Pregnant 12 year old missing in Iredell County NC

MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - Authorities across the country are on the look out for two Iredell County girls -- including one who is 9-months pregnant -- who disappeared with their step-father last week.

Janette Hess says her 12-year-old pregnant daughter Keara and 11-year-old Sierra, vanished with their stepfather, Matthew Hess, on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Janette Hess said she hasn't seen her daughters since they went to bed on Wednesday around 9 p.m.

"It's been a nightmare, I've been living in a nightmare," Hess said.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has entered Matthew Hess and the two girls into NCIC. The children are also now listed on the Center for Missing and Exploited Children website. An AMBER alert was not issued because are with a legal guardian and do not meet the criteria of a missing child.

I don't understand the requirements for an Amber Alert in NC. I remember a case a while back, because they didn't know the make of the car, it did not qualify for Amber Alert. In this case, they know the color and make of the car, but because he is their step-dad, they did not meet the requirements.

I'm sorry, but what the hell is a 12 year old doing PREGNANT?? Did I read this incorrectly? Please tell me I did.

She is only 12 years old, and was scheduled for a c-section on thursday, the day they all left. I think the step-father may be the baby dad, but mom says No. All the bloggers on the newspaper article hope they are found soon, but NOT returned to the mom or step-dad.

Not being given to mom or dad sounds like a good idea to be. OMG, if she was scheduled for a C-Section, then she must have been 11 when she got pregnant. I'm sorry but I'm repulsed as well has saddened with the idea of such. Didn't the childs doctor turn this in to child services? This is just horrific. It truly makes me want to cry.

Keara has never indicated that her stepfather was the father of the child. They think the father is a young person Keara's age. The mother told authorities her daughter named a young person as the father.

Keara got pregnant when she, her sister and Matthew Hess lived in Lincoln County. At the time, Matthew and Janette Hess were separated.

This summer, Matthew and Janette Hess started living together again with the girls at a home in Mooresville.

Actually, this is her dad, not step as originally thought. He adopted the girls. He had custody of the girls while he and his wife lived apart. He also had his home set up for the babies arrival.

To me, none of that sounds as though he is anything but a caring dad. It does make me wonder what he is protecting these girls from however. (IF that is what he is doing)

After seeing the mom on the news last night, he may be protecting the girls, and the baby, from their mom.

Thanks for posting this Jag. It is good news that she is safe. I hope that both of these girls get checked on by the State and find out how on earth the 12 yr old got pregnant to begin with. I just can't get it out of my mind, that a 12 yr old IS pregnant.

I hear you FA. It boggles my mind that the Dr. (or her school)she had didn't call it in. I thought it was mandated. I think there is more to this story so am hoping it comes out, just for my curiousity.

I guess I am not super surprised by this.

That is totally sick. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the father of the baby. I think penalties really need to be stiffer for people who sexually abuse children.

I agree with you J4A! Personally I'd stick them all on an island someplace and let them take each other out.

An island would be a good fit for them pervs who rape children. A better fit would be making them skydive without a parachute.
