Nude boy leads to grandmother's arrest for child abuse
Posted: Jul 20, 2015 2:20 PM CDT

"....The boy, who is younger than 10 years old, told officers he had suffered physical abuse multiple times over the past few months, Vidaure said.

The boy alleged two instances where his grandmother tied his wrists and ankles and held his face underwater and two other occasions when she allegedly tied him to a bed frame for a long period of time.

Detectives served a search warrant on the apartment and found evidence to back up the victim’s claims, Vidaure said. ...."

Utah boy, 15, charged with aggravated murder in 12-year-old girl's death

Developing Stories - Page 6 CKfI1DaUEAA4DEk

SALT LAKE CITY - A teenage boy who allegedly lured a 12-year-old neighbor girl out of her Utah home, then strangled her with a t-shirt and left her body in a field, has been charged with aggravated murder and prosecutors are asking to try to try him as an adult.

Prosecutors say the 15-year-old boy lured the girl - Kailey Vijil - out of her house at around midnight Friday by asking for help looking for his cat. According to charging documents, the boy tried to entice another girl with a similar ruse at another home in suburban Salt Lake City about 20 minutes before he knocked on the door of Vijil's home.

Once police arrested the teenage boy Friday afternoon, he acknowledged being with Vijil earlier that morning in the field where she was found dead, authorities said.

The teen is facing an aggravated murder charge in juvenile court, but prosecutors are asking a judge to allow him to be tried as an adult due to the severity of the allegations, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said Tuesday.

Shocked Shocked Shocked

Couple accused of nearly starving their 6-year-old is expecting another baby

"....Prosecutors said the couple placed locks on their refrigerator and pantry to keep their 6-year-old girl from eating. She weighed what a 2-year-old should weigh, just 25 pounds, when doctors at Children’s Hospital examined her in June....

The Bartons’ three children are in protective custody. Officials said the 6-year-old was the only one who was mistreated...."

Chilling text messages reveal final moments before father throws baby from bridge
POSTED 8:18 AM, JULY 9, 2015, BY CNN WIRE, UPDATED AT 08:38AM, JULY 9, 2015

"....Moreno was recently accused of threatening the child and the child’s mother, according to court papers.

Oyola alleged in a June restraining order application that the 22-year-old struck her and told her that he could make the 7-month-old “disappear.”

Oyola’s handwritten complaint says she lived with Moreno for two years and they were happy until she became pregnant.

“Everything changed,” she wrote.

He called her “ugly” and “stupid” and shoved, pushed and “forcefully poked” Oyola’s chest, she alleged. She told him to stop hitting her, she said.

“He told me, ‘If you want me to show you hitting I could show you,'” she wrote.

“He has told me I cannot take my son without his approval. I can’t bring him around my family without his approval but he could do anything he wants without letting me know. I fear for mine and my child’s safety. He could hurt my child.”...."

Silent 911 call leads police to 5 dead in Oklahoma home

"....According to Calhoun, officers responding to the 911 call could not enter the house through the front door but heard moaning and found another way inside. They dragged a 13-year-old girl who survived the attack onto the front lawn, then found two other victims and, unsure if they were alive or dead but fearing a killer remained on the premises, took them outside, where the bodies remained at midday Thursday.

Three other bodies were inside the house.

Calhoun said police were struggling to notify next of kin because so many relatives were involved somehow.

Broken Arrow Police Sgt. Thomas Cooper said nine people were linked to the family home — the five dead, which included adults and juveniles; the 16- and 18-year-old relatives in custody; the 13-year-old girl in serious but stable condition with stab wounds; and a 2-year-old girl who was unharmed. The toddler was transferred to state custody, Cooper said.

Officers arrived before midnight Wednesday at the house near the Indian Springs Country Club after emergency operators received an "open 911 call" — a call in which no one speaks but the line remains connected. Police traced the number to the home and found a scene so disturbing that officers warned that it could take all of Thursday to process evidence.

"It certainly is shocking. I'm shocked," said Patricia Statham, a neighbor. "I feel so bad for everyone who walks into that house. You can see it in the faces of the officers when they come out."..."

Death: Jeffrey Alan Lash, LA, CA

Who was this man?
Where did he get his money?
Why was he so secretive?
Who did he think was after him?
Very serious and private person.
He did not appear crazy or stand out.

More info:
"....Lash’s father and Anderson only saw Lash when he randomly appeared at their home. They last saw him in 2010, Anderson said.

Anderson told the Los Angeles Times that Lash had grown up in a modest neighborhood in Westchester with a pianist mother and microbiologist father who owned a medical laboratory. Lash dropped out of UCLA in the mid-1980s and had was a “loner,” Anderson told the newspaper.

Anderson said she was unaware of any independent wealth that would allow Lash to purchase millions of dollars in weaponry.

An attorney who represented Lash in 2009 also called his client’s behavior strange. Lash was charged with misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon after being stopped by Culver City police, according to court documents. Because Lash had the ammunition and firearms in his vehicle properly stowed, the case was dropped, the attorney said.

Lash refused to give any contact information to the law firm, and would call once per day to get an update on the case, according to the lawyer.

A third lawyer, Robert Rentzer, told KTLA he had represented Lash for nearly 20 years, often in connection with his client’s firearms. Lash was simply a gun collector and very private man, Rentzer said.

“A lot of people would call him odd because of his overwhelming desire for privacy,” Rentzer said at his Tarzana office. “Some people considered him a little weird.”

