Not sure. Maybe, try to get the judge to issue sanctions against her in presence of the jury, many sidebars, many objections by prosecution? Then, declare the jury has been unduly influenced and may have a bias. Perhaps, in presence of the jury, state the judge herself is biased against JA....I am sure JA would like to stretch this out as long as she can and she would feel she could control the outcome more if she had a male judge...
Just my guesses....
Holy Moly Freckles, I hadn't even thought of anything you said which is all very valid and having a male judge is sooooo like her. Oh how I wish we could watch this train wreck happen.

Apparently, Arias has hired a Private Investigator and wants evidence looked into at the Mesa PD.
Well in my opinion, if it's not allowed in she's going to use it in appeals and say evidence wasn't allowed in in support of her Defense. What she doesn't realize is that it has to be some pretty damn compelling evidence to overturn a First Degree Murder conviction. DOES THE MADNESS EVER END?!

NURMI HAS OFFICIALLY FILED HIS MOTION TO WITHDRAW FROM THE ARIAS CASE.
*** Against Judge Stephens advice, Arias was granted her Motion to go Pro Se, meaning represent herself. The judge granted it. I think this is just a courtroom technicalities thing. He has to "officially" withdraw from the case. Arias is on her own. She may refer to Wilmont during the trial but who knows!? Perhaps Judge Stephens won't let Nurmi off the hook.

Hi, Sitemama! Hope your summer is comfortable and reasonably cool.
Judge has been thru this before w/ JA wanting or not wanting her attorneys.
I don't think Nurmi will be let completely off the hook.
He knows the case, he knows the laws and he will be paid to advise her.
She wants a different atty, she will have to pay for one and Nurmi will STILL be there.
This is just the penalty phase.
Trial should be just a few days or a couple of weeks at most.
Jennifer whats=her=name will have to stay on as she is the death penalty atty... Nurmi is not.
JA is like a kid in a candy store except she is trying to wreck the store. Don't worry. The store was built to withstand the likes of a JA....
I do think witness Hughes will have ALL his testimony re-examined.
He is the one who took pics of his friend throwing down the beautifully balanced rocks over in Bryce/Zion National parks...
At first, Hughes lied and said he had no info... and that will open the door for possible impeachment of his statements. That will be a real mess.

Maybe she will put the noose around her own neck and pull it real tight with this decision. I was not sure to laugh at first or just be in shock but she is Jodi Aries. She feels she has control of this and nobody can out smart her.

Gosh. Years ago I used to think I could be in control of at least my own life.
Then I discovered things I could not control....and those very things could control me.
1. Laws
2. Adults
3. Dad
4. Dog, cat, skunks....
5. Weather
6. Seasons
7. Babies and little ones
8. Love
9. God
10. Time
11. The wind
12. Growth
13. Other people....

Good point Freckles. I thought being a mom was stressful until I got old and now I can not remember what I was stressed over. Even writing notes bites because I can not even read my own handwriting.

Isn't this fun getting old?
Older?
Or maybe, it is just funny....
I am great at writing the notes.
My problem is I can never recall just where I LEFT the note!
So my poor kitchen door has become a catch-all with notes taped all over the door.
Notes with phone numbers or notes showing next year's garden arrangement...
notes of expired coupons and rainchecks to grab on the way out the door.
I bought some little pocket notebooks but the pages have been filled with priceless....
nonsense. Mix of ideas I once thot important and more unidentified phone numbers....
Just yesterday, so it seems, I was invincible.
I could knead several loaves of bread in one morning or rake an entire yard in an afternoon.
Now I sit and wait for the wind to blow those pesky leaves away....

Well we all should be as smart as Jodi Aries. You are facing the death penalty and decide to let go all your lawyers and put on a circus. Hope she has plenty of clowns cause that girl is not going to be laughing much at the end.
All else aside I really feel for his family to have to sit thru all of it. I believe this is a way for them to drop the death sentence. Jodi feels she is so mch smarter then everyone else but she is showing how stupid she really is. Juan will chew her up and spit her out. There may not be enough pieces left to put together.

I agree Nene Jody Arias thinks she can outdo Juan, I would love to be a fly in that courtroom wall watching it all happen. I think she has made a grave mistake in doing this so we will see what happens.

