The father-in-law and brother-in-law of actress and former Miss USA Ali Landry were found dead in Mexico, authorities report.

Juan Manuel Gómez Fernández and Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde, the father and brother of Landry's film director husband Alejandro Monteverde, were found on September 19 near the remote town of Pueblo Viejo, according to a statement from the state's attorney general. Landry's representatives declined to comment for this story.

The report says that Fernández and Monteverde had suffered brain trauma and had been dead for several days before the bodies were found and identified by relatives. Fernández and Monteverde had been reported kidnapped on September 4.

The father-in-law and brother-in-law of former Miss USA Ali Landry were found dead in Veracruz, Mexico, on Saturday, roughly two weeks after they were kidnapped from their home in nearby Tamaulipas.

Juan Manuel Gómez Fernández and his son, Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde, each had sustained traumatic brain injuries and had been dead for several days when they were discovered in a rural area known as El Chachalaco, in the municipality of Pueblo Viejo in northern Veracruz on Saturday, Veracruz state prosecutor Luis Angel Bravo Contreras tells PEOPLE in a written statement.

Fernández and Monteverde were kidnapped on Sept. 4 after leaving their home in Tampico, Tamaulipas, a dangerous area known for gang activity, the Latin Times reports. A report of their disappearance had previously been filed with Mexico's federal special prosecutor for organized crime investigations, SEIDO, in Mexico City.

10 dead in mass shooting at Oregon community college

KGW Staff 5:06 p.m. PDT October 1, 2015

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Ten people were killed during a shooting at Umpqua Community College near Roseburg Thursday morning, officials confirmed. Seven others were wounded.

Officials earlier said 13 people died and 20 were injured but that number was revised just before 5 p.m.

"This number is the best, most accurate information we have at this time," Sheriff John Hanlin said.

...One student, 18-year-old Kortney Moore, told News Review-Today that she was in her writing class in Snyder Hall when a single shot came through a window.

Moore said she saw her teacher get shot in the head, apparently after the gunman came into the classroom. At that point, Moore told the newspaper, the shooter ordered everyone to get on the ground. The shooter then asked people to stand up and state their religion and then started firing, Moore said.

There are many discrepancies about the numbers of deceased/injured.  I just watched a press conference from Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg that said they took in 10 victims.  3 were transferred to a facility in Springfield for services that Mercy doesn't provide (neurosurgery, for one).  2 were treated and released.  4 went into surgery (1 critical, 3 in stable condition), and 1 died in the ER.  Of the 3 transferred to Springfield, 1 is in critical condition, 2 in serious condition.

Just yesterday this video was shared with me.
I thought it rather odd when I heard the shooting was near the town of Roseburg, Oregon.
Odd the coincidence.

"...Texas woman who shot an elderly couple’s pet cat through the head with an arrow may soon lose her veterinary license, the Dodo reports.

Kristen Lindsey, who was a vet at the Washington Animal Clinic before being fired in April, bragged on Facebook about killing the cat, named Tiger, with a bow and arrow. The gruesome post contained a picture of a smiling Lindsey holding up a big orange-and-white tabby by the arrow embedded in the cat’s head.

“My first bow kill, lol,” she had written on the photo. “The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s [sic] head! Vet of the year award … Gladly accepted.”..."

Woman at centre of paedophile ring in Norwich found guilty on 23 charges

"...On some occasions, the adults threw parties and played card games to decide who would abuse which child, Rafferty said. In interviews the victims described how they were abused in front of one another and other adults. Some of the abuse involved children’s toys, including Barbie dolls.

They said the abuse became so routine that the victims came to accept it as normal. One of the male victims said: “There would be parties and they would do some games where the boys were in one room with the men and the girls were in another with the women. The adults would have a card game and the winner would get to choose a boy to start touching their private parts and then hurt them afterwards.”...."

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jul/27/woman-centre-paedophile-ring-norwich-found-guilty-23-charges

".... During the trial it emerged that police had launched an investigation into the conduct of Norfolk county council social workers involved in the case...."

(Some of these were social workers...)

"....When groups of child abusers are convicted the Guardian always specifically tells us when the guilty are of south-Asian origin, even though we can guess this from their names. I am reminded of the time when we were specifically told that a lawyer or police officer was female even though we could tell that from her name too.