But Rentzer called the belief that Lash was a secret agent or an alien “laughable.”

Nonetheless, he said he didn’t know what Lash did for a living or how he afforded his extensive gun collection.

“I knew him to have this … fetish for guns, to an excess. I don’t know anybody who would have that inordinate number of weapons,” Rentzer said. “And the collection only increased and increased.”

Rentzer was surprised by the cash that was found in the home, as well as by the massive amount of ammunition.

“I do not know that he ever, ever, ever fired any of his guns. Never,” Rentzer said. “He took pride in how they were maintained.”

The attorney showed a note Lash had hand-written listing many of his guns and provided a grainy, black-and-white photo of Lash that he said was from a driver’s license issued in 1996.

He would have been 42 when the license was issued, and Lash looks rather young in the photo. Nonetheless, the image “looks very much like I remember Jeff to look like,” Rentzer said.

Attorney Robert Rentzer on July 23, 2015, holds a list he said was written by Jeffrey Lash itemizing his stolen guns. (Credit: KTLA)
Braun said he too didn’t know who Lash actually worked for. He said there was no evidence the man was selling guns or drugs.

“He could have been working for anyone,” Braun said. “It’s hard to imagine, however, that it’s a total figment of his imagination because there is so much money involved. There’s almost $5 million worth of guns that were taken by the police......”

POSTED 2:05 PM, JULY 22, 2015, BY LOS ANGELES TIMES
A man found dead in a vehicle in a Pacific Palisades neighborhood and later tied to a home where police found a massive cache of firearms was a 60-year-old longtime Los Angeles County resident who mostly kept to himself, according to interviews.

LONZIE Barton, 21 months, missing
Jackson
July 25, 2015

Missing boy is related to Haleigh Cummings, another missing child

"....PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — As the search continues for 21-month-old Lonzie Barton in Jacksonville, details have emerged that he is related to a little girl who disappeared in 2009.

According to family members, Lonzie and Haleigh Cummings are distant cousins.

Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother says the family relation exists on Haleigh's mother's side of the family.

Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her Putnam county home in 2009 in the middle of the night. A massive search took place for her and her story made national headlines.

Haleigh is still missing.

According to Captain Gator DeLoach with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, detectives assigned to the Haleigh Cummings case will be put in touch with detectives from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to look for similarities in an effort to resolve both cases.

Her great-grandmother, Annette Sykes, said she is praying for Lonzie's family.

"We understand exactly how they feel. To realize that not only is Haleigh missing but so is her cousin," Sykes voice cracked as she spoke. "I don't even know the words for it."..."

Breaking news.
Prayers needed for this little one.
His father threw him and left him to die.

Nothing angers me more than stupidity. No matter how upset you get, it should never be taken out on a child. This is my nephew in Ohio. Yesterday his father was left alone with the child, got mad and threw the poor child into the wall and left him to die. There's absolutely no excuse for this. They're saying he may not make it. He's been brought back several times and is on life support. Praying for his recovery.

https://www.facebook.com/orr.alex

Alex Orr Last we've heard is the DA has decline to files charges at this time even though he openly admitted to throwing the child into the wall. He's being allowed to stay at the hospital. I've been in contact with channel 6, 7, and 12 news in the local Columbus area that are all running his story at 5 EST. He's got to be held accountable. This is beyond insane!

Shana Thompson Wilson That is insane that the DA will not press charges! What are they waiting on? Has CPS been notified? So sad! I am so sorry you guys are going thru this. Continued prayers for this little guy, his family and that justice is served!
Like · about an hour ago

Alex Orr They're supposedly waiting on the doctor to tell the cause of injury which he can't do until the swelling in his brain goes down. Something like that. Detectives and CPS are both involved.

Lonzie Barton Case

Man who told police that his girlfriend's missing toddler son had been abducted when his car was stolen is ARRESTED after cops discover he was lying
Monday, Jul 27th 2015 5PM

A man who told police that his girlfriend's missing son was abducted from outside his Florida apartment has been arrested.

William Ruben Ebron Jr, 32, had told investigators that Lonzie Barton was abducted when his car, which had the 21-month-old son inside, was stolen at 2.20am on Friday.

But investigators believe he was lying about the child's disappearance, My Fox Orlando reported.

'We now have evidence and information to the fact that the story he gave about his vehicle being stolen with the victim in the back seat was not true. We are not working this as a stranger abduction anymore,' Chief of Investigations Tom Hackney told the station.

Ebron was arrested on Saturday and was charged with two counts of child neglect, according to Fox News. His bail was set at $100,000.

If this isn't the biggest load of crap! Shame on you WBNS-10TV for even airing this. First off, how can you be so detailed in how it happend and then say he tripped over a diaper bag? "He threw him into a wall". Not he threw him. He threw him into a wall. Secondly, watch the video again and watch her eyes. She can't keep them on the reporter when she's telling her story. BALD FACE LIE! It's a pity for the boy to have such parents who don't want the best for him. Columbus PD better get their ducks in a row and figure out Brenda's nothing but a perpetual liar. True-crime author Ann Rule dies at age 83

".....Published July 27, 2015Associated Press
SEATTLE – True-crime writer Ann Rule, who wrote more than 30 books, including a profile of her former co-worker, serial killer Ted Bundy, has died at age 83.

Rule died at Highline Medical Center at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, said Scott Thompson, a spokesman for CHI Franciscan Health. Rule's daughter, Leslie Rule, said on Facebook that her mother had many health issues, including congestive heart failure.

