CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A bond hearing for the man accused of abducting missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham has been canceled.

Jim Camblos, Matthew’s attorney, said Wednesday that he will not ask for Matthew to be released on bond. As a result, Matthew’s preliminary hearing on the abduction charge is slated for Dec. 4.

Because of Matthew's employment at medical facilities, I would look to the disposal services for hazardous waste; in-hospital incineration, cremation of bodies/ services out sourced, etc.. He is NOT a fool IF he is a serial killer. He has a method to rapidly disposing of ALL the evidence and that makes me wonder if he is not using the medical facilities for his own purpose....

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WJLA/AP/ABC News) - The man charged with abducting University of Virginia student Hannah Graham was accused in a police file of an on-campus sexual assault at a different university in 2003.

Christopher Newport University said in a statement late Wednesday that Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr. was named in a campus police file stemming from the sexual assault on Sept. 7, 2003 on the Newport News campus.

(CNN) -- The parents of missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham issued a new appeal for the whereabouts of their daughter on Saturday, saying despite an arrest in the case, thousands of tips and hours of searches, someone must have critical information yet to be revealed.

"Somebody listening to me today either knows where Hannah is, or knows someone who has that information," the mother, Sue Graham, says in a video released by the city of Charlottesville, home to the university. "We appeal to you to come forward and tell us where Hannah can be found."

"Please, please, please help end this nightmare for all of us," she continues. "Please help us to bring Hannah home."

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (CNN) — The search for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham now includes the use of an aerial drone — the first time, according to authorities, one has been used in the search for a missing person in the state.

The addition of the drone to the seach effort comes more than two weeks after Graham disappeared from an area of Charlottesville known as the Downtown Mall.

The drone has a high-quality camera, and it will “look closer” at objects of interest, said John Coggin, chief engineer of the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership and one of the members of the team operating the drone.

(CNN) -- The arrest of Jesse Matthew -- the suspect in the disappearance of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham -- has resulted in a "significant break" in the 2009 death of another young woman in the same area, police said.

Virginia State Police say there is a "new forensic link" between the Hannah Graham case and the death of Morgan Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student, who went missing after attending a Metallica concert in Charlottesville in October 2009. Her remains were found on a farm months later.

CHARLOTTESVILLVE, Va. (CNN/WTVR) — CNN reported Thursday evening that Jesse Matthew, the man behind bars accused of abducting missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, was working as a cab driver the night murdered Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington disappeared.


Employees of the now-defunct Charlottesville cab company called Access told investigators that Matthew was working the night of Oct. 17, 2009, when Harrington was seen getting into a cab after leaving a Metallica concert at John Paul Jones Arena at U.Va.

The 20-year-old Harrington's body was found several months later on a rural farm in Albemarle County.

...A source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN that the cab Matthew drove in 2009 was seized by authorities from a farm in Albemarle County two weeks ago.

...Matthew's co-workers in 2009 when Harrington disappeared said they informed investigators how they would joke with him about his resembled sketches of a man linked to a 2005 rape in Fairfax — and the man linked to Harrington's disappearance. The other cabbies said Matthew sometimes brush it off, but other times he would get visibly upset.

Police have seized the cab that Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr., the prime suspect in the disappearance of University of Virginia sophomore Hannah Graham, was driving the night murder victim Morgan Harrington vanished in Charlottesville five years ago, reports CBS 6 WTVR in Virginia.

...Meanwhile, Charlottesville police are doing everything they can to find Graham.

"If you have a well on your property, search it. If you have an abandoned structure or abandoned car on your property, search it," Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo told reporters. "We have made the commitment to her parents and we will honor the commitment to find Hannah."

"Every square inch of Albemarle County will be searched this weekend," he said.

Jesse Matthew Jr. had been easy to spot in his white cargo shorts and dreadlocks, sauntering along the still-lively pedestrian mall at 1:06 a.m. on a Saturday.

The restaurant manager also had quickly picked out Hannah Graham, who appears moments later on the opposite side of the mall, hurrying in the other direction.

Then Finazzo noticed the chilling part: Matthew cut through an outdoor seating area, reversed direction and walked in pursuit of Graham.

"He totally follows her," Finazzo said in her first public comments on the video.

