The video within the above article includes snippets of the interview with Angela Motal, Jonathan's mom, and Mary Gifford, Jonathan's maternal grandmother.

Jonathan's mom, Angela Davis, at the time of Jonathan's death now goes by Angela Motal.

She said she is divorcing David Davis. It does not surprise me because Angela and David were not living together at the time of Jonathan's death. Angela and Jonathan were living with a friend.

Allen Tanner, who is Mona Yvette Nelson's court appointed attorney, said he does not expect jury selection to begin until early 2012. The reporter did indicate ultimately it is up to the judge when jury selection begins.

Mona Yvette Nelson had another court appearance this morning in Judge Jeannine Barr's State District Court 182.

Last night, I noticed Nelson was listed, among others, for the morning docket.

If this court appearance was of a routine nature (and I would think it was), the Houston area media won't do a story on it. If they do, I will post the link on this thread.

I am monitoring the Jonathan Foster case closely.

Nelson's next court appearance is scheduled for August 23, 2011.

Hi Ann, I assume she's in protective/solitary custody in the jail, correct?

Piper, regarding Nelson's custody status at the jail, I do not know. It has not been disclosed.

I would think she is in an isolated area of the jail or protective custody.

I am near the Houston, Tx area and have been monitoring the Jonathan Foster case closely as it unfolded.

Mona Yvette Nelson remains in custody at the Harris County Jail, Houston, Harris County, Tx.

She had several court appearances since her arrest. Her most recent court appearance was on 7-13-11 in Judge Jeannine Barr's State District Court 182.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 23, 2011.

My Houston media contacts have indicated to me if the court appearances are of a routine nature, they would not cover it, i.e., "do a story."

Nelson's attorney, Allen Tanner, indicated jury selection in Nelson's trial would probably start in early 2012.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office nor Judge Barr have indicated a trial date.

Ultimately, the trial date will be set by Judge Barr.

The most recent related news by main stream Houston media about the Jonathan Foster case was in May, 2011.

A local Houston TV station did an interview with Angela Motal (she now goes by Motal versus Davis) and Mary Gifford, Jonathan's maternal grandmother. It includes an article and about a four minute video.

Also, there are several threads that Valhall of The Hinky Meter has set up for Jonathan Foster. Valhall writes articles regarding this case as warranted. I keep those updated also.

Christmas Eve, December 24, 2010, Jonathan Foster was kidnapped from his northwest Houston,Tx home while his mother was at work. It is alleged he was murdered within hours of being kidnapped.

On December 28, 2010, Jonathan was found deceased (burned beyond recognition) in a bar ditch in northeast Houston (Harris County, Tx)

Mona Yvette Nelson has been charged with the murder of Jonathan. She is in the Harris County Jail - Houston, Tx. Her trial is scheduled for May 7, 2012.

The following is an update:

As previously scheduled, Mona Nelson's next court date is 4-11-2012. It is a Disposition Hearing.

Mona Nelson's tentative trial date of 5/7/12 was set in October, 2011. It has been taken off of Judge Jeannine Barr's court docket for that date.

It is a possibility that on 4-11-12, a new trial date will be set. It depends upon the State and Defense at the Disposition Hearing.

I will continue to monitor the status of this case.

This case tears at me. Such a beautiful, animated young man. I don't know if I can bear to follow this. Maybe, just at a distance.

Freckles, this is a heinous crime.

No motive has been disclosed yet; it will come out at trial.

In my opinion, Mona Y. Nelson has to be pure evil to have murdered Jonathan, an innocent 12 year old child. There is evidence that she used a torch; don't know if it was before or after she killed Jonathan.

Once again, it will come out at trial.

Hopefully, the Houston media will cover this trial closely. To my knowledge, this trial will not be "live streamed.'

In an Ex Parte Motion For Permission To Expend County Funds For Purposes Of Hiring Expert For Assistance submitted by Allen Tanner, Attorney for Defendant (Mona Yvette Nelson), the following was granted by Judge Jeannie Barr on 3/8/2013:

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two and a half years ago, a 12-year-old Houston boy was kidnapped and killed. On Monday, his accused killer will go on trial for capital murder.

Mona Nelson will not be tried by a jury, but by a judge. That was her choice, but in a capital murder trial it's almost never done.

I followed this case closely when Jonathan was first reported missing, until they found his remains.

I've just checked in here and there since, but I wish there were move coverage on it.

It's a cruel, sad case.  I hope there is some justice for Jonathan at the end.

I don't know what to make of her deciding on a trial by judge only.

Regarding the updates, you are welcome. I intend to keep this thread updated with articles from the Houston media. By evening, I should have the updates for a given day posted. Some days I'll have to be out of town but should be back by evening.

I was very surprised that Nelson selected a trial by judge; even against her attorney's advice.

I hope the Houston media will cover this trial in detail.  I wish this trial was "live streamed."  Oh well . . . we will have to rely on the media for updates.  

I planned to attend this trial when it was set and trial date changed twice.  However, I am not able to attend this trial date.  It would be nice if someone from the greater Houston area (and beyond) could attend and do daily reports here or at Websleuths.

HOUSTON—The trial of a woman accused of kidnapping and killing a 12-year-old Houston boy on Christmas Eve in 2010 begins Tuesday.

Mona Yvette Nelson was charged with capital murder in the death of Jonathan Foster. Nelson has chosen to be tried by a judge, not a jury. Her attorney said he advised her against it.

Police said the 44-year-old maintenance worker kidnapped and killed Jonathan, then burned his body. Nelson admitted to discarding the boy’s body, but said she did not kill him.

The defense in a capital murder case on Monday asked a Houston judge to quash statements made by the woman accused of the kidnap-murder of a 12-year-old boy on Christmas Eve 2010, saying she was sick and exhausted after hours of interrogation.

The defendant, Mona Nelson, has taken the unusual step of having her capital murder case heard by a judge, not a jury. The trial opened Monday before Houston District Judge Jeannine Barr.

In court, Nelson's attorney, Allen Tanner, detailed how Houston police investigators questioned his client over a 17-hour period at police headquarters or her home where evidence was being collected before finally serving the woman with an arrest warrant in Jonathan Foster's death.

Pre-trial motions were held Monday in the case of a woman accused of killing a 12-year-old boy almost three years ago.

Her defense counsel Allen Tanner said he advised against a bench trial.

"She's a strong minded woman and she said I just want the judge to hear my case and make a decision. I would have preferred to have a jury just because you have some jurors that look at things and see things that other jurors didn't see," said Tanner. "I think it's always better to have 12 people."

Thank you for the welcome, and for all the great links and videos.

I was so disappointed when I heard that they weren't going to live steam the trial.  I have never seen a trial in front of a judge only.

Your links to the live stream news broadcasts with what times to watch for them is much appreciated, and very thoughtful.  

Besides all the horrible things that were done to young Jonathan, one of the things that upsets me most is thinking of her going to his home--after she allegedly murdered him--and hanging around offering her condolences and support to his devastated mother.  That has to be an example of how low a person can go.

I join you in hoping for Justice for Jonathan!