"My mom died peacefully last night," Leslie Rule wrote. "She got to see all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren."

Ann Rule's first book, "The Stranger Beside Me," profiled Bundy, whom she got to know while sharing the late shift at a Seattle suicide hotline. She has said she had a contract to write about an unknown serial killer before her co-worker was charged with the crimes.

Rule, who went to work briefly at the Seattle Police Department when she was 21, began writing for magazines like "True Detective" in 1969. A biography on her author website says she has published more than 1,400 articles, mostly on criminal cases.

Rule said she was fascinated by killers' lives, going back to their childhood to find clues about why they did what they did. But her books focused on victims, and she became an advocate for victims' rights.

"By deciding to focus her books on the victim, Ann Rule reinvented the true crime genre and earned the trust of millions of readers who wanted a new and empathetic perspective on the tragic stories at the heart of her works," Carolyn Reidy, president and chief executive officer of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement.

After attending numerous workshops on crime topics from DNA to arson, local law enforcement, the FBI and the Justice Department started turning to Rule for her expertise on serial murders.

She aided the Green River Task Force as that group sought another Seattle-area serial killer, passing along tips that her readers shared. She wrote a book about the case, "Green River, Running Red."...."

NEAL FALLS, of Oregon, suspected serial killer

"....A woman in Charleston, W.Va., may have saved her own life and the lives of many other women, as well, when she shot and killed an alleged attacker in her home last week.

Neal Falls showed up at the woman’s home on July 18 after answering an escort ad she had placed on Backpage.com, according to police. He showed up with a “kill list,” multiple pairs of handcuffs and a Subaru full of weapons and tools, including a shovel, knives, a bulletproof vest, a machete, bleach, trash bags, sledgehammers and axes, according to Fox affiliate KPTV.

In Falls’s pocket, police said, was a list of names of potential future victims, all of whom are sex workers who advertised on Backpage, according to the Daily Dot.

Now investigators are trying to determine whether Falls, 45, was responsible for a string of slayings targeting sex workers in Ohio and Nevada, the station reported.

[As women keep washing up dead, Ohio town fears a serial killer is on the loose]

“We have been able to locate most of them and they were all on a website advertising for escort services,” Lt. Steve Cooper of the Charleston Police Department told the Huffington Post on Wednesday. “The stuff that we found is so alarming that we want law enforcement across the country to be aware of it.”

From the moment Falls showed up at the home of his latest alleged victim, a sex worker, he turned violent, the victim — who asked not to be identified — told KPTV.

“I knew he was there to kill me,” she said. “I could tell that he had already done something because he said that he was going to prison for a long time. And that’s when I knew he was gonna kill me.”

The woman told the station that Falls, who was from Springfield, Ore., pulled a gun on her and began strangling her. She said she had a split second in which to take control of the situation.

“When he strangled me he just wouldn’t let me get any air,” she said. ” I grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands, I shot him. I just grabbed the gun and shot behind me.” ...."

NEAL FALLS

"...."The fact that he was 45 years old, and carrying tools like he was, and committing a crime that was so organized and so violent, it's unlikely that this was his first violent crime," Lt. Steve Cooper, Charleston police chief of detectives, told The Associated Press.

Cooper said Falls had a list of 10 other women in his pocket. Nine were in West Virginia; one was in San Diego. Similar to the Charleston woman, whom police are calling Heather, all were escorts active online, he said. They are all still alive, Cooper said.

Heather had a separated shoulder, broken vertebrae, strangulation marks around her throat and other injuries, Cooper said.

So far, no history of major crimes in Falls' record has surfaced. However, police said records do show that authorities in as many as 20 other states — from Arizona to Kentucky to Virginia — had some kind of interaction with Falls such as stopping him, running his license plate or checking his Social Security number.

"We are sharing this information with law enforcement across the country in hopes that we may be able to help solve cold cases or bring closure to some families if Mr. Falls has been involved in anything like this before," Cooper said.

Charleston police and Nevada authorities have been in communication. Police have said Falls rented a room in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson during a time when four prostitutes went missing.

Henderson police spokeswoman Michelle French said Monday that they are checking into any possible Falls connection to the May 2005 disappearance of 21-year-old Lindsay Harris. She was the subject of massive search, and her family from central New York helped comb the desert area where her rental car was last seen some 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The case appeared on an episode of "America's Most Wanted." Leg parts identified as hers through DNA testing were found three years later off Interstate 55 near Springfield, Illinois, more than 1,600 miles away....."

NEAL NEIL FALLS

I fully expect there will be plenty of DNA evidence collected from the car he was driving and all the "tools" he had in the back of the car. Last link shows the cache he was carrying... three axes? That many knives? Four sets of handcuffs? Much more... but this might help to solve the murders or disappearances of many prostitutes across the states...

Man charged in murder of aspiring Hollywood star Carrie Jean Melvin

BY Rachelle Blidner   /  NEW YORK DAILY NEWS /  Saturday, July 25, 2015, 1:37 PM

Developing Stories - Page 6 Melvin26n-1-web

Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, was shot in the back of the head with a rifle Sunday night while walking with her boyfriend through a touristy section of Hollywood, police say.

A 31-year-old man was charged Friday in the murder of a Hollywood production assistant who was shot in the back of the head near her apartment earlier this month, Los Angeles police said.

Ezeoma Obioha sneaked up behind Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, and fired as she walked with her boyfriend to find dinner near Sunset Boulevard on July 5, police said.