Dogs were first to identified the remains buried there.
After they alerted, authorities began digging and found the remains.
Not determined yet if these are of Hannah or of another female victim.

Searchers found human remains on Saturday that could be those of a University of Virginia sophomore who has been missing since Sept. 13, police said.

Further forensic tests are needed to confirm whether the remains are those of Hannah Graham, but Graham's parents were notified of the preliminary findings, Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo told a news conference.

The Albemarle County Police Department also said a volunteer search for Graham that had been planned for Sunday has been canceled so law enforcement can turn their attention to the new evidence.

Longo said a search team from the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office found the remains on an abandoned property in southern Albemarle County — the same region where police found the body of 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington three months after she vanished in 2009.

Last month, after arresting a suspect in Graham's disappearance, police said they found a "forensic link" between the two cases.

Police suggested Saturday that they found the body of missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham.

Human remains were found around noon at an abandoned property in Albemarle County, Va., the county that surrounds Charlottesville, where Graham disappeared 35 days ago, Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said at an evening press conference. The body had not been identified officially as Graham, pending forensic tests.

"Countless hours, thousands of hours have been spent by law enforcement and volunteers in an effort to find Hannah," Longo said. "We think they have proved their worth."

Longo said he made the "difficult" phone call to Graham's parents, John and Susan Graham of Alexandria, Va., "to share with them this preliminary discovery."

Chesterfield County Sheriff's Department members participating in the search made the discovery before noon in southern Albemarle County in central Virginia, according to Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — The Chesterfield Sheriff’s Department sergeant who discovered human remains while searching for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham said he believed God wanted them to find what they found. Sgt. Dale Terry said his five-person team had finished their search mission near Walnut Creek Park around noon Saturday when something came over him to check nearby properties.

“I don’t know how else to explain it,” he said. “Something inside me just told me to continue to look.”

I hope this is Hannah so that her family will have an answer for where she was.
Hopefully she'll have DNA or anything to prove that the man in custody is the right one.

Police hope for closure after human remains found



Police in Virginia cancelled today's scheduled search party for Hannah Graham, one day after the discovery of a body near Charlottesville. There's still no official confirmation, but the family's already been told what police expect.

Police on Sunday blocked off the road next to the property where the remains were found. They continued to scour the area for any additional evidence.

FAIRFAX, Va. –  A man charged with the abduction of a University of Virginia student has been indicted in suburban Washington, D.C., with a 2005 rape, abduction and attempted capital murder.

The indictment against Jesse L. Matthew Jr. was handed up Monday by a Circuit Court grand jury in Fairfax County.

Matthew is being held in Charlottesville, Virginia, on a charged related to the Sept. 13 abduction of Hannah Graham, an 18-year-old from northern Virginia.

Law enforcement officials who have been searching for Graham found human remains over the weekend. The state medical examiner has not made a positive identification.

The remains of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham who vanished last month have been positively identified, police said today.

The remains were found in a field on Oct. 18 about 10 miles from Charlottesville, where the UVA sophomore was last seen.

...Prosecutor Denise Lunsford said new charges against Matthew are being evaluated.

It was 2005, when a woman was attacked while she walked from a store. She survived the attack. DNA from that case has been linked to Matthew. A grand jury indicted the 32-year-old man on three felonies that include attempted capital murder, abduction and sexual penetration with an object.

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- The suspect accused of abducting University of Virginia student Hannah Graham will make a court appearance in Fairfax via video for charges he faces related to a 2005 sexual assault.

... The death penalty is not available on the Fairfax charges because the victim is still alive.

Legal experts say there is one good reason to try Jesse Matthew in Fairfax first. If it's a strong case which secures a conviction, it will "enhance the punishment in Charlottesville," says longtime criminal defense attorney Robert Whitestone.

An attempted murder conviction in Fairfax would increase the likelihood that Matthew might get the death penalty in Charlottesville, if he's charged with a capital offense.

Memorial Erected at UVa in Honor of Hannah Graham

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — When the remains of Hannah Graham were discovered and later identified, University of Virginia students made the decision to create a memorial in honor of their classmate.

The university describes it as a temporary memorial dedicated to her life and her impact on the community.

