I am putting this here.
This is not a crime against an individual but a crime against ALL of humanity...
This is a nightmare with long lasting impact upon all of us.
You may not have safe water, you may have devastating health problems but WE ALL are going to have to pay the BILLIONS of dollars for the clean ups and the law suits...
Worse on humanity than even the Valdez or the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spills...

"....ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Anger was mounting Monday at the federal Environmental Protection Agency over the massive spill of millions of gallons of toxic sludge from a Colorado gold mine that has already fouled three major waterways and may be three times bigger than originally reported.

An 80-mile length of mustard-colored water -- laden with arsenic, lead, copper, aluminum and cadmium -- is working its way south toward New Mexico and Utah, following Wednesday's accidental release from the Gold King Mine, near Durango, when an EPA cleanup crew destabilized a dam of loose rock lodged in the mine. The crew was supposed to pump out and decontaminate the sludge, but instead released it into tiny Cement Creek. From there, it flowed into the Animas River and made its way into larger tributaries, including the San Juan and Colorado rivers...."

"...."The EPA was right in the middle of the disaster and we intend to make sure the Navajo Nation recovers every dollar it spends cleaning up this mess and every dollar it loses as a result of injuries to our precious Navajo natural resources," Begaye said. "I have instructed Navajo Nation Department of Justice to take immediate action against the EPA to the fullest extent of the law to protect Navajo families and resources."...."

"....There have been claims the amount of radiation released in the Churchrock incident exceeded Three Mile Island....."

COLD CASE:
Tonya Hughes, Oklahoma

"....Cold Case Investigation
Solving a Decades-Old Mystery

08/03/15

Tonya Hughes was just shy of her 21st birthday on a spring day in 1990 when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Oklahoma City. She died five days later, but the investigation into her suspicious death led to a mystery—and a murder—that took decades to fully unravel.

That’s because Tonya Hughes was not who anyone thought she was—and neither was her husband, Clarence Hughes, who now sits on death row in a Florida prison.

“The FBI has been chipping away at this one,” said Special Agent Scott Lobb, who began working the cold case investigation in 2013 out of the Bureau’s Oklahoma City Division. “There were a lot of peculiar twists to this case.”

Tonya left behind a child, Michael Hughes. Her husband claimed he was Michael’s biological father, but shortly after Tonya died, Clarence gave Michael to Oklahoma state welfare officials and promptly disappeared. “He knew the truth would come out,” Lobb said, “and so he fled.”

The truth—discovered during the hit-and-run investigation—was that Clarence Hughes was actually Franklin Delano Floyd, a federal fugitive from Georgia wanted since 1973...."

Mother charged after ex-boyfriend beats child to death

Posted: Jun 25, 2015 5:58 PM CDT
Updated: Jul 09, 2015 5:58 PM CDT

Camden, TB
"....Authorities in Benton County say prosecuting a domestic violence victim could save her children's lives.

Tiffany Hilliard is not charged with having a hand in the death of her 8-month-old son, but she is charged with setting up the circumstances that allowed the crime to take place.

District Attorney Matt Stowe said Hilliard was beaten by her boyfriend, Westlee Yates. Three days later, she left her sick child with him.

Authorities said 20 minutes after she was gone, Yates admitted he beat the child to death in their rural Benton County trailer.

"We are going to try to make her accountable in her role," Stowe said.

Yates has already pleaded guilty to murder. He is serving 48 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hilliard faces much lesser charges and less jail time.

Investigators said Hilliard had a long history of violence with her boyfriend. She knew he had beaten her and her children on multiple occasions.

Stowe believes her three surviving children and the child she is currently pregnant with are in danger until she changes her ways.

"If you know a person is dangerous, if you know an animal is dangerous, you can't just leave an 8-month-old infant in their care. You would be held accountable," Stowe said.

While he admitted it is controversial to arrest a domestic violence victim, Stowe said there are some unusual circumstances that guided him to use Hailey's Law. The law allows prosecutors to charge people who weren't on the scene of a crime.

Hilliard's new boyfriend is Brian Reynolds, a violent sex offender. Authorities found her with him at his new address on the sex offender registry. ...."

