Aaron Hernandez Prison Update: Judge Susan Garsh May Meet With Mystery Informant [VIDEO]
By Raimundo Ortiz @AroundtheMundo
on Sep 30, 2015 12:25 PM EDT
Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who was convicted of the first-degree murder of his former friend Odin Lloyd this summer, was denied a new trial by Judge Susan E. Garsh, based on alleged misconduct by a juror.
An anonymous person posted the following regarding the Hernandez trial.
“Even though we weren’t supposed to talk about things with others, I find it humorous now that nobody knows we did talk amongst ourselves and you still believe we didn’t. I hope you pick us again so we can do it again to another thug.”
~Snipped~
Garsh may not be buying this as grounds for a new trial, but Hernandez’s legal team also has a mystery woman who claims to have information about this juror. Garsh is considering a closed-door meeting with this person, according to The Boston Globe.
While all this goes on, Hernandez is still facing double-murder charges in the 2012 drive-by shooting of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston after an altercation in a nightclub.

Aaron Hernandez lawyers ask for search warrant to be tossed
Associated Press By DENISE LAVOIE
BOSTON (AP) — Lawyers for former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez asked a judge Tuesday to invalidate a search warrant that led police to seize a vehicle that prosecutors say Hernandez was driving when he fatally shot two men in 2012.
...During a hearing Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court, a lawyer for Hernandez said the search warrant that led to the seizure of a Toyota 4Runner is invalid because police relied on information from a man who failed a lie detector test.
...It was Carlos Ortiz, a man who was with Hernandez the night Lloyd was killed, who failed a polygraph test, said James Sultan, an attorney for Hernandez.

Reported by Dan Hausle
BOSTON (AP) - A judge has approved a seven-week delay in Aaron Hernandez's double murder trial.
On Tuesday, prosecutors and lawyers for the former New England Patriots player were in court, asking to delay the start of his double murder trial.
~Snipped~
The trial will now begin in January 2016.
During a court hearing Tuesday, the judge closed the courtroom to the public, saying he planned to discuss an undisclosed issue.
The judge says the issue relates to a search warrant being sought by prosecutors to examine physical evidence held by a third party.

Hernandez friend disputes murder charge against him
By Martin Finucane Globe Staff October 19, 2015
Carlos Ortiz, a friend of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, is asking a judge to throw out his murder indictment in the same case in which Hernandez was convicted earlier this year.
In a motion to dismiss the murder charge against him, Ortiz’s defense attorney said the grand jury that indicted Ortiz had not been presented with enough evidence to bring the charge.
“The Commonwealth provided no evidence that Ortiz participated in any way or had any intent to commit or participate in the murder of Odin Lloyd,” defense attorney John J. Connors wrote in the motion.

I've been wondering whatever became of AH's partners in crime. I always thought CO would use this defense. Who knows it could be true that he didn't know in advance that OL would be killed. But, he probably did. I'm still wondering if EW will continue with his "loyalty" to AH. Hmm, will just have to wait and see.

Tipster discusses Aaron Hernandez jury in closed hearing
Associated Press
FALL RIVER, Mass. -- Imprisoned former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez appeared in court Friday for a hearing called to question an anonymous tipster who raised concerns about the integrity of one of the jurors who convicted him of murder.
But it was not immediately clear what happened. The courtroom at Fall River Superior Court was closed by the order of Judge Susan Garsh, and prosecutors and Hernandez's lawyers would not answer questions about the proceedings, citing a gag order imposed by the judge.

It’s becoming the trial that won’t end with former New England Patriots star, Aaron Hernandez, as he appeared in court Friday. This time is was for an anonymous tipster who brought up the possibility that one juror who convicted him of murder may have been tainted by the case. Unlike everything prior to this, which was very public, this hearing was closed to the public leaving the results as a mystery.

Judge OKs intimidation charge vs. Aaron Hernandez
Bob McGovern
Saturday, November 07, 2015
A jury will decide whether former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez tried to silence a major witness who is expected to testify against him in his upcoming Suffolk double-murder trial.
Judge Jeffrey Locke ruled that prosecutors can pursue a witness intimidation charge against Hernandez. He stands accused of shooting one-time friend Alexander Bradley in the face during a trip to Florida in 2013.
Bradley has told prosecutors he was driving when Hernandez gunned down Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a BMW on July 16, 2012.