But when the guilty are white, this fact apparently does not warrant specific remark (Woman at heart of paedophile ring among three found guilty of rape, 28 July). Here is a norm (of whiteness) remaining unmarked even though it would be a public service to highlight that child sexual abuse is an equal-opportunity activity where the common features are the cruel and predatory attitudes of the adults, and their disregard of the humanity of their victims. Instead your headline writers for this case carefully marked out another non-normative characteristic – that the apparent ringleader was a woman.

Rather than keeping the attention focused on Asian men – or, failing that, on a female central figure – it’s time for the Guardian to say specifically that crimes of this kind can also be committed by ordinary white men (not only priests), and that it’s time to face up to that...."

Family and Volunteers Search for Rebecca Paulk

Updated: Sun 12:15 AM, Oct 04, 2015
By Tom Williams

Whynot, Miss. Rebecca Paulk has been missing since September 7th. The Lauderdale Co. Sheriff's Dept. confirms she was seen after that at two Meridian businesses with a man named John Poisso. They searched Poisso's property, but turned up nothing. Saturday, Paulk's family and a group of volunteers searched for her.

As authorities continue to investigate leads in the disappearance of Rebecca Paulk, the family has reached out to several people to lead a search around the Whynot area where Rebecca’s car was found.

"Three teams are out there right now in this area. A horse is with each one doing a coordinated effort. We have another group that is north of here that is ATV's and by foot," Volunteer Leader Michael Booker says.

Roughly 30 volunteers showed up. Many with horses and ATV's were used to search the area where the family says Rebecca’s cellphone and a piece of her clothing were found.

Family and friends of a 14-year-old who went missing after a visit to church are worried and begging for her safe return.

“Oh my God, honey,” said Sherri Jockell, her mother, through tears. “We are so worried about you.”

Jockell said she filed a missing persons report for her daughter, Olivia Miller, after she was last seen during normal Friday services at Journey Church in La Mesa. Miller usually helped in the youth rooms while her mother went with adults. But after the service, Olivia was nowhere to be found. The family called police.

“Olivia, we are so worried about you,” said Jockell, her mother, through tears.

Police told NBC7 Miller is an at-risk juvenile and they are actively searching for her. They have issued a countywide be-on-the-lookout.

Friends and family handed out fliers around Grossmont Center Saturday, where one associate told family she saw Olivia around 8 p.m. Friday.

A Washington woman has been arrested after allegedly kicking her boyfriend's 17-month-old son to death.

Alicia Joni Goemaat, 20, of Seattle admitted to police that she became so angry following an incident on Sunday that she kicked the young boy, Drue Lehto, in the stomach, knocking him down, according to investigators.

She reportedly told police that she then kicked him again apparently causing fatal abdominal injuries, KIRO TV reported.

(CNN)—A freshman accused of shooting four fellow students at Northern Arizona University has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of felony aggravated assault.

Steven Jones, 18, said "Yes" when a Coconino County judge asked him over a video feed Friday afternoon if he understood the charges. Bail was set at $2 million.

Prosecutors said Jones was involved in a fight with other students around 1:20 a.m. Friday and ran to his car where he picked up a handgun. This is not a case of self-defense, the prosecution said.

CENTRALIA, Wash. - Lewis County authorities are seeking the public's help in locating a 33-year-old Centralia woman who has disappeared under unusual circumstances and may be suffering from postpartum depression, according to her family.

Elizabeth Pham, a mother of three, reportedly left her home on Saturday morning and was last seen later that day getting out of a taxi and then ordering a meal at a restaurant at Exit 59 off Interstate 5, about 20 miles south of Chehalis, said Chief Stacy Brown of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Pham was wearing only socks, purple pajama pants and a pink-and-red top when she was last seen, according to witnesses. She may later have been spotted sitting under a bridge near the Cowlitz River.

Elizabeth’s vehicle was located, unlocked with the keys inside, along southbound I-5 near near Toledo on Saturday evening by the Washington State Patrol.

Investigators believe Pham left her vehicle along I-5 Saturday morning, then walked to GeeCees Truck Stop at Exit 57, where she attempted to get a ride with a truck driver who was heading to Redding, Calif. An employee of GeeCees stopped her from getting into the truck cab and called a taxi for her, Brown said.