Princess Diana: Greased Brakes

"....Video transcript provided by Newsy.com
Following the news that Princess Diana had been in a car crash, Queen Elizabeth gave what the author of a new royals biography called an "astonishing remark."
A source for the new book says the Queen — not yet knowing the severity of the accident that killed her daughter-in-law — said, "Someone must have greased the brakes." (Video via ITN)
Ingrid Seward is the author of "The Queen’s Speech: An Intimate Portrait of the Queen in Her Own Words," scheduled to be published at the end of the month.
In excerpts printed by the Daily Mail, Seward wrote the greased brakes remark "reveals something of the extraordinary and complex relationship between her and Diana."...."

Attorney: Teen's Facebook threat charges likely won't stick

Updated: Fri 9:51 AM, Aug 14, 2015

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A 15-year-old boy was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct after posting comments to Facebook. In the comments, the boy said he had feelings of wanting to kill someone.

A high school student found the post and alerted a family member. The family tells WVLT the girl was "very concerned" about what her classmate was saying. They called police.

Other parents say they're happy Morristown Police jumped on the tip.

"Well I hate to hear it, be we gotta take all threats seriously for the protection of our students that go here to the school and the teachers," parent Tammy Cox says.

The boy faces charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.

Knoxville lawyer T. Scott Jones doesn't think these charges will stick, based on how the law defines harassment.

But he says when threats get specific on social media they're not always protected by freedom of speech.

Hundreds of tonnes of highly poisonous cyanide were being stored at the warehouse devastated by two giant explosions in the Chinese port city of Tianjin which killed 112, a senior military officer said Sunday.

The comments by Shi Luze, chief of the general staff of the Beijing military region, were the first official confirmation of the presence of the chemical at the hazardous goods storage facility at the centre of the massive blasts.

The disaster has raised fears of toxic contamination. Residents and victims' families hit out at authorities for what they said was an information blackout, as China suspended or shut down dozens of websites for spreading "rumours".

Nearly 100 people remain missing, including 85 firefighters, though officials cautioned that some of them could be among the 88 corpses so far unidentified.

More than 700 people have been hospitalised as a result of Wednesday's blasts -- which triggered a huge fireball and a blaze that emergency workers have struggled to put out since then, with fresh explosions on Saturday.

Aug 18 (Reuters) - Former Subway sandwich chain pitchman Jared Fogle is expected to plead guilty to charges of possessing child pornography, Indianapolis TV station Fox59 reported on Tuesday.

Fogle will accept a plea deal, the station reported, citing unidentified sources. The U.S. Attorney's Office will hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the deal and charges against Fogle, the station said.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Indianapolis declined to comment and Fogle's attorney could not immediately be reached. A spokeswoman for the FBI in Indianapolis also declined to comment.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no publicly available case naming Fogle as a defendant with the U.S. District Court for Southern Indiana. It is possible that a case could be sealed and not available publicly on electronic court records.

The teenage daughter of a wealthy German businessman was killed during a botched kidnapping attempt, police said on Tuesday after a four-day intense search that gripped the nation.

Police said they found the body of the 17-year-old school girl, named only as Anneli-Marie R., in an abandoned farmhouse near Dresden. The search made headline TV news, even pushing the eurozone crisis off the front pages of newspapers.

"All our hopes and prayers have come to nothing," regional police chief Dieter Kroll told a nationally televised news conference. He added that two suspects had been detained on suspicion of murder.

“Based on the way her that her body was discovered, it appears that it was placed at that location and it doesn’t appear to be where she was deceased. She happened to have been put there by somebody.  That’s why we’re looking for information, if anyone saw anything in the area,” said Carla Kmiotek with Coral Springs Police.

Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body, but are calling the incident “suspicious in nature.”

Investigators have identified her as 38-year-old Magdalena Weich.

Police say her live-in boyfriend, Enrique Macotela, reported her missing on Wednesday.

Magdalena Weich, 38, of Coral Springs, was reported missing late Wednesday by her boyfriend, authorities said

Police are asking the public to come forward with information about people seen walking in the vicinity of the discovery or vehicles parked or broken down in the area anytime between Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Kmiotek said.