Trial date set for Aaron Hernandez lawsuit in Florida
By Travis Andersen Globe Staff November 19, 2015
A judge on Wednesday set a February trial date for a lawsuit brought by a onetime friend of Aaron Hernandez who claims the former NFL star and convicted murderer shot him in the eye in Florida in 2013.
The civil trial in the suit filed by Alexander Bradley is slated to begin on Feb. 23 in federal court in Miami and is expected to last two to three days, according to legal filings. Bradley alleges that Hernandez shot him after they had a disagreement at a Miami area nightclub in February 2013.
One point of contention is how the presiding judge will explain to jurors that Hernandez, 26, is not present for the trial.
~Snipped~
In a recent court filing, Hernandez’s lawyers in Florida asked the judge to inform jurors that he “is unable to attend the trial for reasons that the Court has determined are legally sufficient. The fact that Mr. Hernandez is unavailable is not evidence. ... Also, you are not to consider Mr. Hernandez’s absence from trial when you are deciding the case or allow his absence to weigh on your deliberations at all.”
Bradley’s attorneys objected to that phrasing.
~Snipped~
US District Court Judge Kathleen M. Williams has not ruled on the dispute. It is unclear if Bradley will appear at the Florida trial, though court records indicate that jurors will be provided with a deposition of his testimony.
Bradley is currently behind bars in Connecticut, awaiting trial on unrelated gun, burglary, and assault charges.

Both sides seek delay in latest Aaron Hernandez trial
By Travis Andersen Globe Staff December 09, 2015
Prosecutors and defense lawyers are seeking to postpone the upcoming double murder trial of Aaron Hernandez, which is currently slated for Jan. 19 in Suffolk Superior Court.
In a joint motion filed last week, both sides requested that the trial be delayed until an evidentiary matter pending before the state Supreme Judicial Court is resolved.
“Specifically, the parties have been engaged in litigation concerning evidence held in possession of a third party law firm,” the filing said. “The Commonwealth contends that the evidence will be relevant to both the murder[s] and the related witness intimidation indictment.”
~Snipped~
The joint motion did not elaborate on the evidence at issue or the law firm that possesses it. Bradley is suing Hernandez in federal court in Florida for damages that he suffered during the February 2013 shooting. A civil trial is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Miami.
A Suffolk Superior Court judge has not yet ruled on the request to postpone the double murder trial in Boston.

From Super Bowl-finalist to convicted killer: Aaron Hernandez reveals full 'Bloods' gang tattoo during appearance for his double-murder trial
Dec 23, 2015
"...Aaron Hernandez was back in court on Tuesday for a pre-trial appearance in his upcoming double-murder case, and was photographed in a crewneck T-shirt that showed the full extent of the Bloods tattoo he received in prison earlier this year.
The tattoo says 'LIFETIME' up top, which refers to either his lifetime sentence after being found guilty of murdering Odin Lloyd or his lifetime commitment to a gang.
The five-point star below that is a sign of the Bloods gang, which has led many to believe it is indeed gang-related.
What had not been seen before were the words 'LOYALTY' which are written below 'LIFETIME.'

Aaron Hernandez associate’s bid to toss murder charge denied
By Travis Andersen Globe Staff December 29, 2015

A judge on Tuesday denied a defense motion to dismiss a murder indictment against an associate of former NFL star Aaron Hernandez in the slaying of Odin Lloyd.
In a 15-page ruling, Judge E. Susan Garsh wrote that a grand jury “heard sufficient evidence to establish probable cause that” the associate, Carlos Ortiz, “intentionally participated in some meaningful way in Lloyd’s murder.”...
...Ortiz, 29, and another man, Ernest Wallace, 43, both of Bristol, Conn., have also been charged with the murder and will be tried separately.
Prosecutors say the three men picked up Lloyd, who dated the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee, in Dorchester and drove him to an industrial yard in North Attleborough, where Hernandez shot him several times, including two kill shots to the chest as Lloyd writhed in pain on the ground...
...At one point while Ortiz and Wallace were heading to Massachusetts, Ortiz texted Hernandez, “On r way...God Bless,” and Hernandez replied, “Bet hurry up. Tell Fish [Wallace] to drive,” according to Garsh’s ruling...

A second murder trial for ex-Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been postponed.
Hernandez, already serving life in prison after being convicted earlier this year in the murder of Odin Lloyd, was set to stand trail for a 2012 Boston double-homicide on Jan. 19. But on Thursday, Suffolk County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Locke granted a motion to postpone; the Jan. 19 date will now serve as a status hearing.

Aaron Hernandez’s prosecutor accuses defense of being untruthful
Judge E. Susan Garsh last week denied Aaron Hernandez’s request to further look into a juror about whom the unnamed woman made allegations soon after Hernandez’s murder conviction in April for the June 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd.
By Travis Andersen Globe Staff January 13, 2016
A woman who contacted a lawyer for Aaron Hernandez about a possible issue with a juror in Hernandez’s murder trial in Bristol County last year testified during a closed hearing that the defense attorney threatened her and misrepresented her statements, prosecutors said in a recent court filing.
Prosecutor William McCauley, citing the woman’s testimony during the October hearing, wrote in a Dec. 23 filing that the defense lawyer, James Sultan, “threatened to release the witness’s name to the media if the witness did not talk to him.”
McCauley claimed Sultan deliberately included inaccuracies about the 26-year-old woman’s statements in an affidavit.
But Bristol Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh determined in a ruling last week that it was the witness, not Sultan, who had been untruthful.