Obioha was arrested about 7:15 p.m. Friday in the case that at first perplexed police — the gunman fired without speaking, injuring anyone else or stealing anything.

"We have been working hard around the clock on this and we didn't want to draw attention to the leads we developed," Lt. John Radke told the Los Angeles Times. "This was a terrible crime and it is one of those scenes you'll never forget."

Obioha was charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Capital murder charge in woman's Hollywood murder

~Snipped~

Obioha is charged with one count of murder with the special circumstances of lying in wait and murder for financial gain. The special circumstances allegations make Obioha eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek death or life in prison without the possibility of parole if he is convicted.

According to police, Obioha had a business relationship with Melvin and the killing likely stemmed from a financial dispute.

Obioha, a security guard and the owner of a fledgling clothing line, had signed a contract with Melvin's newly launched social media company to market his business, Lt. John Radke told the Los Angeles Times.

A dispute erupted when Obioha wrote Melvin a check that bounced and Melvin threatened to take him to court, officials said. Melvin never received the several hundred dollars she was owed, police said.

BABY THOMAS: Update

"....Your sons in the hospital, dying. Your lover/man/piece of crap father of your son is arrested for causing it. You'd think as his mother, you'd be there by his side no matter what. But, Brenda Comeaux? Heck no! She's by her mans side even after he admitted to throwing him into a wall. As if it wasn't bad enough, she's leaving her baby by himself in the hospital to go to court to be with this piece of crap and defend him. Are you kidding me? Talk about your priorities being screwed up! I wish I was there just to be by your side Thomas! I hate seeing this happen to you little buddy! ‪#‎JusticeForThomas‬ ...."

"....
Alex Orr shared his photo.
6 hrs ·
It has been confirmed. The doctor that specializes in injuries has examined Thomas. His injuries, which include a fractured skull, prove that he was abused. This supports his initial statement that he admittedly threw the child into the wall before recanting and changing his story. He will be in court tomorrow at 9am to face the charge of Child Endangerment of the 3rd Degree which is a felony. Also, the doctors are saying although his condition seems to have improved, they're still thinking he will not wake up from the medically induced coma. Brenda, even though lying to the police and hindering their investigation, will be the one to decide within a week to take him off life support....."

Thomas Naramore, Hot Springs, AR

"....ANOTHER.....CHILD........DEAD!

Two Year Old Dead After Juvenile Court Judge, (The Child's Father), Leaves Him In Hot Car For Four Hours.

COMMENTARY: The father stated he was 'under a lot of stress'.

At this point, I HAVE NO WORDS!

HOT SPRINGS, AR - On Friday, July 24th, the local fire department and ambulances responded to a call of a toddler being left in a hot car. When they arrived he was unresponsive, they attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful. Tragically the child, Thomas Naramore, the son of Garland County Circuit Judge, Wade Naramore, was pronounced dead at the scene. It has been confirmed that he picked the child up from daycare that day and somehow left him in the vehicle for a whopping FOUR HOURS.

The (not so honorable) Judge Naramore claims that he was "Under a lot of stress".

So far no charges have been brought against Naramore, and the Hot Springs Police Department says they will conduct a thorough investigation and the body will be sent to the State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death. While this is a mistake that anyone can make, anyone who is not in a position of authority, such as Judge Naramore, would be in jail awaiting trial as I write this.

Friends of the Naramore family, and various people of the police apologist mindset, have taken to social media to ask that we all pray for him and his family, a sharp contrast from the usual lynch mob mentality that usually accompanies crimes of this nature.

Naramore admittedly left the child in the car for four hours, which amounts to a confession of negligent homicide, yet he remains a free man.

Here we have an example of a Georgia man who just two weeks ago left his girlfriend's child alone in a hot vehicle and was arrested as soon as he returned to the scene.

Just yesterday a woman in Bakersfield, CA left her child in a hot vehicle for only 30 minutes and was arrested at the scene. Yet again in Surprise, AZ on July 4th a mother is facing charges after leaving her child in a hot vehicle while she shopped at Wal Mart.

Deaths from children being left in cars are fairly rare with an average of 37 per year in the United States.

"....A Vietnam veteran who went out for a walk and disappeared has been found alive after being trapped under a tree for a week.

Larry Melton Shadday, 66, from Springdale, Maryland
left the Emelda's veterans home where he was living and went for a morning walk on July 20. He never returned. The next morning his roommate called the owner of the house they lived in telling then Shadday was still gone.

Emelda's veterans home called police, and for a week they searched for him. It wasn't until seven days later when someone noticed a man in a ravine underneath a tree.

Firerighters were called and using the jaws of life they were able to get him out. Shadday was walking near a guardrail when he slipped and fell down the embankment, according to WSET-TV. Shadday was confused and weak when he was found and could not say what happened, but it is believed Shadday fell and rolled down the ravine on the 9000 block of Ardwich-Ardmore Road and became wedged under a downed tree, and was too weak to move himself.

Shadday suffered from minor injuries and was dehydrated but otherwise alright.

Everyone is waiting to hear his story on how he was able to survive that long without any food or water. ..."

NEIL FALLS:

"...Neil Falls, 45, from Springfield, Oregon was gunned-down by a woman known only as "Heather" after he came to her door and asked her, "Live or die?" then started choking her. Heather grabbed a rake and when he put down the gun to take the rake away from her, Heather grabbed the gun and shot and killed Falls. After authorities searched Falls car trunk after the incident they found shovels, hatchets and bleach, a bullet proof vest, and trash bags, they are now wondering if he is responsible for several other women's deaths. In particularly, evidence found at a murder scene were similar to what was found in Falls car.