When Enrique Macotela reported Weich was missing, he told police she never returned home Tuesday after walking to Barnes & Noble, 2790 N. University Drive, to study, authorities said.

While he was playing tennis with friends, Weich texted Macotela to let him know she would be studying at the bookstore, according to a police incident report. But she didn't return home and had left her purse, keys and cellphone at home.

Bryce Williams/ Vester Flanagan, suspect:

Virginia shooting suspect in hospital after journalists killed during broadcast

"....A Twitter account purporting to be run by the gunman posted a video of the shooting, as well as one of the lead-up to the attack. Both were posted as one file on Facebook.

The videos, posted in the name of Bryce Williams, the name journalist Vester Lee Flanagan reported under for WDBJ7, show an approach to Parker, Gardner and Ward on the deck where they were filming an interview.

Suspected gunman Vester Lee Flanagan. Photograph: Facebook
The three continue reporting live and do not acknowledge the approaching person. The person filming then angles alongside the cameraman and aims a handgun directly at Parker, who does not appear to notice.

A second video shows the gunman shooting at Parker as she runs away from the shots.

The video then cuts. The Twitter account has now been suspended. Other tweets stated: “I filmed the shooting see Facebook,” “Adam went to [human resources] on me after working with me one time!!!” and “Alison made racist comments. EEOC report filed. They hired her after that???”

Jeffrey Marks, WDBJ’s president and general manager, said Flanagan was a journalist who had been fired from the station, and had had to be escorted out by police afterwards.

Marks described him as “an unhappy man” and “difficult to work with,” always “looking out for people to say things he could take offense to”.

“Eventually after many incidents of his anger ... we dismissed him. He did not take that well,” Marks explained.

Marks said Williams alleged that other employees made racially tinged comments to him, but said his complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claim was dismissed and none of his allegations could be corroborated.

“We think they were fabricated,” Marks said...."

Bryce WilliamsVester Flanagan, shooter of the news crew. Virginia

Inside Vester Lee Flanagan's life

"...Vester Lee Flanagan, 41, who went by the professional name Bryce Williams, was ordered by his bosses at local TV station WDBJ to seek help for his frequent problems with coworkers, according to a July 30, 2012 company memo obtained by The Guardian.

"You are required to contact Health Advocate, the employee assistance program," the memo, from then-station director Dan Dennison, said. Williams was given four days to make the call. "This is a mandatory referral requiring your compliance. Failure to comply will result in termination of employment."

It's unclear if Williams did indeed follow up with Health Advocate, but he wasn't terminated from WDBJ until February 2013. Yet even after his firing, he continued living in Roanoke, Va., something that had an unsettling affect on former co-workers.s/Vester Flanagan, shooter of the news crew..."

AP sues over FBI ploy involving fake news story
Published August 27, 2015Associated Press

"..."The FBI both misappropriated the trusted name of The Associated Press and created a situation where our credibility could have been undermined on a large scale," AP General Counsel Karen Kaiser said in a 2014 letter to then-Attorney General Eric Holder.

"It is improper and inconsistent with a free press for government personnel to masquerade as The Associated Press or any other news organization," Kaiser wrote. "The FBI may have intended this false story as a trap for only one person. However, the individual could easily have reposted this story to social networks, distributing to thousands of people, under our name, what was essentially a piece of government disinformation."

In a November opinion piece in the New York Times, FBI Director James Comey revealed that an undercover FBI agent had also impersonated an AP reporter, asking the suspect if he would be willing to review a draft article about the bomb threats.

Comey described the tactic as "proper and appropriate" under Justice Department guidelines in place at the time. He said such a ruse would likely require higher-level approvals now than it did in 2007, but that it would still be lawful "and, in a rare case, appropriate." ..."

WANT TO STOP GUN MURDER, DEMOCRATS? GIVE UP YOUR GUNS

"....Hillary Clinton joined in the fun, too, telling reporters, “We have got to do something about gun violence in America, and I will take it on.” Again, she offered no specifics.

If Democrats and their supporters truly want to fight gun crime, and they truly believe that less guns directly correlates to less gun homicide, there is a simple way they could do so: they could give up their guns. Bryce Williams was a leftist who was chastised by management for wearing a Barack Obama sticker during on-air election coverage.

