Husband of missing Miramar woman faces new charges

The jailed husband of a missing Miramar woman whose murder he's charged with, is now charged with years ago installing spying software on her cellphone when he suspected infidelity.

Cid Torrez on Friday — his 41st birthday — appeared in a striped jumpsuit during his first-appearance court hearing to face multiple charges of unlawful interception of electronic communication.

According to a Miramar police report, investigators accuse Cid Torrez of bugging his wife's work cellphone with a spying software called MobiStealth that would log emails, phone calls, text messages, track her location and more.

The phone belonged to a Doral bathroom remodeling company where Vilet Torrez worked as a marketing coordinator.

Bank records show Cid Torrez paid multiple times for the cellphone monitoring service on his wife's phone from August 9, 2011, to June 9, 2012, police spokeswoman Tania Rues said.

First he bugged her phone, and then he killed her.

Those are the new charges against a Florida man accused of slaying his wife and hiding her body.

Cid Torrez, 41, secretly installed spyware on his wife’s cell phone that allowed him to track her emails, phone calls, text messages and even her movements, the Sun Sentinel reported.

Torrez suspected his wife was cheating on him, according to police reports reviewed by the Sun Sentinel.

The jealous husband installed tracking software called MobiStealth on her work cell phone in Aug. 2011, and used it for months to stalk the mother of his three children, the report said.

The new charges of illegally intercepting his wife’s electronic communications were filed on Friday.

Torrez’s lawyer dismissed the charges as old news.

“That’s been an accusation really from the very beginning,” attorney Richard Della Fera told the Sun Sentinel. “I’m surprised that they’ve determined to charge him with crimes for each of those alleged incidents.”