Once the taxi arrived, Pham asked the taxi driver to take her to Olympia. The taxi driver first stopped at Pham’s vehicle so she could retrieve personal items from it. The taxi driver described her behavior as "unusual and confused."

~Snipped~

Kimsey said detectives will be reviewing video surveillance from businesses near the areas she was reported to be and will be coordinating a search of the river and riverbanks as well.

"Our detectives will continue to work diligently on this case," he said.

A sister said Pham had a child a few months ago, and that it was completely out of character for her to leave her home and family.

Anyone who sees Pham or knows of her whereabouts is asked to call Detective Jerry Almond of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office at 360-748-9286 or email him at  jeremy.almond@lewiscountywa.gov.

Another woman found slain in Chillicothe, Ohio

Last Updated Oct 14, 2015 5:50 PM EDT

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Police say they've made an arrest in connection with the death of a woman who was found dangling by her sleeve from a chain-link fence in a southern Ohio city plagued by missing and murdered women.

Donnie Cochenour Jr. has been charged with murder in the death of the woman whose body was found Tuesday morning in Chillicothe. Police have not released the name of the woman.

Police in Chillicothe have been investigating a string of suspicious deaths and disappearances of local women. Police say there's no evidence to suggest this latest case is connected, but they say they're not ruling it out, reports CBS affiliate WBNS.

Police: Daycare owner was attacked while protecting kids

HELENA, Mont. -- A Montana daycare owner was punched and hit in the face with a shovel after refusing to hand three young siblings to their father, who was drunk and lacks legal custody, authorities said.

Martha McClure had surgery for her injuries Monday and is still struggling with double vision, according to her sister-in-law, Marlene Heath.

Lake County officials say McClure was caring for Francis Joseph Jackson's three children, all under the age of 4, when he showed up at her Ronan daycare center with an unidentified woman last week.

McClure knew Salish and Kootenai Tribal Child Protective Services had suspended Jackson's parental rights and he was not allowed to have contact with them.

3rd NYC Baby Window Case in 3 Months; Is This the New Crime Trend?
Friday October 16, 2015

"...A 3rd baby has died after being thrown out of an NYC apartment window — the third such instance in as many months — and the child's mother has now been charged with murder.

The 6-month-old girl, Junilah Lawrence, was thrown from a sixth-floor window in the Bronx this week, The Associated Press reported. Witnesses told the news agency that the baby's mother, 27-year-old Tenisha Fearon, allegedly dangled the child outside of the window before tossing her.

"And then that's when the neighbors started screaming, 'No, no, no, no!'" witness Lizette Rodriguez told the AP. "They were yelling at her: 'Don't do it! Think about it.'"..."

Frat "boy" found, hospitalized with injuries.
He was missing from late Friday until Sunday following a party.

Georgia Tech:
James Hubert, 24 yo

"....Monday night, Didi Hubert posted on Facebook, "He was mugged robbed and had the **** beaten out of him. He's in ICU with broken vertebrae, broken ribs, broken scapula, punctured lung, blood on the brain, paralyzed left side (Hopefully temporary). He's in a lot of pain and on morphine resting. He left the formal and took MARTA to get home. To set the record straight he was NOT ON DRUGS, he was NOT DRUNK. He left the formal alone and jumped on MARTA. When he got off the train he was jumped, beaten up, robbed and left for dead. End of story....."

Affidavit: Father beat Baby Chance before death

"....UPDATED:OCT 21 2015 10:22AM CDT
NORTH PORT (FOX 13) - Baby Chance's mother has finally told investigators what happened to the 8-week-old baby.

According to court documents, Kristen Bury says the boy's father, Joseph Walsh, beat him in their North Port home over a month ago, then left him to decompose in his crib.

Walsh was extradited back to Sarasota County this morning, three days after Bury and two weeks after their arrests on child abuse charges. He faces a new charge of first-degree murder and his probable cause affidavit lays out the disturbing details of the young boy's final hours, at least according to Bury.

Photo Affidavit: Father beat Baby Chance before death
Back on the morning of September 15, it says, Bury and Walsh got into an argument. Walsh allegedly struck Chance repeatedly, despite Bury's objections, and threatened to "bash his head into the ground."...."

