun."

...Wayne Davis points out after the shooting, Dunn drove his fiance back to their hotel, he walked the dog, ordered a pizza, poured some drinks, but didn't report what happened.

"He left and everybody else came back. He never called, he never called anybody to the scene, that he saw a gun, that he was in danger -- just left," he said.

...So what solidified the guilty verdict of first-degree murder, a decision the jurors knew would put Dunn in prison for the rest of his life?

"From the judge's instructions of what premeditation was, it really came down to the all the steps he had to take to get to the gun, turn around and shoot that gun. They said there was no time limit for it, so we as a jury actually counted the amount of steps to get to that gun," Wayne Davis explained. "One, reach for the glove box. Two, open the glove box. Three, reach in. Four, pull it out. Five, pull it out of the holster. Six, cock it, Seven, turn around and shoot. All that is premeditation. Pretty much from that I had to render first degree. That's the law, whether I agree or not, whether I believe that or not, that is our law."

Searching for Michael Dunn? Keep looking; the state is hiding his location

Convicted killer Michael Dunn is in a prison, but the state of Florida isn’t saying which one.

State Department of Corrections officials cited a law that says they can’t release an inmate’s location if it would jeopardize his or her safety.

Most prison inmates’ location can be found in an online database. Dunn’s name isn’t listed there.

...Even if Dunn’s location wasn’t listed in its database, First Amendment Foundation President Barbara Petersen said, the department should still at least list his name, his date of incarceration and sentence length.

“I find this rather absurd since he’s in presumably maximum-security prison,” Petersen said. “To give him complete anonymity by even deleting his name is misleading at best. Providing access to the name of the prisoner doesn’t jeopardize his safety at all. We know Michael Dunn is in prison, but we don’t know where.”

Lawyers for Michael Dunn request more time to file appeal

An appeal of the guilty verdict and life sentence in one of the most high-profile trials in Jacksonville history will take a little bit longer to be filed.

The 1st District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee set a deadline for the final week in April for when lawyers for Michael David Dunn, 48, need to file the initial brief in his appeal. But days after the brief was due, Tallahassee appellate lawyer Terry Roberts asked for more time.

In a two-page motion requesting an extension, Roberts said he needed an extra 30 days. Roberts said the Florida attorney general, who will represent the state in the appeal, had no objection to the delay.

The new deadline is June 29.