Jodi Arias seeks delay of penalty phase retrial
"PHOENIX (AP) — Jodi Arias asked a judge Wednesday to postpone the second penalty phase of her murder trial, explaining she would no longer represent herself if one of her two attorneys is allowed to quit the case."
" ... However, one of those attorneys asked the judge on Wednesday to let him quit the case. Lawyer Kirk Nurmi explained in a motion filed last week that "a completely fractured relationship between counsel (and client) now exists....."
" ...The hearing on Wednesday marked the first time Arias had argued her own motions. She spoke softly while seated at a defense table alongside the two lawyers, one of whom occasionally whispered in her ear.
Arias asked for the delay to give her time to interview an expert witness she plans to call to testify and to review evidence.
Prosecutor Juan Martinez vehemently objected, noting the case has dragged on long enough. He said the ruling that allowed Arias to represent herself also said there would be no delays.
"She agreed to those terms," Martinez told the judge....."
" ...she would no longer serve as her own attorney and would allow her other lawyer, Jennifer Willmott, to argue the case if Nurmi was permitted to quit....."

New hearing to hear these motions set for Aug 22, 2014.
IMO, JA thinks she can push Judge Stephens around. Judge seems to have difficulty saying no and sticking to her guns. Too much time serving in juvenile court, perhaps? JA appears to be trying to toss Nurmi and getting Wilmot. Perhaps JA thinks the "ol gals" can get her out of this by using emotional appeal? Emotional appeal did not seem to work on Nurmi.... and I do believe he does not want this losing case on his record for a minute longer.

".....She also told Judge Sherry Stephens that she would stop representing herself -- and let an advisory lawyer represent her -- if Kirk Nurmi, her attorney during her murder trial, was allowed to quit the case, according to Vincent Funari, a Public Information Officer for the Superior Court of Arizona.
Nurmi has begged the judge to let him off the case for good, now that Arias is representing herself. He says that since he's only acting as an adviser, his role is not as crucial as it was before. The judge has yet to rule on his request. ...."
http://www.hlntv.com/article/2014/08/13/jodi-arias-represent-self-delay-trial-kirk-nurmi
What is to say JA decides she no longer WANTS to represent herself?
What if JA as lead atty decides to fire Wilmot and keep the check for herself?
Would she get paid for her own representation?
What if JA wants ENTIRE new legal team?
I see JA moving for more and more delays.
She is running scared now and fighting to stay in control, stay on top as a drowning person will do.... climb on the others even if it means everyone dies.
JA is ALL about control.

I still find myself fascinated by this circus. The judge is bending over backwards to protect HER record and reputation from appeals and letting JA run roughshod over the court system. Wish judge Stephens would grow a set and slam the gravel down on this obvious stalling tactic.

Re: Jodi Arias--Trial for the murder of Travis Alexander #24
I believe the judge is simply following the letter of the law; there are constitutional rights that protect criminal defendants, it is called due process. There has to be a valid legal reason for a judge to grant a continuance at any stage of a trial. I think the judge doesn't want to make a ruling that can open the door to a successful appeal.
The legal system is very complicated, it seems some times that the system protects the rights of a defendant more than the rights of the victim, but it is because of the constitutional rights of the defendant (even the worse criminals) to a fair trial.
"Broadly speaking, due process rights are the claims a criminal defendant possesses when accused by the government of an illegal act. The government must respect these rights before, during, and after a criminal trial. Violating of any of the due process rights will normally void a conviction."

You must watch all the videos, they are funny. Remember when Sindy had the yard sale, and some woman bought all Casey's pants and purses. Well, she has now sold them to a man, and he is selling them on E-Bay for $800.00 each. I wouldn't put on a pair of KC's pants if they were free. I guess Cheney Mason and his wife have adopted KC. Bless her heart!!
(That's what us Southerners say about someone who is stupid.)
Here in HLNs article Jen Wood is mentioned. Thank god we have Jen to update us and HLN!:)

I agree AD...With all the delays that can be pulled from her behind will make it appear that all of her "right's" on an appeal will show how JSS bent over backwards to preserve giving the rope over to JA so that she can hang herself and it would please me to no end if the applet courts would say "nope, we're not even going to read this bs. Appeal denied!