A chalkboard wall is included at the memorial so students can write notes to their fellow classmate. The centerpiece of the memorial, sitting on top of a fountain, is a chair constructed of skis and donated by Graham’s teammates from the Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Team.

DNA links suspect in Hannah Graham case to Fairfax attack

DNA obtained from beneath a woman’s fingernail links the man accused of abducting University of Virginia student Hannah Graham to a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax, according to court records.

A state forensic analysis conducted last month concludes the chances of the DNA profile matching someone other than Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr. are “1 in greater than 7.2 billion,” the latter figure approximately equivalent to the entire world population.

...The link leaves Matthew’s defense with few options, including either challenging the collection and storage of the DNA evidence or the expertise of the analyst who uncovered the link, said defense attorney Scott Goodman, who is not working the case.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WJLA) - Two dogs with Virginia Task Force One's Urban Search and Rescue Team are in high demand for their unique and advanced skills. Garo is a 10-year-old German Shepherd partnered with K9 Search Specialist Elizabeth Kreitler and Fielder is a 5-year-old Border Collie, a rescue pup- saved from an abusive situation, partnered with K9 Search Specialist Sally Dickinson. The K9s have gone through years of extensive training to become certified in detecting bodies underwater. The VATF1 team tells us that only eight K9s are certified to do this in Virginia. These teams are called to boating accidents as well as drowning and missing person cases.

Hannah Graham abduction suspect pleads not guilty

FAIRFAX, Va. — The suspect in the abduction of a University of Virginia student who was found dead last month pleaded not guilty Friday on an unrelated sexual assault charge stemming from a 2005 crime Friday.

Jesse Matthew Jr., 32, was brought to Fairfax earlier this week so he could be in the courtroom. His last hearing was via video arraignment.

...Police say Matthew grabbed a woman and dragged her into the woods where he sexually assaulted her in Fairfax in 2005. He faces attempted capital murder, abduction and sexual penetration with an object, which are all felonies.

...The judge set a trial date for March 9. The chief judge, Dennis Smith, appointed Circuit Court Judge David Schell to preside over the trial.

UVA Student Hannah Graham Was Victim of Homicide: Police

Hannah Graham, the 18-year-old University of Virginia student whose body was found in October after she'd been missing for more than a month, was the victim of "homicidal violence," authorities said Tuesday.

Albermarle County, Virginia, police gave no other information about the medical examiner's findings, including a specific cause of death, pending a final autopsy.

WASHINGTON — The death of a University of Virginia student who had been missing for a month has been ruled a homicide but the cause remains undetermined, police announced Tuesday.

"The cause of death is homicidal violence of undetermined etiology. The manner of death is homicide," the Albemarle County Police Department said about Hannah Graham.

A final autopsy report has not been issued.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond, Va., determined the cause of death Tuesday.

Warrant details DNA linking Hannah Graham suspect to Morgan Harrington

DNA obtained from a cigar butt and a T-shirt links Jesse Matthew Jr. to the disappearance and death of Morgan Harrington, according to a search warrant.

The “wooden tip” from the butt found in Matthew’s wallet provided the DNA match to DNA on Harrington’s shirt, according to the search warrant filed Oct. 16 and obtained by NBC29, The Daily Progress’ news partner.

State police have said Matthew’s arrest Sept. 24 in the disappearance of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, 18, provided a forensic link to the Harrington case.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- -A preliminary hearing has been postponed for a man charged with abducting a University of Virginia student.

Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr.'s hearing was scheduled for Thursday in Charlottesville. Media outlets report that the hearing has been rescheduled for March 26.

The Charlottesville preliminary hearing for the man accused of abducting Hannah Graham has been moved to March.
 
The request to continue Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr.’s Dec. 4 hearing in Charlottesville General District Court on a charge of abduction with intent to defile comes shortly after a request to move a Dec. 1 hearing on reckless driving charges in Albemarle County General District Court. The county hearing is now set for March 23 and the city hearing for March 26.

In a letter to the court, city Commonwealth’s Attorney Dave Chapman said the request was from both himself and Matthew’s attorney, Jim Camblos, and was a result of the proceedings in Fairfax.

In Fairfax, Matthew’s two-week trial is set to begin March 9.