But he’s just one example of gun crime in the Democrat-supporting world. From 2009-2010, according to the Centers for Disease Control, 26,632 firearm-related homicides took place in the United States. The CDC investigated the number of firearm-related homicides in the 50 most populous U.S. cities; all but six of those cities were located in counties which would go on to vote for Barack Obama in 2012. In those cities, 13,014 firearm-related homicides took place.

In other words, just by confiscating all the guns from all the people in the most populous Democratic cities–by following the Democratic theory that less guns mean less gun crimes–the American gun murder rate would drop by half. And that doesn’t even count all murders from all Democrat-supporting areas in the country.

Obviously, that wouldn’t work–virtually all the major Democratic cities already have gun control, and the Democratic-area murder spree continues. But the media will never discuss where most murders actually occur, or who actually commits them. That would be inconvenient to the Democratic narrative that gun crime does not center in any location–that a gun is dangerous in and of itself, no matter who wields it. ...."

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/08/27/want-to-stop-gun-murder-democrats-give-up-your-guns/

(Obama was already with press statements BEFORE the suspect had been apprehended. What did he know in advance of the public's knowledge? And while death by homicide may be high in this country, Obama skipped the beheadings Saudi Arabia has done this year, and he omitted all the stabbing deaths in England, etc..)

SUPREME COURT MISTAKE THAT OPENED THE DOOR TO BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP

".....Children of foreign parents are only entitled to citizenship if Congress chooses to grant citizenship more freely than the Constitution requires, which Congress rightly does because many foreign-born immigrants are great assets to this nation.

As we have discussed in our previous reports, the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause says that citizenship is guaranteed to anyone who is born in the United States “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” In 1873, the Supreme Court weighed in on the meaning of this phrase, and then expanded upon its explication in 1884, to hold that this clause applies to those who have complete and undivided allegiance to the United States because they do not owe allegiance to a foreign nation. Congress can grant citizenship more broadly than that, but the Constitution does not require it....

"As Eastman concluded:

The notion that the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment, when seeking to guarantee the right of citizenship to former slaves, also sought to guarantee citizenship to the children of enemies of the United States who were in its territory illegally is simply too absurd to be a credible interpretation of the Citizenship Clause...."

Iowa couple sentenced after kidnapping and torturing woman, forcing her to work as prostitute in RV

"....The couple's 20-year-old victim was rescued in January after a truck driver spotted her malnourished face in the RV's window at a Virginia truck stop and called 911.

By then she had spent 18 days enduring the horrific abuse that included having nails driven into her feet, bleach poured into her wounds and heated keys and scissors burned into her skin. The woman was further treated like an animal while being dragged by a leash down a gravel path, according to court documents.

In order to discourage her from trying to escape, Hodza slit the throat of a dog in the RV and warned her that if she didn't obey them her own organs would be slowly cut out, one by one...."

"First I'm gonna pray for you," Zendaya writes on Twitter, tagging some trolls who had made offensive comments about her parents. 'While you're so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world. They have chosen to spend their entire life, not worried about trivial things such as looks and insulting people's parents on Twitter, but instead became educators who have dedicated their lives to teaching, cultivating and filling young shallow minds. (One of the most important yet underpaid jobs we have). Please, log out, go to school, hug a teacher and read a textbook…and while you're at it, go look in the mirror and know that you too are beautiful, because such hateful things only stem from internal struggles. Bless you."