In Chillicothe, Ohio, 6 woman were missing or had been murdered and family's of these women believed it was the work of a serial killer.

Charlotte Trego, 28, and Wanda Lemons, 38, are still missing. Tameka Lynch, 30, was found dead on a sand bar in Paint Creek on May 24, 2014, , Shasta Himelrich was found dead in the Scioto River, Timberly Clayton was found dead in the Massieville River and Tiffany Sayer was found dead in a creek in Highland County. ..."

ILLEGAL ALIEN MURDERS ‘GOOD SAMARITAN’ COUPLE IN MONTANA

The Billings Gazette

"....A Pryor couple was shot to death and their daughter wounded at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when they stopped to help a man who had run out of gas on the Crow Reservation.

Jesus Deniz Mendoza (aka Jesus Deniz), was arrested at around 12:30 p.m. about eight miles north of Meeteetse, Wyo.

“At this time, there is no further danger to the community,” said Todd Palmer, Special Agent with the FBI in the Salt Lake City Division.

Bryce Hugs, who is serving as a family spokesman, said his aunt, Tana Shane, 50, and his uncle, Jason Shane, 52, were killed. Their daughter Jorah Shane, 24, was shot, but escaped.

Hugs said his aunt drove by a stranded man on Pryor Gap Road just south of Pryor and went home and picked up her husband and daughter to offer help. The family traveled to the corner store in Pryor to get gasoline, but the store was closed. When they returned to the stranded man, the shooting took place.

“When they came back to help him, that’s when it all took place,” Hugs said. “(He) killed both of them and then shot the daughter,” Hugs said. “It grazed her in the head and when she took off (he) shot her in the back.” ...."

Remember Janis Ian? She was a singer from the later 1960s with periodic songs in the 70s and 80s. IIRC, she appeared in a film or two....

"...Janis Ian says Bill Cosby spread lesbian rumors about her as a teen, tried to blacklist her from TV
The "Society's Child" and "At 17" singer/songwriter says she met Cosby at a Smothers Brothers taping in the 1960s
ANNA SILMAN

“I was not sexually bothered by Bill Cosby,” Ian wrote on her Facebook page. “We met because he was curious about me. “

As buzz was developing around Ian’s interracial love song “Society’s Child,” The Smothers Brothers had the unknown 16-year-old singer on the show to perform. After her set, she fell asleep in her female chaperone’s lap (an older family friend who had been supervising her during her tour).

“A while later, my manager called me into her office,”“Ian recalls. “What happened at the Smothers Brothers show?!” I had no idea what she was talking about, and said so. “Well, no one else on TV is willing to have you on. Not out there, anyway.” Why? I wondered. And was told that Cosby, seeing me asleep in the chaperone’s lap, had made it his business to ‘warn’ other shows that I wasn’t ‘suitable family entertainment’, was probably a lesbian, and shouldn’t be on television.”

“Again, a reminder. I was 16. I’d never slept with a man, I’d never slept with a woman. Hell, I barely been kissed, and that in the middle of the summer camp sports area, next to the ping pong table,” she continued.

While Johnny Carson eventually broke the ban and had Ian on TV, the scarring experience has unsurprisingly stuck with her. As she concludes, “what an odd thing, that a black man who slept with so very many white women chose to take my possible lesbianism away from our one meeting, rather than the message I tried to get across with ‘Society’s Child.’ How pathetic. How truly, truly pathetic.”

Janis Ian, fb page
(Many interesting comments under a lengthy posting.)

"...Banned from TV. Unbelievable. Bless Johnny Carson and his producer Freddy de Cordova, one of the nicest men I've ever worked with, because they didn't listen. Or maybe they didn't give a damn. I don't know. I do know that they broke the barrier Cosby tried to create.
There's a lot to bother a sensible person about this. The years these women were ignored. The years they were derided. That the story finally really "broke" because a male comedian named Hannibal Buress kept bringing it up, kept calling Cosby a "rapist". Not because woman after woman after woman went to the police, to the press, to anyone who'd listen, with horribly similar stories.

Let me be snarky for a moment. Interesting that there are so few women of color in the New York Magazine photo. Interesting that the ones in the photo all appear to be light-skinned. Perhaps darker skinned women have not come forward yet? Perhaps they're among the other 12 women who've accused him but aren't pictured?
Or perhaps not. I have to wonder if this rapist has some issues with his own race.

Continuing the snarkiness, I find it horrifying that his wife is still insisting it was all consensual. That she sounds more upset by "the invasion of privacy" than the rapes.
People seem to be confused because she continues to stand by him. I have just two words for that - money, honey. According to the press, she's his manager, and has been for years. And his "business manager", eg the person who handles the money. So if there were pay-offs, she saw the checks. She is complicit.

If it was consensual, why pay anyone to be silent?

If it was consensual, why are there so many women who do not want money, who do not need fame, who are by turns ashamed, violated, exposed, vulnerable, and still continue to speak out?
Cosby was right in one thing. I am gay. Or bi, if you prefer, since I dearly loved the two men I lived with over the years. My tilt is toward women, though, and he was right about that.
But what an odd thing, that a black man who slept with so very many white women chose to take my possible lesbianism away from our one meeting, rather than the message I tried to get across with "Society's Child." How pathetic. How truly, truly pathetic. ...."