Body of 9-Week-Old Was Allegedly Left to Decompose in His Crib Until His Mom Complained About the Smell

"....The document said that the couple, who are both alleged long-time drug users with a criminal history, “made the conscious determination not to contact EMS or any other medical assistance.

“Joseph said during his interview that Kristen told him she did not want them to call 911 because she did not want to lose both people she loves in the same day.”

After he died, Chance was placed in his crib, where he was left to decompose until Bury complained about the smell, the affidavit said.

“Joseph wrapped Chance in numerous garbage bags, and then placed the decomposing remains of Chance in the closet of the bedroom,” the court document said.

On September 24— eight days after Chance was killed— Bury and Walsh made two trips to Elliot Court where they dug a shallow grave and then buried their son.

Bury directed detectives to the gravesite, where a fragment of blue surgical gloves was found.

“Kristen disclosed that Joseph was wearing blue ‘hospital [surgical] gloves’ when he was digging the hole, but the gloves were damaged by the shovels and fragments were likely left behind,” the affidavit said....."

"....The Florida Department of Children and Families noted in a statement that the department did not have any prior investigation involving Chance, but it had “multiple past interactions with Joseph Walsh, including the removal of seven children from his custody."

“The murder of Chance Walsh is absolutely heartbreaking ... In the wake of this tragedy, DCF has immediately begun an internal quality assurance review,” Mike Carroll, secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, said in the statement. ...."

Baby Chance Walsh

"....Bury and Joseph Walsh, the parents of Chance Walsh, were wanted by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on felony child neglect charges. Chance was reported missing by his grandparents and was last seen on Sept. 9 with his parents at their home in Florida.

It's unclear what brought them here, but both Walsh and Bury had been in Jasper County for some time before crashing their car in Hardeeville.

"One of the phone calls made to relatives was the child died. Hardeeville PD let us know there was no child in that car,” said Cpt. Charlie Thorpe, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Hardeeville Police said the baby wasn’t at the scene of the crash. Ridgeland Police and federal agents arrested the couple when they were spotted walking on Carters Mill Road, however the baby wasn’t there either.

"They had informed us they had given the child away because they were robbed in Augusta Georgia,” said Cpt. Thorpe.

A witness at the hotel says Bury tried to sell baby clothes to her, and that the baby had died three weeks earlier.

Now, Sarasota County deputies are digging deep to find out what happened to baby Chance. According to an arrest warrant, blood spatter was found on a wall and door inside the couple’s Florida home, along with small amounts of blood on pillows, a comforter and a mattress...."

Rough Student Arrest Puts Spotlight on School Police

The New York Times

By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA, CHRISTINE HAUSER and SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

Developing Stories - Page 8 BBmy4Fj

A deputy’s rough takedown and arrest of an uncooperative 16-year-old girl in a high school classroom adds fuel to a debate over the proliferation and proper role of the police in schools, where officers are often called on to deal with student misbehavior that used to be handled by teachers and administrators.

Encounters like the one Monday near Columbia, S.C., recorded on videos that were soon seen by millions of people, may startle adults who grew up in an era when few officers patrolled school halls, but in fact they are fairly common. Just this month, the actions of officers on campus generated protests in Round Rock, Tex., where an officer put a student in a chokehold to stop a fight, and in Pawtucket, R.I., where an officer slammed a student to the floor. In August, a school district in Kentucky was sued over an officer shackling children ages 8 and 9.

Since the early 1990s, thousands of school systems around the country have put officers in schools, most often armed and in uniform, while many schools have adopted “zero tolerance” policies for misconduct. That has produced sharp increases in arrests, especially for minor offenses, giving criminal records to students who in the past might have faced nothing more serious than after-school detention.

Jared Fogle reveals how he lured kids in secret recordings

New evidence that led investigators to the arrest of former Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle is surfacing, and they're in his own words.

Fogle was indicted on child porn and child sex charges in August. He has accepted a plea deal and is awaiting sentencing.

Fogle was secretly recorded by a woman who had befriended him and then became an FBI informant, reports Vladimir Duthiers of CBS News's digital network, CBSN.

The Daytime talk show "Dr.Phil" obtained the recordings and will air them Thursday. CBS News independently verified the recordings with the FBI.