HCSO:  Suspect arrested, charged in shooting death of Sherriff's deputy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a tragic, senseless murder of our law enforcement - a Harris County (Houston), TX sheriff's deputy.
  Killed from behind execution style.   When the deputy was down, this killer continued to shoot him.
I have been following this story as it unfolded.  In a press conference yesterday, Devon Anderson, Harris County District Attorney said this case  (Shannon Miles) will be prosecuted as Capital Murder.  I do hope this scumbag is found guilty and sentenced to death.  He deserves nothing less.
The Sheriff of Harris County, TX stated in a Press Conference that it appears Deputy Goforth was murdered for no reason other than he wore a law enforcement uniform!
Anti-law enforcement throughout the United States needs to stop.   It seems criminals are getting out of control and it is disgusting that so many support the criminal and not law enforcement.
There may be a few bad apples in the crate as there are in any profession but all of the law enforcement officers I know are exceptional.   I respect and support law enforcement!
Deputy Darren Goforth leaves behind a wife and 2 children.  His wife is a school teacher.  Some news media have reported that the children are ages 12 and 5. Special prayers to the family of Deputy Goforth!
Murder trial sends message to doctors: 'Don't get reckless,' medical expert says
A landmark California murder trial underway in Los Angeles Superior Court this week sends an unflinching warning to all doctors..
Opening statements are expected to start as early as Monday in the case of Dr. Hsiu-Ying “Lisa” Tseng. She’s the first California doctor ever charged with murdering patients who overdosed merely for prescribing them medication, said Deputy Dist. Atty. John Niedermann, a prosecutor on the case.
“[It’s] a big deal,” said Steve Smith, who teaches health law at California Western School of Law. The case, he said, tells doctors: “Don’t get reckless.”
While the district attorney's office casts the prosecution as a necessary step in curbing the prescription drug overdose epidemic, Smith and other medical and legal experts worry that if Tseng is convicted it will trigger “a chilling effect,” in which good doctors will be scared to prescribe painkillers to patients, who will suffer unnecessarily.
Doctors have long faced the threats of malpractice lawsuits and losing their medical licenses, but it’s still relatively rare for physicians to be held criminally accountable for patient deaths. A handful of doctors across the country have faced murder charges for prescribing painkillers that killed patients, including a Florida doctor currently on trial in a first-degree murder case.
"...Tseng is charged with second-degree murder for the deaths of Vu Nguyen, 28, of Lake Forest; Steven Ogle, 25, of Palm Desert; and Joey Rovero, 21, an Arizona State University student, who prosecutors say traveled more than 300 miles with friends from Tempe, Ariz., to get prescriptions from Tseng. She is also charged with several felony counts of prescribing drugs to people with no legitimate need for the medications and a count of fraudulent prescribing.
A 2010 Times investigation found that at least eight of her patients died of overdoses from the same type of drug she prescribed to them....."
"....Rovero said she remembers the detective’s voice on the phone describing Joey’s room littered with near-empty vials of his medicine. The name of the doctor on the bottles, she said, was Tseng.
“A doctor that just throws pills out there?” Rovero said. “It’s horrifying.”
Rovero, who launched the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse after her son’s death, said she hopes Tseng is convicted, sending a message to every doctor’s office across the country: “Don’t think you’re going to get away with it.” ...."
Missouri Executes Man For Raping And Killing 15-Year-Old Girl
Roderick Nunley was executed by lethal injection in Missouri Tuesday night. It was the state’s sixth execution this year, and the nation’s 20th.
"....The men then drove the teenager to Nunley’s mother’s house, where they forced her to crawl down the stairs into the basement. After raping and sodomizing her, they put her in the trunk of the car and repeatedly stabbed her with a steak and butcher knife. They abandoned the car in another neighborhood, leaving Harrison to bleed to death.
Taylor was executed in February 2014 after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene.
Afterward, Attorney General Chris Koster said the length of time it took to carry out his sentence was a “textbook example showing why society is so frustrated with a system that has become too cumbersome.”
The Department of Public Safety said the execution took 11 minutes. Missouri has carried out six executions so far this year — second only to Texas, which has carried out 10...."
A media frenzy is engulfing India, over a sensational celebrity murder case.
The victim is a young woman whose body was found, strangled and badly burned, in a forested area near Mumbai in 2012. Police now believe the victim is socialite Sheena Bora.