Mia Farrow re the killing of Cecil, the lion:

Mia Farrow’s Cecil the Lion Twitter fail:
With great outrage and a big platform comes great responsibility
The actress reportedly tweets out the business address of the hunter at the center of a storm
MARY ELIZABETH WILLIAMS

"....First, to catch you up: Earlier this week the news broke that a Minnesota dentist named Walter Palmer paid around $50,000 to kill a lion in Zimbabwe — a lion named Cecil, who turned out to be a beloved national figure — in a “hunt” that involved luring the animal out of Hwange National Park. Cecil was shot with an arrow, wounded and finished off with a gun some forty hours later. And his six cubs now “will be killed by the new male lion in the pride, in order to encourage the lionesses to mate with him.” Palmer’s expensive act has provoked international disgust and an investigation into charges of poaching....."

Singer Lynn Anderson, dead at 87 years

"...Country Legend Lynn Anderson Dead at 67
"Rose Garden" singer held 27-year-long bragging rights for the biggest-selling country album by a solo female artist

BY ROLLING STONE July 31, 2015
Lynn Anderson

"Rose Garden" singer Lynn Anderson has died at 67. Michael Ochs Archives/Getty
Singer-songwriter Lynn Anderson, a dynamic Grammy-winning performer whose 1970 single, "Rose Garden," was a country and pop hit throughout the world, died Thursday night at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. According to the Tennessean, Anderson was hospitalized with pneumonia following a recent trip to Italy. She was 67.

Anderson was born September 26th, 1947, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to songwriters Casey and Liz Anderson, the latter of whom was a recording artist and writer, penning Merle Haggard's "I Am a Lonesome Fugitive" and "(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers." Raised in Fair Oaks, California, Anderson frequently entered horse shows as a youngster, earning more than 700 trophies. In 1966, she was crowned California Horse Show Queen.

As a teenager she often performed on the Country Caravan TV series and in 1966, Anderson signed a deal with Nashville-based Chart Records after accompanying her parents to Music City for the annual Disc Jockey Convention. Chart label head Slim Williamson overheard Merle Haggard singing with the younger Anderson and offered the chance for her to record. Her first singles that same year were duets with singer Jerry Lane, but they failed to chart. Her first solo hit, "Ride, Ride, Ride," and two subsequent singles were penned by her mother, with "If I Kiss You (Will You Go Away)," reaching the Top Five....."

"...Not-Paul Fronczak identified
This story actually ran on July 2, but I didn’t find out about it till now: “Paul Fronczak” has been identified. In a nutshell, for people who aren’t familiar with this case: a newborn named Paul Fronczak was abducted from a Chicago hospital in 1964. In 1965, a toddler who was about the age Paul would have been was found abandoned in New Jersey. The Fronczak family thought he was their missing son, but the identification could not be conclusively established due to unavailability of DNA testing, etc., at that time, so they had to go through adoption procedures. There the matter rested until 2012, when “Paul” had himself tested and found out he was not related to his presumed parents. This made national news and the baby Paul Fronczak was re-listed as missing at the time.

Well, according to the article I linked to above, not-Paul Fronczak has been identified by a “genetic genealogist” as a child named Jack, one of five kids in his family. His parents and one of his siblings are dead now; two are still alive. Jack has a twin sister named Jill (groan) and she’s missing. The twins disappeared shortly before their second birthdays, but their parents never told anyone; both sides of their family thought the children were living with the other side. The family’s last name has not been released as of yet, but relatives told not-Paul “dark tales” about the parents.

In other words, this seems like a Michelle Pulsifer type case. You gotta wonder how many times this sort of thing used to happen back in the days before computerized public records and what have you.

I wonder if Jill was also abandoned somewhere and is still out there, not knowing who she really is. It seems a lot more likely, though, that she died about fifty years ago.

Meanwhile, the real Paul Fronczak remains among the missing. What a bizarre case...."

Training Officers to Shoot First, and He Will Answer Questions Later

The New York Times
By MATT APUZZO

© Michal Czerwonka for The New York Times William J. Lewinski, a psychologist who has studied police shootings, held a training session at the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs in Monterey Park, Calif., last month.

WASHINGTON — The shooting looked bad. But that is when the professor is at his best. A black motorist, pulled to the side of the road for a turn-signal violation, had stuffed his hand into his pocket. The white officer yelled for him to take it out. When the driver started to comply, the officer shot him dead.

The driver was unarmed.

Taking the stand at a public inquest, William J. Lewinski, the psychology professor, explained that the officer had no choice but to act.

“In simple terms,” the district attorney in Portland, Ore., asked, “if I see the gun, I’m dead?”

“In simple terms, that’s it,” Dr. Lewinski replied.

When police officers shoot people under questionable circumstances, Dr. Lewinski is often there to defend their actions. Among the most influential voices on the subject, he has testified in or consulted in nearly 200 cases over the last decade or so and has helped justify countless shootings around the country.

His conclusions are consistent: The officer acted appropriately, even when shooting an unarmed person. Even when shooting someone in the back. Even when witness testimony, forensic evidence or video footage contradicts the officer’s story.

N.M. governor: "Coward" who set off 2 church blasts will be caught

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez is promising that the "coward" who set off explosions outside two Las Cruces churches will be caught.

The small blasts just 20 minutes and a few miles apart shocked congregants Sunday morning at the churches in southern New Mexico.

There were no injuries or deaths from the blasts outside Calvary Baptist and Holy Cross Roman Catholic in Las Cruces, Las Cruces police spokesman Danny Trujillo said. Each building sustained minor damage.