Just when you think this case can't get any stranger...
My guess is she wants to figure out a new "self-defense" explanation that fits in the time frame that the photos made. After all, the explanation she used at the first trial obviously didn't work. Or can she not change her story now? I'm sure if she did, Martinez would point out every single contradiction. But she still seems to think she's smarter than he is.
And I'll bet she gets a kick out going back there to relive it. Just sick.

Investigator to revisit home of Travis Alexander, Jodi Arias faces sanctions
September 1, 2014
This is a really long article.
Snipped:
-----
And, as most trial watchers familiar with Jodi Arias stunts know, this is not the only update or even the latest stunt on the Jodi Arias trial. Those expecting Jodi Arias to try to be able to get away with as much as she can, should take comfort in the fact that Prosecutor for the State of Arizona, Juan Martinez is keeping a very close eye on Jodi as her own lawyer and isn't afraid to file motions for sanctions against her if she slips up.
As of Friday Aug. 29, he's already proven he is on the ball, and has already filed his first motion to sanction Jodi Arias. It appears from the motion filed with the Maricopa County courts on the afternoon of Aug. 29 that Juan Martinez is having problems getting required information from Jodi Arias.
Jodi Arias has not only not submitted her list of witnesses and their contact information as she is required to do, but by the looks of it, she is refusing to do so. In a motion filed to sanction Jodi Arias, Juan Martinez says that not only has he not been given the information she is legally obligated to provide, but that she is refusing to do so.

Well, just when I thot all the hoopla had died down from the earlier circus. the clown is back in the ring! lol Juan will eat her alive! He is going to spin circles around her and she won't know what to do.... for sure, she will not listen to the advice of her two attys who are knowledgeable and provided for her assistance. I wonder how much of the actual trial she will try to drag into his penalty phase... and Juan will continually slap her down to remind her it is the penalty phase; she has already been found guilty of the murder. . (I do see a problem with the Hughes testimony after the witness/best friend to Travis lied about the incident of destruction in the national park... and then fessed up. If he would lie then... yeah. I hope that argument will be stricken and she will be told to use that for appeals only. )
I am sure the new owners do NOT want her back in the home.
Only a fool hires himself as his own atty....

Jodi Arias updates: The 3 things Juan Martinez needs to secure death penalty
September 4, 2014
Snipped from LONG article:
-----
Possibly, he already has many advantages going in. In addition, he simply needs to do 3 other things to secure a death penalty for Jodi Arias, all of which he has already been successful in establishing with at least 8 former jurors on this case.
The first thing Juan Martinez needs to do is poke holes in her mitigating factors.
...The State simply needs to poke holes in her mitigating factors, and in her mitigation specialist Maria de la Rosa who has had her wrists slapped more than a few times in this case, to make a case for the death penalty.
The second thing Juan Martinez needs to do, which will be very easy for him to do, is emphasize the death penalty eligible element of cruelty she displayed on Travis Alexander.
...Lastly, all that Juan Martinez will need to do is showcase the multiple victims that Jodi Arias has created in the wake of the murder of Travis Alexander, her first victim.

How is she going to explain anything to the jury as she was in a FOG!!!!! Remember this......she wasn't in San Francisco the day this happened so did the fog suddenly clear up???? If so, Juan Martinez will have a field day!! ......"
So. Just HOW is she able to legally represent herself when she is clueless?

Jodi Arias no longer wants to represent herself
Associated Press By BRIAN SKOLOFF 1 hour ago
PHOENIX (AP) — Jodi Arias no longer wants to represent herself in the upcoming second penalty phase in her murder case, according to a court filing Wednesday.
The three-page document by her court-appointed attorneys notes that Arias is relinquishing her right to serve as her own lawyer, "effective immediately upon filing."
...Stephens previously told Arias she could change her mind and relinquish her right to represent herself. Her court-appointed attorneys will now again take over as lead counsel.

Re: Jodi Arias--Trial for the murder of Travis Alexander #24
If I was the current owner of Travis Alexander's home there is no way I would let anyone inside under any circumstances. I believe when the police were completely finished with their investigation they had to formally relinquish the right to again enter the crime scene and it was then allowed to be sold or what have you.
I do not think that the owners can now legally be forced by anyone to open their home!
Both sides had ample time to collect evidence and you can bet there was nothing more to be gleaned from the unfortunate property by the time it was released.
The owners have now changed and remodeled the house and it would serve no purpose for anyone connected to the case to go there.
If I were them, I would flatly refuse consent, and I am pretty darn sure there is no way for anyone to force them to allow that at this juncture...