Last week, police made three arrests, including Indrani Mukherjea, one of her ex-husbands and their driver. Mukherjea is the wife of media mogul Peter Mukherjea. He’s the former CEO of a Fox-owned TV network, Star India, and has appeared regularly in lists of the most powerful people in India.
Bora was known to the Mukherjea family as Mukherjea's younger sister, but police have now found that she is actually her daughter.
Since the arrest, Bora's brother, Mikhail, has come forward and said his mother, Mukherjea, had tried to poison him at the same time she allegedly killed her daughter. It has since emerged that Bora was in a relationship with Peter Mukherjea’s son from his first marriage.
Sheena Bora murder: Whodunnit that's gripped urban India
By  Vasudevan Sridharan
September 1, 2015 12:29 BST
Developing Stories - Page 7 Indrani-mukerjea-sheena-bora-murder-case
Indrani Mukerjea, former media executive, has been accused of killing her own daughter, Sheena Bora(Indrani Mukerjea's Facebook page)
So, how does one describe a murder mystery that has gripped urban India and its media? Simply speaking, Indrani Mukerjea, the second wife of a high-profile third husband, is accused of killing Sheena Bora, her daughter who was initially described as her sister, three years ago. No motive has been conclusively cited.
The alleged murder itself was uncovered by Mumbai police only days ago and now, every layer in the complex and multi-dimensional murder case is being painstakingly peeled by India's usually-theatrical media outlets, not to mention avid followers of the news on Facebook. The mystery has all the right elements – high society, rich former media executive, sex and family feud, to name a few.
Indrani is portrayed as a small-town girl, hailing from distant Guwahati in northeastern Assam, and a "social climber" who may have used every charm she possessed. But facts are hard to come by. Not even her age, claimed as 43, is corroborated. Her relationships with the victim, and her association with the three husbands, or her strained ties with her parents -- all are mostly speculative.
General info on missing persons...
"....It’s a grim question, but an important one: How many unidentified bodies are in the United States?
The answer is at least 10,000. However, there’s no federal requirement that local authorities report these Jane and John Does to a centralized system. That means it can be difficult for the families of missing people to connect the dots between the missing and the dead.
This disconnect is the subject of a project called “Left for Dead” from Reveal, The Center for Investigative Reporting, and PRX.
OPB’s All Things Considered Host Kate Davidson spoke with investigative reporter G.W. Schultz about the project.
The following is an edited transcript.  ...."
Lies and scaremongering and propaganda
"....Um, I think the 800,000 figure might actually mean the total number of all missing persons: that is, to say, children, teens and adults. According to this article from a year ago, there are 750,000 MP cases added to the NCIC in an average year, with 627,911 in 2013.
A large proportion of those are abducted by non-family members under suspicious or unknown circumstances.
That sentence is designed to sound as scary as possible and doesn’t stand up to close scrutiny. How much is “a large proportion” exactly? Give some numbers here. If a child is missing under unknown circumstances, how can you say they were abducted by a non-family member?
I’ve been immersed in this for well over ten years and well I know that almost all missing child cases are resolved within hours and abductions by strangers are very rare. And the missing child cases that go longer than a day are usually either runaways, or kids taken by non-custodial family members. Most Amber Alerts are issued for children who were taken by a relative, usually a parent, and in most of those cases the child is recovered unharmed....."
Interesting....
Two weeks after Fox Lake police lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz died of a gunshot wound in a field in far western Lake County, the investigation into his death continues to move at a glacial pace, authorities still keeping confidential many basic details of how the officer died.
On Tuesday, for the first time, officials with the task force investigating the officer’s death conceded they are considering both homicide and suicide. While Gliniewicz said on his radio that he had been pursuing three individuals just prior to his death, police have revealed no leads or even a description of who those individuals might have been.
For every fact confirmed by the task force, an equal number of rumors and bizarre theories have been floated in coffee shops and taverns in the northern suburbs. But Covelli bristled at suggestions by some, that a potential Gliniewicz suicide might have been swept under the rug.
“There is absolutely, positively, no coverup,” Covelli said. And he insisted that the investigation is as robust as it was in the beginning.
~Snipped~
Police insist they are still awaiting forensic results, including gunshot residue, ballistics, and DNA. A frustrated Lake County coroner, Thomas Rudd, says he is still awaiting those reports, before he can make a final determination on how Gliniewicz died.
Renowned forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee, whose cases included the JonBenet Ramsey and O.J. Simpson murder investigations, told NBC5 many of those results should have been returned rapidly.