Authorities are working to determine who planted the explosives and have not said if more than one person is being sought. They are also trying to determine what materials were used and whether the blasts were related.

Mississippi's National Guard said soldiers training at Camp Shelby reported hearing shots fired at 11:45 a.m. along Peret Tower Road, near the training facility. The facility is secure and all personnel accounted for and unharmed, the guard said in a news release.

State seeks death penalty in murder of Food Network contestant, husband

LEICESTER, N.C. - A former home contractor charged with murdering a pregnant Food Network contestant and her husband could face the death penalty if convicted, reports CBS affiliate WSPA.

Robert Jason Owens, 36, is charged with killing Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, her husband Joseph "JT" Codd, 45, and Schoen Codd's unborn child. The couple was reported missing March 14 from their home in Leicester, North Carolina - west of Asheville - after family members couldn't get in contact with them, reports CBS affiliate WSPA.

Days later, their dismembered remains were found in a wood stove on Owens' property, investigators said.

Former “Deadliest Catch” producer Joe McMahon was shot and killed early Friday morning in front of his home in Pasadena, Calif. He was 25 years old.

“We are heartsick about this tragedy — our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him,” Discovery, the network behind “Deadliest Catch,” said in a statement.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3600 block of Yorkshire Road in the Chapman Woods neighborhood around 2:19 a.m. this morning, after receiving a call about possible shots fired, according to ABC 7 News. When police arrived, they found a 25-year-old man with gunshot wounds on the street. Authorities say the man’s body was found just one driveway from his home.

Family members identified the victim as McMahon, and said that he worked on “Deadliest Catch.”...."

(CNN)—You think you've heard this story before. A young, unarmed man is gunned down by police, black activists are outraged -- the only difference with this scenario is that the young man is not black, he's white.

Nineteen-year-old Zachary Hammond was on a date July 26 when he was fatally shot twice by a police officer while at the back parking lot of a Hardee's fast food restaurant in Seneca, a city 40 miles from Greenville, near the North Carolina border, according to Eric Bland, the attorney representing the teen's family.

The Seneca Police Department said the officer was conducting a drug investigation and shot Hammond in self-defense.

"He was a uniformed officer, he was in a marked vehicle, was out of his vehicle on foot approaching the suspect vehicle -- weapon drawn given it was a narcotics type violation," Seneca Police Chief John Covington said to CNN affiliate WHNS.

A small amount of marijuana was found in the front passenger's compartment in Hammond's car.

"He was a 19-year-old, 121-pound kid killed basically for a joint," Bland said.

The Seneca Police Department said the officer was conducting a drug investigation and shot Hammond in self-defense.

Tori Morton, 24, who was on the date with Hammond, was arrested on charges of simple possession of marijuana. An incident report from Seneca police said that Morton was the target of the police investigation.

It was an amount, Bland said, that did not warrant such force by police.

"This is about the use of overreaching deadly force in situations where it is not required," Bland said.

Tiller's attorney, John Mussetto, released a statement detailing his client's version of events.

Mussetto said that Tiller was responding to an undercover drug deal that was going to be made by a Seneca Police narcotics agent. Tiller shot at the car while it was accelerating "in the direction of Lieutenant Tiller," according to the statement.

"If not for Lieutenant Tiller's quick reflexes and his ability to push off the car, Lieutenant Tiller would have easily been run over by Mr. Hammond," the statement said.

Police say Zachary Hammond accelerated his car toward them during a drug bust at Hardee’s restaurant in Seneca, S. Carolina on July 26.

SENECA, S.C. (WLOS) -- Lt. Mark Tiller was identified as the Seneca Police officer who fatally shot an unarmed teenager on Friday.

Tiller allegedly shot 19-year-old Zachary Hammond after Hammond accelerated his car toward Tiller during a drug bust at Hardee’s restaurant in Seneca on July 26.

According to a statement from his attorney, Tiller has been in law enforcement for 10 years. Tiller was put on administrative leave following the incident.

Hammond’s parents became suspicious about their son’s death after an autopsy conducted by the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.

Both Hammond's parents, Angie and Paul, said police had yet to talk to them about what led to their son's death.

"They wouldn't give us the police report; they told us South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) had it," Paul Hammond said.

Shooting of Unarmed White Teenager, Zachary Hammond, Enters National Debate

By CHRISTINE HAUSERAUG. 7, 2015

Zachary Hammond, a white teenager, pulled up to a drive-through window last week at a Hardee’s restaurant in Seneca, S.C. A sting operation was underway, with police officers suspecting a possible drug deal.

Within minutes, an officer used his patrol car to block Mr. Hammond’s vehicle. According to the Oconee County coroner’s report, an officer identified as Lt. Mark Tiller then “felt threatened” as Mr. Hammond drove his car toward him. The officer fired two shots through the open window on the driver’s side, striking Mr. Hammond once in the shoulder and once fatally in the chest.

Eric S. Bland, a lawyer for the Hammond family, has demanded that the news media treat the killing of Mr. Hammond as they have recent shootings of unarmed black men, and some supporters on social media agree.

Parents want answers after police-shooting death of South Carolina teen

Posted 12:44 pm, August 9, 2015, by Scott Wise

GREENVILLE, South Carolina — The parents of 19-year-old Zachary Hammond said they wanted answers after their son was shot and killed by police in South Carolina. On July 26, Hammond was on a date with 23-year-old Tori Morton. Morton, police said, was the target of a drug sting. When Hammond and Morton pulled into a Hardee’s parking lot, police were waiting.