Re: Jodi Arias--Trial for the murder of Travis Alexander #24
Didn't JA ask for access to the home when she was going to represent herself? Now that she has gone back to her old attys, she doesn't need that PI, thus he doesn't need to go into that house. And, like 18thcenturylady said, it has been redone, so what's the use.

Jodi Arias Trial Update: Judge Sherry Stephens Denies Investigators Request To Return To Murder Scene
By Donovan Longo | Sep 15 2014, 12:27PM EDT
A recent report claimed that the presiding Judge Stephens granted an investigator working for Arias permission to return to the crime scene of the murder of Travis Alexander, however that claim was actually untrue. After the news was misreported, several outlets wondered what exactly Arias’ investigator would be looking for more than five years after the crime occurred. But after clarification, the trial update is that Judge Sherry Stephens did not grant the investigator permission to return to the crime scene, the news was originally misreported due to an error in court minute entry but has since been clarified.

Jodi Arias Trial Update News 2014: Jury Selection in Arias Death Penalty Trial Scheduled to Begin Sept. 29
First Posted: Sep 18, 2014 11:52 AM EDT
The start of convicted boyfriend killer Jodi Arias' penalty phase retrial is only days away, and it looks like it will start on schedule.
...On Sept. 29, Arias' legal reps will start the jury selection process by serving 300 potential jurors with a questionnaire. The potential jurors will be broken into three seperate groups. The public will not gain access to the questions in order to keep the jury selection as fair as possible. After the questionnaire, jurors will be questioned in the courtroom.
According to the court calendar, the trial will last through the first part of Dec. with breaks in both Oct. and Nov. for holidays, KTAR News reports.

Arizona judge bars same-day coverage of Arias penalty phase retrial
5 hours ago
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens ruled broadcasters will only be able to screen the proceedings after a final outcome is reached in the closely watched case.
"The court is mindful of its obligation to allow public and media access to the trial," Stephens wrote in an order made public on Monday. "That access should not include live broadcast of the trial prior to a verdict."

Jodi Arias blackout sets dangerous precedent
3:19 p.m. MST September 22, 2014
The First Amendment took a hit on Monday morning as a Maricopa County Superior Court judge barred the airing of TV footage during the upcoming sentencing trial of Jodi Arias.
...Meanwhile, Stephens has already decreed that there will be no live streaming of the sentencing trial, no live Tweeting or Facebooking or, well, anything. (UPDATE: Stephens today said that the media will be able to Tweet from the courtroom. It seems court rules that went into effect in January overruled her November ruling, in which she prohibited the use of electronic devices during the sentencing trial.)
And now, no video clips on the nightly news – for reasons that are sealed in court documents.
...But to impose a virtual blackout is a mistake.
...If the public had influenced the jury. Arias would already be sitting on death row.

Tough road lies ahead in jury selection for Jodi Arias sentencing
Posted 10:14 AM, September 27, 2014, by Q13 FOX News Staff, Updated at 02:24pm, September 27, 2014
(CNN) — When jury selection gets underway in a Phoenix courtroom on Monday, attorneys may be hard-pressed to find jurors untainted by news of the case against Jodi Arias.
...“She’s very scared,” said Donavan Bering, a friend of Arias. “Things changed for her. She came to the realization that she didn’t want the death penalty. She wants to be able to see her mom and her family.”
...“Jodi Arias is her own worst enemy. She’s a terrible defendant,” said Zervakos, one of the four jurors who voted to spare her life. “I was candid with them. I told them it was best if she were not on the stand.”
“The strategy this time is to keep Jodi off the stand,” said a source close to the defense. “However, Jodi has a mind of her own.”

" ....Arias’ behavior before and after the murder
— allegedly stealing her grandfather’s gun,
getting rid of incriminating evidence, including the weapons used in the attack,
and a rendezvous with a prospective lover hours after killing Alexander

Left out the gas cans, phone calls after the murder, camera in the washer/dryer, the hair job, etc..