Gunshot residue tests, he said, “should be finished in a day, or a maximum of two days.” The officer’s clothing, which officials reportedly are testing for residue, would first be checked in a visual examination, then with chemical tests. Sometimes, he noted, bullets are actually fired into the clothing if the weapon in question can be identified.
Elsewhere in the case, on Tuesday morning, a retired Chicago police officer accused of making threats against the Lake County coroner and members of the task force, was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
Joseph Battaglia allegedly threatened physical harm to certain officials, if they didn’t certify the Gliniewicz case as a suicide. But in court, Battaglia’s lawyer said his client had no inside knowledge of the case, and that there is no evidence that he intended to make good on any such threats.
“If the allegations are true, it was a very stupid and reckless act,” attorney Myron Goldstin said. “He is certainly not a risk to harm anyone.”
Two weeks after Fox Lake police lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz died of a gunshot wound in a field in far western Lake County, the investigation into his death continues to move at a glacial pace – but the drawn-out process is one that the fallen officer’s family is fully supporting.
But what the family is firmly standing against is the swirling rumors that Gliniewicz may have taken his own life, according to a new interview with one of his four sons.
Donald "D.J." Gliniewicz told the Daily Herald his father has “never once had a single suicidal thought” and that his family “isn’t happy” at the thought that anyone would question the process of the investigation, or allude that officers are trying to cover up any information.
“I didn't just lose a father, I didn't just lose a trainer, a mentor, a coach,” he wrote in a Monday afternoon Facebook post. “I lost my best friend, the person I could talk to about anything and everything. It is starting to kind of set in now.”
Probe of Illinois officer's death marked by tension between cops, coroner (Video)
Published September 16, 2015  ·  FoxNews.com
The investigation into the death of an Illinois police officer earlier this month has been beset by clashes between the task force looking into the case and the local coroner, reports say.
Late Tuesday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that investigators met with the pathologist who performed the autopsy on Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz last week without Lake County coroner Dr. Thomas Rudd's knowledge. The pathologist, identified as Manny Montez, confirmed to the paper that the meeting took place.
"They called me and told me to be present, so I showed up,” Montez said. “We went over my findings. They had copies of my sketches because I haven’t finalized my [autopsy] report yet."
Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was shot and died Sept. 1.
Illinois police are looking into the possibility that a Fox Lake officer's death was a suicide, according to reports.
Fox Lake Lt. Charles (Joe) Gliniewicz, 52, was found mortally wounded after reporting he was chasing down three suspects with vague descriptions on Sept. 1. His death sparked a massive manhunt with 400 officers, but no arrests have been made and the suspects have not been found.
Authorities said they are investigating the case as a homicide. The Lake County Coroner, Thomas Rudd, said he couldn't say whether it was a suicide, an accident or a homicide without further evidence.
"Every theory is being looked at," Lake County Sheriff's detective Chris Covelli told the Chicago Tribune. "Nothing has been eliminated at this point."
(Video)
Unnamed sources close to the investigation said evidence is mounting that the fatal shot was self-inflicted, according to the Chicago Tribune and Fox News.
Gliniewicz was shot twice, with one bullet hitting his Kevlar vest and the other bullet piercing his chest from a downward trajectory, sources told Fox News. Shell casings were found about 100 feet apart from each other near the body, which was found face-down.
Residents and fellow police officers gather at the Fox Lake, Illinois Police Department on September 2, 2015, to remember the life of Lt. Joe Gliniewicz. Gliniewicz was shot and killed on Tuesday while chasing three suspects
(CNN) - An Illinois woman sent 100 officers scrambling overnight after saying she saw two men who fit the description of the cop killers police have been looking for.
But after hours of searching, police said, they discovered she made the whole story up.
"It's very disappointing because our resources could have been used somewhere else," Lake County Sheriff's Detective Christopher Covelli said early Thursday morning.
Law enforcement officers have been searching nonstop for three men suspected of killing Fox Lake police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz on Tuesday. The suspects have been described only as two white men and one black man.
On Wednesday night, Kristin B. Kiefer, 30, called police and said she was driving and pulled over near a cornfield because she was having car trouble, Covelli said.