In the audio recordings, being heard publicly for the first time, Jared Fogle discusses his sexual interest in children.

"I like all ages. That's the thing I mean," Fogle tells a woman in the recording. "It depends...who is ready for what. You know, who's going to give you the glance."

DALLAS -- A mother whose mental health had worried friends and neighbors stands accused of poisoning her young son to death, reports CBS DFW.

Paw Eh, 31, faces an attempted capital murder charge, after a 911 call from a relative prompted first-responders to rush the 4-year-old boy to the hospital in critical condition.

Dallas police say Eh forced her son to ingest poison and tried unsuccessfully to do the same to two of her other children, 7 and 12.

A source told the station that the 7 and 12-year-olds ran to their grandmother's apartment in the same neighborhood when they realized what was going on.

"...The stately home with a red-brick exterior and white window casements has been boarded up since the murders, and red crime scene seal can still be seen on the front door.

The house is currently listed for $3.25million. According to the real estate site Zillow.com, it is worth over $5.5million.

The website states the mansion comes with a fireplace, a jetted tub, an attached parking garage and a security system.

The law in DC requires real estate agents to tell potential buyers if someone died in a home, if asked, but they are not obligated to volunteer the information if they are not asked about the property’s history...."

(CBS NEWS) - A Texas district judge remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after she was ambushed outside her home in West Austin Friday.

Investigators are now trying to single out a suspect, reports CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca.

According to the Austin American-statesman, "Kocurek had attended a football game... When she returned home, a bag of trash or a garbage had been placed in front of the security into her driveway."

When she got out to move it she was "seriously injured by shrapnel and broken glass - rather than a direct hit from a bullet."

Kocurek presided over high-profile political cases involving former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

"I am confident that we will ultimately prevail - that this farce of a prosecution will be revealed for what it is and those responsible will be held accountable," Perry said.

She made headlines last year by suggesting Perry's comments could be considered a threat. Before recusing herself from the case, Kocurek defended the grand jury by saying about Perry that "no one is above the law."

Austin police investigators are looking into past threats made against her.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A manhunt is underway after a Travis County judge was shot outside her home. Austin police say someone opened fire on District Judge Julie Kocurek in the driveway of her Tarrytown home around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

“There were four gunshots — very quick succession — there wasn’t any spacing,” said Dudley McCalla who lives across the street. “Just bang, bang, bang, bang.”

Kocurek had just pulled up to her home in West Austin with some other people when the shooting happened, according to police.

She was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge where she is currently in stable condition. Sources tell KXAN she was admitted into ICU for observation. Sources also say that the judge received injuries from metal pieces and shattered glass to the upper body–left shoulder and face area–but that she was not a directly hit.

Philip Chism, 14, was arraigned Wednesday on a murder charge in the death of Colleen Ritzer, a teacher at Danvers High School near Boston. (Credit: Danvers Police Department; Facebook)

Two years after he allegedly raped and killed his math teacher in a high school bathroom, Philip Chism has been ruled competent to stand trial and potentially face the consequences.

A Massachusetts court made the determination after a mental evaluation of the teenager, said Maria Dres, an official in the Essex County Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

That evaluation is under seal, and no part of it will be released, Dres added.

Perhaps off topic...

I have been following the unrest at Columbia U, Missouri.
Because the footballers are refusing to play, the President has now stepped aside.
This is crap.
Since when are rules meant to be broken and education trashed?
Education is NOT simply book learning...
Youth needs to understand they do NOT make the rules for their elders to follow!
Each player who supports this needs to be placed on suspension from the school.
The Board of Regents and the Chancellor need to stand behind the school president.
In the long run, it is for the benefit of the community and the student.

Call and leave a brief message with the Chancellor's office.

MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) — Police body camera video shows the father of a 6-year-old autistic boy had his hands up and posed no threat as police opened fire, severely wounding the motorist and killing the boy, the man's lawyer said Monday.

"This was not a threatening situation for the police," said Mark Jeansonne (ZHAN'-sawn), the attorney for Chris Few, who remained hospitalized, missing the family's funeral for 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

Jeansonne spoke with The Associated Press after a closed hearing for the two marshals. He said the judge ordered both held on $1 million bond. Derrick Stafford, 32, of Mansura and Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, of Marksville each is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