Dozens of possible jurors rejected in Arias case
1 hr ago
PHOENIX (AP) — Roughly a third of 200 potential jurors were dismissed Monday in the penalty retrial of convicted murderer Jodi Arias after telling a judge they had seen too much media coverage of her first trial to be impartial or had already made up their minds about her punishment.
Other jurors were let go due to work conflicts or language barriers, among other reasons, as jury selection began in the second attempt by prosecutors to secure a death sentence in the Arizona case that became a tabloid TV sensation.
...Some of the prospective jurors who were dismissed said they had already seen so much media coverage of the first trial that they couldn't put it out of their minds and would not be able to make a decision based only on information presented at the penalty retrial, which is expected to last into December.
...Jury selection is expected to last several weeks.

Dismissed juror on Jodi Arias: 'She needs to die'
Posted: Sep 29, 2014 5:18 PM PST Updated: Sep 29, 2014 5:36 PM PST
Skyler Maestas and Fritz Mueller were two of the prospective jurors that were dismissed Monday.
Both of them told the judge that they could not be fair and impartial, based on everything they know about Jodi Arias.
"Based off the evidence I've seen and what I've heard on TV," said Maestas. "I followed this case very closely. I could not be able to make a clear, honest decision based off of evidence presented in that court because of things I've heard. Clearly, a decision has been made on my part."
"After she was sentenced, I was shocked that the first jury didn't give her the death penalty," said Mueller. "It was pretty clear cut that she butchered her boyfriend. She needs to die."

Re: Jodi Arias--Trial for the murder of Travis Alexander #24
Attorneys filed a motion to dismiss in the Jodi Arias trial, citing mistreatment in Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's jails.
11:12 a.m. MST October 1, 2014
Attorneys for Jodi Arias filed a motion to dismiss the death penalty Wednesday morning, citing what they claim is a long litany of misconduct by the prosecutor and law enforcement.
The misconduct, they say, denies Arias the possibility of a fair trial.
...The motion refers back to the first trial, reiterating allegations that prosecutor Juan Martinez withheld evidence -- specifically Alexander's e-mails to Arias and others and a computer hard drive that contained numerous relevant images -- and failed to disclose who he would call as witnesses in a timely matter.
The motion also accuses Martinez of harassing and insulting witnesses and the defense attorneys. Those claims have been documented in stories published by The Arizona Republic.

Legally Speaking: First round of jury selection for Jodi Arias retrial finishes
By Monica Lindstrom, Co-host of The Agenda | October 1, 2014 @ 3:13 pm
Wednesday marked the end of the first round of jury selection in State v. Jodi Arias.
Approximately 176 potential jurors, whom I affectionately refer to as "survivors," now have to complete the juror questionnaire and return for small group questioning. At the very end, 16-18 jurors will be sworn in to decide whether Arias will receive the death penalty.
This jury selection started with four panels of 100 jurors each. Each panel was brought up to judge Sherry Stephens' courtroom to answer a handful of questions.
Seating in the courtroom was completely taken up by the potential jurors, Tanisha (Travis Alexander's sister) and her husband. No members of the public were allowed in and the media sat in a separate room off to the side of the courtroom.

SHERIFF ARPAIO TO BAR MEDIA INTERVIEWS OF CONVICTED KILLER JODI ARIAS
September 22, 2014
(Phoenix, AZ) In anticipation of a likely flurry of requests by local and national media to interview convicted killer, Jodi Arias, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has ordered his media relations unit to turn down those petitions.
...Since that time, Arpaio says, Arias has continued her attempts at self-aggrandizement. From her closed custody cell, she appears to be manipulating persons on the outside to help build her prestige by having them sell her artwork and personal items. Arias even attempted to have a documentary film team into the jail to feature her story. Arpaio refused to allow it.

Jodi Arias sold her (SUPPOSEDLY) authentic eyeglasses that she wore at the trial. Fortunately the money went to a Phoenix charity and NOT TO HER.
I am not seeing that it is clear she put them up for sale, but I assume she did. I don't know if SHE donated the proceeds, or if they were confiscated by the legal system or ? and given to the charity...If SHE donated, it's clearly a case of trying to make herself look like less of a monster to the new jury (master of manipulation as always).
Regardless, she did not benefit, and I think Travis would have liked that the money went to a food bank that feeds one in 5 hungry Arizonians...