Kiefer told officers a white man and a black man tried to get in her car, Covelli said. She said when she picked up her phone to call police, the two men fled into the cornfield.
More than 100 federal, state and local law enforcement officers descended on the area overnight. Eleven K9 officers and three aircraft also responded to the tip.
But Kiefer later admitted she fabricated the story because she was looking for attention, Covelli said.
A Mom Has Been Charged With Forcing Surgeries on Her Healthy Daughter for Years
Malinda Lugin allegedly started the abuse when she was still pregnant.
A New Jersey mom has been accused of forcing her 7-year-old daughter to undergo unnecessary surgeries and treatments, as early as when the mother was still pregnant. The Star-Ledger reports that a grand jury indicted Malinda Lugin, 36, on charges that she endangered the welfare of her child.
On Tuesday, the grand jury found that Lugin caused her daughter, known only in court documents as L.L., to get tests, surgeries, and even a feeding tube that only dispensed a formula called Elecare. According to the Associated Press, police figured out that all L.L. had was a mild allergy to strawberries.
Authorities claim Lugin has "Munchausen syndrome by proxy," a mental illness in which a parent either invents fake symptoms or creates them to make it look like their child is sick. It's unclear what causes the condition, but sufferers are usually moms with small children who know a lot about medicine. People with the disorder often thrive on attention and the idea that they're getting away with the deception.
NEWTON  — A judge will leave bail at $50,000 — for now — for a woman accused of causing a baby to receive "unnecessary or harmful" medical care.
Malinda A. Lugin was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, specifically with conduct "sometimes referred to as Munchausen-by-proxy," the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release. She was arraigned Friday in Superior Court in Sussex County.
~Snipped~
The "unnecessary or harmful" medical care occurred from November 2007, when the child was a newborn, through last year, Pappas said. It involved testing and a feeding tube with baby formula, Pappas said, but she didn't provide more details. Court officials were unable to immediately retrieve a criminal complaint about the case late Friday.
Pappas did not disclose the relationship between Lugin and the child, but said visitation rights will be pursuant to an order issued in family court, which, Critchley said, calls for visits to be supervised by the state's Department of Children and Family Services.
Lugin's next scheduled appearance in court will be July 13.
LAKEWOOD, Colo. –The death of a 2-year-old who was initially reported as missing on Monday afternoon was being investigated by Lakewood Police.
...Just before noon on Monday, Lakewood police received a call of the missing boy. The caller reported that the toddler had been missing for about 10 minutes, according to Lakewood authorities.
Police arrived on scene and conducted a search of the apartment. A few minutes into the search the 2-year-old was found inside the apartment injured and unconscious, with a cord wrapped around his neck.
Police spokesman Steve Davis said the child was in or on top of some sort of "tote.”
Police check on link between missing Rockford boy, Garfield Park Lagoon case
Investigators trying to identify the toddler whose remains were found in the Garfield Park Lagoon over Labor Day weekend are looking closely at the case of a 2-year-old boy reported missing this month in Rockford, Chicago police said Tuesday.
Kyrian Knox was first reported missing Thursday, but Rockford police said it was not clear when the boy was last seen. A statement issued by Rockford said the boy was believed to be in the care of a family friend before he was reported missing.
~Snipped~
Rockford detectives contacted Chicago police over the weekend to report a possible link, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. Chicago detectives traveled to Rockford to collect a DNA sample from a family member of the boy, which was sent for testing at the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Va., Guglielmi said.
~Snipped~
Investigators have looked into two other missing cases out of Gary and Searcy, Ark., but don't feel either connection is strong. "We're not ruling it out, but we do have some reason to believe the (Garfield Park) victim to be different," Guglielmi said.
K-9 tracks gunshot residue a quarter-mile from Gliniewicz shooting scene
Lee Files
In the hours after Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was killed three weeks ago, a K-9 unit trained specifically to track gunshot residue followed a scent for more than a quarter-mile away from the veteran officer's gun, authorities say.
While the dog's tracking lends credence to the belief Gliniewicz was the victim of a homicide, it doesn't prove it, said George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
~Snipped~
According to Filenko, the K-9 picked up the scent seemingly from Gliniewicz's .40-caliber weapon and followed it to the southeast before the dog's handler had to stop due to fatigue and dehydration.
After the handler stopped, Filenko said, the K-9 lost the scent.