According to the police report, Hammond, who was driving, “attempted to strike an officer with his vehicle.” It was at that time, police shot him twice. Hammond died at the scene.

Hammond’s parents said police were not providing answers to their questions, so they went looking for their own. An independent autopsy they conducted showed their son was shot from behind and at close range. The family attorney added the results show the car was stopped at the time of the shooting.

Police ID Officer Who Fatally Shot Unarmed Teen

Lt. Mark Tiller shot Zachary Hammond, 19, during attempted drug bust in Hardee's parking lot

By Michael Harthorne,  Newser Staff
Posted Aug 8, 2015 10:32 AM CDT

(Newser)  – After a flurry of Freedom of Information Act requests, police in South Carolina yesterday identified Lt. Mark Tiller as the officer who shot and killed unarmed 19-year-old teen Zachary Hammond during a drug sting in a Hardee's parking lot, the Washington Post reports. According to NBC News, police had previously refused to identify Tiller, a 10-year-veteran with no record of disciplinary action within the Seneca Police Department, because he was a victim of "attempted murder" in the Hardee's incident last month and over concerns for his safety. The New York Times reports officers suspicious of a possible drug deal stopped Hammond's car before Tiller opened fire through the open driver's side window.

Police say Hammond tried to run over Tiller prior to the shooting, but the official police report from the scene makes no mention of what happened before the shooting or why Tiller believed his life was in danger, according to the Post. Based on where the shots were fired from, Hammond's family questions the use of deadly force and doesn't believe the officer feared for his life. Dash cam footage of the incidentexists, but it isn't clear when it will be made public, notes the Times. A 23-year-old woman in the car with Hammond at the time was arrested on suspicion of possessing 10 grams of marijuana. Hammond is white, and his attorney thinks that's why the case isn't getting as much national attention as other police shootings.

Editor’s note: This post has been updated.

A 49-year-old police trainee killed an unarmed teen burglary suspect who drove an SUV into the showroom of an Arlington car dealership early Friday.

Officer Brad Miller shot 19-year-old Christian Taylor about 1 a.m. after officers responded to a burglar alarm at Classic Buick GMC near Interstate 20 and Collins Street, police said.

Taylor, a football star and 2014 graduate of Mansfield Summit, was unarmed, police said.

The dealership’s security company reported the break-in after its cameras recorded a man there after hours, police said. Sgt. Paul Rodriguez said a burglar drove a sport utility vehicle through the dealership showroom’s glass doors.

When police arrived they found Taylor in the showroom and approached him. Police said Miller shot Taylor after an “altercation.” Taylor died at the scene, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

A little more than a week before his death, Taylor tweeted “I don’t wanna die too younggggg.”

Yes they said even after the alarms went off he continued to kick in the windshield of a mustang, got inside and sit for a few seconds and the got out. He may have been in that new drug that so many say makes people crazy. I can not remember what they called the drug but everyone remembers when the man was eating the homeless guy, yes that drug. I live south of Dallas so it just started off with he was shot and now the whole story has come out.

HOUSTON (AP) — Eight people — including five children and three adults — were found dead inside a Houston-area home following the arrest of a man who exchanged gunfire with police, Texas authorities said Sunday.

Deputies were called to the home about 9 p.m. Saturday to perform a welfare check, Harris County Sheriff spokesman Thomas Gilliland told KHOU-TV (http://bit.ly/1HyVKtb). Gilliland said deputies subsequently received information indicating that a man inside the home was wanted on a warrant for aggravated assault on a family member.

Gilliland said while waiting for a High Risk Operations Unit to arrive at the scene, deputies spotted the body of a juvenile through a window. Four deputies then forced their way into the home, prompting the 49-year-old male suspect inside to begin shooting. Deputies pulled back and waited for the operations unit to arrive.

The man surrendered about an hour later.

Mourners remember murdered family of 8 in Texas

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -A day after eight members of one family, including six children, were killed in their home, neighbors and loved ones began arriving at the scene of tragedy Sunday to pay respects, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

An impromptu memorial sits outside the house where the victims lived. Police say David Conley broke into the home Saturday and executed Valerie Jackson, her husband Dewayne and six children, Nathaniel, 13, Honestly, 11, Dewayne Jr., 10, Caleb, 9, Trinity, 7, and Jonah, 6 . Conley previously had a relationship with Valerie Jackson, according to police, and Nathaniel was Conley and Valerie Jackson's son. Dewayne was the father of the other five children.

Near the house's front door memorial, where candles, balloons and flowers were placed, KHOU spoke with neighbor Kathy Sysongkim. She said she loved the children as if they were her own.

"They would play ball over here," Sysongkim said, adding that on a normal Sunday, she expected to hear the kids playing in the street. "They were good kids."

BARRE, Vermont (AP) - The Vermont woman who police say shot and killed a social worker because she was upset about losing custody of her 9-year-old daughter is scheduled to make her first court appearance.

Jody Herring has been held without bail since shortly after her arrest Friday following the death of Lara Sobel who police say was shot twice in the head as she came of the Barre office building that houses the regional office of the state Department for Children and Families.

Police also believe that before shooting Sobel, 48, Herring shot and killed two cousins and an aunt in the adjoining town of Berlin. But no charges have been filed yet in connection with the deaths of Regina Herring, 43, and Rhonda Herring, 48, the suspect's cousins; and Julianne Falzarano, 73, an aunt.