Jury ‘tipster’ in Hernandez murder trial revealed in court records

FALL RIVER — The tipster who was questioned behind closed doors about alleged juror misconduct in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial is a North Dartmouth woman, according to unsealed court records obtained by The Sun Chronicle.
The tipster, identified as Jessica Mendes, called one of the lawyers for the former New England Patriots star the day after he was convicted last April of first-degree murder, and told the lawyer one of the jurors knew about allegations against Hernandez in a Boston double murder, according to the records released Tuesday.
Evidence about the Boston murders was excluded from the trial concerning the June 2013 killing of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd in the North Attleboro Industrial Park, near Hernandez’s Westwood Estates home.
The juror, identified in court records as Jennifer Rogers, told the court during jury selection she knew nothing about either murder case.

Our QB, Cam Newton, is the funniest person ever to go onto a football field. He has so much fun during a game, and he keeps his fans and the team hyped up till the end. #GO PANTHERS#GO CAM#KEEP POUNDING.

Report: Aaron Hernandez settles civil lawsuit with alleged shooting victim
By Dan Graf
Feb 15, 2016 at 12:53p ET
Aaron Hernandez – already serving a life sentence for his role in a 2013 fatal shooting and facing a trial for two more murders in 2012 – has settled a civil lawsuit in Florida brought by a former friend who claimed that the ex-New England Patriots tight end shot him in the face, according to the Boston Globe.
The Globe reported Monday that lawyers for Alexander Bradley wrote in a Friday court filing in Miami that “the matter has been settled” and that terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
Bradley had alleged that Hernandez shot him in the face in 2013 after the two argued at a nightclub, causing Bradley to lose an eye. According to the Globe, he had been granted immunity in Hernandez’s upcoming trial for 2012 shooting murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
In 2015, Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2013 shooting of former semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Judge rules that jury can see SUV at issue in Aaron Hernandez case

Prosecutors seek cellphone in Hernandez double-murder trial
By Brian MacQuarrie Globe Staff February 27, 2016
A Suffolk Superior Court judge said Friday he expects to rule next week whether prosecutors in the double-murder trial of former New England Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez can examine a cellphone he gave to defense lawyers who represented him in his previous murder trial.
...Sultan said that the law firm cannot be compelled to produce a cellphone given to defense attorneys by a client whose rights include protection against self-incrimination.
Prosecutors asserted that the cellphone should be available to law enforcement, either through a search warrant or subpoena, because the law firm no longer represents Hernandez.

Thanks for the updates, CP.
Hmm, I wonder why the defense wants jurors to see the Toyota? As for the phone, I thought AH had always had Sultan as his attorney for the Lloyd trial. Did he start out with a different legal team? Do any of you remember if he originally had different legal representation?

Alleged murder accomplice: Aaron Hernandez 'shot and killed Odin Lloyd'

..."It was Aaron Hernandez who shot and killed Odin Lloyd," defense attorney David Meier said Tuesday as opening statements began in the trial of Wallace.
...Wallace's trial began Tuesday without the fanfare of Hernandez's but with much the same cast of characters. The judge, E. Susan Garsh, is the same, as is the assistant prosecutor, Patrick Bomberg, who provided the state's opening statement Tuesday.

Murder trial for accused Aaron Hernandez ally Ernest Wallace starts
By Laura Crimaldi and John R. Ellement Globe Staff March 15, 2016
FALL RIVER — Aaron Hernandez had “messed up.”
After a night at a Boston nightclub on June 14, 2013, the then-New England Patriots star took semiprofessional football player Odin L. Lloyd and two women to a condominium he rented in Franklin.
Soon after, Hernandez said taking Lloyd there was a mistake and he turned to two friends, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, for help, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Home of convicted former NFL player Aaron Hernandez for sale
Associated Press
Mar 25, 2016
NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. -- The home of former New England Patriots star tight end and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez is on the market.
The 5,600-square-foot house in North Attleborough -- not far from Gillette Stadium -- is listed for sale at $1.5 million.
Video surveillance from the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home was key in Hernandez's murder trial last year for the 2013 killing of a man who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Transfer of phone brings Hernandez one step closer to his next murder trial
Published 2:02 PM EDT Apr 01, 2016
BOSTON —Aaron Hernandez moved one step closer to his next murder trial this week.
Following a court order, his former lawyers have handed the cellphone over to the ex-Patriots player's current defense attorneys.
A court document indicates that Ropes & Gray LLP delivered the device to Rankin & Sultan LLP on March 30, five days after the judge's order. Attorney Charles Rankin and his team will have a limited amount of time to inspect the phone before prosecutors can apply for a search warrant.
Prosecutors believe the phone could contain evidence in the July 2012 double murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Hernandez is expected to go on trial for that case later this year.

I have been watching for more coverage of Earnest Wallace's trial, but I only find Day 1 coverage from a month ago. Did his trial for Odin Lloyd's murder get halted or somehow delayed? Do any of you know what happened with his trial?
